"I'm supposed to live by myself?!" Amity cried out in frustration. "I thought you were supposed to be my guide! Doesn't that mean that you should be, you know, at the ready for anything that happens?! What if someone comes and I can't speak their language? Oh wait, I CAN'T, can I?!"
"P-please understand," Ren replied, hands up in her own defense, "I may be your guide but I have my own home to get too as well, and unfortunately my father won't let me live off his property yet."
"But isn't it kind of irresponsible for the school to leave me like this?!" Amity continued her frustration.
"Please relax," Ren answered, trying her best to use a calm and soothing voice, "We've come up with a solution. You have a phone number, right? Let's exchange numbers. That way, if ever you need me, I'm just a phone call away."
Amity could not resist trying to push the limits of this.
"What if I call you in the middle of the night?"
"I'll be at the ready," Ren replied immediately.
"What if I'm out of money and desperate enough to pester you for food?"
"I'll be at the ready," Ren replied immediately.
"What if-"
"I'll be at the ready," Ren replied, cutting her off. "Day or night, rain or shine, call me when you need me and I will do all I can to help. I know it's not preferable, but this is the best I can do to take responsibility."
In the end, Amity backed off. As much as she wanted too, she couldn't stay angry.
"I'm glad you understand," Ren stated through a sigh of relief. "Anyway, I should get going. Oh, but let me give you my number first!"
With a brief exchange of numbers, Ren said her goodbyes and left for home. This left Amity by her lonesome. At least she sort of packed light.
"Well... I guess I could just sit it out here... or I could explore this place. Maybe I'll run into someone. It's not lights out yet after all. Plus I should probably see about getting a school uniform... wait, does this school do the uniform thing?" With a shrug, she left her room and started to explore. Maybe, by chance, she'll run into other students as she explored the building? At least it was worth trying to get acquainted with people.
