Searching the Mark [Marshal/Invite]

The time was ripe to come true with his promise to his partners. Long ago, two digimon had started a wonderful life together. An Elecmon named Leky and and Impmon named Impy. But, their lives had met a bitter end, being cut down and left to die by a Dinohumon.
Impy and Leky might now be dead, but, the successors of their data were twin digimon named Luke and Bellamy. They remembered. And they would get justice.
But the search would be long and difficult. Aboard Daedalus the AirVessemon, the three of them were joined by their friend Marshal and his partner (who incidentally was Bellamy's loving boyfriend), and of course, Bellamy and Coronamon's son Finn.
Finding Dinohumon was of course no easy matter. A lead from the slums in Terminus had hinted that Dinohumon was last seen heading West into the flatlands. Ironic, it seemed, since Impy and Leky had been killed in the Valley of Dragons.
And so that was where they would be headed. Colin was standing up in the lounge cabin of Daedalus, arms folded. He had changed since his biomerge somehow. Why was that so? He looked slightly older, more battle-worn, and of course, his eyes had changed. Maybe he should look into that?
Bellamy meanwhile was playing with Finn, the Impmon having fun with the Guilmon-X with a board game. It was hard to tell who was winning. But Bellamy was fully paying attention to it, probably to just distract himself.
Luke, meanwhile, couldn't do so as easily. The Elecmon was standing by his partner, blue eyes looking forward. Somehow he had changed a little as well, his legs were a little longer, his blue fur had changed to purple. But the blue scarf he always wore thankfully hadn't changed.
"What are we gonna do if we find him, Colin?" he asked his partner eventually.
"Make him regret what he did" Colin said. "Then punish him. Quickly though".
"I understand..." Luke said, glad that Colin would be acting with the ideals of justice rather than revenge. "Oh yeah, have you told Marshal and Coronamon about it yet?"
"Ah, no..." Colin admitted. "I think we'd better".
They were currently flying over the Folder Desert. It would still be a while before they reached the Valley of Dragons. Colin and Luke approached the other two, wondering how to tell them the story. He had simply asked them to accompany them on a scouting run over the Valley.
"Hiya" he said to them. "Thanks for coming with us. It means a lot".

Marshal and Coronamon were in the Digital World, trying to fine-tune their Biomerge form some more. They had recently gotten into a scrape with Ryouta, who tried to teach them a little more about properly controlling the form, but they were cut short by a surprise attack that left a strange corruption in Coronamon's data. Medical experts in Terminus couldn't find anything alarming about this corruption, though, and it seemed like Coronamon was able to function completely normally, so life continued as normal.
Today, instead of training, they were on a mission with Colin and the twins. They didn't really know everything that was going on, though. They were just happy to have some time with their friends. Marshal was especially interested in Colin's sudden appearance change, which had taken place after the Battle of Whitewater. It was surely a curious thing, as he hadn't changed much after his first Biomerge.
"No problem," Marshal smiled back at the boy. "It's not like we had much else going on, anyway!"
Coronamon was relaxing next to Marshal, but took the opportunity to get some information out of Colin. "So, why are we all the way out here in the desert, anyway?"
Meanwhile, Finn was busy playing chess with Bellamy. Even though he was still literally a child, it looked like he was giving the Impmon a real run for his money! "Haha! This is fun, daddy!" he said innocently as he moved a rook into an advantageous position. At first, it had seemed like he was just moving pieces in a random order, but now it was looking like he was about to win!

Bellamy had been going easy on Finn to start with, simply making non-threatening moves on the chessboard and not playing particularly aggressively. However, as the game continued, Bellamy began to grip his own face a little more with astonishment as Finn's moves became very very clever. He started to make bold moves that was steadily pushing Bellamy's chess army back, and as the pieces left the board, most of them were his.
"Yeesh, I dunno whether to be annoyed or proud of ya" he joked. Although Bellamy never claimed to be very good at chess, he was surprised by the Guilmon's prowess.
Meanwhile, Coronamon asked why they were over the desert. Colin supposed he'd best answer.
"Well, it's a long story" he said, nodding at Luke. "But I suppose it's yours to tell, Luke".
"Thanks" Luke said, sitting down on the sofa opposite them. "So, uh, before Bellamy and I became twins, we were 2 other digimon. I was Leky, and he was Impy. We, uh, looked a bit different, he didn't have fur and I was a bit shorter. But, one day we met, and became best friends".
He supposed he'd best not say that they loved each other, thinking that would be a bit complicated and odd.
"We went on adventures together as two independent digimon" he continued. "I had a job as a courier, you see. Impy meanwhile had been part of a gang of delinquents, and he only wanted to repent for that after he met me. So, he kinda had a lot of enemies because he left.
"Then, after our jobs as couriers wasn't going so swell, we became mercenaries instead, and, we ended up fighting and defeating 2 of Impy's old gang members. So, uh, eventually it became war. We didn't know at the time though. Our last mission as mercenaries had us try and take out a SnowGoblimon in the North, but, he nearly killed us by having us fall into a frozen lake. We would've drowned if a Bearmon hadn't jumped in and saved us. After we got back and managed to defeat the SnowGoblimon, we decided to quit and become Couriers again.
He hoped they were keeping up with this story. Saying it out loud to someone else was certainly a burden on Luke. Bellamy thankfully either couldn't hear them or wasn't reacting. The story wasn't something he was proud of telling.
"Then, uh, when we were doing a run through the valley of dragons, we were ambushed by an enforcer from Impy's old gang, A Dinohumon" Luke said. "And, he... killed Impy and Leky".
Colin patted Luke's back gently, sympathetic to this.
"And, well, Colin found out about it when he biomerged with us" Luke continued. "And so Colin wants to find this Dinohumon and bring him to justice".
Colin nodded at this. "Yeah. Trouble is, we don't have much leads, since this happened a few years ago. All we know is that he was last seen heading West from Terminus City. So, we thought maybe heading over here might help us find something out"
He wondered what Marshal and Coronamon might make of this story.

Marshal nodded and followed along quietly with Luke's story. "Man, that sounds pretty crazy," he admitted. "To have a bond spanning lifetimes like that...you two are pretty amazing!" Meanwhile, Coronamon had suddenly gotten a sharp pain in his temple and cluched his paw to his head. Marshal looked over, worried. "Are you okay, Coronamon?"
Luke's story had triggered something in Coronamon. A flashback, perhaps? It didn't look like any sort of scene he recognized. There were brief visions in his head. A restaurant in Terminus. A crying, drunk Impmon. A bowl of potato soup. He wasn't really able to put any of it together. "I'm...fine," he mumbled. "Just...some kind of vision."
"Come to think of it, you've never told me about your past life," Marshal realized. "Any reason for that? Some sort of dark past you don't want me to know about?"
"I don't remember any of it," Coronamon answered. "I know I had a life before this. All Digimon do, after all. I just don't really have any recollection of it. I wonder if that flash I just had had something to do with it."

Luke chuckled at Marshal's words. "Heh, yeah, I guess it does sound kinda crazy" he said. "I mean, somehow, this time, we ended up hatching from the same egg and became twins. And well, I guess that's why Bellamy looks the way he does".
The Impmon in question was much furrier than normal Impmons. That and his white belly showed there was evidently some Elecmon data in him. Bellamy was currently sweating profusely at Finn's latest move, which threatened the loss of his bishop or checkmate.
"And why you look the way you do too, eh, Luke?" Colin nudged his partner, who smiled. Luke was skinnier and had a a scarf and an Impmon-ish face, only with blue eyes.
"Yeah, I guess" Luke said, nodding. Then Coronamon had a bit of a headache all of a sudden. Colin and Luke looked in concern.
"A vision?" Luke asked, curiously. "What was it? Do you remember?" he was genuinely curious, hoping it wasn't something dire. While normally logical, Luke tended to take things like prescience and phantom memories seriously. Was Coronamon's previous life tied with this and Bellamy's?

Coronamon shut his eyes and tried to piece together what he had seen. "It's pretty fuzzy, but I saw...a restaurant in Terminus. There's a bowl of potato soup in front of an Impmon wearing a jacket. He looks sad for some reason."
Meanwhile, Finn managed to back Bellamy's king into a corner. "Looks like I win!" he said, grinning. He looked over at the other conversation, suddenly interested.
"That's interesting," Marshal admitted. "Hey, Bellamy, you wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?"

"Augh! Seriously?!" Bellamy wailed, leaning back in his seat in frustration as the final blow was dealt. "Heh heh. Wow, Finn, that's the last time I go easy on ya".
This wasn't true, the Impmon loved his son and rewarded him with a delighted, proud cuddle. Bellamy didn't know how this digimon had come into his life, but, he was glad he was. A digimon made from his and Coronamon's love. And he could never be mad at him.
Then Bellamy's attention was called by the others. He looked over at them, being told what they were talking about.
"Know anythin' about what?" he asked, walking over, then Colin repeated Coronamon's words. "Restaurant and..." his green eyes widened. "Oh... oh geez... not my best moment there".
He sighed as the memory of his and Luke's temporary separation came back to him. That was a time when Impy had been selfish and Leky had been upset with him. He was about to tell a story when he put two and two together, looking at Coronamon.
"Babe... was that you at the restaurant?!" he asked, astonished. Had they in fact met in their previous lives? Was that why they had fallen in love so quickly? It made so much sense if that was the case.

The pain in Coronamon's head flared up again for a moment, allowing him to recall a bit more about that night. "I let you stay at my apartment..." he mumbled. "You left, and a few nights later I saw a shooting star." He smiled. "I remember wishing to see you again."
Marshal grinned. "Now, if that isn't the cutest thing I've ever heard in my life, I don't know what is. You guys seriously just briefly met in a past life and now you're together again! And with a kid, no less!"
Finn roared playfully. "Yay!"
Coronamon put his paws up to his temples and rubbed them some more. "That's all I can really remember right now...maybe something else will come up soon?"

Bellamy blinked as Coronamon confirmed it to be true. He looked shocked for a moment, then a smile gradually crossed his face. "Heh. Shoulda thought that might've been it" he said, walking up to him and hugging him. "You were like... the second digimon that was ever really nice to me after Luke. So... thanks".
Hearing this rather surprised Colin. It was a memory not shared with Bellamy since biomerging. But he supposed it was kind of sweet.
"Heh, oh yeah, guess that old jacket is where I got the idea for these things" he plucked at the leather pad over his shoulder, which displayed the red Crest of Tenacity on it. Even if Bellamy and Luke evolved through cards, they still had relevant crests, both of which they wore on their shoulders. He turned back to Coronamon. "And... sorry, for not comin' back. I wanted to, just... yeah" he scowled out the window. "Some bastard took us away".
He then patted Coronamon's shoulder. "It's okay, babe, memories are weird like that" he said, smiling. "I'm sure somethin' will come back to you soon".
With that, they continued on their journey. Daedalus eventually began to slow and descend.
"Beginning the final approach to the Valley of Dragons" he said. "Do you wish to land? Or conduct aerial recon, sir?"
"We'll do some aerial recon first" Colin said. "Best know if there's any bad guys running around".
"Very good, sir" said Daedalus. Meanwhile, Luke glanced at the others.
"I doubt there's much of a chance we'll find much here" he admitted. "But, hopefully we get a clue. The dragon digimon here can get kinda old, maybe they'd know?"
"The dragon digimon that live here are also kinda big douchebags" Bellamy muttered. But, he wasn't scared of them.

Coronamon smiled. He knew his feelings for Bellamy had to have come from somewhere, and perhaps this was the answer he had been searching for. Though he still didn't remember much about his previous life, this small detail ended up playing a huge role in his current life.
A little bit later, Daedalus started to drop into the Valley of Dragons. "Man, we haven't been here since the last time Robyn reappeared," Marshal noted.
"That was the first time I reached Mega level," Coronamon recalled. "I was pretty drained for a while after that."
"I wonder where Robyn is now, anyway," Marshal muttered to himself. He hoped she hadn't gotten herself into too much trouble again. If the threat was anything like the last time, he wasn't sure if he could take the stress! "I was hoping to hear from her again..."
"You could always message her, you know," Coronamon reminded him. "You have that D-Terminal for a reason. You never use that damn thing."
Marshal sighed. "You're right. It's still a little concerning." He decided not to get too in-depth on the subject, but he hadn't really even seen Robyn outside of the Digital World, either. According to their homeroom teacher, she had been extremely with her internship and wasn't able to come to class all that often.
Their reminiscing aside, Marshal and Coronamon snapped back to reality and joined up with Colin and the twins. "So, what's the plan?" the two of them asked at the same time. It sounded just like Apollomon, which was kind of funny considering they hadn't Biomerged yet.

"Oh yeah, I hope Robyn's doing okay" Colin said, remembering her. He hadn't seen her in the digital world since. He hoped that she was going okay, especially since Marshal seemed to like her. Although he wouldn't put his nose into his business.
As they began their aerial recon, Colin turned to Marshal and Coronamon. "So, we're basically going to look at anything suspicious from the air first" he said. "Then if we find something, or someone, we might go down and check it out".
"Yep, not much point landing somewhere and not knowing what's happening" Luke said.
Then, all of a sudden, the cabin shook violently. Colin yelled and staggered, using the back of a chair to keep himself from falling over. Luke was still seated, so he didn't go far. Bellamy landed flat on his face in the middle of the floor though.
"Jesmon christ mode what's happening?!" he asked, rubbing his head, then they saw it. A large serpent-like flying monster shot past the windows, smacking the cabin with its tail. An Airdramon. And a second one appeared to be flying away.
"Airdramon..." Daedalus reported. "As expected, they tend to be territorial..."
"Should we head to the deck and fight them off?" Luke asked, urgently.
"Hmm. It appears to be two Champion level digimon, sir" AirVessemon reported. "My defenses are sufficient to drive them off, but I would advise you hold on to something".
"Man, I hope so" Bellamy muttered, instinctively patting Finn's arm in case he was feeling nervous. This was the first bit of combat that they would experience while actually on board Daedalus.
"Rocket Broadside!" Daedalus cried, and at once, the rocket launchers on his port and starboard launched half a dozen homing missiles each, flying through the air toward both Airdramon. Colin and his partners watched with baited breath, hoping the ride wouldn't be too rough for Daedalus to handle.

Marshal and Coronamon both braced themselves as the two Airdramon attacked. Marshal was about ready to go out there and fight, but Coronamon stopped him. "Might be best to make sure he actually wants our assistance."
Marshal nodded. "Daedalus, you want any backup?" he asked.
Finn, meanwhile, was a little scared, but did his best to be brave! If he freaked out, it might worry his dads! Being on a fighting airship was still incredibly frightening, so the Guilmon gave out a tiny, involuntary whimper as the fight raged on outside.

Daedalus replied through the intercom. "If any more show up, I might, but with current opposition, not to worry". Colin could detect a slight edge and confidence to his usually polite and pleasant voice. "I've dealt with bigger threats as a Blimpmon".
The missiles finally homed in and exploded as six of them struck each Airdramon. The dragon digimon screeched and roared with defiance and desperation. One appeared to have enough, but the other seemed to be charging a flame based attack.
"Staying for round two are you? Very well then" Daedalus said. As a tornado of fire came rushing at him, he rotated his engines, narrowing his eyes as the propellers spun at maximum velocity. "Propeller Wind!"
Twin tornadoes roared from the engines, both dissipating the flames and sending Airdramon into an uncontrollable dive. There was one last final screech as it crashed into the canyon below. It was hard to tell if it survived, but, all that mattered now was that there were no more digimon left to attack them.
"My apologies, I should have been paying closer attention" Daedalus said calmly to those in the cabin. Had he had the capability of doing so, he would be doing the equivalent of straightening his tie after roughing up some ruffians. "My sensors don't work well on cold blooded dragons after all".
"It's fine, Daedalus, that was awesome" Colin said. Luke meanwhile breathed a sigh of relief. Bellamy meanwhile reached up and patted Finn's back, proud of his son for not panicking.
"Very well then. Shall we proceed with our recon?" Daedalus asked.

Marshal sighed. Daedalus was more than capable of taking care of a few Champions, but he was still itching for some action. Though, he was just happy they didn't end up crashing.
Finn, meanwhile, grinned as the fighting concluded. He hadn't panicked! That was good!
Coronamon also breathed a quick sigh of relief. He'd much rather have been in the air himself in case anything went wrong, but he also didn't want to stop on Daedalus' metaphorical toes. The three of them took a moment to collect themselves as they continued their descent into the valley.

"Heh, that's mah boy" Bellamy said to Finn. Such a tough kid. As the state of alert returned to normal, those within the cabin began to settle down again, paying attention to the ground below.
"The initial sweep is complete" Daedalus reported as the reached the end of the valley, thankfully not disturbed. "Have you seen anything of note so far?"
"Well..." Luke said, hesitantly. "I did see familiar things, but, nothing related to Dinohumon".
"Hmm... now that you mention it..." Colin said, looking down at the rock formations. "I think this place does look kinda familiar, which is weird because I've never actually been here". Was that a result of their memories melding with his during the biomerge?
"Well if that's the case, maybe we'll see somethin' if we step out and walk on foot?" Bellamy asked, kind of itching for some action as well. He hadn't set foot in the valley since that day, and woe betide anyone that wanted to mess with him and his family this time around.
"Alright, if you're sure" Daedalus said, and descended to the ground on the edge of the valley. Thankfully the example he set for the other Airdramon was such that he wasn't attacked again. Colin and his partners prepared to disembark. They would return Daedalus to his digimemory when finished, just in case.
Luke stared down the valley path, seeing it like he had seen it so long ago. He trembled a little, shutting his right eye as he felt a phantom twinge of pain, but, that was just a memory. Still though, he appreciated Bellamy's hand on his back. The Impmon didn't say anything, just provided silent comfort, knowing what he was thinking.
"Well... let's take a look" Colin said. "I guess the plan is to see if you can remember anyone here, right?"
"Guess so" Bellamy answered. All they'd need is to trigger a memory. Curious, he looked up at Finn.
"Hey, so, Finn, do you, uh... have any of my memories too?" he asked. Given that the Guilmon was theoretically made from a bit of his data, did some memories get passed on? Or was Finn unfamiliar with this place. He rather hoped it was the latter, he didn't want Finn to feel the pain of what happened here.
