He really loved his job sometimes. Despite the many dangers it posed, he really didn't think there was anything else out there for him. Few lines of work allowed him to explore his unending curiosity. Well, few that also paid him for it. His client for this particular task happened to be one of his favorites, too. The kind who had no time limit for him. Who wasn't in a rush to get that ancient crown from a lost kingdom for whatever reason. Who simply needed him to map an old ruin for Scholar purposes.
Oh, and probably safety reasons too. Those ancient Digimon had a nasty imagination. Some traps looked rather painful to die in. Unlike a certain wacko, Squire rarely ever found engaging them fun. But his constant outings into ruins and dungeons had taught him to spot them. He very rarely fell into them, and when he did, he could usually get out of trouble before being hurt.
Such as now.
The little dragon held no love for the boulder traps. The kind of traps that forced the victim to run down a long, narrow hall with a giant boulder threatening to crush them hot on their heels. The fact that he could see it was made of metal with reinforced steel spikes didn't help in the least. Like christ! He rarely ever found anything worth all the damn traps he usually found on these places.
In one swift motion, the small dragon suddenly threw himself to the floor. His body swiftly rolled to the side, pressing itself neatly against the wall. The large boulder continued rolling forward, seemingly crushing his small body before continuing forth undeterred.
Except the small dragon was still exactly where he drew himself, mostly untouched. It was a trick that only Digimon as small as him could really enjoy. Cruel as the traps may have been, they had all obviously been made with larger, tougher Digimon in mind. What kind of silly rookie would venture into dangerous, spooky ruins, after all?
Well this one, obviously.
Standing up, the small dragon patted himself off. Dust and small pieces of rock fell off him easily enough as he began to continue walking in the direction the boulder had plowed through.
His job was highly unorthodox amongst the members of PROFIT. Kyo and Yuu were law officers. Their jobs were rather simple in nature, usually. Here's a target, go get it. It was easy money for people as strong as them. On the other hand, there was Ryouta and Ryu. They were 'couriers'. It was best not to go into too much detail about what their work really entailed. Coronamon was a chef. Simple job. Good job, in Squire's opinion. Marshall was also there, though Squire didn't know if he really did anything.
Him, though? 'Archaeologist' had a nice ring to it, but it was probably not the correct way to describe his job. Sure, he was usually trying to discover new ruins and ancient dungeons, instead of visiting already discovered ones. But he also occasionally tried to discover entirely new sections of old ruins. For example, he was pretty sure there was a secret entrance hidden away somewhere in these ruins, leading much deeper than anyone else knew.
But that wasn't his task for today, unfortunately, and Squire was a bit selfish, so he wanted to keep that discovery to himself for a while if he could. Just until he had explored every nook and cranny of the place. Then, he could make his discoveries public knowledge for new adventurers or the Digimon archaeology community.
Pulling out his notepad, Squire slowly added the long corridor to a small sketch he had drawn of the ruins so far. He had made good progress, but he was still a couple of chambers short. There were quite a few traps to be marked yet, too.
He added a note on the trap on that particular corridor, using the legend he had written previously before tucking his notepad back into his pouch.
