The Story so far:
A chance encounter on the road between Terminus City and the Western Area had a delinquent Impmon come across an Elecmon courier. Their conversation took a turn when one of Impmon's enemies caught up to him, seeking just but misguided retribution. It was when Elecmon risked injury to help him fight that Impmon came to respect another digimon for the first time in his life, and the two have been together as friends ever since.
However, a few days of good deeds can't make up for a lifetime of breaking the rules. So when Elecmon and Impmon head to the Harvest Festival on the Network Plains (before its destruction), Elecmon will have to teach his friend how to behave in a civilized setting.
This MPC takes place in their past life.
Impmon scowled as he entered the crowded fairgrounds around one of the farms on the Network Plains. He didn't want to be here, he hated being around so many others. He was too small to see very far ahead, the noise was irritating his ears, and all he could smell was dirt and wet grass. His tail flicked angrily as he was forced to stop so some chump pushing a trolley full of jelly preserve went past.
"Yeah... sorry about this, Impy" said Elecmon, using the nickname he had come up with for him. Impmon didn't mind it, just as long as he could call him "Leky" or "Bunny-boy" in return (or things like 'Featherbutt' if he was being annoying). "You're not hungry are you?"
"Nah, I think I lost my appetite" Impmon answered, scowling. "I mean why the heck are so many digimon gettin' so excited over a bunch of fruit and vegetables? It's a load of crap!"
"Well... I guess they just need new techniques of how to grow enough food" Elecmon suggested, shrugging. "The farms in the plains have to provide enough food for the City after all, at least that's what I heard...".
Elecmon thought of something that might interest him though. "We could go to the meat area if you want" he said, patting his back. "I know you like meat eh, pal? I saw you dig into that steak that night when we finished up the Artifact run"
"Hmm... you have my attention" Impmon said, although he didn't have his hopes up that this lousy festival would be any good. The only way it would be fun for him would be if he could have a meaty meal as good as the one he had back then. Furthermore he hoped that it wouldn't cost too much. So far as he could tell from living a life within the law, good things cost money, and they didn't have much of it. Which blew big time.
"Oh come on!" Impmon snapped with frustration as he saw how big the line was to the meat stalls.
"Oh... sorry about that" said Elecmon, putting a paw to his mouth with regret.
"Why the hell are so many people coming here to shop anyway?" Impmon asked, folding his arms crossly. "That's what you goody-two-shoes digimon do anyway, go into a shop to buy your food rather than nabbin' it from losers. Can't these pests go to them?"
"Well... the food's meant to be cheaper here" Elecmon said. "Everyone wants to save money, so they come to the festival to find bargains, and also come up with ways to make their own farms make more money"
"What a crock of crap" Impmon muttered. "Well, it's clear that the traffic in this place means we ain't gonna find any bargains, so what's your next big idea to make this a fun day out, bunny boy?"
"Well... we could check out the games" Elecmon said, suddenly brightly. Yes! Games! That ought to hold Impmon's attention.
"Oh yeah...?" he asked, looking somewhat interested. Elecmon led him to the back area of the festival. It was full of rides and county fair games. A merry-go-round with a bunch of plastic Unimons that some baby digimon were riding. A skill game stall where a Koemon was hurling some darts up at a wall with some cards on the back. An event where a group of digimon seemed to be paying money to guess the weight of an Oinkmon.
"Hey that one looks like fun" said Impmon, pointing to one of the skill game stalls. Elecmon looked and saw it was the Crossbow Shooting Game.
"Of course he goes for the one with the weapons..." he thought, but followed him, glad to see he had a little bit of excitement. They stood in front of the counter.
"So kids, do you want a turn?" the Sagittarimon in charge of the stall asked.
"Yep sure do" Impmon said, holding out his hands expectantly for the crossbow. But Elecmon had to pay the fee before Sagittarimon would give it to him.
"Okay, Impy, you've gotta try and hit the targets with the three bolts you've got there" Elecmon explained.
"Leky, I'm a freakin' Imp, I know how to use a Crossbow" said Impmon, loading the weapon and raising it at eye level.
He had just fired his second bolt before Elecmon figured out why he said that. "Oh... Game of Thrones reference..." he muttered.
It wasn't a bad shot actually, Impmon had hit enough points to win him a baseball cap. He put it on, grumbled about how his ears were too big for it, then decided to give it to his friend.
"There, ya see, I can be generous too ya know" he said, grinning. Elecmon's ears were pressed down behind his head, but it was otherwise comfortable.
"Heh, thanks" he said. They proceeded to the nest Skill Game.
"So what's this?" Impmon asked, seeing a line of bottles at the back of the stall, along with a series of balls at the front.
"Pretty much the same thing, throw the balls and try to hit the bottles" Elecmon said. He paid for some balls for the both of them, but they missed all of them.
"Ah, so sorry, bad luck" said the cheerful looking Gawappamon stall owner.
"I ain't finished yet!" said Impmon, conjuring a fireball in his hand.
"Impy No!" Elecmon cried, pushing him away before he did damage. Impmon scowled but otherwise didn't retaliate. Next, Elecmon brought him some candy floss, which he thought was nice. He then convinced him to ride the ferris wheel. It wasn't a big one, but somehow, for the two of them, sitting together on a slowly turning wheel, going up and down as they ate their sweets... it was kind of sweet.
"So... how are you holding up so far, Impy?" Elecmon asked him as they rose high enough above the noise to be able to have a quiet conversation. "I mean... I know you don't enjoy having to follow the rules all the time..."
"Eh, it's okay I guess" Impmon said, shrugging. "Not as fun as breakin' them, but, at least I don't get chased away and punished"
"I see" Elecmon said, nodding with understanding. "And... do you like hanging out with me?"
"Huh? What sort of a question is that?" Impmon asked, looking at him. "Of course I do, if I didn't, I woulda ditched you a long time ago"
"Heh, that's true, I suppose" Elecmon said, smiling as he looked down, his feet dangling over the edge of the seat.
"Believe me, Leky... I was headin' for a bad place before I met you" Impmon said, lowering his candy floss. "But you've helped me get away from that. You're nice to me... so nice that you come off a bit like a dork actually, but I like ya for it. And you're strong too. You're someone that I can both be friends with and respect"
"Thanks, Impy..." Elecmon said, honestly quite shocked to hear those words. "That's really nice of you to say"
"Yeah must be all this sugar in my mouth" Impmon said, resuming eating his candy floss. Elecmon chuckled. Soon enough, their feet were back on the ground. As the sun began to set, the crowds thinned out somewhat. For this, both of them were glad.
The rest of the day at the Harvest Festival was great for the both of them. And at nightfall, they watched the fireworks display from their inn window.
With another Courier job tomorrow, they tucked into bed early, looking forward to see what was next for them.
