Luke also didn't feel comfortable with what was ahead, but, he had dealt with worse things in his life, and the previous one. In fact he had nearly died by drowning before, and the thought of doing so again, this time in a horrible goo, that wasn't a pleasant feeling. But, still, like Bellamy said, anything didn't feel right, and he'd escape as quickly as he could.
As they carefully headed through the middle cavern, the pitfall was clearly illuminated. Colin and Bellamy walked no further while Luke activated his jets and descended down the vertical tunnel. Only this time... there wasn't any goo, but solid rock.
"The liquid's gone!" Luke called up to his partner and brother above. "It's... changed!"
How could this be? Luke suddenly realized the implications now. This cave could transform. And then he realized how much danger they could be in. One wrong step and the ground beneath them could transform into the goo that had swallowed the Chuumon. This was... horrifying. But, it seemed that they were doing things right so far, given that they were going where the lights were leading them.
As Luke reached the bottom, he touched the floor with his foot, to see if it was also solid rock. It seemed to be. Also, down the bottom, he noticed a flat surface of rock. It seemed to be something akin to a stone lectern. Luke put two and two together. Lecterns were for books. They had a book. Maybe if they put the book here, something would happen?
Without further ado, Luke flew back up and spoke to the others.
"It's solid rock down there, not goo anymore" he said. "This could mean that we have to go where the lights are illuminated, otherwise we could fall into the same goo as that Chuumon did".
"Oh... that's a nice thought there" Bellamy said sarcastically. He hated the thought even more than Luke.
"But, well, I found a lectern down there" Luke continued, turning to K. "So, I'm thinking if we put the book on it, something will happen. What are your thoughts?"

Upon hearing that the goo was gone K blinked a few times, why was it gone? what had caused the goo to recede? was it something dangerous or was it some design they weren't aware of? She didn't like the implications, it felt too much like a trap to her.
Upon Luke returning to the group after a little bit, k rubbed her muzzle and glanced at the book. She didn't seemed terribly pleased with the idea of having to go down there and honestly could you blame here? But as it was the only way forward at the moment they might just have to suck it up and deal with this.
"That's very worrying; but at the same time it gives us a little insight about the goo at the very least."
She'd look down at the book; her frown quick to return and she'd consider briefly of the potential problems that could arise from placing the book. Weighing her options she'd offer the book to luke.
"Put the book on it, if the goo returns you fly as fast as you can back up here. If you have to leave the book there because of that, don't fret."

Luke's journey would be pretty safe this one time around as he descended; there was no indication of there being any or anything that would deter the digimon from going down and placing the book in the lectern.
What happened later, however, was an entirely different story. As soon as the book was in position, it opened with a sudden motion, even if just into the first page.
It was an index of sorts, apparently diving the book into four chapters, even though it didn't tell at which page each chapter began. In fact, besides the way in which the font different between word and word, there wasn't much to appreciate on the first page.
That wasn't all, however. While the book began to open up four small, rocky monoliths began to spring from each corner of the room; they were seemingly made of a very polished, black stone and were more or less two meters high each.

Luke took the book with a nod and returned down the shaft. He carefully placed the book on the lectern, then to his surprise, it opened.
"I hear noises down there, Luke, what's happenin'?" Bellamy called down.
"The book's opened by itself!" Luke called back up. "And... no goo, but, some monoliths have appeared! They don't... seem to be threatening" at least he hoped. He took a closer look at them to examine them for any signs of what they were meant to be. He hoped they weren't there as a kind of trap. All the time he was hovering half a foot from the floor, still a little paranoid.
Luke took a closer look at the book. There seemed to be words in it now. "The book's changed too!" he could see it seemed to be divided into four chapters. He curiously turned through the pages to see if he could read any of it.
"Is it safe though?" Colin asked.
"Yeah, I think so... do you wanna come down and take a look too?" Luke asked.
"I can take ya down" Bellamy offered. If K accepted, Colin would evolve him to Beelzemon, and he would fly down the shaft to carry both K and his partner.

With the safe journey of luke followed by the implication of it on the pedestal the renamon flinched a bit expecting something to actually happen that was far more dramatic than the book opening and some monoliths appearing. She'd blink and consider the options that they had.
They could read the book, or at least attempt to do so. They would after all be able to possibly piece things together if they tried hard enough. The four monoliths seemed to speak to her in some fashion or another. The renamon considered further what they could do. She'd glance at bellamy and dip her head in a nod.
AS she was taken down K inspected the shaft; curious but cautious the whole way. She'd avoid touching the sides of it in fear of something reacting to her very touch. Once she set on the floor she'd continue to the book, looking it over after a few moments before looking at the monoliths. A slow idea seemed to creep into her head and she'd brighten a bit.
"We should read from the book best we can, see if the monoliths react to it. If nothing happens maybe we might need to touch them? Though I'm somewhat skeptical on that part.... They look uh. Dangerous."

At first sight, the monoliths seemed to be just that; polished, almost flawless black stone that stood silently, watching over the four beings that had intruded into the room.
However, that'd change soon enough. As soon as the book began to be read, one of the pillars began to emanate a faint, red glow; the same the letters of the first chapter had. Surprisingly, the book was written in very clean Japanese, and was formatted like a log of sorts.
It began to slowly narrate the adventures of a researcher, somebody who apparently was a recent resident of the Digital World and was marveled by the many wonders found in the world. It stated some perils weathered during his travels, but also the timely help of beings he considered "temporary associates".
There was also a fair amount of interest in the "new world" and its potential, yet some amount of frustration at being unable to muster the power to explore the world in the way they pleased. Yet... there was also excitement; a plan for a possible solution to that inconvenience.
They would need time, though. And to do a fair bit of preparations. That's why they decided to travel to the north.
As the chapter was finished, the pillar began to glow more intensely, reaching a pretty bright shade of red once the last page was turned.

Before long, the lot of them were at the bottom of the shaft. While Colin felt mostly confident with both of his partners at the Mega level, still, there was the claustrophobic properties of the dark cave around them. And the fact that his partners weren't guaranteed to be able to hold on to their forms forever.
Initially, the monolith that shone red when the book was opened drew their attention at once. But Luke and Colin now could see that the book was in perfect Japanese and was delivering quite the interesting story.
"Wait, keep the page there, I'll try to copy it" Luke said. "Colin? You got writing material?"
"Uh, I think so..." Colin said, reaching into his bag and taking out a notepad and pen that he usually used on PROFIT business. Luke took them and quickly wrote a summary of what the book was telling them in point form. So while Colin read it in full, Luke jotted down notes.
Bellamy meanwhile was focused on the glowing red pillar, the Beelzemon's green eyes frowning with concern. "Geez, I hope we don't have a time limit on this" he uttered as he noticed the light was growing brighter. Thus, Colin and Luke turned the page, eager to read more.

As the book was being read, the monoliths underwent a change. The renamon shifted slightly and stared at them; her brows raising slightly. Why was were they glowing? Did they pick the right book for this? Or was this simply just another warning?
K shifted slightly flicking her ear a little bit; she wasn't sure how long they had to read this book nor did she really like the red glow that they were being bathed in. She could only imagine what the book read as she was more worried about the location they simply were. There was a soft sigh and she'd turn to the others.
"Hopefully this information will be useful, I wonder what it has to do with this place though..."
The renamon rubbed her muzzle and watched the others interact with the book. She was a little surprised at the content that was in the book; as she figured that they wouldn't of been able to read it. Hadn't it been ineligible earlier? Or perhaps it was with being put on this pedestal that they could read it? Just how old was this place anyways? There was a million and a half questions she had but none of them seemed to be getting answered. She didn't mind it so much but it didn't help her be any less nervous...
"If we do.. well. We'll just have to fly out right?"
The renamon shifted and turned her head to look upwards, she didn't like the idea of a time limit and it being brought up didn't really help them... But it certainly did make them have to work a little faster right? So far this had been a pleasant experience but she felt like that was going to change soon.
"The red light doesn't seem to be malicious or anything like that... Don't suppose one of you can sense energy?"

Thus far, the group was being fairly successful at what they were doing; Luke was able to quickly write what the tale thus far was about, and soon enough, Colin and Luke found themselves reading the second chapter; as they did, another of the monoliths began to glow on the same light than the ink used; a deep blue hue that began to become stronger and stronger as the time went by.
It spoke about a journey to the north, and a good deal of excitement about it. For some reason, the writer believed that the key to every question they had was there. However, it also spoke about how cold and inclement Northern Prominence could be, and how the blizzards could cut into one's skin as if it were no one's business.
Yet, they were determined to succeed. Eventually, they found a place where they could establish themselves: a small, isolated cabin that was in the middle of nowhere. Its previous occupant? Either absent or nonexistent at the moment.
Next, they began to explain what were they hoping to achieve; basically, they wanted to understand how digimon worked, what made them tick and how to exploit their unique qualities for the good of all humanity.
And, just like that, the chapter came to an sudden end.

While he was jotting down notes, Luke had the feeling of excitement at the discovery of it all. "Gosh, this must be what it was like when you humans found the Rosetta Stone, eh, Colin?" he asked, referring to the highly significant discovery of the stone that unlocked the key to translating ancient languages.
"Well I don't think it was anything as strange as this..." Colin replied, chuckling nervously. He was more preparing for the moment when everything might go wrong, but, it seemed to be holding up so far.
K wondered what the information was and how it would be useful to this place. Bellamy thought on that and came up with a suggestion shortly after. "Maybe it's got to do with the legends that the Baromon guy was talkin' about?" he asked. "Oh, right, yeah, we gotta face him again when we get outta here don't we?" he added as an awkward afterthought. Maybe this information would prevent him scolding them? Although... well... wait why was he anxious about that?
K then asked if the next part of the plan was to simply fly out. "That seems to be what we need to do..." Luke answered. Since both he and Bellamy could fly, that shouldn't be a problem. As long as their evolutions held at least.
K then asked if either of them could sense energy. To this, the twins shook their heads. "My third eye's meant to sense anythin' weird, and I can't say I can figure out what's happenin' down here with the energy" he answered.
Colin and Luke meanwhile were paying attention to the story that was being revealed, with Colin reciting the words and Luke transcripting. The tale seemed to be from a researcher that established themselves in the Northern Prominence, who wanted to research the way digimon worked, and how they could work with them for the benefit of humanity. Then, all at once, the chapter ended.
"So... wait... a human wrote this?" Bellamy asked, somewhat bewildered. He had been convinced that the humans were the least magical beings ever, yet, somehow they had made this happen.
"Well... I think this is about all the information we can get down here..." Luke remarked, pocketing the notebook within his armor. "I guess we need to get back to the surface, right?"
With that, Luke and Bellamy would hold on to Colin and K, ready to fly back up through the vertical shaft and back toward the surface. Hopefully the issue with the earthquakes would no longer be a problem.

"Rosetta stone? What's that?"
K looked between colin and his digimon; a mix of concern and confusion on her face. Was that some sort of human artifact or something? She'd furrow her brow just a little bit and lean to look at the book as colin seemed to almost be done with the book.
"It could do with the legends but... That seems a little odd doesn't it? In context at least. Why would he need to guard something relevant to humans? Why even keep it here? How old is it?"
The renamon rubbed her muzzle curiously and looked at the twins as they both shook their heads. Something about their third eye but apparently it wasn't really doing them any favors.
She'd frown slightly and lean to look at the book. She didn't feel like it was done yet honestly and that seemed rather odd to her that a digimon book would have information relevant to humans in it. Especially something so old.
"We do.. but.. I can't help but feel that this isn't over."
The renamon looked baffled but wouldn't resist Luke and Bellamy as they got ready to fly up the shaft again. Did they miss something? Or was this really just it?
"I hope he has some answers..."

Despite the two chapters left unread, the group decided now was time to call off their expedition. That was fine; the two monoliths were still faintly glowing in their respective colors, and their ascent, even if slow, would prove to be pretty safe.
Upwards, everything was just as they had left them, the rooms not changing a bit since the last time they had seen them. There wasn't much else to be said, besides the insides of the complex being maybe even more silent than usual. Maybe something had decided to stalk the foursome? Unlikely, given the number of precautions that the group had taken.
Back in the surface, the Baromon would be waiting by its entrance, his expression being both as passionate and slightly doubtful as always. For the moment, however, the digimon seemed to not be aware of the approaching beings.
Maybe the group should make themselves present? Or maybe not yet?

As they began to make their return from the cavern, Colin was going over the notes that he had just transcribed. It seemed all well and true, but, his red eyes frowned as he reached the end.
"Hey, Luke..." he said to his partner. "When you finished there... are you sure that was all that there was?"
There was a small pause as Luke considered what his actions were. He admitted deep down that he was terrified of seeing Colin disappear into goo like the Chuumon had, so, perhaps he may have been a little too quick to call a quits to it.
"There... may have been more" he admitted. Bellamy then shot him a foul look.
"Luke, you're my brother, and I love you, but, you lied to Colin. That's freakin' not cool" he spat. Luke glared back initially, but, realized that these words were true. He just wanted Colin removed from danger, he supposed, and an early exit would have helped, but, he supposed in the end that it was all inevitable. They needed to go back for the true story.
"Sorry, everyone" Luke said, his ears drooping down in shame. "I just... wanted to get out of here. I didn't want you to die like the Chuumon did"
"Well... that's understandable" Colin said, gently reaching up to pat the Fulminomon's face. "Just don't lose faith in us okay, Luke?"
These words struck well with the digimon. And so, before they would enter the world outside, they would double back and return to the chamber below, prepared to resume the reading of the texts. The whole time, Luke was praying that his error hadn't doomed them. But, for the meantime, he would read and Colin would transcribe the second chapter.

K scratched her muzzle, looking really confused about the whole episode. If that was all that it took to stop the earthquakes why had the Baromon made such a big fuss about this? She didn't really understand those mystical type digimon all too well honestly.
The renamon paused however as they neared the exit of the area. She'd turn her head and blink a little bit as one of the twins admitted that there may have been more to the book. She couldn't honestly blame the idea of leaving there early; but didn't they come in there to do something anyways? Wouldn't that of just made it problematic in the future. She'd let out a soft but gentle sigh and turn about; rubbing her muzzle still.
She'd of course tag along with these three, admitting to herself that she had been less useful in this endevour than she would of liked. But at the same time she wanted to see it through; she wanted to see what this big fuss was about and of course she'd have a few words to say to Luke.
"It's all right I can't really blame you there. Entire place is surprisingly nerve wracking.
K of course would stick close to the group as a whole; she was ultimately more and more curious about this book that they were transcribing. If this was really written by humans just how deep did human interaction with the digital world go? If this was really an ancient text just how long had the humans been around in this place?
"I wonder if there are other places like this... human interaction with the digital world isn't something I'm terribly familiar with. Have you three seen something along these lines before?

A timely comeback, wasn't it? Time to go back to the story at hand. This would be the third out of four chapters the book had.
Just like the other chapters, as Colin began to read it, another pillar began to pulsate, this time with yellow light. Primary colors, weren't they? In any case, this time the story took a tone a little more... unsettling.
It began to tell how this human had been tremendously successful, at least by his standards. They had managed to, at least in their words, to replicate Digital life and to 'enhance' it, whatever that meant. They commented how this place had a certain amount of mysticism that made everything possible. Or maybe they were delirious.
In any case, they note about an impending need to expand their laboratory in order to host all their 'magnificent' creations, and talk about how they carved this mountain in order to host the greatest menagerie the Digital World has ever witnessed. Not even the sky was the limit; they were capable of doing anything.
As the pillar began to resonate with the other three, the ground below the group began to move slowly for... a couple of seconds. A small opening below had been unveiled, even though it wasn't big enough for any being present to enter. If gazing there, one could recognize a tranquil green expanse, with nothing else than long blades of grass at the distance.
There was only one chapter left, and if common sense was accurate. The path below would be fully opened once read. Did the group want to, however?
