So, the full extent of everyone's names was thusly and permanently revealed to Coolmon! The boofer was Kyo. Cute name. And Yuu was Yuu. Cool. Kind of like her. What's really nice too was Terminus showing up in the distance. Wow. How far were they? How fast were they going?
...Fast enough, probably. Unica's death grip had not loosened in the slightest. "It looks really pretty, doesn't it? But...it's the big city. Big Cherrymon always said to watch out in the city..." Coolmon noted with a nod of her head. She agreed with the rules set out by Kyo.
"I'll stick with you when we get in the city, trust me. But hopefully we don't end up separated."
Otherwise, Coolmon just got comfy and enjoyed the ride. It was a little bit relaxing, especially for her. She even yawned a bit!

They were nervous, that much being quite obvious. Even if Yuu wasn't the most perceptive person around, a cared kid was really hard to miss. So, taking a deep breath, she patted the blonde's head, hopefully in a calming gesture as they arrived at the city. It would probably result in... a pretty strange sight, at least to the newcomer.
Terminus was like any other megalopolis; huge, bustling, noisy and crowded. But there was a difference with most other human cities; the majority of its inhabitants were digimons from all places and walks of life; either an amazing sight or... a terrifying one. As Kyo stopped and lowered down in order for her occupants to descend, just like before. Once again, she devolved back to her rookie form, leaving the group to stare at the city's insides. "Well, we're here. We just gotta reach the train station and you'll be back at home." A gentle smile adorned Kyo's face as she talked to Unica. Just a little more...
A hand was extended in Unica's direction. If anything, maybe that would help her feel better? Being alone in a strange city full of strange beings was bound to be slightly unnerving, at the very least.
Once the preparations were complete, the duo would begin to walk towards the train station's general direction. Neither Kyo nor Yuu knew how in a hurry they were, but they figured the kid wanted to get home as soon as possible.

After arriving inside the city walls, the three passengers were forced to get off of Kyo so that she could regress to her small cat-dog form. Coolmon made some comment about a cherry telling her to be careful in the city. Although Unica wasn't sure if the rabbit was trying to make a joke or not, the idea of a cherry speaking to a pink bunny was funny and she giggled quietly, though her smile quickly disappeared again as she saw a large skeletal elephant with a golden trunk stride by them without a single word. A red pulsating sphere could be seen in his chest, just behind his rib cage, which caused a cold sweat to drip down Unica's spine and make her shutter. As if noticing the young girl's anxiety, Yuu held out her hand. Unica didn't fight it. With eyes still locked on the flesh-less animal, she grabbed Yuu's hand tightly, squeezing it for comfort and courage.
However, holding Coolmon with only one arm proved difficult to do, so she was left with two options: Let go of the Digimon but continue holding onto Yuu for protection and comfort or let go of Yuu in order to continue holding Coolmon but risk getting lost. Fear of the unknown won out and Unica let go of the pink rabbit. She wasn't about to let Coolmon get away so easily, though. As soon as she unlocked her arm from around the small Digimon's body, she clasped her free right hand around Coolmon's left paw. With Kyo leading the way, Unica figured nothing bad could happen. They'd go to the train station with Yuu on her left and Coolmon on her right and she'd be home before she could even count to ten.
"One," Unica said aloud, though her voice came out quiet and nervous. It didn't help that the city was bustling with life and she'd have to speak up in order to be heard. It didn't matter. By the time they cut across one intersection, Unica had already said, "Two." Things were looking good. Hands were still clasped, Kyo was still in sight, and the monsters that wandered around didn't appear to have any ill-wills toward them. "Three," Unica whimpered, suddenly spotting a scary puppet creature with wide green eyes, a wicked smile spread over his purple face, and two large hands which twitched like a glitched computer program. Unica's legs froze as she locked eyes with the monster, but the gentle tug of Yuu and Coolmon continuing to walk gave her enough strength to keep going. Her head turned as she kept her eyes on the creature while walking, curiosity and fear driving her. When he waved at her - his smile growing even more twisted as he did - Unica tore her eyes from him and picked up the pace. "Four," she croaked once she believed they were far enough away.
As the group of four passed by a large arena, a trilling voice could be heard. The voice sounded like it belonged to a middle-aged woman, though slightly higher-pitched than the average 20 to 30 year old female. Unica certainly wouldn't have noticed this voice if the individual it belonged to didn't run indirectly into her. Actually, that's not entirely accurate. The speaker flew directly into Unica. In a blur, Unica was on her back and the hat Yuu had given her went flying a few feet away. On the ground beside her laid a pink bird. For a brief second, Unica wondered if the rabbit had turned into a bird, but that thought didn't linger for long as the creature sat up and spoke. "Watch it, jerk!" the Biyomon snapped as she ruffled her feathers.
"Oh," Unica responded softly, a bit shaken from the collision and unsure what else to say. As she sat up, the young girl glanced around for her companions in order to see if they had wandered off without her or if they had stopped upon realizing that Unica had been tackled to the ground.
"'Oh?' Is that seriously all you've gotta say?" the Biyomon went on, her shimmering blue eyes narrowing into frustrated slits. "Humans! Humans! Argh!" she ranted, taking a few steps toward Unica and flapping her wings aggressively. On the inside of her wings, purple markings in the shape of eyes could be made out. As she flapped them, it gave off the illusion that a large monster was growing nearer and nearer.
Unica, being no older than seven, began reacting as any other young child who had never been confronted with such a terrifying sight would. She began crying rather hysterically. It sounded like she was trying to say something through her sobs, but the only words that could be made out were, "Birdie," "Mean," and "Stop." Unbeknownst to her, a small device in the pack on her back began glowing and whining as the two destined partner finally met.

Well. Terminus had some very flavorful people within it, as a SkullMammothmon passed them. Coolmon noted how the haircut on the skeleton was...uh.
Too spooky. For regulations. Also it made Unica anxious. "Unica...It's okay. You're safe with us." She reassured. The Cutemon was trying her hardest. She really was. Then she started to count along with the girl. Maybe that'd help? Who knows. She was pretty sure that Keramon waved at them, too. If that was a Keramon, at least.
She could never tell with virus types. They all looked the same.
It's also worth noting that when Unica let go of her, Coolmon didn't resist her hand being grabbed. Heck, she grabbed Unica's too! Then a pink bird (or, rather, a Biyomon) showed up and slammed right into Unica! OH NO! Coolmon's first reaction was to run over to Unica and check to see if she was okay, maybe apply her healing ability, but the Biyomon got up and started an aggressive rant.
Like that, the Cutemon had been suppressed for a time. Coolmon huffed and fixed her scarf and her headphones. "Hey, lay off! She's just trying to get home, you big pink mean bird!"
...It may be wise to intervene before Coolmon got in a fight with the Biyomon.

Big cities could be scary.
Unica was utterly terrified, that much was obvious; Yuu made sure to try and assure the girl about everything being okay, and it had worked to some degree, but... it wasn't nearly as enough. It was understandable, being afraid of the number of potentially creepy creatures that inhabited this place.
"Yeah, it's okay!" Kyo added to Coolmon's encouraging words. "Don't worry! We won't let anything bad happen to you; you can count on us!" And she meant every word; anybody messing with Kyo's friends would be in for bad times.
Or with her, for that matter. Like a certain somebody who was thinking ill of virus types... but it wasn't like she could read minds, though! What she could notice, however, was the Biyomon barging in and colliding directly with the kid, making Yuu's hat fly and her to fall down to the floor, breaking the blonde's grip on Unica's hand break in the process.
Of course, Yuu's first gesture was to run towards where she fell and try to lift her up if necessary or if the bird proved to be too menacing. Who could say she could be this motherly.
The Plotmon wasn't as friendly, however. She quickly stood between Unica and the Biyomon, a pretty intimidating glare on her face. "Scram, pinky." For somebody who had been outright jovial moments before, this was almost a full turn on her disposition. "Leave the human alone. Or else."
It took her some time, but Yuu eventually began to notice the faint sound coming from Unica's backpack. Could this mean...?

Almost immediately after Unica began crying, all three of her new friends were by her side. Coolmon, who was the fastest to respond to the incident, appeared as though she was going to tend to Unica's minor scrapes caused the fall, but quickly got distracted when the stranger started closing in. As if driven by protective instincts, the Cutemon turned her attention to the pink bird in front of her, going so far as to call her "a big pink mean bird." As uncreative as the insult was, it proved enough to stop the Digimon in her tracks. At that time, Yuu appeared at Unica's side and Kyo jumped in front of the stranger Digimon, baring her teeth and glaring intensely at the attacker.
The Biyomon - who had just been dismissed from the nearby coliseum due to the fact that there weren't any tournaments occurring at the time - was looking for a fight. She was pumped and raring to go. It was by pure happenstance that she flew directly into her partner. Upon noticing the Plotmon and Cutemon standing between herself and the two humans, the Biyomon fluffed her feathers and flapped her wings one final time in defiance. "Get outta my way, babies," the Biyomon demanded as she kept her wings spread, feathers still ruffled.
As soon as the words "Leave the human alone or else" escaped from Kyo's lips, a smug expression crossed over the Biyomon's face. With squinted eyes, she pecked her beak through the air, intentionally avoiding making contact with either of the Digimon, and flapped a few times, rising into the air to avoid any potential counterattack. Although she loved fights and lived to feel the thrill of killing weaker Digimon, she needed to case the situation first. If the Plotmon and Cutemon were stronger and had the ability to transform into higher levels, then she wouldn't stand a chance. She needed to pick and choose her battles wisely. "What a joke, the bunch of you are!" the Biyomon huffed, her attention shifting and locking onto both of the humans. "Humans make you soft. Can't you see that? They're weak and they make you weak!"
Slowly, she flew above the two grounded Digimon and hovered over to the human's heads for a long moment. She looked over at the Digimon, taunting them with her devious smirk, then looked down at the humans below her, prepared to attack. However, something stopped her. t wasn't a physical restriction, but something else entirely. It was the light from Unica's backpack. It called to her. Staring at it made her tiny bird heart beat faster and faster, filling her with a buzzing adrenaline-like rush that she had only ever felt when absorbing a rival's data. As if forgetting that she had just made some enemies and landing was a bad idea, she did just that. She lowered herself onto the ground and folded her wings against her body. With a cocked head, wide eyes, and a puzzled expression, she neared Unica from behind.
The poor child continued to cry, however. Soon after Yuu had gone to her side, she clasped her hands over her eyes and sniveled loudly. The bird had frightened her and it would take more than a few "It'll be okay"s to make her believe that things were better. Because of this, she was unaware of the Digimon creeping up behind her.

...That Biyomon did it.
She called her a joke.
Nobody calls Coolmon a joke. "A joke? A JOKE?! You're the cross-eyed Akatorimon wannabe that can't look where she's going!" Coolmon huffed and sassed like an angry soccer mom that had just gotten told "I AM THE MANAGER."
It seems Coolmon had lost her cool! Oh no! So, as Birdie flew over and began to approach Unica...Coolmon ran around the girl and at Birdie to attempt the only thing worth attempting.
Tackling the birb.
She was too rustled to notice that she wasn't angry anymore.

This had gotten a turn for the interesting; while Kyo didn't know what Coolmon or the Piyomon in front of them were capable of doing, she didn't care in the slightest. Heck, even if the bird over there wasn't just trying to intimidate her through a bravado as she thought and actually had the muscle to back her words, the Plotmon couldn't care less.
When it came to battles, she was as confident as they came; she had no doubt that she could dispatch any opponent on direct combat, Yuu being at her side only made the painfully obvious even more certain. Her might just couldn't be matched.
Gazing directly into her foe's eyes, the luster of confidence shone in her eyes. "You think you're so tough, huh!? Let's see what you're made of!" Luckily (for the Piyomon), Kyo's delusions of grandeur and the fact that she was about to evolve straight into Astamon and turn the bird into swiss cheese suddenly came to a halt when she noticed the light on Unica's backpack. Yuu had noticed it too, and that was probably why she hadn't issued any commands.
["Shit."] The blonde knew what was happening; she had seen it happen one too many times already. Unica and this... bully, together? Man, this surely was a recipe for disaster. Still, there wasn't much she could do about it; denying somebody their rightful partner was probably one of the cruelest things that came to her mind. Even if that partner was an asshole.
Yuu gestured to Kyo, who had already realized this strange event too. Guess the only thing the duo could do was for the digimon to guard Unica from anything fishy pink bird attempted, while the human tried to make her calm down a little more; the fact that she had decided to willingly relinquish her vision and that Yuu couldn't speak made this notably difficult, but she still did her best effort.
She crouched down to her level, and slowly made her open her eyes as she patted the kid's head, showing a calm smile. She would then gesture around and show that everything was okay. Finally, she would show that both Coolmon and Kyo were willing to stand by her side; there was nothing to be afraid of. Truthfully, she hadn't risked a higher form already mostly because anything that wasn't the Gaogamon she had already seen could intimidate Unica. Only time could tell.

As Yuu knelt down and patted Unica's head in a comforting manner, Kyo and Coolmon were ready to destroy the Biyomon. They moved in sync, launching themselves forward the moment the pink Digimon landed on the ground behind Unica. However, Kyo stopped suddenly, skidding to a halt and following the gaze of both the assaulter and of Yuu to the backpack where something shone brightly, managing to make its presence known even though it was located safely behind a layer of woven fabric. They knew the truth of the matter. They knew that the emotional seven-year-old and the temperamental, power-hungry Digimon were destined to be partners. It was unfortunate, that much could be said, but nothing could be done about it now.
Just as Yuu was managing to comfort Unica - causing her to lower her hands and lock eyes with the older woman - a loud thud followed by a grunt of frustration could be heard from only a foot or two away. Unica whirled her head around and glanced over her shoulder to see her "pretend partner" fighting her real one. The pink bunny had tackled the pink bird to the ground and it was difficult to tell where one Digimon ended and the other began due to the amount of pink there was. "Get offa me, you long-eared twerp!" the Biyomon hollered, flapping her wings in a panic and using the talons on her feet to scratch at Coolmon's tiny body.
"Stop!" Unica screamed suddenly, tears beginning to flow again and her hands clasping over her mouth in reaction to the horror that she was witnessing. "Stop it!" she cried again as the bird began pecking at her friend. When the cute bunny began attacking in retaliation, Unica stumbled to her feet and ran toward the scuffle, skidding to a stop a few inches away to avoid being hit. "Don't fight!" she sobbed, her hands balled into fists in front of her chest as her heart ached to see two cute animals fighting. "That's mean! Stop it!" Unica whimpered, taking a step forward and reaching out, as if touching one of them would cause the conflict to cease.

"I HAVE A URGE TO BEAT A BULLY UP AND I'LL SATE THIS URGE YOU PIECE OF TWENTY-HERBED KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN!" Coolmon shouted and flailed her arms, attempting to whack and bap Birdie like her life depended on it. This continued on enough that Coolmon...Didn't really notice the attempts to comfort Unica until she started yelling at them.
This caused Coolmon to stop dead in her tracks, about to slug Birdie again. Some Rookies were watching. It was awkward. "...But she's mean." She explained.
Why was she being punished for this? Why her?
She didn't know why.

It was working! Well, somewhat; as soon as Unica gave some signs of calming down just a bit, the fight between the pink bird and the pink bunny threw everything off. Unconsciously, a frustrated sigh escaped her lips. She wasn't sure on what to do anymore, but at the very least she guessed that... stopping this quarrel was in order.
If anything, Kyo even seemed to look forward to it, and while that'd have been okay in any other situation, they had to keep appearances in Terminus. There probably were some onlookers around, and that meant she had to behave... somewhat properly?
Man, her job surely felt bad at times. Quickly glancing at the Plotmon, the blonde made a quick gesture to her, prompting yet another sigh. "B-But!" If anything, doing the mature thing was even more frustrating to the digimon.
["No buts."] Eventually, she nodded, prompting the digivice on Yuu's hip to glow, triggering yet another evolution. This time, however, a big dog wasn't the end result; a tall woman with an animal mask and sporting a formal outfit made its appearance instead.
The Astamon would try to get right in the middle of the fight, and separate both rookies, simply shoving them away from each other. Fight died off a bit already, but one couldn't be safe enough about it. "Enough. Violence is forbidden inside Terminus, and as an officer of the law I have more than enough evidence to put you both behind the bars or worse if you resist."
Going through the usual procedures, she would show her marshal badge before adding. "But I won't, just as long as you stop on this instant. Now, I'm probably going to regret saying this but." She pointed at the Piyomon, her gaze boring into the bird. "It's obvious you're related to the child over here, so you'd best approach her slowly and... not try anything funny. Got it?"
Hopefully, this would be good enough to defuse the whole thing. And if not, she guessed they would have to search for Unica's partner... in the Village of the Beginnings? Not something she wanted to resort to, but it was still a possibility.
Yuu, on her stead, just watched the whole scene unfold. Her partner had been convincing enough but some questions were still unanswered. How would this meeting affect Unica's trip back home, and... would "Birdie" be a good influence on her? She wasn't exactly thrilled to find out the answers, that was for sure.

In any other given situation, the Biyomon would have gone all out on this pesky Cutemon, but she wasn't hot-headed enough to jump directly into a conflict without believing she had a good chance of winning. She had come this far and she wasn't about to be reduced to Digitama for picking a fight recklessly. Sure, she liked teasing disadvantaged individuals and sometimes couldn't help but snap at people who stood in her way - as had happened with the humans and their pets - but never in her confrontation did she ask for or accept a duel. There were two Rookie level Digimon she would have to face off against and who knew if they had access to higher evolutions. Biyomon doubted the Cutemon did, but the Plotmon seemed confident in her threats. They weren't empty. She'd be able to back up her words if things got too intense.
With all this considered, the Biyomon had still decided to taunt the two Digimon by flying over to the humans who sat huddled together. The pink bird hadn't actually planned to do anything, and she certainly had no plan after she noticed the brilliant, alluring light coming from the young child's backpack. Although the Biyomon had no intention to get into a real fight with this group, the Cutemon had thought otherwise. The plush rabbit tackled and continuously wailed on the rival Digimon without mercy. She was furious. Blinded by rage. Although Biyomon tried time and time again to kick off the Cutemon or to blow the rabbit away with a flap of her wings, the pink bunny never let up.
The young girl's words pierced through the air as she begged them to stop fighting, causing the Cutemon to stop her barrage of attacks abruptly. This was Biyomon's chance! Her eyes narrowed as she focused on her distracted prey and her beak began to glow and sharpen into a deadly point. As she lunged toward her attacker, she hollered out a fierce, "Hard beak!" However, before her attack could land, an Astamon stepped between them and used her large hands to pull the too apart. It was really more of a shove, as it interrupted the Biyomon's attack and caused her to jump into the air - flapping her wings to remain airborne - in surprise at the interference. "Hey, jerk! What's you're problem?" she twittered, not realizing that the tiny Plotmon and the Astamon were one-and-the-same, though it didn't take long for her to connect the dots.
The Ultimate Digimon proceeded to respond to the Biyomon's question by explaining how violence in Terminus was forbidden. The Biyomon wanted to rebut with some snarky comment, but couldn't think of anything in time. The large masked Digimon went on by mentioning how she was an officer of the law, how she could easily arrest the both of them, and how she would let them off easy if they agreed to let bygones be bygones. As if noticing the skepticism on the Biyomon's face, the Astamon revealed her badge, confirming that she worked with law enforcement.
"Yeah, alright. Look, I just wanna talk to the kid, but Long-Ears here won't let me," the Biyomon tried to explain, shooting a nasty look at the Cutemon who fortunately did not have the ability to fly and thus could not reach her. It was obvious that the Astamon didn't like and didn't trust the pink bird, but she knew that fate had brought Unica and the Biyomon together for a reason and she didn't want to be responsible for keeping them apart. The Champion Digimon allowed the stranger to approach the young girl, with a few restrictions: the Biyomon had to approach slowly and she had to mind her manners. That much she could do.
The bird nodded in acceptance and lowered herself to the ground, eyeing the Cutemon cautiously to make sure the rabbit didn't try anything. After staring for a long moment, the Biyomon looked back at the young girl who had been standing in silence during the whole ordeal, wide-eyed and observing all the strange sights and sounds around her. Something about the awe in her expression pissed her partner off, but the Biyomon kept her thoughts to herself and waddled a little closer to the human... and the girl continued staring. "Well? Don'tcha have anything to say?" the Biyomon snapped, unaware of the temperament in her voice.
"You're not very nice," Unica said suddenly, appearing completely unaffected by the strange Digimon's harsh words.
The pink bird huffed in irritation and squinted her eyes in response. "And you're not very--" the Biyomon began, sarcasm dripping from each and every word she uttered, though she was promptly cut off by the child who was now looking up at Yuu.
"The Birdie's really pretty," Unica announced.
Upon hearing these words, the Biyomon's breath got caught in her chest, her eyes widened in mild surprise, and her feathers raised slightly. She had never been called pretty before, and she couldn't really see it herself. She liked to imagine herself as a ferocious and feared being - or, at least, that's what she hoped to be one day - so the compliment took her off-guard. It was true that she was much more appealing to the eye than some other Digimon which the human child had seen in Terminus, such as the skeleton mammoth and the grinning puppet. With pinks, blues, and purples making up the majority of her color palette and a thick layer of downy feathers covering her body, it should have come as no surprise that a little girl would be drawn to the Biyomon.
Suddenly at a loss for words, "Birdie" just watched as the child looked away from her adult counterpart and returned her gaze to her digital partner. "Don't you have anything to say?" Unica asked, giggling a little as she found irony in the fact that she was using Birdie's own words against her.
"I think we're partners," Birdie finally replied, a puzzled expression crossing over her face as she tried to wrap her head around what that actually meant. She had heard that humans and Digimon partnered before, though she had never considered what that actually meant. She had always believed that a Digimon and human would team up and the digital monster would become something of a pet: dependent, weak, tamed. The idea that any Digimon would choose to have a human partner sickened her, but between the odd heart-felt connection she had for the child and the captivating glowing light, she was convinced that it was more than just ownership and pethood. So what did it actually mean to have a partner?
Unica, however, being so young and still being unclear about the idea of a partner, shook her head in response to Birdie's statement about the two being destined partners. "Noo!" she chuckled playfully before pointing an index finger at the Cutemon. "He's my partner!" Incorrect pronouns aside, Unica had a point. Back in the desert, when she and the pink rabbit had first met one another, she had announced that they would be pretend partners and now she had it stuck in her head that it was truth.
"Is that so?" Birdie asked quietly, turning her head slowly toward the Cutemon before locking eyes with the tiny rabbit. She wanted answers and if the rabbit was the girl's partner as Unica believed and as Birdie had originally assumed, then someone needed to help her figure out exactly how and why she was related to the child.

Uh oh.
It seems like Coolmon had been caught. Yikes. She didn't necessarily connect the identity of Kyo with Astamon either, just a woman with a REALLY NASTY LOOKING GUN. So, she scampered away from Birdie and put her hands up.
She took a moment to recount everything that had occurred up to this point. Simple. Tackle.
Then she almost got beaked. Then she got gun.
...Coolmon felt a wave of sudden...Well, she couldn't figure out what it was but something just washed over here as Birdie and Kyo both spoke and she just shrank back. Was it fear? Nobody could quite tell. Not even her. She just shrank back and curled up and hoped that her scarf could hide her enough.
What'd even happened? Why'd that happen?
...Doesn't matter. Her ears picked up that she was being addressed. Coolmon looked up. What'd she hear earlier...That...the Biyomon was the girl's real partner.
So it seemed.
"...No. She's right. You're her partner. Her real partner. I'm just...me."

The day was getting interesting, wasn't it? The fact that Unica, the Piyomon, the duo and the Cutemon had converged in this situation was pretty unlikely, and yet... that were they were.
For a second, Yuu looked at her partner; even if usually playful, Kyo could get pretty serious when she decided to, not the say that being a gun-toting gangster lady of sorts probably helped. Right now, the two of them had to common desire of this situation having a peaceful resolution, and of Birdie being actually a nice digimon that just was frustrated by a bad day or something instead of something... darker.
Were that the case, they probably would have to take measures down the line. Partners or not, given that Yuu had been the first acquaintance Unica had in this strange world made her feel... responsible for her welfare. Not to say that she was so small and seemed to be so innocent about what could happen in here...
Had she done the correct thing? She could have just taken away the digivice until she was a little older and more prepared to the harshness of this world. Unica herself was obviously not mature enough to take this kind of decisions by herself. Had she failed as a mentor...?
Ultimately, she decided that having freedom of her decisions was something invaluable. Denying this opportunity was something that would probably make her feel worse. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. Still, she silently vowed she would do her best at trying to shield the girl from the harsh side of this world.
Just until she grows up a little bit.
Kyo, on her stead, just observed the interaction between Unica, "Birdie" and Coolmon. Despite her haughtiness, the Piyomon seemed to be easily flustered, the blonde already managing to throw her off balance. With any luck, she would be okay. She really hoped she would.
Wonder how much would this take. They still had to take Unica to her home, and probably teach and/or coerce the Piyomon to collaborate into going back to the human world... probably after devolving.

When the Cutemon hesitantly admitted that Birdie was correct and that Unica was not her partner, the pink bird couldn't help but feel a devious and taunting smirk cross over her beak. Her large blue eyes shifted back to the young human and she gave a gentle nod at the child in confirmation. Unica, who was now utterly confused about what was happening, looked up at Yuu for clarification. Was it true that the pretty, mean bird was her partner? That couldn't be right, could it? She didn't feel like this Digimon and her had a sibling-like relationship so there was no possible way they could be partners. She continued staring, wanting her friends to say something else on the matter but they didn't. They remained silent, a defeated look on Coolmon's face and a cautious expression on both Yuu and Kyo's. They knew the truth and there was nothing else that could be said.
Noticing Unica's diffident look, Birdie pointed a claw over the girl's left shoulder. "Check the bag," she suggested quietly, not entirely sure what the glow in the backpack was from, but she was positive that it had something to do with why she and the child were connected. Not knowing what else she could do, Unica obeyed. She pulled off her pack and knelt down in the middle of the road and immediately noticed the shine. She unzipped the front pocket and pulled out the source of the glow to find that it was a tiny device, similar to that of the one Yuu had, but this one was a gentle shade of lavender rather than black and red.
"Woah!" Unica gasped, turning the digivice in her hand and examining it further. The screen illuminated with a bright white and it continued whining quietly. As she shifted it toward Birdie, the glow stopped and the screen returned to its default setting. The obnoxious sound stopped as well and it became no more impressive than a phone with a dead battery. For whatever reason, this excited Unica. Yuu and Kyo were partners, and Yuu had used a similar machine to turn Kyo into a large dog; therefore, it stood to reason that if Unica could activate her device then her new partner could turn into a large dog as well! She held the digivice out toward Birdie as if she were handing it over and exclaimed, "Turn into a doggy!"
Birdie quirked an eyebrow and stared at the device between them. The digivice didn't even look like it was on. "What're you going on about?" she rebutted, glancing back at the child and looking a bit irritated.
Suddenly realizing that things weren't going her way, Unica pouted out her bottom lip and groaned gently. She turned the device so that she could look at its small screen. It didn't appear to be responding to her commands. "You were 'possed to turn into a doggy," she whimpered quietly in answer to Birdie's question. With an eyebrow still cocked, Birdie began realizing what it meant to have a human partner. Humans, with the help of these strange devices, could help Digimon evolve at will. No more grinding necessary. She just needed to figure out how they could make the pesky thing work - then she'd have access to unbelievable power! That explained why the tiny Plotmon was able to turn into an Astamon so suddenly: she had a human partner. That was the key to ultimate power.
