Koutarou is normal, as normal as someone can be. He's generally more of a background character, the type that advises or add his thoughts from time to time. Compared to the more active trio of Ryouta, Koharu and Karin, he's more to the neutral one. Compared to the passive Yuuki, he still willing to take reins. Compared to Keigo, he's a bit more vocal. In the group, he often plays the straight man and the tiebreaker among the group member. Koutarou himself said he's a bit boring if you ask him what he thinks about himself.
However, hidden underneath exterior of the fairly normal guy is the guy that willing to toss any kind of lies in order to get away from trouble, using all kind of underhanded tactics he can think of just to save his skin. He, most of all, hates to lose and will most of the time resorts to underhanded tactics, something that clashes a lot with his partner. Despite all the negativity, Koutarou is an animal lover and would extends his hand to any animal (or Digimon) that needs his help. He might also would do it to human, but who knows...

Koutarou is short, short for boy of his age, something he's really bothered about. He weights rather averagely, and he is normal at best. He doesn't have any visible muscles on his body, nor seem desire to have such. With short black hair styled in neat way, he looks like a disciplined person, although usually, he let his hair stay messy. Koutarou's eyes and face generally is what you often said as 'babyfaced', something that he often use to appear harmless. Koutarou have strange habit in where his steps and walking mannerism will copy the person in front of him when they has walked in front of him for three minutes. When that didn't happened, he just walked his own way, with fast yet tiny steps.
Generally, Koutarou preferred to wear long sleeved t-shirt (with the long sleeves actually extension to his t-shirt's short sleeves). He's often seen tugging his sleeves if it's not long enough, something he often do unconsciously. Koutarou often seen wearing short, knee length pants instead long ones. He prefer simplicity over anything in his attire. He wears a scarf tied on his right wrist. Although it probably looks suspicious to some, it's just some aesthetic stuffs for him.

He love socializing, but the fact that he does only love socializing to adults or someone older, not his peers. For him, their talks are often kiddy talks that is too predictable.
However, he soon find himself to be rather out of his class, and honestly, he doesn't like that feeling. He start emulating the class' popular kids, and gained quite number of 'friends'. He then understand... for kids, the alpha are the one with coolest personality and know lots of stuffs. He then begin to lie, although his lie is not the high-tale kind, mostly, it's just some lies about his real feeling. Speaking in cruder term, he licks up to them with his sweet talks.
Eventually, he felt he doesn't like to be around some fake friends and only putting a front, at least until he finally met his current friends, who accepted him quickly. He felt relieved because they're the only one he ever put his lie wall down to, and they accepted him despite the fact he's 'boring' like how he put it. His meeting with them changed his monochrome-like world. However, until this moment, he haven't found other group that make him like that.

His sense of justice is high, and he frowns upon having to fight underhandedly or having advantage over his opponents, unless they're absolutely evil.
Hyokomon might be an outdated Digimon and could be said as Sengoku-period otaku... but that's just how he is. He hates seeing oppression, and would definitely be the first one to get on the stage. He have strange habit of declaring his name as he appeared on the battlefield. His personality changed per his evolution, turning a bit more philosophical and outlaw-ish as Buraimon, cold yet protective as Butenmon, and finally kind and all-compassionate to his allies as Valdurmon.
