["Your turn."]
"Okay. I play Leeroy Jenkins, then play Power Overwhelming over him twice. Then Faceless Manipulator him and attack for twenty-eight with both. Good game."
["What."] Yuu could swear it. Sometimes... this game was infuriating. She had evaluated all the possible outcomes, and knew that her opponent's deck burst damage could rise up to twenty-four if all the conditions for it to happen met. So... how? ["Where did you get that second Power Overwhelming? Don't tell me that..."]
"Yup. Dark Peddler. Waiting until I got Brann to play it paid off." That was unfair. This girl in front of her had played so greedily, almost as if she hadn't respected her opponent, and... it went well. It took most of the blonde's self control to contain her anger. And to think that she had gotten an Elven Archer from her Peddler... Argh. Not much to say about it; better to just shake hands and to move on.
["Oh well. It was a good game. Good luck on the remainder of the tournament."] She went towards the sheet of paper the judge had given them to write the match result's and sign it. As soon as she saw the name of her opponent, the teenager's eyes widened like saucers. ["Tsumura Yuu?"]
This had to be a joke. It just had to be. At first, she thought that them looking alike was just some kind of coincidence, but now... the same names!? "You look surprised. What's wrong, Yuu?"
The worst part of this was that she was familiar with that tone, with that expression. She was being... teased? ["Who are you?"] And more importantly. Why did she really sound as if she were her? Was this some kind of copy? Or...
"Well... isn't that obvious? I'm Tsumura Yuu. The paper you've just read told you that already; that, unless that defeat also robbed you from understanding written words." She winked, in a gesture that the blonde found even more infuriating. "The smarter, prettier and obviously more skilled Tsumura Yuu, while we're at it. Oh, by the way, did I mention I really enjoy long conversations? Because currently, you look to be awfully quiet. Now, if you excuse me, I have a tournament to win."
["B+@c*"] One didn't have to be a genius to know that Yuu was literally seething, her blood almost reaching its boiling point. Her hands balled into fists as she watched her doppelganger depart, a blonde girl running after her some time after. Was her...
"Hey, Yuu? You here? Respond me, pleeeease. Are you okay?" Kyo. Did she have her very own version of Kyo too? Just... how? The blonde was completely befuddled at this.
["I'm here, it's just that... I just began to hate myself. Kinda."]
"Wait, what? Care to explain? I doubt this was something that suddenly sprang out of the conclusion of a card game. It'd have to be another series for them to be that serious."
["See that person in the distance?"] She motioned at her. ["She's... me. Don't ask, because I don't know why, or how that even happened. Look at the girl walking besides her. She looks like..."]
"Me? A bit, yes. So... you think we're dealing with trans-dimensional variations of ourselves again? Man, and I thought we've gotten over it already. At least since Yuuki and his gang disappeared, those have been pretty much... nonexistent, I think. Why they'd appear again?"
["I think it's not related to that. See, our other trans-dimensional selves admitted quite openly they didn't belong to this reality. They all said that they were passing by, and that for some reason, had to impose ridiculous tests over us. Well, not exactly over me, but you catch my drift. This time, the message I got was... different. Almost as if the person who I was talking to didn't mean to do her thing and leave, but rather... to replace me."]
"Creepy. And why do you think that way? Did she openly tell you about her plans? Because... that doesn't sound me as something Yuu would do, no matter your version. It'd be... to direct and stupid. You'd probably berate yourself right after if you ever did something like that."
["Well, of course she didn't. It was... something else, you know?"] She made a pause, clearing her throat a bit. What she was about to say wouldn't be pleasant, either for me or for you. ["In her... I saw much of what I wanted to become. I saw the haughtiness, the pride and the will to become something great. To be admired, to be venerated... you know, like me before I was forcibly reminded how small I was... repeatedly. In all honesty, seeing that unbridled desire to success burning so brightly made me... a little ashamed of myself; it was almost like looking at a mirror and seeing how great I could've become, only to find me right now as... as a broken image. All that potential, wasted."] For some reason, Yuu suddenly felt sick. And... no one was at fault for that but herself.
Kyo, on her stead, just watched... not very amused. "So... that's it? You're gonna lie down after you've seen what you could've been? That's not very much like you, you know? Maybe you've failed to fulfill your goals in the past; we've both done so, but... we've learned from that, too. Trying to take the world by storm seldom works; thinking that you're the best seldom works too. I'll say the obvious right now, before you begin to sulk. There'll always be someone better than you. And... that applies for everyone. Now, let's go and see the rest of the matches. We won't leave the venue this early, right?"
Of course they wouldn't. Whether the other Yuu won the whole thing or not. There was still much fun to be had while this tournament lasted.
And lest to say... she lost on the very next round. Oh well, maybe not even her better self was super good at card games.
Bits, please.
