A Sickness Called Insanity [Beast Spirit Hunt/Solo]

”Errrgh… I will freely admit, I’m not found of this particular segment of the Digital World. Let’s snap this totem up quickly and vacate the area before some unsavory folk discover us.” Sol grumbled out with uncharacteristic irritation and tension. Not that Alicia or Kisara could blame him. This whole area reeked of something vile and malevolent to all three of them. Alicia may wield darkness just as well as she could wield like through dying her steel in those powers, but the foulness of the very air around them was disturbing to say the least.
”You certainly said it Sol. Something has gone terribly and horribly wrong here. Many times in the past for that matter.” the ice maiden commented with a shudder. When the ping lead here, Alicia had been torn on whether to call in back up again or go it alone. On one hand, if anything screamed danger, it had to be the Dark Area of the Digital World. Still, Kuu had nearly died on her last hunt, and she herself was almost a victim of a premature celebration. She couldn’t quite shake the feeling of that pressure, of how everyone around her were practically drowning in worry for one reason or another.
So she’d opted to keep quiet about this one. With any luck her fortunes would turn around and it would be a simple grab and go issue. “Mm… when has it ever worked out like that…?” she chastised herself, shaking her head as she continued to scan the cliff side she was pacing along, taking a glance at her D-Scanner every few seconds to get a better idea of where she was in relation to her target. Seriously, why couldn’t her hunts ever take her to somewhere more… scenic? Or at least tranquil, she would take even a boring and quiet place over… this! The sea nearby truly earned its name by literally looking like thick, dark blood for crying out loud! How much more disturbing can it get?
”You say something, kid?” Sol asked curiously as he glanced to Alicia. The Spirit Wielder shrugged her shoulders, opting not to reply. The dragon spirit in turn sighed and let her be. She was a stubborn one, and this wasn’t a fight worth getting into. On top of that he was fairly certain he knew what she was muttering about.
Little did the trio know though, they were being stalked by a particularly maddened machine, which was using sound dampeners and optic camouflage to hide its presence from the group. Scans of multiple kinds ran over the Spirit User without her being aware of what was going on, the behemoth that took interest in her while currently using the expendable proxy body of a Gizmon XT collected and recorded data, feeding it into simulation after simulation and ‘perking’ in interest at the projected results.
Pressing the proxy body to move faster and catch up to the unaware Spirit user, the machine at the other end would’ve grinned in anticipation had its body been capable of such an expression. As such wasn’t the case, it settled for a devilish gleam of the eye as the drone’s fingers sparked like tasers. Perfect for disabling with little long term consequences and safe recovery.
Even Sol never saw it coming as the cloaked machine brought its taser fingers up to brush against Alicia’s arms briefly, completing a shocking circuit that coursed through her body and hit her D-Scanner as well. With a shriek heard by none but the shrouded machine, the redhead swayed, surprised, before falling unconscious and her advisers were similarly incapacitated, forced into a comatose-like state while the D-Scanner struggled and failed to reactivate. Unable to resist while unconscious, Alicia could only groan as she was scooped up by the machine and taken away. Whatever was in store for her, it couldn’t possibly be good.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some time later, the Steel Spirit Wielder groaned and blinked blearily as she came too, lifting her head up from where it had hung. Where was she now? The last thing she’d recalled was a brief chat with her spirits, continuing to search for her totem, and then… that blasted shocking pain from no where. There was an obvious conclusion to be drawn here, someone or something had gotten it in their head to kidnap her. The question to that, though, was why?
Unfortunately she couldn’t make out much of where she was at, the place was unbearably dim save for several gleaming monitors, and looking at those frankly hurt her eyes in this darkness. She tried to mover her limbs, testing the obvious restraints, and couldn’t keep herself from cursing. Heavy and very thick steel shackles, bolted to the upright table she was spread out on. She wasn’t getting out of this as a human anytime soon… but she did have a Digimon form that was more then up to the task.
“Ever flowing, ever-...” Something felt wrong as she began the chant, causing her to cut it off. Where were her collected totems!? Had her D-Scanner been taken!? Okay, now things were a lot more serious. “Sol!? Kisara!? Hello!?” She hissed out, looking around in a panic. Nothing. No response at all. The color practically drained from her face. No advisers means no support network analyzing the problem with her. No D-Scanner meant no spirits, so her most obvious option had already been closed off.
”Hmm… I had anticipated more time to compile facts and extrapolate on existing data for the purposes of forming new hypotheses… Those who become Spirit Wielders seem to be especially hardy examples of their race.” Grating and mechanical, that was the kind of voice that somewhat greeted her. The Spirit Wielder looked over, squinting a bit. In the darkness she could make out dim gleams of red steel. Was this perhaps the one that had ambushed her?
“O-Oi, what the hell is your game? Who are you anyways?” Alicia growled out, tugging a bit on her restraints even after deducing she couldn’t break them. She wasn’t just going to be some meek damsel for crying out loud! She had more pride in herself and too many people looking up to her to just accept this kind of fate! She was also mostly ignored by the other occupant of the room. The only acknowledgment she got was that the lights slowly brightened up until she could make out the draconic machine more clearly, bearing a massive horn upon it’s forehead and bearing a pack with two truly enormous cannons on it’s back. The behemoth’s circular claw-set was parted slightly, and nestled in between was the very thing she’d been looking for.
“… Why do you have that spirit totem…?” Alicia asked with great concern, her eyes going wide. Had this thing always been in possession of her dark-side Beast Spirit? This time the behemoth of a machine regarded her with a slight incline of his head. And the redhead could only gulp slightly in concern as that cold and calculating gaze was leveled on her.
”You’ve been searching for this, yes?” He asked plainly of her, holding the totem up higher as he did. Alicia bit her lip. On one hand, answering anything he asked of her could prove to be detrimental. Still, he had asked with such an even yet expectant tone that she figured it was nothing but a formality. Fortunately, the choice was then taken out of her hands. ”Of course you were. The Totem suddenly began to react and send out odd pulses after such a long period of dormancy. And then you come so close to my base of operations, holding a Steel-aligned D-Scanner, much how this spirit is aligned to Steel itself. The question was rhetorical.”
On one hand, she was upset that he simply dismissed her brief conflict out of hand. On the other, she supposed a machine would be capable of such detached and logical analysis. Still didn’t make it any less upsetting though. With a hiss, a door to her right opened, and she dared a look. One of the machine’s drones had come in, and she narrowed her eyes. She had managed to look over her shoulder as she was falling, and could swear that she’d seen something of that same shape flicker in and out of view… but she couldn’t say for certain if it was what had gotten her.
”I should at least introduce myself I suppose. I am simply Chaosdramon. Nothing more, nothing less. And you? You are going to provide me with the answers to questions I looked into for quite some time now.” The behemoth spoke again, as he directed the Gizmon XT towards Alicia.
“So you kidnap me? Forgive me for saying this but that is idiotic. There’s no way I’m telling you anything.” Alicia spat back with fire in her eyes. Oh, when she got free she was going to show this guy what for! Yes, he out leveled her highest form, but aside from having much stronger defenses she had basically taken down a Mega once already. Granted that was with some help in key moments but the point still stood!
”You are misunderstanding your function here. I will not be asking questions, thus I do not require you to speak. Your silence is actually more appreciated then you think.” Chaosdramon corrected. Alicia was about to snap back when a line of agony was suddenly drawn against her right arm; summarily her retort suddenly mutated into a strangled and suppressed cry. Tears stung her eyes as she dared to look, eyes shrinking as she confirmed why her arm suddenly had an unexpected wetness to it. She couldn’t put it too words as the Gizmon XT walked towards Chaosdramon with a red-slicked knife in hand.
With a tap on the blade, a drop of the red liquid fell upon the totem. Everyone stared at the nightmarish statue… and Alicia’s eyes widened in shock as the blood seeped in, and the point of contact seemed to almost… unravel into interconnected strands of data. That they then found out could be loosened a bit more from the totem itself with careful tugging.
”Hmm. So blood can be used as a catalyst to get a new and never before seen kind of reaction. This was entirely unexpected, as the original hypothesis presumed direct contact with something integral like blood would induce an energy reaction that could then be magnified to induce the Spirit Evolution.” Chaosdramon noted down remotely, before looking at Alicia. The redhead couldn’t help but shudder in terror and gulp eyes wide. Forget the whole distressed damsel thing, was this guy thinking of…!? ”Perhaps this new reaction is the key to determining if the digivice can be bypassed. Further testing will be required.” He was...
Another Gizmon drone came in, taking the distorting totem from Chaosdramon, before both of them turned to Alicia and began to advance upon her. The stained knife flickered in the light. To the abyss with dignity, with pride, and even with common sense at this point. With the sheer amount of fear that was gripping her heart at the moment, she did what anyone would do given the circumstances.
She screamed. She did so in fear as the last few steps were taken, inciting her to flail and struggle helplessly against the secure restraints She did so in pain as the knife was brought down upon her again. She did so in sheer agony when it was discovered that a data strand that made contact with one of her injuries tried to to break away from the totem and fuse to her flesh. She did so even as the tears streamed down and her voice became hoarse and torn; her tormentor now actively attempting to force a fusion between her and the totem in question.
It was a day that never seemed to end… a nightmare eternal.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
”Curious… for indeterminable reasons, despite fusion efforts proceeding mostly without trouble, the totem fails to react, regardless of applied stimuli.” Chaosdramon noted some several hours later, his back turned to the unconscious Spirit Wielder. The poor redhead was easily having the worst day of her life, injuries burned shut over multiple places… her body even seemed to be smoking somewhat and her hair was singed and frazzled.
”Precedent implies stress is an ideal stimulus to induce evolution, especially when a wielder first claims a new totem. Yet despite several controlled stresses being applied, there is no reaction. The digivice being necessary would require for the totems to be completely inert when in contact with their intended wielders in all ways, but this subject and totem readily reacted in unexpected ways. To the point where the totem almost seemed to desire the fusion, if they are capable of feeling complex emotion. Some other condition exists it seems, one that has not been cleared yet. Whether this applies for all Spirit Users or only this one is impossible to tell at this juncture.” With a sigh, the Chaosdramon lumbered around before coming up to the captured Spirit Wielder and raising a claw to his chin, leaning in close for a more personal inspection.
He never suspected that he should’ve kept his distance. Metal suddenly groaned and snapped in an instant. The mecha dragon’s eyes went wide as a hand jammed into his neck, through the leather under armor to allow it full mobility, and tear a fistful of delicate circuitry and pipes out. Stumbling back, the Chaosdramon suddenly slumped over as hydraulic fluid sprayed from the neck wound. Warnings were popping up all over in his computer core, alerting him to how his body was beginning to power down. The legs had given out first, and his weapons were failing in short order as well. But that was nothing compared to what he was looking at through static-filled eyes.
Something had snapped in the Spirit Wielder, her head lifting up just enough for her eyes to be seen. They steamed red like blood instead of their normal green hue, and glowed ominously. This was the feeling of fear, the mecha dragon realized. He had made a terrible mistake, pushing this young woman so far. There wasn’t even the idea that it could be assumed otherwise. These were the facts, now what was he going to do about it?
He didn’t really have a chance to do anything. His drones were coming in, but they wouldn’t arrive in time. It wasn’t any super special analysis that allowed him to deduce this truth. There was no hint towards such an outcome so far. It was something he simply knew, as well as he knew he was a Digimon of the Metal Empire family, Virus-attributed, and a Machine named Chaosdramon before anything else. And then his victim spoke once more.
"Bloodied steel hammered into blades, encircling the unbreakable abyss, now form a deathly maw that devours all... Beast Spirit Evolution…"
A terrible black mist began to leak from her open mouth, before it started to billow forth all around, shrouding her from view. A deathly howl echoed from within the mist. Metal was torn and shredded to pieces, followed by a heavy ‘thump’ of something landing on the ground. Then, one by one, four piercing, beady red eyes opened one after another. They swayed, bobbed, and weaved in time to a maddened cadence only the bearer of the accursed orbs could hear.
“Cybercursedramon...” The last word was uttered in a hateful hiss. Another howl then followed, as the nightmare was unleashed. Deadened flesh and wrung steel slammed into the already crippled form of Chaosdramon as Alicia, mind lost to the madness of her torment and the wild rage of her new form, visited every ounce of suffering she’d been made to endure upon him. Chrome Digizoid shrieked as it was rent asunder, and shards went flying. In short order, the only thing left in one recognizable piece was the head of the formerly proud machine, clasped between the Cybercursedramon’s jaws. Biting down hard, metal groaned and scraped.
It eventually caved, just as a Gizmon drone appeared and took aim. With it’s guiding mind destroyed, the machine slumped and collapsed like a puppet with it’s strings cut off. Data began to break off of the dead Digimon, seeking to return to Primary Village and start anew…
But she wouldn’t allow it. Not after what had been done. She wouldn’t allow him the chance to grow the same way again. With a howl, the cyborg mentally grabbed hold of the fleeing data… dragging it into herself. There was so much of it, so she was left waiting there a while as her body processed all the data she’d basically consumed from the other digimon, loading it up for herself as she turned and began to tear her way through the base. She was fortunate in two ways by the fact that the place seemed run entirely by Gizmon. There were no others to impair her path, and no more possibly innocent Digimon that could be slaughtered on the way out.
Wall after wall was torn down, and a few times she paused to kill and load some of the Gizmon she was around as a pick-me-up, but soon enough she ripped her way through to the surface, and the monster Cybercursedramon howled hatefully. Pain and suffering, and the best means to inflict both, on her mind, the monster she’d become took off, now running rampant through the Digital World.
