It was a nice and quiet afternoon, the perfect respite for a young lady who'd been thrown into the metaphorical gauntlet. Alicia yawned as she picked a fairly large tree to sit at the base of looking up at the sky through the canopy of tree tops.
"This should be a nice and quiet place, eh Sol?" She asked rhetorically.
"Indeed, I haven't noticed anyone while we were walking so this place should be clear. Please feel free to speak to me as you would speak to others normally." Sol replied with a mental nod.
"Right, right. Anyways... you mentioned a few days back that basically you were surprised at how tight my bond with my family is, right?" The Spirit User began, smiling at the memory of her brothers and parents once more. It was also rather liberating to not have to whisper when she wanted to address Sol. Out here there shouldn't be a soul around for a quite a fair distance.
"An odd topic to begin with, but yes. What about it?" Sol's tone was one that indicated curiosity and Alicia imagined that if he had his own body he would be tilting his head with the same emotion displayed.
"... Did you have a full family yourself? People you miss now that you're here now as a Spirit and not resting with them?" The question came up mainly because Alicia was worried that she'd disturbed the peace of the dead. At least, she assumed Sol had passed on if him being a spirit was any indication.
"Heh... I did. A family I loved very much. Do not worry though. I had considered the possibility that my power would be needed again. We all agreed that it was best for me to preserve my strength for later use. They will wait for me to join them when the time is deemed right." That certainly put some worries out of Alicia's mind. If this was his plan all along, who was she to question him?
"So... what made you take the path you chose? You certainly carry yourself like a fairy tale hero, a paragon of purity and justice. Surely that isn't an easy path to walk, is it?" That was a bit more relevant of a question, considering after her last fight he had questioned her on it and she had no real answer of commitment to give him.
"My reasoning? Few humans seek guidance in their lives by questioning their elders in this day and age. I'm glad you are one of the ones who do. To answer that is... more complicated then one would have you believe. At first? It was less wanting to uphold justice and merely petty revenge. I had been wronged severely by another and wished to exact a sufficient payment in blood from him. But as time marched on and I sought this fellow out I saw others who struggled under far worse conditions then I. And I met friends who helped show me that revenge wasn't the answer to life's problems. They showed me that if you were going to wield power, do not do so blindly. Find a cause you wish to champion and use what is available to you, your power, to further that cause. For me, I looked back on those who suffered and put myself in their shoes. Every day they toiled in vain, as I later learned they worked for a cruel and greedy master. That was the spark that set me down the path of justice, even if I had a few... 'hiccups' along the way."
Alicia blinked and whistled softly. That had been a bigger answer then she had been expecting. "What should I do then? I can see no cause which I could take up arms for, and be willing to live and die by the metaphorical and literal sword. Does that make me...?" She trailed off, unwilling to complete the sentence.
"It does not make you villainous in and of itself. It merely means you are a neutral party, living by your own whims. While this is not exactly bad, it's not exactly ideal either. As for what you should do? That is up to you to find out. What sparked my path may do nothing for you. That is the beauty of life. We all have our own paths to walk."
Alicia nodded and closed her eyes, humming softly as she took a break, running over what Sol had told her. Her path was just beginning, and who knows where it will lead in the end?

After having bumped into a couple of friends in the residential district, on the way to the forest, the duo was a little more upbeat than they would have been earlier. Kuu was wide awake now, nose sniffing the air and ears twitching wildly from a comfortable spot in the hood of his tamer's jacket. "So, who were those Digimon? Did you know them? Why didn't you wake me up? You know I love to meet people!" the little fox would ramble, occasionally leaning his face in by her ear to make sure that Maia was listening. Of course, it was hard not to listen when he never stopped talking.
"That was Dust and... Luna, I guess?" Maia finally responded, once she knew that they were far enough away from the houses to worry about anyone questioning two voices from one body. After all, nobody would expect a fox to talk, right? "Remember the Digimon I told you about at school? That's Dust." This seemed sufficient, as the rookie let out a, "oooooh!"
Still, now that he was bright eyed and bushy-tailed, the pipe fox was scrambling all over his tamer's shoulders and trying to find a way on top of her head. It was a fruitless endeavor, of course, as the girl would brush him off every time he started making any progress. "Should we really be back here?" This was a surprising question from the usually carefree Digimon. After all, just yesterday, they had been put under horrible circumstances of life or death.
"Well, it's probably best to make sure that portal-thing closed on both ends," Maia tried to make the entire thing sound like a noble cause, but she really didn't think another Ultimate digimon was going to run amok in the area for a while. "The main reason for crazy digi-monster coming here was for a spirit user, anyway. There aren't any today, so we should be just fine."
As if to slap that thought back into her face, Kuu lurched himself onto her shoulder, ears perked up. "Hey, I hear a person talking!" Oh no. How was it that every single time, another person would always show up? This was life's way of mocking the girl, she was sure. Reaching up, she was about to stuff the Digimon into her purse when he squirmed free, shouting a, "nope!" before bolting for the bushes. Was he trying to get her in trouble again?
Nope. She wasn't going to follow him. No more feeding into these silly chasing games that always put her in a dumb predicament. But several minutes began passing and the tamer grew progressively more uncomfortable. He... he would come back, right? What if there was still a problem with the forest? Beginning to panic, Maia decided that she couldn't wait any longer, and began hurrying through the tree filled area. This could always end badly, and she really didn't want to see if it did.
But, the girl wasn't necessarily built to run excessively, either, finally needing to stop to catch her breath. How was she supposed to find a random fox in the middle of the forest? "Oh, great. Kuu," she huffed, trying to catch her breath. Maybe she needed to start exercising or something. "Where'd you run off to n..." almost finishing her sentence, breath finally slowing, the humming hit her ears. Of course the Digimon had brought her into another one of his traps. Turning her head to the side, she opened her lips to mouth an, 'oh.'
Crap. "Oh.. hah. Hey, I-I thought I heard of another person around," she sighed, letting her legs give out from under her and falling to sit on her knees. It was a weird way to word it, which would hopefully go unnoticed, but the tamer wasn't overly fond of flat-out lying. She had heard 'of' a person talking from her Digimon, who was currently in hiding someplace, probably laughing at her! But, it was close enough that maybe she could pass it off as an assumption that she had misspoke. This day couldn't go south as fast as yesterday had... right?

The redhead kept humming for a bit even as Maia showed up, not noticing her immediately. It was only when the younger girl chose to speak that Alicia snapped to attention, yelping a bit in surprise. "AH! How much did you hear!?" Well brilliant Alicia, with that outburst there was no denying that she was talking with someone now. Glancing side to side, she sighed and resigned herself to the fact that whether she liked it or not someone else would know about her odd situation.
"Haaa... Well to be honest ever since I was given a little trinket I've never been alone. Sometimes even when I want to be. Tell me though, does something like this mean anything to you?" With that said, she pulled out her D-Scanner and showed it to Maia. Another Spirit User, she'd be able to identify almost immediately. In the same place where she was put in a life or death situation by the last such user she recently met. That certainly didn't bode well on the coincidence mark.
"Well, one can never say you aren't upfront with people." Sol mused, and Alicia heard a sound that implied he slapped the palm of his hand against his face. For being a disembodied voice, it was odd how he managed to convey such gestures and sounds. "Well, this is your call to make, I will merely assist where I am able."
"Anyways... I kinda came out here cause I thought no one would come this deep. Get a weight off my chest by chatting with my metaphorical 'passenger' so to speak if that makes any sense. What brings you out here?" Alicia continued, tilting her head and getting up, flashing a soft smile in the hopes of setting any potential worries at ease.

Hearing the yelp, Maia let out a sigh. So, she could have just gathered herself and kept going without being noticed? Well, that's just great. The question, though, threw her off. Oh, yeah. If there was talking, there had to be someone else around, right? Still, looking left and right, there was no sign of another person. Is this why Kuu was in such a hurry to find her? But, the blonde remained quiet to hear an explanation. And to continue regulating her heartbeat.
And then, the 'trinket' was pulled out, causing a hitch in the tamer's breath.
"This is awful."
"This is great!"
Both voiced their alternate opinions simultaneously, as Maia looked up into the trees to see her Kudamon's head poking out from the leaves. He had to have known something about this. The tamer made no motion to get up from her not-so comfortable spot on the ground, slowly lowering her gaze to the spirit user. Yes. Life was definitely mocking her.
The smile didn't help much, but Maia still managed to attempt to mirror it, though clearly more exasperated. Spirit user in the same spot as the last one? Didn't really feel like a safe situation. At least she didn't have to go into the 'welcome to Digimon' spiel, since it seemed that this person had already figured out the basics.
"Well," she gestured up to the pipe fox in the tree, who quickly leaped down and landed on his tamer's shoulder, "as... you may have figured out, I've seen your 'trinket' before." Maia started, slowly, looking around the area. There were no signs of any portals. This was good. "And, we may have had a bit of a situation here yesterday, that we needed to check up on." Now, as long as nobody got called a 'witch' and an Ultimate-level digimon didn't barrel through at them, all was good. There was a small pause, as if waiting for that to come true, and another breath of relief when it clearly didn't.
Kuu, on the other hand, just seemed excited at how short of a time he needed to stay hidden! "Who're you? I'm Kuu! This is Maia! Who are you?" the little fox babbled, repeating his question far more than necessary, until Maia would put a hand over his face to try to keep him quiet for a good thirty seconds.

Alicia blinked, curious as to why Maia seemed so bothered by the D-Scanner. Then she explained herself and everything was clear. "Oooh... Sorry about that, I would've tried to be a bit more tactful about things if I'd known another Spirit User caused you trouble." Hopefully said trouble wasn't the user actually attacking her. It seemed unlikely but well a couple days ago Digimon in general 'seemed unlikely.' She really couldn't rule anything out.
"Well, for what little my word is worth to you, I don't want to cause any problems" She answered back, sighing softly. Then Kuu came out of nowhere and bombarded her with rapid fire questions and statements, surprising the Steel Spirit User again. "Whoa there little one, you've got enough energy to catch the Energizer Bunny there!"
Chuckling at her own little joke, Alicia smiled at the by play between Tamer and Digimon. It kind of made her wonder what her tale would be like if Sol were a living Digimon partnered to her instead of a Spirit empowering her. Oh well. Still, Kuu's antics aside, Maia still seemed a bit on edge to her. Maybe she could make use of a convenient pun to lighten the mood?
"So, I've gotta ask, with your partner being a fox Digimon, does that make you a 'fox'y lady?" Alicia quipped, not quite able to keep a straight face through the whole line. As soon as she was done she snickered a bit. She could also here Sol groaning in the back of her mind.
"Foxy lady? You seriously went there, Alicia? I swear if I still had a body of my own I'd smack you for that pun! There had to have been a hundred other options you could've gone with!" For all of his protesting though, the Steel Spirit's own laughter was only barely restrained as the insanity of the moment got to him. Still, she had to introduce herself. Best get back on track.
"Anyways, I'm Alicia. Nice to meet the both of you! And as you guys have figured out I'm a Spirit User. Fortunately I'm not all that lonely cause I still have someone to chat with, as you guys over heard a bit earlier. The problem is he's kinda the personification of the Spirit I use to fight with so only I can hear him. It's... a bit troubling to try avoiding sounding like I'm a mad woman most days. That's actually why I came out here, I wasn't expecting anyone to show up so I thought I could talk normally to him. And then you two showed up. Still, always nice to meet new people."

"Well, in all fairness, he wasn't... quite the problem," Maia started, but didn't bother finishing the explanation. Mostly because she remembered that he kind of was the entire reason that the problem had occurred. After all, if he had just sat still for two minutes instead of calling her a witch and running off, maybe things would have been easier to work with! Guys could be so stupid. Thinking of guys, this was the first spirit user that Maia had met that wasn't male. Weird. Probably a good weird, but it didn't change the thought.
Ears still twitched rapidly, as Kuu struggled on deciding if he wanted to examine the young woman up close. For the time being, he settled on staying on his tamer's shoulder. "Nah, I'm not a bunny any more. That was my in-training!" he proudly informed. That... wasn't quite what the woman had meant, surely, but it wasn't like the Kudamon to act like he had any idea of what was going on! Pssh! Why would he know what the Energizer Bunny was? He was too young for those commercials to be airing, anyway. Did they even still use that bunny? Maia hadn't seen it on T.V. in years. Then again, it was easier to stream shows onto her computer to keep the monster hidden in her room.
Both girl and Digimon snapped out of rabbit-related thoughts when a pun was made. At first, Maia provided a blank expression, which slowly adjusted as her eyes widened, and her lips twitched. "Pff..." she snickered, trying to contain herself. Still, there was a small shake to her body. Was she trying not to laugh? Hands flew up to cover her mouth and nose, trying to conceal whatever emotion was being displayed.
"Noooo!" the pipe fox wailed, dramatically falling off of Maia's shoulder and thumping on the ground with a small puff of dirt around him. "I can't even tell if... No! I might like that one!" he groaned, flailing his body around in the dirt. There was no way a pun about him could be hated! But... Arg! He hated puns! The turmoil!
This broke his tamer, though, who began laughing far too much. All the built up stress had to be let out somehow, right? With a few deep breaths, she finally managed to compose herself. Dropping her hands back to her sides, a much more relaxed grin was revealed. "That... that was too good." Maia already thought she liked this person. Nobody who was bad could make a pun like that. No way.
Trying to collect himself, the Digimon finally rolled onto his belly to begin the process of getting out of the dirt. "You're worse than when Maia had a pun-off with Isaac," he groaned. The little Digimon began rapidly shaking himself, starting with his head and working his way to the tip of his tail, dust fluffing off of his body. Good thing he was low-maintenance for grooming! It already looked like most of the dirt was off of him! "And, he was trash."
To this, his tamer nudged him with her foot. "He is not," she hissed. "Do we have to go over the lesson about manners again?" Oh, yeah. After having clearly upset the mentioned boy, Kuu had to go through a long lecture of how to properly talk to people and not say something inappropriate. It appeared that this was a failed course.
"You said that if something's in a garbage can, it's trash," was the rookie's defense.
To that, Maia quipped, "Elliot was in the garbage too, but you're not mentioning him."
"Elliot's too cool to be trash," Kuu huffed, shaking himself off again to make sure all the dirt was actually off.
Realizing that they had gotten sidetracked, Maia turned back to Alicia. "I'm sorry," her smile had faded slightly, and the tone was actually quite apologetic. She hadn't meant to ignore the woman! "It's nice to meet you, too!" At least, that fox pun was still pretty terrific. "Trust me, I, uh, know the feeling of talking to yourself. Kuu hasn't fully learned that he's not supposed to speak in public yet." Instead, it either looked like Maia was speaking in two different voices, or she'd spontaneously tell the air to shut up. Neither looked particularly good. "We didn't mean to interrupt your... conversation, though. It was kind of rude of me, now that I understand what was going on."

"It appears this one is... a bit of a scatter brain." Sol commented as he and Alicia watched Kuu's continued antics. From completely misunderstanding what Alicia had meant to flailing about at the pun, he certainly wasn't one to sit still. She even had to giggle a bit at the poor Kudamon's wailing. Still, given her Spirit's assessment of Kuu, she decided to give up on explaining things to him while she still had hair to brush.
"Glad I managed to break the ice with that. Felt just a little bit tense until then." Alicia noted softly, smiling. And then the two dropped a name she was fairly familiar with. After all, she'd just worked with Isaac and Elliot not the day before to acquire Steeldramon. And Kuu had mentioned him being trash. Elliot had mentioned his brother met his girlfriend in the trash can.
"This is too much of a coincidence. I think they're talking about the same Isaac we know." Sol agreed with Alicia's thought process, and she could've sworn he was smirking too. Good, they were in sync on this. Smiling deviously, she leaned in and chuckled.
"Oh ho...? I happen to know Isaac as well, he and his brother helped me out of a real bind yesterday. So, you're the lucky lady that Elliot had mentioned?" The Texan Spirit User mused openly, still grinning. She tilted her head as she looked more closely at Maia, nodding to herself. "Mhmm, I can see it, you two really would make such a cute pair." Another nod followed the statement as Alicia turned to the side a bit grinning.
"You're almost having too much fun with this. Then again this is quality entertainment for someone who decided it was a brilliant idea to cage himself up like this so please, carry on." It seemed the poor tamer wouldn't be getting any unseen assistance from the Spirit of Steel either, if anything he was egging Alicia on! But no, she'd leave the poor girl alone now.
"Anyways, don't worry, you actually hadn't interrupted anything. I was taking a little break while considering other topics I wanted to go on about. So I guess you had perfect timing in that scenario."

Scatter brained may be one way to put it. Or completely devious! Still, Kuu pulled off whatever he was far too well for anyone to question it! The little digimon was now sniffing the ground, his paws, and working his way over to try to smell Alicia's shoes! Oooh, was that a good idea? Probably not. After all, with his smelling, he probably didn't really need to be that close! But, it gave him an excuse to get a closer look at the redhead!
Alicia seemed to be pretty observant! Not that Maia had been trying to conceal her discomfort, but considering yesterday's events, it was awfully hard to not be tense when all she could remember was a giant spider demon trying to kill or maim everyone all because of a ridiculous spirit user not being able to handle the fact that a girl was there. Maybe there was more to it than that, but Maia didn't want to overthink the situation. In fact, she really didn't want to think of it at all.
Well, it was pretty easy to forget, when suddenly she was being called a 'lucky lady'! Amber eyes grew wide and lips parted, just to stare. Who was this lady? And, then the blush kicked in. Wha--? You're... you're kidding," she stuttered, lifting hands up only to bury her face in them. "What did Elliot tell you?" This was mostly a rhetorical question, but it spilled out anyway. They... they would? Would they make a cute pair? With Alicia grinning, Maia's only response was to turn progressively more red, eyes glancing out of her palms to stare at the young woman's face, before looking everywhere else. "It-It's not. We're not like that!"
Or, were they? What? Wait. No. Where did that thought come from?!
Kuu had to get in on this teasing, leaning toward the spirit user, "Isaac promised to protect her and everything!" This was too great! There was another person that knew of the topic! Not much of a secret now, huh? "He's going to be her hero, you know." Oh, the little Digimon was so lucky that he was out of reach right now!
Considering the turn of events, it certainly was a good thing that they hadn't been interrupting anything! Otherwise, this could make for a really embarrassing moment! Or, at least, moreso. At this rate, Maia couldn't even think of anything to change the subject to!

Alicia started to giggle openly as Maia blushed more and more. The young tamer was just so adorable trying to sort out what was going on all of a sudden. The poor girl's stammering was something else too. She could even hear Sol chuckling in her head.
"Oh, he only tossed the metaphorical brick at the glass house by telling me Isaac met you from inside a trash can." Not an exact quote, that. The actual thing was more Elliot implying that Maia herself was in said can, though Alicia was confident in suspecting it was the other way around. "No subtlety what so ever, just out and said it like it is. Might want to verbally smack him for that."
Straightening up and clearing her throat, she forced herself to settle back into a more neutral expression to imply she wanted to be taken seriously for that. "And if I may butt in and put my two cents? Go for it, just be aware that he's, well, a guy and a brother at that. I have two brothers of my own and for all their brilliant moments they can be real knuckleheads. So be patient with him. He's bound to muck something up and make you upset. If you really care about him though, have the strength of heart to move past that once it's all said and done."
She smirked again, sighing softly. "And really, that blush alone says much about what you think about him. Maybe it'll work out, maybe it won't. You won't know unless you take that leap of faith. Better to leap and know then to look over the edge and wonder 'what if' in my opinion."
She chuckled a bit at Kuu's own part in the teasing as well, before looking down at the little pipe fox. "Here, up ya go!" She suddenly quipped, leaning down and scooping the Kudamon up. Soon enough she set him on her shoulder, smiling at Kuu.
What she forgot about was the shoulder she put him on gave him the perfect opportunity to notice that huge scar on her face. And she was surprised Maia didn't seem to notice it yet either.

Ah, why couldn't she have just poker-faced this? Well, it was too late now. Maia used to be so good at providing blank expressions! Where did they go? It's like all other options aside from 'blush profusely' was erased from her mind. Clearly, that was the highlighted option and everything. Why would Elliot tell people this stuff? Especially people that Maia hadn't even met yet! ...Weird coincidence how she ended up meeting the same person, though.
"They... they were pretending to be a freakin' possum or a cat or something in a trash can, okay? I didn't know there were actually people in there," she tried to explain, still all sorts of red, and speaking rapidly. "Totally going to smack him," she agreed, trying to find a way to cool down her face. Nope, nothing. Ah! She so wanted to find Elliot right this second! Then again, Kuu was running a good second place with his teasing, so maybe she'd just take it out on him.
Hearing the clearing of throats, the girl looked back up. Was she seriously getting dating advice? Oh, jeez. This was so embarrassing. "I... I don't have any brothers, so," but whatever the tamer was going to ask about it being relevant vanished with the knucklehead comment, nodding, "o-oh. That... makes sense." It really did. Isaac sure could come off as a knucklehead, alright. The heat was finally fading from her face, although not entirely, while she thought about what was being said. What if she screwed anything up? "I prefer to look before I leap, to be honest," she murmured, touching two fingers to her cheek. When she pulled them away, a soft, white imprint would be left briefly, before the blush covered it again.
"I, ah, don't really know if he feels that way, though," she shrugged, trying to return to her regular composure. Was she even really sure how she felt about the other teen? Maia couldn't honestly say she was positive. Did she know him well enough to take a step like that? How long was a decent time? For a seventeen year old girl, she sure didn't know a lot about relationships. They were always just so complicated!
The advice she was given wouldn't fade from her memory for quite some time, though.
Being lifted up was a bit surprising to the Rookie, who wasn't entirely used to anyone except for Maia picking him up. But, this was more than welcome! Especially since it gave him such a great view compared to the ground. "I changed my mind," he informed, determined. "You're awesome." And with that, he turned to look at Alicia's face, only for his eyes to turn into giant disks of excitement. "Oohhhh my goshhh," the tip of the fox's tail began twitching rapidly, as he lifted himself up to get a better look at her face. "That is such a cool scar."
Of course, Maia had noticed the scar, but hadn't wanted to point anything out. This was the 'rude' thing that she had been trying to make her Digimon understand. "Kuu," this tone was a warning, as the blush had faded from her cheeks and she was trying to sound more stern.
Kuu ignored his tamer, per usual, moving his head at various angles. "How did you get it? Did you fight a bad guy? Did you win?"
Another, increasingly stern, "Kuu," could be heard from the tamer.
Nope, still ignored. "All tough people have scars. I think they're so cool! Did it hurt?" Oh no. Nobody was going to get him to stop asking about it without answers. Thank the heavens that she didn't have wings, too.

"If Kuu's antics are an act, I applaud his skill. I wasn't aware that someone could be this eccentric." Sol quipped, mentally nodding to himself and sighing. "By the way, what prompted the advice you gave? If you don't mind me asking?"
"Felt like the right thing to do..." Alicia whispered in response. It really did. She was serious when she said they looked like a cute pair, and she secretly hoped they'd take that leap with one another. Who would fault her for trying to nudge Maia in that direction? Besides, it's not like the advice couldn't apply to all dating as a whole.
She took the time to listen to Maia's concerns and opinions on the the whole matter, nodding in response. "Fair enough. I can't fault you for being nervous and wanting to be cautious. Just don't be so cautious you second guess yourself into never trying. If how he reacted when Elliot broke the news to me was any indication, he's at least interested in the possibility." There, for real this time she was done with this advice thing. Maybe she should take a page from Maia's book as well and not jump at every little thing that sounds like a good idea?
She'd have to consider that one, she liked her current approach to things after all. Unfortunately that approach lead to Kuu going into a fan... foxing? 'Fanfoxing' was now a thing in her mind as far as Kuu was concerned. The little Kudamon went into a fanfoxing fit once he noticed the scar running on her face. And while Maia was trying to get the little mon to shape up his act, Alicia felt like indulging the Rookie's questioning. After stressing Maia's point at least.
"Kuu, your friend's getting angry. It's kind of rude to suddenly go poking about such a sensitive subject." Alicia began, before smiling and petting the pipe fox's head. "However, I'm in a bit of a mood to recount what happened that night. I must stress though, most people would've shouted at you or worse, actually smacked you for this. You don't want to appear like the bad guy next time, do you? Anyways."
"This is odd, even for you. I won't stop you from going on though, I wonder how you recall it." Sol quipped right as she started. For the sake of beginning the mini tale, Alicia didn't answer him. Instead, she cleared her throat again, mentally looking back to the night that was forever seared into her memory.
"It was very late in the evening, I was the only one left at the shop as it was my job to close up that night. Everything was so quiet, save for me packing tools and parts away. I never heard the evil man coming up behind me. To this day I can only guess at what he was after, but his plan was likely to take everything of value in the shop once he'd dealt with me." She took a breath to further settle in, almost as if she was reliving the night as she talked about it. But the smile never left her face, and she was choosing to do this of her own free will, so she didn't let anything stop her.
"My back was turned, so he grabbed me and pulled out a huge knife and tried to cut my throat with it. I panicked, admittedly, as I'd never been in a fight before, let alone one for my life, and struggled as hard as I could. It was enough, and instead of the throat, his knife cut into my face along this line." Another break followed that, as she almost subconsciously traced the scar with a finger, sighing softly.
"It hurt, more then anything I'd felt in my short time fighting as a Spirit User, but I was able to throw him off of me. Still running on instinct alone, I picked up a nearby tool and whipped around, swinging it as hard as I could. One solid hit and he was down, out like a light bulb just got switched off. That gave me the time I needed to call the police, the good guys who's job it is to come out and punish those evil humans as soon as they know trouble is being cause. It was over in a few blinks of the eye, but back then it felt like it dragged on forever. And now, I have this scar to always remind myself that I had to fight for my life even before being chosen as a Spirit User."
The redhead leaned back and closed her eyes, turning her gaze skyward. "I trust that satisfies your curiosity? Still, be careful. Not all of us are nice, and you don't want to attract bad guys to come and hurt you or Maia, right? Which means try not to be too much of a 'fanfox' around them."
Her newest pun uttered, she smirked and looked at Maia, snickering. "Get it?" she asked the tamer.

The advice provided about Isaac was definitely something Maia wasn't going to dismiss quickly. Maybe, she'd need to find a way to bring that up in conversation with him fairly soon. It was all a weird concept, though! Especially considering he was just some tourist that she had stumbled upon. But, maybe that's how things like that worked? The blonde was going to have to trust someone's opinion on the subject that wasn't her own. Alicia seemed like a reliable enough source for that.
"Sensitive?" the white and purple fox tilted his head, trying to slow down his questions. Oops. Did he make someone mad again? "I didn't know scars were sensitive subjects. I thought they were cool," he pointed out, not sounding like he was even a tiny bit apologetic. Instead, he sounded curious as ever. "I'm not a bad guy," was another puffed response, but he went quiet with the opportunity to hear a story.
With the smile on the redhead's face, Maia felt no need to tell her that the story wasn't necessary just for the sake of a nosy Digimon. Instead, she shifted to make herself more comfortable. Heck, to better imagine, she even shut her eyes. After all, the details were well enough spoken that it was pretty easy to imagine everything. Kuu, instead, remained wide eyed and excited throughout the entire story.
"That's amazing!" he finally chirped. "You're like a real hero! And tough! You're super awesome! I want to be tough and stuff, too! Like you!" The Digimon was more than thrilled with the answer he had received! But, he wasn't entirely sure how he'd attract bad guys! "Don't worry about keeping Maia safe! I protected her just ye-" and then, the pun dropped.
Maia's eyes opened at this point, as another snicker could be heard escaping her lips.
Instantly, there was more flailing as Kuu rolled off of Alicia's shoulder, dramatic as ever. "Why do you do this to me?" he wailed, again trying to establish his love-hate relationship with these puns. "How can I hate fox puns? This is the worst!"
The tamer's mouth was twitching into another smile, as she looked between the fox on the ground and the woman that was full of fantastic puns. "You're too good at these," she managed out with a few giggles, "I'm jealous of your puntastic terms." Still, it wasn't a bad kind of jealousy. It just made Maia want to work on upping her own pun game! If only she could think of any in this situation!

Alicia giggled more as the poor Kudamon was subjected to the agony of a pun he both likes and hates at the same time. It really was amusing to watch the poor guy squirm so much when he so much as hears theme.
"The right scar certainly can be cool, but it always came from a hard story that people usually don't like bringing up. I've reached a kind of peace with the tale that got me mine though, which is why I'm okay with talking about it." Alicia noted as she looked over to Maia. Given the giggling and smile she had, Alicia could tell Maia meant the 'I want to get better at this' kind of jealousy. Uh oh, poor Kuu. Maybe she should sneak off with some scrap metal that would be thrown out anyways and make a "Poor Kuu" sign to pull out? That would probably draw a fair number of looks though, and where would she keep such a thing?
"Oh boy, I suppose I'll need to keep myself sharp. Wouldn't want to get rusty if someone's going to be hot on my tail." She decided not to stress the 'rust' part as Maia didn't know her Sprite form, Rustdramon. Pity, she was sure the younger tamer would be laughing like crazy if she knew.
"Aaaagh, really Alicia? That one was just bad." Sol, on the other hand, knew exactly what the pun was about. She could hear him banging his head on something or other, but didn't know what. "and I don't even get Kuu flailing over-dramatically to take the sting out of that edge."
"Anyways, wanna swap numbers so we can keep in touch?" Alicia asked, bringing out her phone. "And in case one of us needs help or something comes up, I'd like to have options for being able to contact someone. Granted, I do work at a mechanic's shop so I might be busy vixen things. Still, I'll come-" she suddenly cut herself off. Why? Did she notice something? Yes.
It just hit her then what she'd said.
"Aaah! I've started with the puns and now I can't even stop!" the red head yelped, face palming with her free hand and groaning. "I never asked for this! I just wanted to be a chef when I came to Japan!" Alicia continued, sighing heavily.
"I'm sorry, kid. It's too late now. The infection has become incurable. Your stuck with the puns for the rest of your life now." The spirit joked, drawing a groan from Alicia. "You just shut up in there." she muttered, knocking two knuckles against her own skull.
She wasn't quite sure if she could handle saying puns every few sentences or so. But it's not like its a thing she couldn't stop, right?

Ah, yes. Kuu was likely going to be subjected to so many horrible puns throughout his life with his tamer! Chances were, she was going to test every single one on the little fox, just to see how badly they burnt him! Maybe he made a bad choice in a tamer! Here, he thought he was going to be the annoying one in life! It didn't seem this would always be the case!
"I guess," the Digimon mumbled, still rolling on the ground. He was still trying to shake the puns out of his ears!
The pun on rust when unnoticed, but Maia still found herself smiling at it. Maybe, she'd have to share whatever awful puns she found with Alicia, too. At least someone might appreciate them. Or get tired of them. Who knew! Regardless, it was something that kept the mood light. This was something well needed after yesterday! And, on top of that, someone else was trying to help her teach Kudamon some manners. This was a load off of her work for the day! Maybe, he'd actually listen to someone else's advice about these things.
Pulling out her phone, Maia nodded, "sure!" Then, the woman continued talking and... wait. The girl bit her lip, a soft snicker falling from her mouth. Did she seriously just say 'vixen things'? Oh yes. Yes she did. The best part was that Alicia hadn't even realized she was doing it!
Having just recovered from his last pun-flail, the Digimon was trying to shake dirt out of his ears when this new pun came to life. Ears flattened, as the little Digimon flopped onto his side and began flailing around similar to a fish this time. "You're doing it on purpose!" he whined. Soon, he was trying to pull the cartridge that he carried onto his head, as if it would hide him from the horrible puns. This was completely useless, of course, just giving him essentially a hat, but somehow it made him feel better about the situation. If he was trying to escape, why not just crawl inside?
At this point, Maia wasn't sure if she was laughing about the pun or Alicia's distress at unintentionally making the pun. Still, her sides hurt with all the laughing that was happening today! It was kind of great. Trying to compose herself, she continued to snicker a little under her breath. Still, she pulled up the 'add a contact' screen on her phone, before holding it out for Alicia to put in her information.
But, something stuck out in her mind from all of this. Alicia was a mechanic, but didn't want that to be her career? "I hope you don't mind me asking, but why are you working at a mechanic place if you want to be a chef?"

Sighing at her pun-fection, Alicia sighed to herself and shook her head. Taking the moment to enter her information and give Maia the chance to do the same for her phone, she smiled and looked over at the poor Kudamon. Fortunately, she didn't have any more puns for the moment as far as she could tell so she could let the fox Digimon rest. There wasn't all that much left to do it seemed.
At least until the curious question came out from Maia. She figured she was gonna have to answer that one from someone eventually.
"Oh, that one's a fair bit simpler to answer. You see when I came here I didn't really have a back up plan if, say, I wound up not getting into a culinary school shortly after arriving. That wasn't to say I expected the first one to go so well right away. I figured a few would get dismissed and kept trying elsewhere. But then the rejections kept mounting up and my little cushion to settle in with kept dwindling, I realized I was in serious trouble and had to make ends meet somehow. That shop was the first place to take me on and I've been working there since, building up my bank account to try again."
She chuckled a bit to herself, sighing and looking up. "Sheesh, I must have looked so pathetic back then, looking around so desperately for something to keep my head above water. Ah well, I managed to make do and now here I am." Alicia shrugged her shoulders after that, smiling. "Such is the life of a young adult that went into something without a plan to start with."
