Amy sometimes wondered what made her like rainy days. She wasn't exactly the type that liked to stay idle too much time and frankly disliked getting her clothes wet and/or muddy, not to say that taking care of hair afterwards was a drag...
Still, she found herself staring at the rain falling down with a small smile on her face. Maybe the brunette should just stop wondering why she liked things and just enjoy them. Life seemed to be too short to worry about stuff like that. Especially since she could watch the rain falling down without getting wet herself. It was the first time she was in this small café at Shibuya 104, but the place had all what she needed; a table that let her see the rainy outside through a conveniently placed window, a cup of hot chocolate and some biscuits to pass the time until the rain stopped. The food was alright, and while the place had some of its tables occupied, those weren't that many. Weird, considering how cozy the atmosphere was... well, at least for Amelie.
Maybe she was the odd one that enjoyed all those simple pleasures? Nah, that was probably a lie; maybe she was just exaggerating the situation to feel special about herself. That one was more likely.
Not like she had much to do right now, except for watching the raindrops beat the floor incessantly and... letting her mind wander.

Rain drops on roses and- uh. Was it something about kittens, or white dresses? Maybe kittens in dresses? That would be cute. Meicoomon needed to get a dress. But, what were the right lyrics? Maybe Asher had just combined two totally different songs in his head. Oops! That had definitely been it. Thinking about it, white dresses were also in the original song though, right? The teen really needed to stop thinking about his favorite -- or maybe least favorite -- things.
No, Asher definitely liked kittens. And the rain. White dresses were entirely off that topic and not something the redhead even cared about placing an opinion on.
Oh, shoot. He'd gotten distracted. What was he supposed to be in this area for? Something for Piper. Something, something, some-no. Still no idea! Maybe it would be better to go inside, rather than just standing out in the rain and debating song lyrics. Rain had a way of washing away one's worries, didn't it?
Once he had ducked into a building, the young man was brought back to reality. The buzz of people, the crisp smell of rain was dissipating, and feeling of wet hair sticking to skin. Oh, yeah. This part was the 'least favorite' from the earlier thoughts, wasn't it? He really should have at least put up his hood earlier. Trying to fix the locks that clung to his face, the teen removed his glasses and lightly shook his hair out. Adjusting it a little with fingers, Asher quickly considered it good enough and returned the glasses to his face. At least the hairstyle was still short enough that it dried relatively quickly.
Still unsure of what he had even been sent out for, the actor rocked on his heels while deciding on a random place to check out. With any luck, Asher would be able to remember on his own and not have to text an irritable sister about the forgotten goods. Oh! A cafe looked like a great place to zone ou- collect his thoughts. Yes, because thoughts were necessary for remembering what he was even here for.
And, hey, cafes had coffee and coffee made for more awake teenagers.
Placing hands in his jacket pockets, the redhead quietly made his way into the small place, glancing over the menu before deciding to go with his initial choice. While waiting for his drink, yellow eyes flickered around the room. It was kind of surprising that this wasn't a busier location. Was their food bad? This kind of place just seemed to fit what teenagers looked for, wasn't it? Or, maybe people's taste in environment had just changed. Asher didn't care enough to keep track of trends.
What he did care about was a familiar person being here. Or, somewhat familiar? That was the chess-girl, wasn't it? Ah, name, click into place! Movie title. Started with an A. Oh! Right!
Upon obtaining his coffee, the redhead made his way toward the girl that seemed in her own world. Was it rude to interrupt whatever she was doing? She didn't seem particularly busy. But one could seem to be one thing, while actually being entirely different.
Using his free hand to tap lightly on the back of an empty chair at the same table as the acquaintance, Asher gave a curious smile. Was it creepy to keep approaching the same person, in random public places? It wasn't like he was stalking her, or anything! "Amelie, right?" An almost nervous tone slipped through the boy's lips, either second-guessing the name, or fully realizing that some people could take being friendly the wrong way. Or, Amelie could have completely forgotten who Asher was, at this point! "Trying to stay dry?" Who was he kidding? Most people were trying to avoid the rain right now! He really needed to work on opening conversations more!

Amy's silent contemplation came to a sudden halt as soon as a voice made her exit from the recesses of her mind. Not quite hearing those words, the brunette blinked in confusion, focusing her previously blurry sight on the person she had in front of her. Color her surprised; this was the second occasion the same person asked her for permission to sit in front of her. Oh well, at least this time the offer was implicit. "Yup; you have no idea how flattered I am that you remembered it." Amelie's lips were quick to give form to a slightly mischievous, yet gentle smile. "It's nice to see you again, Asher. How have you been?"
Giving him a more through look and thinking a bit about the question asked by him, the teenager found herself barely repressing a giggle. "Guess that's a way of looking at it. Why don't you have a seat? I think you need to try to stay dry more than me." Being in the company of somebody else meant that she couldn't space out looking at the rain fall —or at least not to do it without risking to look extremely impolite—, but that was fine. Asher had this strangely quality of being a natural entertainer; well, maybe it wasn't natural? He was an actor, after all. "So.. what are you doing here? As flattering as that would be, I don't think you came here just to drink something with me." The brunette said jokingly, taking a sip of her chocolate.
At least Amy was sure that she wouldn't get bored with him around.

Not everyone could pull off a smile like Amelie's. Mischievous or not, it relaxed the teen enough to stop feeling like an idiot for approaching her. "I doubt I could forget it." After all, it wasn't a particularly common name, but still had a media reference, and belonged to a pretty girl that had played chess with him! But, how had Asher been? "Pretty busy, actually!" The teen chimed, briefly debating over how his days had been going lately. So many things to do, and so little time! Except in the Digital World. Then, it felt like there was too much time and a lot of madness. "How about you?"
And, that was the point that Asher remembered that he was still a bit drippy. "Who would have thought, rain makes people wet?" He tried to joke, while pulling the chair out and taking a seat. It was definitely relieving that his interest in conversing with the girl hadn't been an utter failure! After all, some people just wanted to enjoy their drinks in peace. And, especially, people liked to spend time without someone that reminded them of a wet dog. At least Asher smelled better than a canine.
"If I'd known you were here, maybe I would have," the actor suggested, lightly. Of course, he had no way of knowing that Amelie would have been here! And, considering the alternative was stalking her, he was definitely glad that this was a surprise. Nobody needed stalking to be involved! "But, would you believe me if I said that I forgot why I'm here?" Smile laced the teen's lips, still completely unable to recall his reasoning for wandering around in the rain. "My sister sent me out for something," but whatever that was seemed to have drifted away! "I figured coffee was a good alternative until I have to text her." Stalling for time was a great tactic! And, company made it even better! Though, chances of remembering what was forgotten was going to become impossible from that! Oh well. Piper probably expected as much from him. "What about you? Are you only out for a drink?"

To Amy, Asher resulted on a bit of an enigma. Thus far, he's been the only person she's met that always managed to sound a bit... nonchalant? about things. It kinda made her feel relaxed, and that was saying quite a bit considering she had previously been gazing the rain with a cup of hot chocolate on her hands! It was a strange kind of charm, but she wasn't one that'd complain about it. "Busy? Sounds interesting. Uhhh, me?" Her own life wasn't overly interesting. Sides college, the only thing she could take note of was that strange encounter with a certain pair of brothers and Rin-Rin. Was that interesting? Probably. Believable? Not so much. "Besides the routine, not much to tell, in all honesty. Japan's far more tranquil that I've expected it to be; feels tad nice, doesn't it?"
While Tokyo and specifically Shibuya weren't small countryside towns, they were a lot calmer than other big cities the teen had been to. A welcome change of pace, she had to say. Softly giggling at Asher's attempt at joking, she gazed at the window for a moment. When would the rain stop? Not that she was in a hurry, though... Right, the conversation! Zoning back onto it, the brunette found herself faintly blushing at those words. Did he just imply that...? Nah, probs not. "W-Well, I've got to say that at least your taste when picking company is top-notch." She said jokingly, even though she couldn't prevent her voice from stammering a bit due to those words.
Unsurprisingly, however, Amy sobered up almost instantly, gazing at Asher with an amount of surprise after he said that... he had no idea about what he was doing here. Not at second after, she was already laughing. "That's definitely a responsible sibling, amirite?" Now her teasing tone was fairly obvious. "My older brother's a bit like that, but he used to do that mostly to mess around with me." Talking about siblings made her feel a bit nostalgic, but that sentiment vanished as soon as it came. Having Tobias around was fun at first, but he could get really annoying really fast.
What was she doing here? That was a good question! Smiling a bit, she took another sip of her chocolate before answering. "I can't really remain in the same place for too much time. So, if things get stale, I just get out for a walk or something. That's why I came here; pity that the rain made me stay in this place, but there's not much I can do about it. The flip side is that I've got a good drink and good company. Pretty good, huh?"
Pity that the relative calm of their meeting would be interrupted by her phone... ringing? No, it wasn't ringing. The tone that came out of it could only be described as plain weird. It sounded a bit like radio static, even. Bringing it out, she fumbled with it a bit, but the sound didn't stop. "This is so weird; it's the first time this thing acts like this. Wonder what's up with it." As long as it didn't end up catching fire...

Busy could be interesting. Like that time that he was busy being abducted by aliens! Oh, wait. No, that was mostly just annoying. Not that a story like that would be believable to anyone, aside from maybe a group of five year old children! Though, Asher really wouldn't mind if he wasn't busy, for once! Like today! Not being busy was pretty great.
Pressing his cup to his lips. Had it cooled enough to safely drink? There was only one way to find out! "Tranquil?" Asher echoed, before taking a drink of his coffee. Okay, yep, this was still hot! But it was too late, and the teen wasn't going to whine about it now! Placing the cup on the table, the teen shrugged. I guess. I didn't really have any expectations before moving here, though," he admitted, with a small smile. Did anyone ever expect the young man to think anything through? "It's a nice change of pace, though." Sort of, at least! Maybe 'nice' wasn't entirely accurate! But, he got a cat out of the whole ordeal. That was nice, sometimes. When it didn't involve claws or insults.
For a moment, Asher thought that his comment had gone unnoticed. After all, Amelie still seemed rather distracted! But, he couldn't blame her. The teen had interrupted whatever thoughts she was having. That would have been enough to put him in a daze! Why expect anything different from someone else?
But, ah, there was the response! And, was that a stutter? Nah. Couldn't be! "Of course it is," the teen confirmed. After all, Amelie made for great company! Though, now that he thought about it, a lot of the people that he socialized with were notably younger than him. Heck, Elliot was only like, what, thirteen? That was kind of weird. Asher really needed to find people closer to his age to spend time around. "Don't find this a weird question," he began, with a thoughtful hum, "but, how old are you?" Wasn't it rude to ask a lady their age? Oops.
At least he had gotten her to laugh about his blunder. "Oh, come on. It's not that bad, is it?" Smile grew from being teased about the subject. It was good to have company like this. And, at least he hadn't forgotten to pick Piper up from someplace, or something actually important! "Maybe, it's just a big brother thing," he suggested, lightly. Of course it was an older sibling's job, to be kind of irritating! Wasn't it? Either that, or Asher just wasn't a very good brother. Who knew! The redhead surely didn't!
Subconsciously mirroring Amelie, the teen took another drink of his coffee. For a moment, he mulled over the response. Was she the flighty type? Or, just antsy? Curious. At least she didn't seem too bad about the entrapment! "Not a fan of walks in the rain?" The actor toyed with still-damp bangs, trying to brush them away from his glasses. He should have brought an umbrella. Lowering his hand, he tilted his head slightly. "I mean, I think everything's turned out pretty well." If Amelie hadn't stopped in here, then who would Asher be spending time with? By now, he probably would have caved and called Piper for proper instructions!
That would be postponed for quite some time, it seemed. There were so many distractions to be had! Like that sound that Amelie's phone was making! "Did it accidentally start up an app?" It didn't sound like a phone call! So, a game or radio application was the best alternative idea that Asher could come up with! Placing a hand out, palm up, the redhead hummed, "do you mind if I take a look at it?" Sure, he wasn't some amazing technology guru, but with all the problems that he had with plenty past phones, it wouldn't be the first time fussing with wonky technology! "I promise not to go through your phone more than I'd have to."

Sorry for the delay! Just as he could be charming at times, Asher had the talent to be... cryptically weird at others too. Amy couldn't but wonder what his thoughts were at moments like when he parroted her words. Yeah, she believed that Tokyo was more or less a relaxed city, at least compared to other big cities. His lack of expectations when moving to this place surprised the teenager slightly, though. "Zero expectations? That's a kinda bland thing to say, you know? I know for sure that I wanted to stay as far as I could from all the strange food they make in this country." Her teasing tone unveiled that she was mostly joking, even though her statement was probably somewhat right. "A change of pace, huh? Was your life busier before coming to this place? Mine was... more or less the same, in all honesty."
The conversation followed up somewhat normally, at least until Asher went ahead and asked for... her age, of all things. Well, even though he said to not find that question as weird... it kinda was? The brunette wasn't sure of it. Oh well, she could definitely play along. "Too late; I already found that as a weird question." An entertained smile crossed her lips as she took another sip of her chocolate. "Seventeen. What about you? If I were to guess it, I'd say... nineteen? Maybe twenty." And probably no more than that; she kinda didn't think he was twenty, but... better to make him older than younger, right? Most men preferred to appear more mature than what they were, or at least that's what Tobi said most of the time.
Speaking of older brothers... Amy could say that she could see the pattern about them; most of them were made to be endlessly annoying to their angelic little sisters, apparently. "Guess it must be fun to be an older brother, then. Getting somebody you can annoy endlessly must be fun." She wasn't serious about those words, of course. Or... maybe she was?
"I don't dislike walking down the rain, but I'm not a fan, yeah. Well, at least if I have an umbrella or something; getting surprised and ending up completely soaked is not a thing I usually look forward to." Seemingly that had been Asher's situation, but hey, there wasn't anything Amy could do about that. Except maybe share her umbrella with him on his way back, but she could say that at least for now, the damage was already done. One thing was for certain, though. Just like the redhead had said, things had turned really well. With any luck, the rain would cease soon and make the evening even better. "Yup. I'm glad I found this place and I can't complain about how things have been going thus far."
Well, not having into account what'd happen next, of course! The whole phone static thing was really weird for Amy, who just handed out her phone to Asher. Not like she had stuff that she didn't want for others to see in there. "Sure thing. I just can't access anything. It's almost as if the phone had a mind of its own."
Just like she had said, the phone's screen seemed to be completely frozen, the only thing indicating that it was "functioning" being the static-like sound that came out of it. At least for the first five seconds; soon after, the device suddenly changed shapes, foregoing most of its buttons and screen size for... a rather interesting design. Lest to say, it didn't look like a phone anymore. Dumbfounded, the brunette stared at the pink-black device that previously had been her phone, then at Asher, then back at it. "So, uhh... what's that?"
As she said those words, the device's screen began to pulse. It looked like... a map of sorts? And it was pointing at something nearby.

It's fine! :3
Aw, was it really bland to admit that? Asher would have to work on how honest he was, next time a question like that came up! Or not, because the topic would surely be forgotten by the time he left here. At least Amelie made it sound like she was just making fun. Or, was that just her way of being nice? Whatever, don't overthink it! "Where's your sense of adventure?" Asher found himself countering in an equally joking tone. "It's fun to try most things once." Unless they were obviously really gross. Or just smelled bad! Then again, the redhead was particular about smells. Especially when it came to something he was about to eat.
This made it a little harder than he hoped to find some foods appealing around here. Or, in general.
Taking another drink of his coffee, the teen debated on how he wanted to respond to the next question. It must be nice, not having one's lifestyle heavily altered by every move. For a second, Asher found himself envying the brunette. "It felt like it was," he admitted, finally, while trying to compare the level of busy that he was now to back in California. A lot of that felt like a chore. Sure, Asher found himself balancing quite a bit here, but it was more fun, wasn't it? "Acting comes with a lot of work, social events, and auditions," he pointed out, tone light. "Then, I had to figure out how public school works after being home-schooled forever," which was surprisingly difficult to understand at first! Along with a stalker mom, but that certainly wasn't being brought into the conversation! "Japan just feels like I'm on vacation." A very long one, that still involved school and an actual job! But, it was really nice!
"Darn," the young man's lip twitched into a smirk, clearly not taking offense to the weirdness. Amelie was a strangely relaxing person, wasn't she? It wasn't always easy to find someone that didn't quickly develop a temper with Asher. But, seventeen wasn't that different from his age. It was quite a bit closer than the usual age group that found themselves talking with him. The ex-actor's smirk shifted to an almost hurt expression, fingers freezing on the rim of his cup. "Do I really look that old?" At least she wasn't guessing any higher! Then, Asher might actually get a little distressed. Youthful appearances only lasted so long! And, would Asher still look acceptable when deemed as a proper adult? Hm. Another thing to worry about at a different date. "You were close," he hummed, as the offended look vanished. "I'm eighteen." At least she didn't mistake him for a fifteen year old, or something! That would be really embarrassing!
If only Amelie knew just how 'angelic' Asher's sister really was! With a small laugh, the teen nodded, "it's a ton of fun!" And, it really was! "I love having a little sister," he commented, cheerfully. Anyone without one was really missing out!
Oh, an umbrella sounded like a good idea. "I should have checked the weather before leaving the house," the young man admitted, mostly to himself. Not that this would be a learning lesson for him! It wasn't the first time Asher had been caught in a downpour, and surely wouldn't be the last! Would he have even thought to bring an umbrella, anyway? Probably not. At least the damp boy didn't mind the rain in the slightest. Just the parts that came after getting out of the rain! Trying to focus on the conversation, rather than his own thoughts on the downpour, Asher shifted slightly in his chair. "I'm glad," the teen admitted with a smile. It would really suck if Amelie wasn't fond of being trapped with her current company!
And, now Amelie was trapped with him anyway, because Asher had a hold of her phone. "Maybe it does! Phones are pretty smart," the young man joked, while trying to press down on the power and one of the volume buttons. With any luck, he could force it to reboot.
Or he could make it turn into a completely different object. That works too.
Unlike Amelie's ability to look away from the new device, Asher couldn't bring himself to. It seemed to take a moment to process, while his chest began to feel as though someone was placing bricks on it. At least it was a nice color combination. But, could it still make phone calls? Texting looked pretty impossible on a-
Wait, was he seriously debating this?
Realizing that he had been holding his breath, the teen rapidly exhaled a, "sh-" before censoring himself. Not in front of a lady! Even if that was, like, one of the least offensive forms of 'profanity' in his mind! How mad was Amelie going to be when she realized that her phone was entirely gone? Fingers shook, before tightening to avoid dropping the item. "Well," he started, with a slight flinch, "it's definitely not a phone." That was a given! Trying to think of some way to describe it, while calming himself down, a map popped up on the screen.
Okay, deep breath. Was everything okay? It was going to have to be. "So, don't be mad, because I swear I didn't turn your phone into this," he started, while holding the device back out for it's owner. It certainly didn't belong to Asher! He already had one! "This is a Digivice." Yes, it certainly did look like a 'device' of some sort! "And, it's all going to sound really weird," he warned, eyes finally shifting to look around the room, and then focus on Amelie. She was going to think he was insane, wasn't she? And, they'd been getting along so well up until now! "There's this other world, full of monsters, and this map-thing is trying to take you someplace so that you can turn into one."
With how the duo had been joking so much, Asher had to make it a point to try to maintain eye contact, almost nervously. Don't think he's kidding, Ams! This was him being serious! "I'm really sorry," a small smile finally started back onto his lips, "but, there's not an opt-out button. Trust me, I've looked." During his own spirit hunt, at that! "It's probably going to keep showing that map until you follow it, too." Would that mean that she would actually listen, though? She was probably going to be more irritated about the fact that her phone was completely gone!

Undoubtedly a witty comeback. Asher's retort managed to make her smile. "What can I say? You got me there. I'm one hundred percent certain I'm not trying wasabi beer though. Like ever; the sound of it already is a bit disgusting." Whether her sense of adventure was lacking or not, she had limits she wouldn't dare to cross! "I don't really thing it'd be fun to try that one out. But... maybe it would actually be fun watching somebody else try it."
The answer to her next question was a bit... on the weird side, at least for her. Apparently, Asher had been a pretty busy guy before moving towards Japan? By the sound of it; it seemed to be a lot of work. "Seems like a pretty busy life." She finally admitted, her tone taking a bit of a more serious quality. "But... if right now you feel like you're on a vacation and you enjoy that, I think that's what matters the most. Past's past for a reason, I guess." Truth to be told, she hadn't been one to look into the past too much; dwelling into it was pointless most of the time, at least for her; maybe her reasoning was a bit weird, but she preferred to concentrate on the present and the future. After all, that's where all the real challenges were, right?
Serious topics were best left to another occasion though; right now she didn't feel like thinking or talking about them too much; all in due time. In the meantime, the brunette just decided to enjoy the pleasant evening she had in front of her. "Younger than my guess? Color me surprised." Giggling a bit, the teenager wondered that if he was younger than eighteen, it probably wasn't by much. "You don't really look that old, but people on their late teens or early twenties always looks the same to me. Maybe I'm weird like that, but I have a hard time finding the difference." And so, the grand winner was... eighteen. "Oh well. Almost there's good enough at times like this, right?" Luckily, they hadn't been betting or anything. "And it was kinda unfair, in all honesty! I should've made you guess my age too. How many years would've you given me?" That was probably serving a teasing remark on a silver platter, but Amy didn't care too much about that.
Not bringing an umbrella, or at least noticing that the sky was pretty much shouting that it'd rain at any moment today seemed like a little of an oversight on the redhead's stead; still, she decided not to comment on it, even though that was probably prime fodder for more funny remarks. Still, she couldn't but smile as soon as Asher seemed to reciprocate her remark on how she felt about this strange series events. Could it be that maybe she was even blushing a bit? Probably.
Those gestures were short-lived, however. Soon enough, her phone began to act weirdly, then was handed to Asher, just to convert itself into some kind of strange device. Dumbfounded as she was, Amy wasn't really in her best moment right. It took her a couple of seconds to process what was exactly happening, and even then... she wasn't sure. "Well, at least now I'm entirely sure that's not a phone anymore. So... do you what it is? I haven't seen anything like that before"
Taking the chance to get the device back, she began to eye it with curious eyes. The map-thingy it had was intriguing, even though she didn't know where that'd lead. This was so confusing... "Don't worry, I'm not mad. Whatever happened, I'm sure that you didn't have anything to do with it. Well, unless you're some kind of alien and you can morph normal phones into this kinda things, right?" Anger wasn't an emotion that even came close to how Amelie felt right now. She just wanted to... understand what the heck was going on. And Asher's description served to that purpose, even if the brunette felt that was just scratching the surface of something deeper; way deeper. What she had understood about it was that it served to go to other worlds and... turn herself into a monster?
Okay, that was pretty ludicrous. "I gotta say it. You're almost sounding like a raving lunatic right now." She concluded. For an explanation, this seemed a bit way over the top, but... "The good part is that I kiiinda believe you." Saying those words with a small smile, the brunette could see how Asher seemed to make a conscious effort to be serious and that was worthy of her respect at the very least. Would this thing be related to Rin-Rin and his strange world? Maybe. It was on her to see if that was the case. "What I don't understand is... why are you sorry about this? This doesn't seem to be that bad, in all honesty. Is there you haven't told me yet about this? I'm interested in hearing everything you're willing to tell me."
This development had been impactful enough to distract her from the fact that her phone had been an unfortunate —and permanent— casualty in this ordeal. Wonder how Amy would react when the realization kicked back in.

Wasabi beer? What? That's a real thing? "That sounds so gross," the teen admitted. But, how would it taste? Asher had to admit, he was curious now! But, even with Amelie stating that she didn't want to try it personally, maybe there was a negotiation possible? "I'd try it, if you do too," he suggested, with a grin. Of course, he couldn't expect her to take him up on that! In a way, Asher was flat-out hoping that she wouldn't agree to it, just so that he wouldn't have to try anything new and wasabi-like. It could be worth it, though!
"It was." It was also stressful, and something that Asher was kind of glad to be away from! But, at the same time, he was finding himself missing being busy. At least the Digital World gave him something to spend plenty of time on. "I enjoy it for now, at least," he hummed. Every vacation had to end eventually. It would get awfully boring to take a permanent vacation, wouldn't it? "I like the past staying where it is," the redhead admitted with a smile. Sure, he spent a lot of time trying to hide from the past, but it still made him who he was. Or, uh, something that sounded wise like that.
Not that Asher cared about sounding wise, in the slightest! Amelie wasn't someone that made the teen feel like he had something to prove. It was kind of nice. Maybe that was just because of them being in similar age, and she was more on the mature end of the personalities he was used to socializing with. "I'm awful with ages, too," the young man reassured. "We should've made a bet on if you'd get it right," he teased. But, what would the stakes have been? Surely, something ridiculous. Taking another drink of his coffee, Asher found it getting caught in his throat at the thought of having to guess Amelie's age. Yellow eyes widened briefly, while clearing his throat and placing the cup back down. "Well, it wouldn't be fair for me to guess now, would it?" This seemed like a fair argument! But, Asher still felt inclined to give some sort of answer! "You look, uh." Do not answer that with 'pretty'! It wasn't the right answer here! Eyes flickered over her appearance, trying to ignore the fact that he already knew her age. "Yeah, I think I'd have guessed seventeen or eighteen." Wasn't it better to aim low for ladies? But, it just felt like an insult to guess 'sixteen' on a young woman!
Hoping that he had dodged a bullet, the teen found himself far more focused on the not-a-phone now. Exhaling another breath of air that had been caught in his lungs, the teen found himself settling down a little. Oh, good. She wasn't upset with him. "I promise, I'm not an alien," the spirit user managed a smile after a moment of making sure that there wasn't a twist to Amelie's handling of the situation. How was she so calm about it?
Even if she did just call him a lunatic. Well, it wasn't the first time he'd been called that! "Well, even I thought I was going crazy, when I learned about this from a girl that turned out to actually be a dog," the teen gave a small laugh. Was it actually a joke? Not in the slightest. But, how long would Amelie believe the craziness of these kind of tales? They just didn't make sense! In all fairness, the brunette said that she 'kind of' believed him! May as well follow up with crazy comments like that, right?
"Well, I mean, you're going to have to replace your phone," he pointed out, as a decent reason to apologize. "And, I don't know for you, but the world just doesn't seem the same once you know about Digimon." After all, half the time it seemed like Asher found himself talking to someone that already knew about this big secret! Even his cat knew about it before him! "-And, yes, the monsters are seriously called Digimon. Short for Digital Monster. Go figure, right?" Telling this to someone felt seriously crazy!
Shifting, the teen pulled his own digivice out of his pocket, placing the blue and red device on the table beside his coffee cup. "Everyone expects you to be a hero," he added, with a small smile. In reality, Asher hated that expectation. But, he would never admit it to people that really wanted him to be a 'good guy.' "But, you probably won't get a cape and superhero mask. Is that alright?" Of course, this final part really was a joke. ...Though, actually, Asher's champion-level did have a cape. Ugh. That was a new reason to think about superheroes when dealing with the whole ordeal!
What else was there on the subject? Let's see. "There's so much about all of this, you're probably going to be learning new things months from now," he admitted, cheerily. "So far, I've met two groups of people associated with this kind of thing. People that have partners that are Digimon, and people like us," the teen tapped lightly on the screen of his own digivice. "We're spirit users. We don't get weird-looking battle pets. We turn into the monsters, themselves." The term 'monster' certainly felt like a negative one, didn't it?
"Do you still believe me? Or, are you hoping for a chance to escape?" While Asher was still smiling, his tone betrayed his lips. Nervous, yet again. "Because, if you want to find out more," he started, "I could always go with you, to the spot on your map." Or, Amelie could easily excuse herself and avoid Asher for the rest of her life! Shibuya was a busy enough place that she'd probably be successful!

That was... an interesting proposition, actually! The challenge of sorts that was just issued by Asher made Amy grin just a bit. "A drinking game, huh? I didn't know you were that type of person." She mused, obviously entertained. "Sure, I'd be up to it, but you gotta have the first sip or we don't have a deal." The teenager wasn't one to turn down a challenge... even one that included wasabi and beer on the same product. Just the sound of it was kinda gross.
The brunette found herself nodding at both of Asher's claims; by the sound of it, his past life seemed something he didn't really want to recall. She could totally understand that. Whether that hid dark secrets or just something he'd rather forget, that was none of Amy's business. Or at least she felt it like that. So, leaving it there, they moved on another topic that had managed to entertain her a fair bit; their ages. In all honesty, she hadn't expected Asher to be older than her, even if it just was a wee bit. "A missed opportunity, what a shame." Of course, she was saying that with false dejection. As much as she liked bets and challenges, that one had slipped up by in front of her; oh well. At least she had to admit that his guess was pretty good! Smiling a bit, she nodded. "That was surprisingly accurate. Wonder why..."
Unconsciously, Amy found herself giggling briefly, her blue eyes shimmering with amusement... This was probably the most fun she had in a while; well, at least until her phone decided to misbehave. The events that unfolded were plain weird, but, just like with any strange situation, the brunette decided to roll with it. Blaming Asher and running out screaming on phones morphing into strange devices wasn't really an enticing option. "Not an alien, noted. So... do you know what happened?" To be honest, she didn't expect for him to know. In fact, now that she asked herself; why wasn't her peer freaking out, either? It was rather funny that he said all the "calm down. You won't believe me." speech, but the teenager found out the reason of that behavior pretty soon. Against her guess, he had an explanation, and even though it was probably among the most ridiculous things she had heard in her life, why would he lie? Well, there were reasons he might've had, but his way of doing it wasn't probably the way of doing it.
Still, she found herself listening to everything Asher had to say, not making any comments and trying to keep a neutral expression for as much as she could. But, as his description went on, the brunette found herself faltering a bit; soon enough, her face became a little surprised, a little curious and definitely more than a little worried. Once he was finally done with his whole speech, Amy let it sink in; she sighed, then began to speak on her own. "This is just crazy. Digimon? Digital Monsters? Heroes? What's next, The Matrix?" Her expression grew worried, her eyes downcast. "I mean, turning into... monsters? And people with monsters on their own? That can't be right, Asher. I'm sorry, but I think I'll take my leave. Take care."
Amy stood up suddenly, turning around just to... turn around again, facing him with a small smile on her lips. "I wasn't serious. Hope you didn't mind a small joke as a payback for being horrible at explaining things." A small giggle once again came out from her lips; with any luck, Asher would just understand that priceless opportunity for some harmless humor. "I maybe understood half of the stuff you said; if you're going to give somebody a speech about a weird paranormal happening. You could definitely use a little more tact, you know? Anyhow, I expect at least for you to explain me things more thoroughly at some point." Getting through the lighthearted part of her response, the teenager's expression became a little more serious as she went on. "But yeah, I believe you, and I'm expecting you to accompany me to see what's the weird thing that my..." A small, awkward pause ensued. "Guess that has a weird name too. Well, what the thing that used to be my phone is pointing at. What do you say? I'd appreciate it."
She didn't sit down again. After all, the brunette's cup was empty and a strange sense of adventure filled her. Yes, this could probably not turn well at all, but she'd never know unless she tried. "Ready when you are."

"Maybe," Asher hummed, with a small shrug. Would people actually expect anything different from an eighteen year old, American boy? Not that Asher was honestly much of a drinker! But, with the offer placed, he certainly wouldn't retract it now! "I could say the same for you." Though, this did prompt more curiosity. "What kind of person did you think I was?" Probably a weird one. But, did Amelie have a weak spot for games like that? Interesting! "I'll take the first drink, if you swear you won't back out if I think it's gross," he offered, with a smile. Of course Asher intended on taking the first sip! He wouldn't make an offer like that, if he didn't know that he'd be the first to test it!
It really was a shame that a glitchy phone had to ruin their talk of ages, and who-knew-what-else. And, his explanation was pure awful, considering the teen wasn't really sure how to explain Digimon! What better explanation was there, though? Digimon required demonstration, more than anything! It was too abstract of a concept! If only the teen could better explain something so weird with ease! He could have tried to act as some sort of narrator for a movie or scene, but that felt over-the-top.
Then again, Digimon had a bad tendency of being over-the-top at all times.
And, with that thought, he could entirely understand as Amelie feigned disbelief. "I do know," the spirit user admitted, lowly, watching worry cross the girl's face. He had messed up, hadn't he? Crap. Leave explaining this kind of thing to the professionals! Which, clearly, Asher was not!
Fingers tapped lightly on the table for a second, while the redhead bit down on his tongue. Just let it go. He knew this was going to happen. Tapping stopped, as hand pressed down on the table. In part, it was attempting to keep him sitting, but the gesture wasn't working particularly well. With a sinking feeling beginning his his chest, Asher found himself beginning to push the chair back from the table as Amy rose. "H--" Barely sounding more than a hiss of air, the teen found himself leaning his side against the back of the chair as Amelie turned back around.
That was way too realistic.
Lips parted, while Asher tried to discern just how to handle such a joke. It had worried him! Breathing hitched, as yellow eyes became wide and glassy. "I, uh," confidence seemed to be thrown entirely out the window, with as little as a stutter. Well, this was awkward. And embarrassing, at that. Tears began to well, threatening to escape, while the teen averted his eyes. Giving a small sniff, he managed to continue, "I thought that..."
Finally blinking, the actor allowed the scene to break, laughter slipping from his mouth while he pulled off his glasses to wipe his eyes. "Oh, wow. You were so convincing!" Hopefully, being able to cry at-will was just as deceiving! Looking back to Amelie, Asher returned the glasses to his face. "As long as you don't mind if I joke back, we're good," he smirked, while reaching out to pull his digivice off of the table. If it sat there much longer, Asher was going to forget about it!
"Hey, I never said I acted with tact!" And, nobody could say otherwise! Asher was utterly tactless! It had to be better than explaining that his cat was also a Digimon, right? Maybe not. "I'll try to explain it better sometime. Once you have a spirit, it'll be easier. I can't really demonstrate in public, since it's supposed to be a secret," he pointed out, while rising from his seat. "Plus, experience is way better than any words," he hummed, lightly.
Once standing by Amelie, the young adult found himself subtly glancing her over. Was she wearing heels? This girl was tall! How hadn't he noticed this before? "It's called a Digivice. The 'model' is a D-Scanner," he informed, while pressing his own into the proper pocket of his jacket. "Though, I think I've heard someone call it a D-Tector, too, so whatever you want to call it." All these names sounded like weird puns, anyway.
Pushing his seat back into the position that it had been in prior to his occupation of it, Asher gave a small smile. He wasn't too concerned about the contents of his own coffee cup. Coffee was easy to replace. Moments like this might not be. "I'm ready." Were they going to have to go out into the rain? Or, would the sky let up for such an event? It was hard to tell. "Where's the map pointing?"

As usual, there was this inherent cryptic undertone in Asher's words. Or at least, Amy perceived it as that; maybe he did it to seem interesting? Well, if that was his intent, he definitely was being successful at it. "Hm? The same for me?" That couldn't but make her wonder what kind of person the redhead perceived she was. "What kind of person I thought you were?" That question definitely caught the brunette off-guard. She blinked in slight surprise before responding. "Well, definitely not one that challenged somebody you've met just twice to a drinking contest. Not that it bothers me, mind you. Maybe I just got used to most of the Japanese guys over here being overly polite." Managing to make a small shrug. "What about me, then? What kind of person did you think I was?" Least to say, she was very intrigued by Asher's thoughts about her.
How could an otherwise calm and friendly conversation have a drastic turn into something way more serious? Well, a phone transforming into a device that Amelie had never seen in her life was enough. In a moment like that, she couldn't but wonder how Asher was taking her small act; sure, it was probably a bit over the top, but the fact that Amy barely understood anything that she was being told and that Asher spoke all too quickly, not giving her even for time to think about the whole thing made her just a bit angry, and mostly mischievous. In all honesty, this whole digimon thing, in case it happened to be true, at the very least sounded very interesting.
In the end, it seemed that her act maybe had hit home; well, at least that meant that Amy had made the impression she wanted to, and luckily Asher hadn't taken her small joke too seriously; having a sense of humor in a situation like this was good, she guessed. Maybe she'd even ask him later what he was about to say with the "I thought that..."
"I don't know if I should feel offended or not, you know." She added right away, her tone definitely exposing the blatant joke. "I'd almost say that you really expected for me to turn away and just dismiss this as the ravings of a lunatic. So little faith in me..." Of course she'd feign being offended; it just made everything all the more fun. "I'm glad you liked my little act; no hard feelings, right? I don't mind you joking back at me, in all honesty." It wouldn't be fair otherwise, right? At least he said that he'd try to explain this more thoroughly later, prompting an affirmative nod on her side when the redhead argued about his lack of tact and that experience was probably way better at explaining things than mere words. That made sense, practice was always clearer than theory, at least for her. "I can guess why it's a secret. The way you explain things is probably a danger to civilized society." For a second, her playful demeanor gave way to a more serious expression, her azure eyes focusing directly into Asher's. "Thank you for trusting in me. It means a lot."
At least he'd been clear with some of the stuff. Her new "phone" was called digivice, or D-Scanner, or... D-Tector. Why had this to be so convoluted? Something having a simple explanation for once would be an awesome change of pace. "I'm already guessing this thing has a lot of technical terms. Can I just call it thingy with the weird radar thing? The random listener it probably means just the same." Still, that wasn't a priority. The priority was going in a quest! A quest for... well, whatever she was supposed to search. So, making sure that she had all the items that she was supposed to have with her, she left the table, paid for her stuff. Then began to walk towards the places exit as she checked her digiwhatever for any indication on where she had to go. "Huh, it's not that far from here. At least of I'm reading this correctly, the place should be... five or so blocks away from where we are?" At least that didn't look hard, but who knew. Appearances could be deceiving.
Currently, the weather outside had calmed down a bit, even though it wasn't exactly clear. The rain had been downgraded to a gentle drizzle, but Amy wasn't getting wet anyway. She stood by the exit for a couple of seconds, stepping outside as she opened her umbrella. "Feel free to get under it." Even if it was a relatively short walk, there was no reason for any of them to get wet, right? Or to remain silent while they walked, even. "Say... how did you get in this thing? Sounds like it's pretty sudden, but somebody must've told you that little speech about the new species roaming around and that stuff, right?" How Asher had gotten into this business was something that interested her, mostly to compare their stories. Maybe his had been a calmer affair? Probably.

Wide eyes gave an innocent blink, trying to give off as friendly of a vibe as possible. "Would you rather me be overly polite, miss?" Asher inquired, while a smile danced across his lips. That would be an almost impossible task, even for the actor! He'd have to treat the girl like a customer, or something, to achieve a proper level of polite! But, as for what he thought of Amelie? "Not someone who would accept a drinking challenge from a guy you've met twice," he offered, as a twist to the brunette's vague input on her opinion on Asher. Though, what were his other first opinions? Was Amelie the introvert type? She kind of seemed it. But at the same time, it was hard to tell!
At least she didn't seem the easily angered type! Not even taking a second to recover from pretending to be upset at her joke, the spirit user gave a casual shrug. "Wouldn't be the first time that someone thought I was just crazy," he admitted, lightly, while adding, "and, let's face it. This entire subject is crazy!" After all, what logical person would believe any of it? Including the physical proof, through the strong lack of a phone!
Fixing his hair, which had just seemed to become suitably dry enough, the teen continued to focus on the subjects at hand. "It's going to take a lot more than a joke to actually make me upset," he reassured. After all the literal pain that Karin put him though, he still willingly talked to her! What was a little tug on the emotional side, in comparison? Either way, the redhead found himself far too comfortable with Amelie. To the point that, when she teased his explanation, he began the childish retort of, "the way you lo--" Backtrack, Asher! The words about to come from your mouth will not be perceived as a compliment! Even if it was somewhat intended as one!
Shoulders provided a subtle flinch, realizing that he had been about to make a serious error in speech. "You know, you have really pretty eyes," the teen complimented, trying to cover up his mistake. But, it certainly wasn't empty! Blue was definitely a suiting color for the girl. Asher couldn't help but feel like they were going to pierce his soul. It was hard to say how he felt about that aspect of it. The failed cover quickly gave way, from processing the random thanking. For trusting in her? That was odd. "Shouldn't I be the one thanking you for that?" After all, Asher was the one spouting nonsense!
If Amelie was trying to keep some humor in the air, giving the device a new name certainly worked. A small laugh emitted from the teen's throat, "you can call it whatever you want. I mean, I call that screen, "map thing," and it's never complained about it." Or maybe it did. Was that why Asher could only turn into women? Now, this was just a troubling thought! Should he warn Amelie that the digivice had potential to be malicious?
Nah. That was just crazy thinking.
Taking a glance over the table, the redhead reassured himself that he hadn't left anything behind. Digivice and phone were both in pockets, drink had already been paid for, and... Yep, glasses were on his face. He couldn't be forgetting anything! "I wonder how this is going to work," the teen hummed, hearing the general location of it. "Wouldn't it be funny if it's leading us to something for sale?" Yes, several-thousand-yen for a spirit totem, please! Or, hopefully not. Nobody deserved to literally pay for these things.
Still, Asher hadn't found a totem in this world before. Nor had he heard of anyone else doing so. It was quite an interesting concept!
Following behind Amelie, Asher was fully prepared to become drenched yet again. Until he was offered a spot under her umbrella. "Uh," the teen paused, letting the offer sink in. Not wanting to come off too hesitant, Asher moved to be underneath the umbrella with the brunette. "Thank you." Of course that was the only thing he could think to say! Wasn't sharing an umbrella considered more of a romantic thing? Especially in Japan? Wait, wasn't there a term for that around here? Ai-ai Gasa, or something?
Obviously this was just a friendly act. But the thought lingered briefly. Which, was the maximum time it could before words filled the air. "It wasn't very exciting," the spirit user admitted, with a smile. "Turns out, my cat is actually a Digimon, and my family is full of blind people that can't tell the difference." Asher included! "Details are weird, but I ended up in some girl's house, with my cat literally talking, and the girl's cousin turned into some dog-angel-Digimon. I guess there are things to make Digimon look like people, and it is very misleading."
Remembering Amelie's revenge at his last awful explanation, the actor carefully placed his hand above her's on the handle of the umbrella, so that she couldn't do anything too awful this time. Like suddenly expose him to the rain! "They taught me a lot though. Like how to turn into the spirit. And that angels don't actually have to be nice. At all." And that Karin kicks really hard, but that wasn't necessary to add in! "Then they told me to talk to one of my coworkers about it. Spent part of the next day in a box with him. He turns into a dragon; you should meet him someday." Or not. Preferably not. Asher and Isaac weren't the type to always be on the best of terms, and he really didn't want to see what the boy would say to Amelie about him! Or, Isaac would just ramble about his girlfriend some more. It was a coin toss, really! "Unless you don't like dragons with a million eyes, that is." Good afterthought!
...Wait, was he seriously talking about this right now? Ugh. Asher just sounded like a lunatic!

The valiant attempt to not to laugh at Asher's "overly polite" self was in vain; Amelie found herself giggling heartily at the boy's act almost right away. Maybe the act itself hadn't been fun, but fact that the redhead pretty much spoke like a waiter of an expensive restaurant was too much for her to resist. "I think you're fine the way you are." Responding his smile with one of her own, she began to think about the nature of his question; by the look of it, he probably took the little challenge a bit too seriously? She made a tiny shrug right away "I don't see what's wrong with accepting. It's not like we're going to get drunk off wasabi beer of all things, right? Knowing myself, I'd probably leave the stuff alone as soon as I'm done with the first sip." Heck, it was genuinely hard for her to not to cringe at the mere mention of the beverage; getting even tipsy off it was a ludicrous proposition, at least for her!
Oh well, at least her small revenge had been taken in stride; that was good! While Asher didn't seem like the type that would take offense on stuff like that, one never knew until she tried, right? "I don't really think you're crazy if that helps anything." She said, meaning it. "I mean, everyone would look like a raving lunatic while trying to explain the existence of brand new beings nobody knows about. After all, aliens aren't that popular nowadays." Maybe it was the times? Probably people just growing skeptic after so many times with little more than circumstantial proof. Just like Asher had said, this entire thing just sounded crazy.
The brunette could even say that she was probably going on with this because she hadn't let it sink in completely; chances were that if she stopped for five minutes and really thought about how much sense the redhead's words made, she'd probably say that all those claims are impossible, but... where was the adventure on that? Even if this ended up not being true and her phone had transformed into an unknown device just because, at least the development had given her something interesting to do with her day.
Besides, the teenager really enjoyed Asher's company, even if he was a bit of a quirky person or maybe because of that. Before she could ask him about the meaning that phrase that had come to an abrupt end, a sudden compliment surprised her. Freezing for a split second, a bright red blush flooded her features for a moment before she could rein herself again. "Th-thank you." Amy didn't know why he always managed to catch her off guard; even if it was a little bit awkward, it wasn't like she minded it too much, anyway. Going back to the topic at hand, she wondered why the one giving out his thanks had to be Asher? At least for her, it didn't make sense. "Well, I mean. You are the one risking to end up looking like a lunatic just in order to tell me something that's supposedly important when you could've just let it slip and nothing would've happened. It takes some courage to do that, you know? I appreciate that."
But maybe those words made the atmosphere a little too solemn for the brunette's liking. A small joke would help to cool that down, right? It seemed like it did! Digivices having at least three or four hundred different names was probably something that'd take her some time to get used to, for sure. "Map thing sounds like a good name. Let's go with it." She wondered a bit Asher's next comment, though; it was a pretty good question. "Wait, you mean that searching for these thingies usually works differently for different people?" At least that was what she understood. "Is finding them hard or... just bothersome?"
Truth to be told, Amy wasn't sure on how to handle this. Or, basically, what she was searching for; maybe it was too abstract? Well, if it was something for sale, that couldn't be... "What shape do these things usually have?" Probably the late arrival of a barrage of newbie questions. Maybe they were so obvious that she'd understand perfectly once they arrived at their destination, but for now... it was tad confusing. She wasn't in a hurry to find out, anyway. All things in their due time.
It took Asher a bit to accept her offer. Well, walking in the rain and having the share an umbrella wasn't the most comfortable of activities, but that had to do, right? Unless he fancied getting wet again. "You're welcome." She responded with a small smile on her face. "Let's go."
A pleasant side effect of the rain was that the streets were not as crowded as usual. A more than fair tradeoff, at least for Amy. Going through the street, she soon enough regretted a bit asking about Asher's previous experiences. The guy had a genuine talent to be all over the place while explaining things. "Wait, wait a minute." Not to say that he didn't even give her enough time to process all the kinds of weirdness that he had experimented thus far. "What? You mean that your cat was one of those strange beings and that nobody knew." That was weird as hell; either those beings were a lot like authentic animals or had some way to disguise themselves or... maybe Asher's family was really unaware. Deciding to have some faith, she guessed for the first or the second. "Then... your cat spoke to somebody's cousin, who ended up being a dog-angel?" At least his final words on some kind of cloaking device made things a little clearer. Otherwise, she'd find it pretty hard to believe if somebody said that their dog was their cousin. "How did you end in a girl's house, though? By the way, you're saying it, you probably didn't even know her, right?"
Getting through this was so hard... hopefully, it'd get easier over time. "Sounds like you had a good time there... somewhat at least. By the sound of it, it seems that they were... pretty interesting people. Maybe I'll meet them someday." His next tale about... coworkers? Managed to surprise her even more than. "Coworkers? That's an interesting way to refer to other people who can turn into stuff. Why a box, though? Isn't that an uncomfortable place to be with a dragon? Unless it's the small variety, that is." By the point, she had given up all hope of understanding what was going on. Smiling a bit mischievously, she just decided to play along "Are you seriously discriminating a dragon for their number of eyes? That's hella rude, you know? What a disappointment; I thought you were better than that."
Amy could resist a small giggle escaping her lips right afterward, but seriously. How did he expect for her to take that comment? Maybe a bit quirky was a bit too generous on her stead. He was definitely quirky, at least regarding this digimon stuff.
It'd take them maybe twenty minutes of so, but the place where the digivice was pointing became pretty obvious... and a bit creepy, in all honesty. "I can already see that this is pointing at the heart of Entertainment District." The brunette's tone was now a sharp contrast in comparison to her previous lighthearted voice. Were things getting serious? "I don't know what happened there, but isn't that place pretty much a wreck?" Not that she had cared too much for a pile of ruins that for some reason nobody had bothered to repair. At least until that moment. "Maybe what happened there is related to digimons in some way? Or maybe it's just this map thingy messing with me. Any clue?"
