"So far, Digivices don't seem to have communication methods," Maia informed, wrapping the In-training in the most dry part of the scarf to keep him warm. "If you let me see your phone for a minute, though, I'll just put my number in and you can send me a text or something." It seemed like the most sound method, since she didn't upkeep her social media too well. When was the last time she even put up a picture or something? In fact, she probably hadn't updated it to having moved to Japan! Oops! Not that it really mattered. Phones existed for a reason.
Kyaromon rolled a little, until unable to due to the restrictions of his makeshift blanket and tamer's hands. "I'm a burrito!" Yes, this was something the bunny was proud of. If only he could be a burrito every day! But, then someone would eat him, and that was no good. The only one around here who should be eating stuff was him!
This reminded Maia of another important detail. "Once it hatches, it can eat human food, by the way. You're going to have to make sure to feed it, unless it tells you otherwise." After all, Antiqmon didn't eat; she just needed wound up daily. But, that was a literal chunk of wood that could blow bubbles. Who knew what was inside of this egg, though? Maybe it was a parrot, or even a robot? Or Kyaromon's baby form, Pafumon. She could only shudder at the thought of a second of him running around, though. "If you've got any questions, you can always send me a message about it, too." It sure would have been nice if these things came with manuals.

The suggestion that Maia had made actually made much more sense to John. He did prefer texting or calling someone, rather than attempting to contact them on social media. Besides, it was so much more personal to share phone numbers. It was a really good sign that she trusted him. "Okay, here." John proceeded to fish out his phone before handing it off to the blonde girl.
"Human food, you say? Well that shouldn't be an issue." Said John. "And don't worry. I won't hesitate to contact you if anything comes up." He offered a soft smile to Maia. "And if you like, we can always hang out again some time. It doesn't have to be Digimon related. We can just hang out and chat. Enjoy each other's company, and stuff."

Maia tapped a couple of buttons on the phone, "as long as you don't mind if Kyaromon comes along," she nodded, inputting 'Maia Quinn' and her phone number. After all, if something urgent came up, she didn't want him to be at a total loss. Social media was no way to contact a person when there was a time limit.
"I like to eat things when unsupervised!" Kyaromon shouted, essentially copying what Maia often scolded him for. "I like to be a piggy bank! It's funny, cause I don't know what a bank is and I'm not even pink!" To this, the burrito giggled, causing a distressed look from his tamer. Man, he was pretty awful sometimes. How did he get so excited about eating coins? It wasn't healthy, and certainly didn't help Maia when she wanted to save the change for something. At least he had only eaten maybe a dollars worth, but that was more than enough for the girl to be frustrated over.
"Yeah. If only I could break you open to get my money back," Maia mumbled, pulling on one of the rubbery monster's ears, which easily stretched, then bounced back to an alert position upon being released. Hopefully that trait would carry on to his next form. The girl found some form of relief in stretching the digimon's ears past what they really should. Mostly because it didn't hurt him. In fact, Kyaromon began another giggle fit! "But, yeah. It's easier just to text me if you want to get ahold of me, though. I don't always answer calls." Really, the tamer wasn't even sure why she didn't answer her phone calls. Talking was just a pain sometimes!

John was generally pleased with himself that he managed to make a good first impression with Maia. "Texting it is, then." The man now displayed a friendly smile to the pair while he waited for Maia to finish with his phone. So many possibilities would begin to race through his mind of what it would like to raise a Digimon. And with these possibilities, came questions and concerns. How would he be able to be out in public with his Digimon partner? Did humans know about their existence? Thankfully, the calming ambiance of the forest clearing helped his mind remain relaxed.
Being that Maia had more experience than him at this whole Digimon thing, he decided that it would be best to ask about her experience. "Maia, being that you were so cautious about me discovering...Uh...What is the little guy's name?" He was a bit embarrassed to say the least, as he never bothered to ask Maia in the first place. Or even if she had mentioned the little Digimon's name, he certainly could not remember it to save his life. It was probably something complicated!
He offered a sheepish grin. "I'm sorry, I should have asked when you introduced yourself." Said John. "It must have slipped my mind with all of this excitement that's happened today."

"I'm Kyaromon!" the bunny-esque monster shouted, needing to inform anything in earshot of his name. Of course, if he had waited a few more seconds, his tamer would have told John instead. "Your digivice can tell you about me, if you point it at me," he added in a know-it-all voice. Sure, of course he knew that. Because Antiqmon had told her tamer about it. When would it stop being surprising that Kyaromon actually paid attention during these times?
Going off of the sentence that John had started, before he realized the lack of knowing the monster's name, Maia filled in what she assumed was the gap. "Being cautious is wise," she pointed out, "the world doesn't take well to Digimon. Do not let regular people know about it." It was really easier said than done. "I'm... not sure why, honestly. A different tamer warned me of it. I suspect they're not necessarily legal pets. They don't seem to be quite illegal, either, so I think it's a grey area." That was the best that the girl had made of it, at least. Then again, her neighbor had proved to not be particularly good at teaching her about the essentials. "You're going to learn that they don't always look like this," she made a gesture to Kyaromon, "and some people actually turn into them, even." That one had been a particular shocker to learn about.
"Yeah! They're so cool! Sometimes, they can fly! Ooh!" Kyaromon began to ramble, "do you think your digimon will know how to fly? Do you think he'd teach me?" And, now he was off to his wishes to fly. Some days, Maia easily found the in-training to be absolutely hopeless.

Once the purple bunny rabbit Digimon conveyed the information that he wished to share, John's eyes lit up with glee and excitement. It was still going to take some time to get used to a talking creature. "Well hello, Kyaromon. It's nice to meet you!" Wanting to follow the Digimon's device, John unclasped his Digivice from his belt. It was a good thing that the device came with a belt clip! He was pretty sure that no stores would sell anything that would be compatible for it.
The human man pointed the Digivice at Kyaromon, with the Digivice's screen facing him. And in turn, the device's screen lit up. "Scanning." The device announced in an electronic male voice. "Kyaromon. In-raining level Digimon. Type: Lesser." John turned the device back toward him to behold the information on the screen. A small, pixelated Kyaromon played an animation, while information was listed underneath it.
"Well, what do you know? That's pretty nifty." His ears perked up when the little Digimon asked about flying. "Hm? Oh, I'm not sure if my Digimon will fly. But that will be rally cool! I'll tell you what. If they ever get to a form where they can fly, I'll ask if they can teach you. Okay?" John now looked to Maia and listened to her words of caution. "That would explain why you were reluctant to have Kyaromon found, huh? Do you think my Digimon would be able to get a disguise as a human?"

Kyaromon looked proud, despite still being in a scarf-burrito. Of course everyone would want to scan him to find out how cool he was! Just wait until he digivolved! Then he'd be super cool! Except... the little creature didn't even know what he was going to turn into! That would just be part of the surprise, he guessed. The awesome surprise!
"I think they sell things like that in the Digital World," which, Maia was now realizing that she had completely left out! And, here she had been upset that Kai hadn't told her about it! "Oh, yeah," she paused, with a relatively blank-expression on her face, "by the way. There's a mall in the Digital World were you can buy stuff. Your Digivice apparently will have money on it, because they don't take human currency. Think of it like a pre-paid card." Who provided the money on it was beyond her, but she certainly wasn't going to complain about having something for free. She considered it a babysitting fee, more than anything.
Was there anything else she was forgetting that was important about that? Probably. "But, I don't really advise going there unless you're Digimon is a Rookie or higher," that had been what everyone's advice to her was, at least. "When your egg hatches, it'll only be a Baby. If anything dangerous comes up, I don't think your new Digimon be able to protect you like that." Again, emphasize the dangers, Maia! Digimon are not always friendly! She didn't want to feel like it was her fault if someone died because she taught them horribly!

John listened intently as Maia would explain the details about his Digivice and the mall in what she called the Digital World. This was definitely good stuff to know. "Thanks so much for the warning." He voiced. "Is there a specific time period for how long it takes for a Digimon to reach Rookie level? Are there certain conditions that have to be met?"
This was especially important for John to discover. He wouldn't mind taking care of a baby creature. In fact, he looked forward to helping a wonderful creature grow and nurture! But it was paramount to find out how long it would take for a Digimon to reach rookie level. He surely did not want to have his life or his Digimon's life put into any danger while it was still young.
For the entirety of the conversation between John and his new friends, he hadn't been keeping much track of time. About an hour had passed, which wasn't bad at all. He had finally noticed that Maia still held onto his phone. "Um. Maia? May I please have my phone back? You've been holding onto it for quite some time, now."

"I'm not... exactly sure how long that'd take," Maia admitted. Shoot. Is this how her neighbor felt when he had to explain all of this to her? At least his Digimon were already rookies! "I've had Kyaromon about three weeks, now, and he's only Digivolved once. From Baby to In-Training." On top of that, it was all because he had the hiccups! Not even a good reasoning! "But, there aren't too many reasons they need to become Rookies around here, so I haven't encouraged it." No, in fact, she had discouraged anything that could involve making the little monster grow. At this point, if the tamer wanted, she probably could easily evolve the In-training. Not that she knew how.
Kyaromon was shuffling in his burrito-blanket, trying to scoot out of it now that he had dried sufficiently. "It's easier if you go on adventures," the monster responded, flatly. "Kai said if a tamer's in danger, it could help!" Of course he was going to tell someone that! What an awful idea! As Maia was about to protest it, she heard the comment of her still holding the other tamer's phone. Kyaromon, hearing about it too, instantly went to try to shove the item in his mouth.
Hitting the 'enter' button on the phone, the girl pulled the mobile device away from her Digimon before any harm could come to it. Turning slightly red, she let out a small laugh, "Oh, hey. I don't need this anymore, do I?" Dork. How did she forget she was holding someone else's stuff? Maybe she was just too used to walking around with a phone in her hand. Quickly, she offered the item back to its appropriate owner. "Sorry about that! I guess I forgot that I, uh, had it." Now she just felt stupid!

John couldn't help but chuckle at Maia. He gratefully accepted his phone back, and placed it in his right pocket. "Don't worry, it's okay, really." A smile spread across his face to reassure his friend that she had done nothing wrong. "Everybody makes mistakes. It's only human. There's no need to feel ashamed."
He would now reply to what Kyaromon had suggested. "Adventures, huh? That seems like a possibility that I'll consider. Although, I'm not really the kind of person to just pick fights with random Digimon." But that would raise the question. How much danger would he and his Digimon be in until his Digimon evolved into a Rookie? And surprise! More questions were now raised! Like how would he be able to bring his Digimon out in public as a Rookie and beyond?
These would have to be answered in time, and with experience. Maia obviously wouldn't know, as her Digimon was still in the in-training stage. John supposed that each Tamer's experience was wonderfully unique. "Well, thank you so much for answering all of my questions, Maia." John smiled softly now. "I should probably start heading back home. But, if you'd like, I can walk you home if you're heading back as well."

"I still don't advise adventuring for a while. Each level, the Digimon gets stronger," the girl tried to point out. "It goes Baby, In-Training, Rookie, Champion, and Ultimate, that I'm aware of. And they usually look totally different each time they change." These were important things to tell him, she felt. "Everyone I've talked to discourages adventures until Rookie." That was probably enough talk about the monsters, though. After all, she didn't want to sound like a user's guide! "But, uh, if I don't know something that you want to ask about, I can always ask my friend. He knows a lot more about this than I do." Sure, she didn't have Kai's number, but he was literally a walk across the street. And, come on, a guy who almost got eaten by a Digital Monster had to have more knowledge on the matter than she did!
Kyaromon had finally un-bundled himself and clambered his way up Maia's shirt and onto her shoulder. "Adventures are fun, though. If you go on adventures, you should invite us!" the small alien insisted. "I swear, I'm tougher than I look!" To this, he puffed out his little chest. He could defend the world! At least, in his head that was a possibility. In reality? Probably not-so-much.
Pulling out her phone to check the time, Maia shook her head, "thanks for the offer, but it's early enough that Kyaro probably should run off some more energy." Placing the device back in her pocket, she moved to scratch the Digimon's head. "If he doesn't get enough exercise, he doesn't let me sleep." The monster was good at that. Either he'd insist that she play with him, accidentally break her stuff, or try to eat anything that could fit in his mouth. At least if she could wear him down enough, he'd be out most of the night. Hopefully, that trend would fade with the next time he digivolved. "But, text me sometime and we can hang out, okay?" After all, the tamer didn't want John to think that she was just going to dismiss him without the offer to do something that didn't involve her trying to recite just about everything she knew about Digimon in as short of time as possible.
"We're gonna play more!" Kyaromon bristled, excitedly, before jumping off of Maia's shoulder and giggling. "Bye-bye, new-person!" the creature shouted, even though he had already heard John's name. 'Person' just sounded like the perfect thing to call him at that moment! With that, the small digimon began swerving between Maia's legs, and then raced around the pond, waiting for his tamer to follow. After all, his little swim hadn't tired him at all!

"Sounds like a plan, Maia." John replied to his new Tamer buddy. "And don't worry, Kyaromon. I'll make sure to invite you and Maia along on any adventures I happen to come across. You ahve my word." With that, John made a motion with his index finger by drawing an 'X' over where his heart resided in his chest. "Cross my heart. I'm sure that we would make an excellent team!"
Goodness, he could not get over how adorable the little Digimon was. He could only guess that all in-training Digimon were that cute. John was a sucker for animals, especially the little ones. "Alright. I'm going to head home now. I hope you and Kyaromon enjoy your walk." John offered a parting wave goodbye. "We'll hang out again sometime, okay?" With that, he began to walk back homeward the way he came.
The new Tamer continued to hold his white egg with red stripes as he trekked along the path he came down before. But along the way, something dawned on him. "Ah, shoot." He gritted his teeth in worry momentarily. How could he have forgotten so easily? Itsuke's "no pet" policy! "Well, what am I supposed to do now?" he asked to no one in particular since he was currently by himself. "If Itsuke catches me with this Digimon, she might end up kicking me out!" John exhaled an exasperated sigh.
"Well, I guess we'll have to cross that road when we come to it, huh buddy?." He wished that he brought along some sort of backpack to hide the egg in, but now it appeared that he had to come up with some sort of little white lie to tell Itsuke if she confronted him about it. Different ideas came to mind, but one stuck out better than the rest. "I could just tell her that I collect toys." He thought aloud.
