THE LOST CIVILIZATION [1/4] Rewards Wanted by Mana: Rewards Wanted by Hideki:
After reuniting Aria with her beloved sister and greeting Koharu, Mana, for some reason she couldn't even understand, decided to return and explore the Western Flatlands. That wasn't to say that she was unprepared this time, as she had brought plenty of water, sunscreen and even a parasol to deflect the sun's rays. And even taking into accout those precautions, their destiny wasn't the desert again, but the other areas of the place. Imagining what else could this place have made her excited, for the thrill of the unknown was just too alluring too resist; maybe Ryouta was right and she was a cat indeed but just hoped that the curiosity wouldn't kill her, or that at least she'd have other eight spare lives to keep doing fun stuff.
The travel on Penny's back had been really uneventful, and ultimely, they entered Folder Desert again. The fact that the only thing in this place was dunes, sand, and the ocasional digimon traveling in there was kinda dissapoiting, but as dusk began to fall and before Ayaka would recommend to just return to their home, as there wasn't anything really worthwhile in here, they saw it. They had only caught a glimpse of it, as they were really far away, but that was enough for Mana to just tell Penny to move forward to that place. It seemed... like so pretty big city ruins; maybe they belonged to an ancient civilization? The trio could only guess as they closed into it, as not even Penny knew of that place, and she was the most knowledgable one of this arid landscape.
The armored yellow dragon descended some distance away from it, maybe two hundred or so meters away, just in case the place was actually inhabited by something nasty or if the foundation of something was just too weak and the place ended up caving in on top of them; it'd be really lame to die because some buildings that were constructed before the birth of Yggdrasil after having survived to those banditos. As it was already dark, they wouldn't enter til the next morning, so Mana seized it the best way she could; by having a sleepover! Bringing out her D-Terminal, she began to write a message. Figuring that maybe it was kinda late in the Real World and that maybe Hideki was still at Mama Togemon and Papa Ponchomon's house (or totally oblivious to the fact that Papa chased him out in the case Aruraumon's infatuation with Troopmon had been discovered), she began write a message.
To: Tanaka Hideki <Hideki-kun> From: Tsumura Mana <Mana-chan> Subject: Sleepover!
Hi Hideki-kun! (*´∇`)ノ. How are you doing? Are you still at Mama and Papa's place? Because if you aren't, I discovered this really neat place that looks just like a giant ruined city! Isn't it neat? ◕◡◕ So, maybe you want to hang in there? It's kinda dark at the moment, but we can talk about stuff and we can even eat marshmallows! Who knows, maybe we can discover a lotta of interesting stuff \(^∀^)メ. I'm sending my coordinates to your D-Terminal with this message, so you can find me if you want to! Anyway, that's all! Tell me if you're interested. Byeeeeeeeeeeee!

The road from the Folder desert had been a rough one for Hideki and Troopmon. Stumbling through the desert, they had managed to run into a rather strange, talking train that allowed them to ride along. The train said that it was heading for a place called Terminus City, a place that sounded familiar to the boy, considering it was the only other civilization the boy had seen.. either way, that part isn't important now. What's important, is that the young tamer and his creepy cohort found themselves traveling in the back of a rickety boxcar in the dead of night through a barren wasteland. The terrain was inhospitable and empty when the two hopped on, the horizon was a jagged line, and the boy's deep snores were a constant source of irritation from the overworked Trailmon. As the ground grew from cracked and dry to fields of rolling grass, the creature finally spoke up. "Ey kid! Keep youze trap shut! I'm tryin' to do one of those sudokus up here, fuhgeddaboudit." The train's booming voice spoke English with an American accent, a Brooklyn accent. Hideki didn't know why.. he hadn't ever heard of a talking train in Brooklyn, but considering he had just left the home of a trio of a talking plants, it was far from the strangest thing he'd seen in the Digital World. But the train's accent wasn't important. The fact that it was doing sudoku without arms wasn't important. What was important was that Hideki's D-Terminal had a blinking LED on it for the first time.. a message from Mana. The boy skimmed the message with sleepy eyes before he realized what he was reading. Something something Mama and Papa something something city something something marshmallows. Then he realized that the subject said "sleepover" and he got every, very confused. Sleepover in a ruined city? Where was Mana going to get marshmallows from? He knew Mana could be a little spacey, but he felt the need to reply.. this had to be a joke. "Hey, Trail-san? Is there any way you can take us to these coordinates?" He told the creature the numbers in the email slowly, as to not anger the irritable Brooklynite train. "Yeh kid, it iddin too fah from 'ere. Dat's over on da Western thing, yeah? We'ze not too fah from dat right now, actually." Trailmon's booming voice reverberated off of the creature's silvery sides like a roll of thunder.. but apparently Troopmon could sleep to an Atom bomb. "Youze guys want me to drop youze off there?" "Actually, if it gets us out of your hair any sooner, totally! I don't want to be a burden, though Mr. Train. But we've got some friends over there and I'm sure they've got a way home." the boy didn't want to mention the dragon he'd seen them with before, because, well it would probably make the train upset that he could have messaged the girl for a ride but had forgotten. He reached into his pocket and retrieved his D-terminal.. he had a message to write.
To: Tsumura Mana <Mana-chan> From: Tanaka Hideki <me> Subject: Wait What?
Hey Mana-chan! Sorry if I took too long to respond.. I'm a pretty deep sleeper. But no, we're not at Ma and Pa's anymore.. a mutual rubber-brained friend got us kicked out! >.> Can you believe that? Well, it was probably for the best.. we had to get moving on home soon anyway. There's only so long you can stay at someone's place before you're considered a freeloader, right? As for this abandoned city thing.. I didn't even realize the Digital World had stuff like that! Awesome! =D Thanks for inviting me, I'd love to check that out and marshmallows sound awesome! You may have to provide them, though.. All we've got is a bag of BBQ chips and like.. two dozen apple pancakes. I hope you like breakfast xD Mr. Spooky Train-san says he can drop us off somewhere in the Western "thingy".. that anywhere near you? He said we're actually not that far from it.. so maybe if you've got Penny, you can keep an eye out for a big silver train with a bad accent? It'd probably be way easier to see from the air. Anyway, I'll see you and Ayaka soon (hopefully)!

Even if the message wasn't responded right away, Mana, Ayaka and Penny began to set the camp for five people; well, more like Ayaka only. She began to grow a mat of soft grass in the area were they currently were, sans for the center of it, more likely destined for a campifire would be at, and even grew some smalls trees for Penny to harvest lumber form; currently, due to nighttime, the plant was at her top working capacity, so she could do all those things without barely feeling tired, and if she had absorbed something today, it totally was sunlight due to the day in the desert.
Mana just waited in her spot in the floor while Ayaka began to grow some tents that seemed to be made purely out of grass; she was really expectant of the boy's answer, but began to grow doubtful; maybe he was sleeping in a comfy bed in the Human World, maybe he was busy at the moment or maybe even... he didn't like to be near her? She gasped at the last bit, but luckily, the response from Hideki arrived just in time to ease her. Apparently, he had been kicked out by something done by Troopmon? A pity. But that didn't matter as for now! What mattered was that he had responded and that now they were going to have so much fun!
To: Tanaka Hideki <Hideki-kun> From: Tsumura Mana <Mana-chan> Subject: Re: Wait What?
Don't worry, Hideki-kun, it's alright! ヽ(•‿•)ノ And a pity that Troopmon got yourselves, kicked, but don't worry, we'll have lots of fun in here! ↖(^▽^)↗ And yeah, I didn't know too that the Digital World had abandoned cities, but I guess that that's just a really exciting suprise, don't you think? And tou don't have to thank me about the invitation, I'm pretty sure that we'll have a lot of fun! Okay, okay, I'm repeating myself, and don't worry about the food. We went to Terminus before coming back here, so we're stocked, and yes! The pancakes sound great, even I don't know what they are! (◑○◑) About the Trailmon that's carrying you, yeah, of course! I'll make Penny look for it in the sky! Hopefully she'll find both you and Troopie-kun! See ya soon!ヾ(^∇^).
Having sent that. She told Penny to watch out for a silvery Trailmon from the skies. With any luck, she'll find it and guide Hideki towards where the group currently was. Then the fun would begin!

"A-chugga chugga an' a-woo woo even." The silvery blur raced along the rails with great speed and its passengers felt every bump. "Yo guys, youze friend a dragon? Cuz I think theh's a dragon up theh. An da dragons like.. circlin' or some shit."
Hideki tried not to comment on the train's profanity. Why would someone curse so casually like that? Was the dragon upsetting him somehow? Maybe he should send Mana another message and tell him that he was just gonna walk. "Um.. how far are we from the stop? If you want, I can ask the dragon to leave."
And audible sigh came from the engine. "Tuck and roll, kid. I ain't stoppin fah nothin'. Also, it's comin' up soon, so I dun waht youze guys ta miss ya friend. So.. heads up.." With a heaving noise, the boy and his digimon found themselves sailing through the air.. and the ground was coming up fast! Luckily, Troopmon was there to take the brunt of the hit for the pair, as Hideki landed atop the somehow STILL sleeping digimon.
"Hey, you big jerk! Why'd you do that?" The boy shouted after the train.
"Suck it up kid! BE A MAN!" A loud chuckle came from down the line. "Ugh. Friggin' tourists." Somewhere in the distance, a train whistle blew. It sounded like a laugh.
A beeping came from the boy's jacket pocket.. It had to be Mana wondering where they were... as he read the message, he heard a wooshing noise and prayed that the dragon nearby was Penny, as it was getting very dark. "Awh man.. being eaten by a monster would be the perfect end to a day like this one, right dunderhead?" He bopped his seemingly comatose friend on the head lightly as he said so. As he typed out his response to Mana's message, there was a rustling beneath him.
"o͠͞W҉".̨͘̕ the Troopmon sat up suddenly, knocking his tamer to the wet grass yet again as a large, yellow dragon approached. "You've got to be kidding me.."
To: Tsumura Mana <Mana-chan> From: Tanaka Hideki <me> Subject: Re: Re: Wait What?
So, apparently we're not on the train anymore! Woo! Down side, we kind of got thrown off in the middle of nowhere.. I heard a whoosh and I'm really hoping its Penny, but if she doesn't find us.. well, we're either dead or lost. It wouldn't be the first time. Wait no, I mean the lost part. xD Anyway, hope to see you soon! Note: if you ever run into a train that speaks fluent English with a Brooklyn accent, make sure to tell him off for me, will ya? Oh, and pancakes are like.. sweet pastry-esque stuff. I think we brought some syrup too, but they're good without them. Ma Togemon made them with fresh apples from her garden, but who knows with the Digital World, right? They could be potatoes for all I know, they just taste like apples. Well, here's a dragon. Wish me luck!
"So.. Penny? I really hope that's you..." Hideki stood there, trying to let his eyes adjust from the bright screen of his D-terminal. Everything was so dark.

Penny ascended to the skies, searching for train digimon. As of now, the area seemed to be deserted, but soon enough she found tracks; Trailmon tracks. As she began to go towards them, she found the Trailmon traveling towards who knew where. She approached, closing the distance between them on a quick fashion. Some distance later, she saw how the Trailmon apparently ejected the pair, and both Hideki and Troopmon were sailing through the air now, to the dragon's dismay. Luckily, the human used his digimon as some kind of cushion, making it to take the brunt of the impact. She sighed relieved at that, as she wouldn't have been able to look at Mana or Ayaka with a straight face if she failed to do such a simple task as returning the boy unscathed.
The whistle of the Trailmon sounded on a somewhat funny way, but the Ginryumon decided to ignore the sound as she finally closed on the place. Landing softly and gracefully on the soft ground below, just in front of the pair, the yellow dragon smiled at them. "Hi, Hideki-kun, Troopie-kun!" she greeted cheerily "Glad I could find you in time before anything else found ya first. Well, there's no time to waste, just hop on my back!".
Having said that, Penny kneeled, offering the not-so-tall pair an opening to climb up her armor all the way towards her back. Once the two of them were secure in there, she took the skies again, with her direction being the camp where both Mana and Ayaka were. Meanwhile, in the very same place, Mana was finishing to light up the campfire, and just as the spark ignited the wooden sticks arranged in it, her D-Terminal sounded again. Another message from Hideki, it seemed. Yet, just before she could answer it, or even ask what the heck was supposed to be 'Brooklyn', she was already seeing Penny coming back, and she was already seeing both Hideki and Troopmon on top of her back, as she came closer and closer to the designated place. Once again, she landed on a soft and graceful manner, kneeling once again for her occupants to jump down from her back, finally devolving into her Ryudamon form when she was finished.
Mana, on her place, waved happily at both the digimon and human. "Hideki-kun!" she said happily as she ran towards the shorter boy and hugged him "Glad to see you're alright! How've you been? And what exactly did Troopie-kun that Mama and Papa kicked you out of their ranch? You don't have to answer if you don't have too, of course! Come, have a seat and some marshmallows; they're pretty good! Oh, and also, Hi, Troopie-kun! Sorry for forgetting about you!" Right after, she gestured to the boy the small campfire in the center of the strangely-green place in the middle of the desert. At the feet of said campfire, there were at least six or seven wooden sticks with marshmallows on them. They were slowly cooking themselves. "Oh, and if you don't like them hot, I've a bag of them in my backpack, so don't worry!".

"Oh thank God. Hey Penny!" Hideki walked to the dragon and climbed her armor-plated sides and onto her back. Troopmon just kind of bounded up, but that's probably one of the many upsides of being composed of rubbery..stuff. The digimon climbed much more naturally than Hideki, with his suction cup hands and sure footing.. either way, not gonna say that no one slipped, but I'm not gonna say it was Hideki either. Eventually, they made their way onto Penny's back and found a nice, comfy (for a dragon's back) place to sit. It wasn't long before they spotted a small dot in the distance, a glowing dot.. a campfire?
Hideki and Troopmon didn't waste any time making their way to the fire, they boy saw his friend and the digimon saw marshmallows. They were greeted warmly by their allies. Hideki even got a hug! "Mana-chan! It's good to see you too." He watched his mischievous digimon out of the corner of his eye. Troopmon had no concept of self-control.. well, that or balance. The night wouldn't be a happy one if the digimon fell into the campfire. "We've been.. well, we've been adventuring. I guess that's the right word. Still haven't figured out a way to get back home yet, though. Train-san said something about a Terminal and he was taking us there, but I got your email and had to come check this out." When Mana asked him what the digimon did to get them kicked out, Hideki just sighed. "No, no it's fine. I'll tell ya. Well.. apparently Troopmon was romantically involved with Aruraumon. Do you remember her? So.. apparently Ponchomon didn't like that idea so he chased us out. I didn't think Ma had anything against it, but Pa.. Pa just wanted to protect his little girl, you know? Troopie isn't exacly what you'd call normal."
When the girl mentioned they could have some marshmallows, Troopmon made a sprint to the fire, grabbing a whole stick and slowly placing it into a hole behind his mask. He didn't even notice the rest of the world, for he had food. "Thanks Mana-chan! You didn't have to go through all of this hard work for us.. but we're very, very grateful!" Chewing sounds were heard as he pulled the stick back out.
Hideki took a seat next to his ravenous partner, "Hey buddy, don't eat all the marshmallows at once. Save some for everyone else, okay? Here." He reached into his bag, and gave the digimon a thin, soft pastry that was somehow still warm. Hideki had long since stopped trying to explain them, but the pancakes were data.. so maybe that was why they didn't go bad? Ma DID say that she made the best apple pancakes in the whole world, after all. "Do you want one, Mana-chan? So, Ayaka-chan, how have you been? You've been pretty quiet so far."

Hideki returned the girl her greeting, explaining to her that both him and Troopmon have been 'adventuring', just for not saying that they were trying to get to their way back home just yet and that Pa had chased the duo out of their house because Aruraumon and Troopmon were an... item? Well, that one was really unexpected, but she hadn't stayed in the house for too much, so she guessed that she didn't really know Aruraumon... or what she had seen in Hideki's digimon. Not to offend Troopie, but he just seemed a little too... simple minded to fully understand what love was. But heck, if Forrest Gump could do it, why Troopie couldn't? "Oh, too bad. Well, luckily you got out of that one unscathed. I've met some overprotective parents... and the result wasn't as good, but that doesn't matter now. And I find a bit prejudiced that Pa thought of Troopie-kun as not-normal. I mean, he talks on a funny way, but he's way better than a whole lot of digimon guys I've met so far. And Deputymon was really cool too! I just wonder how his next evolution will look...".
At Troopmon's mad dash towards the marshmallows, Mana giggled with amusement. That guy was really funny. Yet, she didn't expect to recieve a 'Thank you' from her peer. Waving it as if what she had done wasn't really much, she just smiled at him. "Don't mention it, Hideki-kun. You're a good friend, after all! And don't worry, I've a whole lot of them, so Troopie-kun can eat freely for now". Mana looked at the pastries offered with curiosity, taking a pancake with a smile just before that expression became... sad when the boy asked Ayaka about how she felt. The guilty still lingered in the girl's mind, even if Ayaka had accepted her apologies.
Ayaka, on her side, looked somewhat too inside her own thoughts, but immediately gave the boy a small smile when he asked about she was. "Oh, it is nothing, Hideki-kun, but thanks for asking" she dismissed with a wave of her hand as she laid a little more away from the fire than the rest of the group. Truth to be told, physically she was alright, but... "I think I am still recovering from the fight, you know".
Her partner's feelings had made her lost all traces of self-control back then, and she was still thinking about. Granted, Mana had apologized to her all the way back to Terminus for letting her emotions get the best of her, but was she really accountable for that? She had thought she had lost two dear friends, and when Deputymon and Hideki showed, the damage had been already done. Deep down, Ayaka even thought of it as her own fault because if she had enough energy to evolve into her perfect stage naturally, that probably wouldn't have happened in first place and she'd have spared Mana from a lot of despair, but... there was nothing she could do about that, except to let it fade into her memories. After all, the two of them had tried the best, and in the end they've saved the day, and that was mattered most now.
"Anyway, do not let the mood drop because of me, as I am fine, after all" she finally said "With your permission, I think I am going to sleep. Good night" and having said that, she just entered on of the smaller grass-tents in the campsite.
Mana sighed at that, knowing full well that that was an excuse, but decided that her partner maybe wanted some time for herself. It had been a long day, and maybe having this sleepover wasn't the best idea, but it had been done already. "I thought that maybe this would cheer her up" the girl finally said, sighing "I'm not the best at coming with ideas to do that, it seems... anyway, these pancakes are really good".
Penny, who was eating a marshmallow right now, approached Hideki too, with curiosity shining in her eyes. She had joined the team not to long ago, and so, she was unfamiliar with the dynamics between Ayaka and Mana, but in her position she just thought that what had happened in that battle would be better left between them, as she thought she was in no position to intervene. "Can I have a pancake too, Hideki-kun? Pleasee~?" she said while extending her dragon-paws towards the boy with a face that'd make the puss in boots look like an amateur.
"By the way, Hideki-kun, how did you get into the Digital World in first place? I had forgotten to ask that back at Ma and Pa's, but I found rather weird to find you here. Have you found a portal or something? Or you just used to good old train station?".

“Yeah, I totally understand that.. I mean, most of the ones I’ve met have tried to eat me!” He paused for a second to reconsider that second before thinking that maybe he needed to make more friends. “Yeah, Deputymon was pretty awesome. If you would have asked me the last thing I expected to save us though, I probably would have said Troopmon’s cowboy cosplay. Going by that logic, his next form is either going to be a Kamen Rider, a dinosaur, or Kotemon-sensei.”
As Ayaka spoke and retreated from the group, Hideki felt terrible. If he and Troopmon had just been quicker.. if Deputymon would have arrived before Ayaka had changed, or maybe even if he had just stopped running away from the house, everything would be okay. Then Mana wouldn’t have thought that everyone was dead.. She’d know that Aria and Troopmon was okay.. it’d just have been hi- No, don’t think about that, Hideki. Stop that! The boy was snapped out of that guilt spiral by Mana’s sigh.
“Yeah, Ma’s pancakes were the best I’ve ever eaten. I mean, she could literally only make breakfast food and ya get tired of that after a while, but every once in a while, it’s just awesome. The next time I talk to her, I’ll be sure to let her know that you like them. Maybe I can get the recipe or something.” Just then, Penny approached with the most adorable face Hideki had ever seen. No kidding. He had to physically stop himself from rushing to the tiny dragon and giving her a hug. “Of course you can have a pancake, Penny-chan! I’ve got plenty here. If you like them, you can have as many as you want. Just make sure to save some for Ayaka-chan, alright? She looks like she could use some.”
“It’s a long story, really. Troopmon well, Chikurimon back then, decided that it was a fantastic idea to chase an ice-cream guy on a scooter. I chased him down in my pajamas, fell into a river, and then we were somewhere in a trashcan in the middle of the woods. Strange, huh?” The boy didn't even mention that somehow his clothes had changed when they woke up, or the thing with Ann and the Fangmons. That was too much detail, and really was just kind of irrelevant. But the conversation, as adorable as Penny was and no matter how good the pancakes were, there was still a sadness to the air. Hideki really wanted to go hug Ayaka or hug Mana, or heck, he'd hug Troopmon or Penny. Really, everyone just looked like they needed a hug. That same air of sadness seemed to loom over his friend like a sheet.
“Don’t blame yourself, Mana-chan. Really, don’t. She just needs time to get over it. I mean, maybe a grief counselor or something would work. Or, maybe she just needs tickles, some pancakes.. and if Troopmon hasn’t eaten all of our graham crackers, we can make some really bad smores. I don’t think I have any chocolate, but it’s the thought that counts, right?” He smiled weakly and pat his friend on the shoulder.
Reaching into his backpack, he produced a third of a pack of graham crackers. "Come on, we're camping! All of this clean air, the stars are out, and the campfire is crackling. This isn't the time for being sad! Let's tell spooky campfire stories or go on a hike or something!"

Mana giggled at her friend telling her about their experiences with digimons trying to eat him and her suspicions about Troopmon's next evolution. "Oh, my idol actually has a digimon that's a dinosaur that looks like as if was straight out of Kamen Rider Fourze! He has his own Astroswitches and all! Isn't that pure awesome? I'd be so cool if Troopie became something like that too!".
After Ayaka had left the scene and the atmosphere became a little more heavy, luckily lightening up when Hideki offered them food, Penny, on her side, smiled widely at the boy giving her the pastry, munching it happily. "It tastes really good! Thank you, Hideki-kun! If you ever need a ride somewhere, just tell me! And don't worry, I'm always looking after Aya-chan—err, Ayaka-sama! If she asks, I've never spoken about her informally, okay?".
The girl laughed both at Penny's display and at how Hideki and Troopie had entered the Digital World. These guys were just too funny. "A Pity that Troopie-kun couldn't get his ice-cream at the end. I'm totally buying him some when we get back to our world. He deserves it after being so courageous back in the ranch".
Yet, at Hideki saying that she didn't have to blame herself, she nodded a little sad. That was the problem "That's precisely the thing, Hideki-kun... really can't blame myself, even when I want to. That's why I feel so bad, but I guess that time will eventually make me accept what had happened there". It was some weird reasoning, but truth was that if the same situation repeated a thousand times, she'd still react the very same way, even knowing beforehand that the end result would be Ayaka dark-digievolving. She appreciated her friends too much to not to feel that emptiness if she felt that she had lost them, and after that emptiness came that desire for... revenge. It was something she just couldn't control, almost as if it were the core of her being, and she couldn't blame herself for that same reason, because that was just how she was. That didn't stop her from feeling sad, though.
Still, she managed to give the boy a small smile when he tried to cheer her up, offering either food or to do some activity related to campsites. If she was honest with herself... yeah, she could sure use some talking with the boy. Even if she didn't know much of him, she was sure that they'd be good friends in due time and... she also felt that she could trust in him. "I guess I could use a walk in the dunes. You know, Hideki-kun, I..." she seemed somewhat nervous about what she was about to say "Need someone to talk to. Penny-chan and Ayaka are great listeners, no offense, but it's just that I'd really like an... unbiased point of view, so to say. So, wanna be my grief counselor? I swear that it's not related to what happened there".
It was nice to finally have some friends who were about her age. Ryuu was cool and all, but he just acted as if he was thirty years old instead of thirteen. She felt that she was going to be good friends with both Aria and the now, Hideki, but could only hope that her first thirteen years-old male friend wouldn't be subject to the fate of every male friend she had. Nah, those were depressing thoughts, so she decided to just push them away as she began her trek in the now moonlight-lit desert, with Penny in tow.

"Well.. you think that compared to something like a Kamen Rider dinosaur, a robot cowboy isn't nearly as cool.." Hideki would have felt a sense of the digimon tamer equivalent to buyer's remorse, but he really did like his partner. They were like brothers, well, how brothers were supposed to be. They bickered, they fought, they stole each other's food, but in the end they had each other's backs. "But I guess I'm stuck with the jerk, so I guess it's saving the best for last."Hideki laughed at the small dragon's verbal slip. "It's alright, Penny-chan. I won't tell a soul. I'm glad that you like them though. I'll make sure to bring some more next time." When Mana mentioned that she was going to buy Troopmon pancakes, the digimon leapt to his feet to go hug the girl, wrapping her in his oddly warm embrace. "M̸͘͞a̕N͠a͘͠͡-̕C̢͠H͝҉ąN͝͞ iS ̷Ţ͏R̷̀͘o͢͜Ò̡P͡M̨͝o̷N͡'̀́S̶͟͞ FąV͢o̕͏Ri̸̧T̡E ͡H̴͟uM̴̛̕aN ̸̕Ņ̸͞o͞W.̶̧͝ ̶̶͟ ̷̷TR̴o̢͢O͜͢P҉͏͜M̨oŃ̀͠ ̨͜L̸͟͡o̶V̕͠͡e̸ ̛M̸a̡̡N̶͟a̡-C͏H̀á̴N͟ ͏Ļ̛i̸̛̕Ke ̧P̸̨͞a͏͟͡Ǹ̸Ca̕K̕͜e̴͟." Then again, he had been by the fire for most of the night, so that seemed about right. He released the tamer slowly and softly, then promptly returned to staring at marshmallows. Hideki knew the girl looked sad, but her logic was sound. Being worried about her friends WAS the right thing to do, regardless of the bad stuff that happened afterwards. "I completely agree with you. You're just human. It was the right thing to do."Mana seemed nervous when she answered his offer . “Of course you can talk to me, dude. I mean, that’s what friends are for, right? Unbiased is my middle name! Well, it’s not.. my middle name is Ulysses. You see, my dad’s Japanese and my mom is from America. I was.. well, you don’t wanna’ hear about that. What I’m trying to say is that yeah, I’ll be your grief counselor.” He grabbed one of the few remaining sticks with marshmallows and his bag before standing up. “So, I guess we’re going to for a walk? And even if you want to talk about it, then I’m all ears.” Having friends was nice. Hideki had always had troubles with keeping kids interested in him. He was kind of a boring kid. He didn’t have the newest games, his clothes were old, and his apartment stank. But that didn’t matter with people like Mana or Aria or Duffer.. or really any of his newest friends. They liked him for him, and he’d be damned if he was going to do them anything less. “Troopmon, you want to come with us? Your glowy eye thing makes an awesome flashlight. Oh, and I have the pancakes.” The digimon leapt from his sitting position at the mention of food. The creature’s luminescent eyes glowed a bright yellow, not unlike his fresh stage, the humble Botamon. The group wandered into the dark forest, glowing eyes leading their path as they strolled into the unknown.

THE LOST CIVILIZATION [2/4] "Ryoko-sama is just that cool" Mana just said as response "And hey, I got the butt-end of the deal then: a forest fairy. Even though I wouldn't trade Ayaka for anything, a fairytale being isn't nearly as badass as either of your guys. And Troopie-kun is really cool!".
Right after Penny sighed relieved because Hideki promised to not to tell anyone, saving her of the grievous offense Ayaka would take if she found out that her apprentice of sorts had been disrespectful towards her; Troopmon did something unexpected towards Mana, he actually... hugged her? and it felt warm to boot. Maybe she was in dire need of that, considering that even if the hug's reason was because she had promised to buy him food when they returned, it just felt good to feel the arms of the 'mon rounding her frame. Returning the hug and rubbing the digimon's head as if he were a dog, she just stayed that way until Troopie undid the hug.
Giving a small smile at Hideki understanding her situation and even, and even offering himself to be talked about the plethora of problems she was going through right now. She even giggled a bit at the explanation of his heritage; this guy definitely knew how to light up a tense situation. And so, as they walked together through the desert with the the undead and the dragon in tow, the girl began to speak. "If you don't want to give me your opinion, it just isn't necessary, because as I said, I just wanted somebody to heard up my situation, you know... Anyway! The thing is more or less like this...
You know, even if I usually look like a happy girl, the truth is that I'm really emotional, and more likely than not, emotions mostly always get the best of me.
This happened way back in time, just the day I got Ayaka; you should have seen her! she was a small Plumulmon that didn't even had a mouth and needed to be 'planted' and watered in order to evolve for the first time into her In-Training stage. Back then, I didn't know almost anything about digimons, just as you the day I met, and Ayaka without being able to speak or the tell me what she really wanted made me worry about her so much! But back to the story, that day, in the park I met a boy... his name was Ryouta, Noguchi Ryouta. He was a great guy and he helped me out so much during that day, even when I shouted at him because I thought that the idea of 'planting' Ayaka was akin to... you know, burying her alive. So, shortly... I became so hysteric about the fact that my little seedling that couldn't even speak wanted to kill herself, even if that really wasn't the case. Luckily, Draco-kun, his partner, somewhat calmed me down and Ryouta planted Ayaka and watered her as I cried my heart out about the 'abominable' thing that was happening. Yeah, you can laugh at that right now if you want, but the fact that Ryouta helped me even when I was a nervous and crying wreck touched me deeply. And that very same day, I began crushing on him".
The girl took a deep breath before continuing, while Penny, even if watching for possible hostile digimons, had both her ears perked out at Mana's speech; after all, if she understood her better, she'd be able to help her better. It had nothing to do with juicy gossip. Nothing at all.
"Yet, Ryo-kun is as dense as they come, Hideki-kun, and that day, I wasn't even sure of my feelings, but they began to grow, just as Ayaka had grown that day, but the lasting impression I got about him was that he only saw me as a little sister of sorts, and that feeling just slithered through my body like a snake. You may say now 'but what's the big problem about an unrequited crush?', and the thing is that that isn't the problem, but you now know the context of the situation, so the question is... Are you willing to bear with a plot that seems out of a really cheesy soap opera? I'd rather stop if you aren't".

Hideki listened intently to Mana’s story as they walked. The idea of Ayaka as someone not taller than him was surprising enough for the boy, even though he remembered Troopmon’s baby form all too well. I guess all digimon start that way, huh.
The name Ryouta seemed vaguely familiar to Hideki. Maybe he’d heard it somewhere before. There was that kid at the Gunpla store.. the big, strong one with the black hair. He was cool. Shoppin’ for his little brother, Hideki remembered helping him pick a kit. He was a nice guy and Hideki could see why Mana liked him. It surprised Hideki to learn that that Ryouta was dense, but then again that’s right about most kids his age, Hideki included. When the mention of unrequited crushes came up, Hideki winced internally. He remembered Ryoko-chan and.. wait, RYOKO had the dinosaur kamen rider spaceship? That’s totally not fair! Hot, smart, cool, famous Ryoko and her awesome digimon… gah.
“Look, Mana. I know how hard it is to like someone and them not liking you back. I’m just sayin’ this so you know that I get where you’re coming from.. but yes, of course, I’m more than willing to hear out your ‘cheesy soap opera’ if it means that it helps. But if you want to stop, I’m alright with that too." Hideki gave his now-trademarked weak smile as he faced the girl before he spoke. "So listen, I’m your friend and that means I’m here for ya regardless.” He paused, realizing that he was getting a little sappy. He felt like a bad Lifetime movie. So, in typical Hideki fashion he tried to lighten the mood with a joke. “Plus, we’re already stuck here in the middle of nowhere, what else are we going to do? So if you need to spill your guts out, go ahead. I won’t judge ya.”

Mana smiled gratefully at the boy wanting to hear the rest of the tale; maybe he didn't know where it headed, but she was grateful at his understanding. "Don't worry. As I said the problem isn't as simple as Ryo-kun not liking me back, well, at least not the problem in the long run, but I digress. The thing is that between that meeting and our next one, I unintentionally met one of Ryo-kun's best female friends, Karin. At first she had this aloof and antisocial air, but deep down she's just a nice girl, but with time we became great friends and now she's my BFF and surrogate sister!" she was always happy to remember that fact, that's for sure "But going back to topic, we talked, and when we realized that the both of us knew the same guy, I kinda just told her about how I felt, and asked her for advice; after all, they have been friends since they were really young, and surpringly, she said that I had to persevere, and that way he may notice me THAT way!
So what's the problem, you ask? Around time, I met another cute guy at a café, yet he seemed to be all that Ryouta wasn't; he was sensible, down-to-earth and was almost like... 6'8'' at fifteen. Yeah, tallest guy I've ever met in my entire life. Cutting to the chase, I don't know if you know what spirit users are, but basically, they are guys who turn themselves into digimons with some thing called 'Digispirit'; at first I found it neat, but then... I discovered, or rather, that guy told me that his spirits weren't quite sane. In short, he told me that they were ax-crazy, but when I saw them, they looked pretty normal to me. Mind you, this is when the soap opera begins".
She had chosen to not to mention some details, as her tale was just too long, and the gist would understood anyway, even if that didn't make whatever was currently happening to her any easier. Sighing, she began to speak again.
"We met twice, and the guy even saved my life once; feelings began to grow towards him. So, in that precise moment, I had two crushes; Ryo-kun and Charles-kun, the guy I've met previously and that I've been talking about. Now you may think that the problem is me dealing with two crushes? Wrong again; I still liked Ryo-kun more, but that same day that Charles-kun saved my life, Ryo-kun had this strange experience. You may or may not believe me and you may or may not start laughing, but right in the park where he, another boy named Tatsuya, a digimon named UFADO and me were, another Ryouta appeared. I didn't understand it so much at that time, but he is supposedly from another dimension, and personified his desire to enact justice no matter what. A really complex and long speech and leaving Ryo-kun's digimon in a half-dead state later, the guy just dissapeared. And if that wasn't absurd enough, another Ryouta from another dimension appeared right after, and this one seemed to be his more lawful, less-chaotic side. Mind you, at that moment I was as perplexed as you may currently be, and obviously saw the previous other-dimensional Ryouta as the bad guy while seeing the newest as the good one so... you may guess how I felt after he addressed me right after his very own long-winded speech, saying that he only saw me as his little sister.
Having being told that by an extradimensional guy without the original Ryouta even knowing my feelings towards him in first place was the nail that sealed the coffin. And so, I decided to forget my feelings about him and just remain as friends, choosing focus on my feelings towards Charles-kun, because he seemed to be a nice enough guy, and I really had a great time with him. Was I wrong? Of course I was, but... the climax of the history gets a bit... gory. Mind you, I'm really squeamish, so if you don't want to keep hearing, I totally understand. Also, if you have any questions as of now, you can totally ask them".

It was nice hearing about someone’s friendships. Hideki didn’t know exactly how well he’d get along with someone that was aloof and antisocial.. he tended to think that people really didn’t like him. Hm.. 'wait, is Duffer my only male friend? I think he’s my only male friend.' Huh.
‘Well, Karin’s advice makes sense. You said he was really dense.’ Hideki thought. He was working the story through in his mind, not specifically commenting on anything in particular. When Mana mentioned the other guy, ‘The plot thickens…’ Then he felt really, really insecure about his masculinity. The guy was more than two feet taller than him an only two years older.. He sounded like a nice guy though, and ‘Digispirits’ sounded awesome! Oh. Turning into a murderous digimon sounded the like, well, the opposite of awesome. When Mana had mentioned a soap opera, he had thought about evil twins or jilted ex-lovers becoming psycho murderers.. but it had been a joke. Suddenly the story about young love had become something darker.
Two crushes didn’t sound too bad. One being a murder monster by night scared him a little though. ‘I mean, what if it just goes off? What if the spirit decides it doesn’t like you and just offs you? He may be a great guy, but if he has a monster in his head, that’s not exactly safe.’ He honestly feared for Mana’s safety. But, the guy had saved her once.. so, Hideki wasn’t exactly where the guy’s spirit stood. ‘I guess that’s what he meant by crazy.’
‘Parallel dimensions? Alternate selfs? Alright. Mana was right, this was officially a soap opera. Well, it’s the coolest soap opera ever, but it was still her life. Which is sad. Exciting, but sad. It’s really like… what were those books with the vampires and the werewolves?' Whatever it was, he wished he could go out and buy a Team Ryouta shirt. Until Mana told him that the future one didn’t like her. Or rather, he didn’t like her that way. But then she warned him that it gets gory. Hideki immediately leapt to the worst possible conclusion, that Charles had murdered Ryouta.. or tried to kill Mana.
“Oh god! Did you die? No wait, that’s stupid. Did Ryouta die? Wait.. no, that couldn’t work either considering he came back from the future. That and I just met him a while back. Hm. Wait, you did say ‘Parallel Dimensions’ right? I’m sorry, your story is just really interesting. You can keep going if you want.” The boy was clearly engrossed in the story and was currently wondering if Mana had already sold her movie rights. His eyes were wide with wonder and he had been walking slower as he began to get caught up in Mana's ever-expanding tale. Troopmon was actually walking pretty close behind too. The digimon did love its drama. There's a reason it had stolen Kenichi's netflix password.

At the boy's question, Mana couldn't but giggle. They had made the atmosphere less dense, to say the least. "No, nobody died yet, and you met Ryo-kun? That's good to hear! He's a nice guy, isn't he? And I don't really fully understand the parallel dimension stuff myself, just that they probably have the same people than our world, but things happened that affected the personalities of the people who inhabit them in some way. Well, going back to the rest of thing, it goes like this...".
She took a deep breath again before continuing. This was the part that mattered, after all. "After his lawful outer-dimensional self said that there was no way of him seeing me as more than a friend and converting the pillow in my room in a water-pillow, I finally decided to search for happiness in Charles; you know, I had the notion that if he had enough love in his life maybe that would help him control his spirits better, and that way we'd gain some resemblance of normalcy. With that in mind, I decided to help him find two more spirits he was searching because he had reasoned that if he found all his spirits, maybe they'd leave him alone. In the climax of our quest, we sumbled into some kind of abandoned mansion that hid an underground compound. Long story short, after almost drowing and an epic fight where Ayaka fought really uneven odds, Charles-kun finally got his spirits and the result... wasn't pretty. The most powerful of them was an amalgam of stitched corpses, not much unlike the Frankestein monster, but extremely big and a lot more feral. He massacred at least ten champions and five or so ultimates with ease and was... kinda about to kill me right afterwards, but stopped in the nick of time".
In truth, Mana wondered why Chaoskimeramon was capable of such raw power for a digimon that wasn't even categorized as ultimate, but she was digressing. The thing was just too terrifying to think about it. Now, the thing was about what followed right after.
"Mind you, Charles lives on a vagrant-like lifestyle, at least the last time I checked on him, but not because he doesn't have parents, but because he's afraid of hurting them since he got his spirits, so right after that incident happened, I decided to bring him to my home, got him to bathe and we went out for our first date. We first went to Shibuya 104 to buy him some new clothes, as the ones he was already using kinda... well, you know. Anyway, maybe I was susceptible because what had happened that day, but uh... this is kinda complex to explain. Let's say that inside the mall we met with Karin-nee and Ryoko-sama" she had finally said, deciding to not to mention the incident with Tatsuya for now "And she... decided to sing in the middle of the mall for us. Yeah, I know; it sounds just as something too crazy, but it just happened. It was so romantic but then it was just... blown up. Rabid fans appeared from all the place, and showered us, and all of Shibuya 104's lower floor with water ballons; apparently, wet-shirt photos of Ryoko-sama fetched high prices on the net, but not satisfied with that, they even began stampeding towards us and even tried to rip Ryoko-sama's clothes! That didn't matter for me at that time, because... my first date with my boyfriend had been totally ruined. My hair was wet, dress soaked and he had even gone to help Ryoko instead of consoling me. I was his girlfriend, and I was crying; maybe it was selfish, but I expected him to pay attention to me instead of a woman that he had just met and could probably defend herself, and even if she couldn't, she had a space dinosaur at her side that could fry everyone who tried to lay a finger on her".
Her eyes became teary at the memory; that moment had hurt her deeply. For a moment, she had even thought that Charles was infatuated with Ryoko. Wiping them shortly after, she continued. "Luckily, Karin-nee saved the date. It's really a relief to have such a good sister as her, you know. She bought us new clothes, and even gave me some fashion tips! It was almost as if the problem had been solved! And so, Ryoko-sama, Karin-nee and me and Charles-kun parted ways, and the date continued in the same café were Charles-kun and me met. You'd think that things would get better from that point on, don't you? Nope, not at all".
Then, Mana facepalmed herself at omitting such an important detail. The freaking cape. "I forgot to mentioned that some amount before Charles got his spirits, we went to some kind of strange cave and a Nanomon gave him a strange cape. I didn't know what it did, but for some reason Charles-kun used it wherever he went afterwards and, uh... well, Karin-nee in the mall said that a guy using a cape was... a fashion paux pas or something a like that; basically, that it seemed that he was cosplaying like a superhero or something and that just wouldn't do. Thing was that I began to piece things together, and suspected that that thing was maybe responsible of making him lose control of his spirits, because they've been rather docile before he donned it, so I kinda frantically said that it was better if he didn't use it. And... that very thing was the responsible of holding back his most wild spirit, it seemed; yeah, the one who massacred those digimons I mentioned earlier. Karin-nee noticed that, and said that he'd use it again, but for some reason, instead of putting it in his back, he just carried it like how waiters carry their serviettes".
Sighing, but kinda glad that the detail was now given, she continued with her previous tale. "And so, the date at the café was... strange, for the lack of a better word. Long story short, I became mad at him again because he didn't want to talk to me about his family and I just thought something like... 'This guy's supposed to be my boyfriend, but he's not even willing to give me his surname!' Yeah, I know that that one was really selfish too, but that coupled with what had happened in the mall were just too much for me. And so, I left the café crying".
Another sad memory, and the one that followed it was even the more sad, at least to her. "What would you have done in his stead? Ryo-kun answered that he'd follow me and apologize until the end of his days if it were necessary, and Charles-kun did that... but up to an extent. He followed me until the café's exit, but right afterwards he told me that he'd be waiting for me in the place that I chased after him when we first met" at this, tears began to flow from her face "I was the one sad because of something he had done, Hideki-kun! Why the heck I'd be following him when he was the one that was supposed to apologize to me!? What was happening was about me, not about him!".
At this, she just sobbed silently for a minute or two, just too sad to continue her tale, but eventually found the strength to do so. "I tripped near the statue and fell facefirst to the floor, but I just didn't care. It was as if everything around me didn't exist anymore. Later, Ayaka would tell me that after she had tried for the fifth or so time to making me react, that she sent a message to Karin-nee's D-Terminal and that's why she came so quickly to where I was. She helped me to get up, or at least to not to lie facefirst in the middle of the most popular square of Shibuya. Charles-kun appeared right after and, after some berating done by Karin, finally began to act like a man. He apologized and I gave him another chance. We came back to the café, and that's were the situation began to spiral downward.
Apparently, Charles had lost the cape, and now was beginning to lose self-control. He punched a waiter and ran away. Even if I was really confused, I decided to follow him. He was near Hachiko's statue again, but this time, he just looked like a rabid dog instead of a person. I tried to make him listen to reason while Karin searched for the cape, but before I knew what had happened, a police officer appeared just besides me and was about to apprehend him because he believed that he was in drugs, and that's when he evolved... and ran one of his clawed hands through the officer's stomach. The last thing I remember about that was the blood spattering in my dress, my shriek of horror and... losing consciousness right there. I haven't seen Charles-kun ever since, and every time I see Karin or Ayaka, they're just too vague about what had happened. I've tried to find Charles-kun ever since, but it was as if he had dissapeared from the face of the Earth, or the Digital World, for that matter. Something along the lines of two months had happened from that day, but, I'm still trying to find him. The story continues, but that was the hardest part to stomach. The true problem still lies ahead, though, but I'd like to hear your opinion about this so far".
