Destiny Waits for No One (Private)

Most would believe that a dump that used to be a river was an odd place to look for inspiration for drawing. Yet there the girl was, her long brown hair tied into a single ponytail behind her while she sketched away at a pad in her hands. She was kneeling down just far enough from the river to escape its ghastly smell from the build up of trash there.
Most of the smell anyway, if she breathed in too deep Hitomi Ryuuana could still take in quite a lot of stench. In her book was the image of a poisonous swamp, with metal arms bubbling up from the surface of the sludge. She always took any excuse to draw. This was one of them.
She first discovered this river by eagerly running down to it, expecting a sparkling river as she had "overheard" from her new classmates in the area. In truth they were speaking just a little too loud for the conversation to be entirely private. As a former resident of Hakone she knew what a beautiful river looked like. This was not even close. She was bitterly disappointed.
She sighed, stretching her agile fingers as she felt a cramp beginning to develop. At least this area remained mostly deserted. She wasn't sure if it was the smell...or the rumours she also heard on an occasion.
Apparently people just...appeared and disappeared at will here for some unknown reason. Though she had no reason to believe it was real. In her mind it was just to assert the claims of things moving in the water.
Maybe she could sketch the phenomenon later.

It wasn’t like anyone would willing come by this place, right? It was a fairly safe place to port to. It was about time she came back anyways. The spirit user huffed softly in annoyance as she lifted her D-Scanner. It wasn’t that long ago, but with what had happened it felt like a lifetime had passed between her first day and now...
”Do you... regret anything, Alicia...?” Kisara asked in concern, sending the sensation of setting a hand lightly on the redhead’s shoulder out of concern.
“... I’m not sure, really... I suppose that’ll depend on whether I can find myself again or not...” the bearer of Steel answered back as she slashed a portal into existence before her.
To a certain sketcher’s viewpoint, it would be as if the sky before her had split open in a soft white with rainbow highlights, forming a circular portal into another realm which a young woman had stepped through. Hair like fire, and a long scarred over line on her cheek lent her a potentially fierce visage for a first impression. Such was only marred by the fact that she seemed to keep her right arm and left leg oddly bandaged from finger to should and toe to hip.
”Oh dear...” Sol began, noticing their miscalculation before anyone else did.
“Wh-” Having taken a step, she now literally stood between two worlds, and looked over, spotting the artist and freezing. “... Ah...” There was no possible way she couldn’t have been seen. No one was blind enough to miss a Digiport opening if they were staring at it... Alas, she could not think of a response, so she went quiet.

Hitomi in nature was drawn to the lights that happened above her, curious as to why it was happening in the early afternoon. If it was in the later evening and night the wannabe artist wouldn't have even bat an eye at this. But no one was insane enough to be in this place at night. It would almost be begging for a mugging to happen.
And yet there the phenomenon was, happening right in front of her. A collection of rainbow and white light that hovered over her world like the light of God. She could almost see the realm that lay behind, if there wasn't a woman who stepped through and quickly blocked it.
It never took much to scare Hitomi, as someone who was so introverted and shy many things could cause her to jump and scream at the drop of a hat. This...was just a little bit extreme. It made so little sense as to what she was seeing the teenager could not help but drop her book and pencil and jump back with a terrified shriek coming out of her mouth.
Hitomi equally had absolutely no clue what she was supposed to say either, this was just too abnormal. She would have turned and ran, but her sketchbook was still lying on the grass in front of her and her legs seemed to be rooted to the floor, refusing to let her move. She just endured a long silence, before finally she found her words again.
"WHAT?!" Was all she had the mental cohesion to scream at the other girl. Clearly she had never heard of the Digital World or any of the phenomena associated with it. Otherwise she wouldn't react in the manner she just did.

Alicia winced as the other girl howled with shock and confusion. Yup, definitely someone who, before now, had no idea what the Digital World was about. “P-Please calm down! Er...” How could she spin this to something believable that would also not completely shatter this poor girl’s world view.
”Stop trying Alicia. Artists like her are almost impossible to trick into thinking something isn’t what it actually is...” Kisara mused as she phased into view, a frosty, light blue robed woman who was as transparent as a spirit. Which, Hitomi would probably find out soon, she most certainly was.
“Mmmmph...” Alicia in turn was not happy about that, stepping the rest of the way into the human world and sighing as she took a seat on the edge of her portal. It was hardly the intended use, but whatever works. “Typical I’d blunder like this...” she grumbled to herself.
”It’s gonna be a long night indeed...” Kisara mused as she slowly took steps towards the startled artist. ”Easy now... let’s not cause too much of a fuss, alright? People will get the wrong idea of a chance meeting like this.” Smiling, the ice maiden reached a hand forward in an offer for a friendly shake. ”The name’s Kisara. And you are...?”
Somehow, Alicia figured this was going to blow up even more spectacularly than it already had...

What was it that the people at Aegis had told her? Don't cause a ruckus and everything would be fine. Have this holosuit so you wouldn't cause a scene; and don't digivolve in public. Then there was the sleugh of rules that she had to read about general public decency along with other more trivial things. Most of them just didn't make sense to her but if she was to be in the human world she'd have to abide by these rules and laws.
K leaned over a railing and stared idly into the river, frowning slightly as she saw some trash float by. It was a pity really and she wished that she could do more here for this place; it must of been quite fetching years ago before all the filth. The holosuited digimon was reminded curtly of the Terminus location that was full of Numemon; but rather than being full of trash it was quite... barren of the stuff. After all Numeon did eat trash along with regular foods.
Thus the stink. which she thankfully didn't have much of a nose compared to others of her digital likeness. Her thoughts were quickly interrupted by what could only be described as a scream of surprise. It was abrupt; quick and faded just like most but it left a sour note in the air. The only sort that the Shutmon had for the most part associated with things that shouldn't be... and that only meant one thing in the line of thinking she had.
There was either a digimon or something of it's ilk here and she wasn't about to have a major incident unfold right in front of her and do nothing about it. She was quick to trot towards where the scream had come from. It took her maybe a few minutes to actually get where she had thought it had come from.
If she had full blown sprinted towards it she would of made humans suspicious of her as she could run much faster than most humans could even dream of. It might even make it impossible for the holosuit to keep up and therefore would of rendered it moot. But she doubted that...
And arrive on the scene she did, seeing what amounted to two humans, one of which looked rather terrified and the other.. seemingly beyond calm. Both of which were for the most part sitting very close to a portal to what she could only guess? Was the digital world. Gritting her teeth she'd trot up to the duo and politely inquire...
"Is there a problem here? You know others shouldn't see that portal right?"

Things began tearing her perceptions of reality apart, and it was only slowly descending from there. She was surely going mad, had her own crippling mental hurdles finally caught up to her and now she was hallucinating in a form that was definitely blatant schizophrenia. Her mind was tearing itself apart trying to find an explanation.
Hence why she had not spoken or even moved until a transparent woman that just seemed to radiate the energy of cold approached her, trying to calm her down and offer a gesture of friendliness. A simple handshake. Forgive the teenager for looking skeptical at the gesture...
But she was staring at a transparent ice warrior. The questions were just growing more and more as time went on. Even so, she found herself hesitantly going for a response to the handshake, though it was also difficult to tell if she was actually going to shake the Spirit's hand or see if she would go straight through her like an actual ghost.
Then another voice cut across them, sounding less than happy about the situation that had been presented to them. Hitomi seized up and stared at the new arrival. Apparently who or whatever it was had not been made fully aware of what humans called the uncanny valley. Even if it looked human she could almost tell something was...off about them. Maybe she wouldn't have even spotted this if it wasn't for the portal and the girl talking to transparent alien spirits like it was a normal every day occurrence.
Then the new arrival mentioned how a portal should not be opened in front of "others". Before she even knew it questions were pouring out of both her expressions and her mouth at a rate almost too fast to interpret them properly. "Who-are-you-people-what-is-going-on-why-are-you-doing-this-what-did-I-just-get-myself-into-why-why-who?! SOMEONE JUST TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON!"

Things have reached critical mass it appears. What with a new, clearly holosuited being entering the area and misinterpreting the situation entirely. To disastrous results, it seemed as the artist started babbling in everyone’s general direction.
“it’s not like I intended to show the portal to someone!” Alicia shot back to the new comer with a grumble. “I specifically ported in near here because there’s rarely ever anyone around! And then to my terrible luck, here she was! The damage has already been done...”
”Haa... I suppose it was too much to ask for that to be enough to calm her down... Sol, dear? We’re in need of your assistance...” The ice maiden spoke softly and took a few steps back.
In response, with a heavy sigh Alicia’s other advisor manifested himself, a large and armored humanoid dragon scratching his head with a set of claws. ”You guys are far too reliant on me...” he muttered before taking a seat on the ground and focusing his gaze on Hitomi.
”Well, since Fate is conspiring to drag you into this, here’s the quick rundown. There’s another world mirroring this one, the connection between them being the computers of the modern age. Thus, it’s called the Digital World for short. Alicia here-” He paused, jabbing a thumb at the redhead to indicate who Alicia was. ”is one such human who leads a double life on both this side and the Digital side. We didn’t intend to shatter your perception of reality like this, but, again, Fate is conspiring against our efforts. You technically haven’t gotten into anything yet. You can get up, walk away, and pretend this never happened, and everything should be more or less back to normal for you.”
Alicia hummed as she rested her chin on her hands, giving a sigh afterwards. “Sol... I can tell you’re thinking of continuing.
”It’s only fair that she has all her options laid before her.” the dragon spirit replied without looking. ”Anyways. Seeing as this has occurred? Perhaps your life can have something more wild in it. Perhaps there is a second life to lead on the other side as well. I’ll make sure Alicia leaves her number with you so you can call her, should you decide you want to explore the possibilities.”
Sol hummed nodding as he now finished. Then he looked up and over to K. ”I do hope that wasn’t suggested for you, ma’am. That is a terrible disguise that looks like it came out of some freelancer’s manga...” He wasn’t impressed by the uncanny valley look either, and quirked an eyebrow at the disguised Shutmon.

K scratched her head a little bit and found her brow raising. This holosuit was unlike her last one and had a face along with a full range of facial features. Making her seem more human but ultimate the strange design of the individual that she had picked garned results she wasn't expecting.
Ontop of it, her reaction to both the situation and portal was somewhat... Lacking. One of the humans didn't respond to it too well and seemed to panic even further. She'd frown slightly and find her arms going crossed. This was much more than what she had intially thought and that was certainly saying something! When the other said that they weren't intending to show the portal to someone she'd huff and shake her head.
"With all the trash here I don't really blame you. But with this your going to have to find a new location."
She'd exhale slowly and found that her frown had vanished. How would she explain this to a human that hadn't a clue about the digital world or anything within it? To them this would absolutely look odd.
Though before she could really explain anything one such humanoid spirit manifested and started to explain out what had occured along with a basic run down of things. Much quicker and to the point than she ever could manage. Even with her mass of experience in the digital world she would struggle to really explain it to an outsider. When addressed by the Dragon however she'd shrug.
"No it was one of my own choice. Last one was so generic that it didn't even really have a face. Hard to really fit in when you lack a facial expression. And I wouldn't call it terrible; just out of sorts I suppose."
K would scratch her neck a little bit and glance at the other human, frowning slightly again. With a small huff; she'd tap her temple and consider something before speaking.
"Ultimately he's not wrong, but either choice comes with inevitable consequences. People will never believe you if you walk away and those that do won't do much about it. If you go in, there's no real expectation of you, a path untraveled and all choices ultimately will be your own. And whatever partner you may end up with."

Hitomi could do nothing in response except silently try to absorb the information she was being given by these beings around her. So there was an entire alternate reality that she and most likely a huge chunk of the human race were all blissfully unaware of and young people such as herself were the only ones who knew and even frequently crossed the worlds at their leisure? And apparently all of this was created by the wonders of computers and the freaking internet!
She would never have even considered this was possible, it sounded like it came out of a sci-fi fantasy anime. But this only succeeded in making her feel like a character in an anime herself. What was her life even coming to this was ridiculous! But she was just standing there without any input!
It seemed essentially that she was being offered a choice, walk away and pretend it never happened. Very appealing. Or take this chance encounter all the way and become another person leading a double life of jumping between realities at will alongside a monster.
As much as her objective reasoning of why this was an astronomically bad idea screaming at her, another part was beginning to come to light. She was curious, she couldn't help but be fascinated by the prospect and the concept of a brand new part in her life. Maybe...maybe this could be a chance. The irrationality of why she felt this way was stupendous, but it was quite strong in her. Almost like this was meant to happen and it was an opportunity she was meant to take on.
She heard a term made by the not-quite-human being next to her. Her face finally morphed from one of general fear and anxiety into one of more mild confusion and curiosity. "Partner?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.
Of all the things she could be asking about it just had to be that. She felt like kicking herself.

Alicia hummed softly, listening to the banter between everyone. Once again, though, Sol seemed to have come to the rescue, defusing a potentially devastating scenario. She could only imagine how bad it could’ve gotten if the artist had run away screaming. She glanced over to K and quirked an eyebrow at her response to Sol, but otherwise didn’t comment.
”I’ll leave that one be, then...” Sol muttered to himself, refocusing on the task at hand. Fortunately, Hitomi seemed more curious than anything else now. And she even asked about a term the holosuited Digimon had used. So Sol took it upon himself to explain again.
”Partner, yes. The Digital World is populated by creatures known as Digital Monsters, Digimon for short. Should you decide to take a step into the other side, you may find your destiny tethered to one such Digimon, who will either find you or be found by you at an appropriate time and become your destined partner. That’s just one way things can manifest though. In another scenario, you might find yourself leading an entire miniature troop of Digimon. Or you could wind up in a similar case to Alicia’s.”
Alicia perked up at that, humming. “I’d offer to demonstrate what he means, but right now I’m in a bit of a pickle myself on that regard... the only thing I have available is not a form I want to use in the Real World. The short of it, though, is that instead of having any partnered Digimon, I actually use the power of ancient spirits to transform into a Digimon myself. It’s... led to it’s fair share of troubles, though.”
Sol nodded and snapped his fingers. ”Indeed. Digidestined, Xros General, or Spirit Wielder. Those are the possibilities that lay before you. You won’t know which one you are though until you first receive or otherwise acquire your digivice, though. It is another question that can only be answered by changing your life forever. It’s a massive choice, though, please do not make it in haste.”
Kisara hummed, having placed herself at Sol’s side, nodding along with what he said. ”A final note though. The Digital World can be a very dangerous place. Before your path is revealed to you, you should stay with someone who’s got a fair amount of fire power who cares enough to safeguard you. But that assumes you go head long into this, of course.”

K wasn't terrible bothered with how this was turning out, honestly she didn't really even need to explain too much with the way things were panning out. Whoever this spiritual dragon was certainlyw as doing it better than anyone she could figure could. Maybe just shy of how she was explained to about the human world.
Once again she didn't really have much to add to this, at least there wasn't much she could add about the different types of digitally gifted humans. In fact here she was learning about another; a large group of digimon that accompanied a single human? Xros General? That seemed al ittle far fetched but she couldn't really pass the opportunity to learn more about those.
"Can't really say I've heard about Xros General's. Spirit wielders and Destined seem to be a little more common."
She'd quirk an eyebrow and find herself frowning at the Alicia mentioning that she was in somewhat of a pickle. Being only able to take the form of something she'd much rather not. Along with her description of what it meant to be a spirit wielder? Caused the digimon to tilt her head and consider briefly asking what she meant by that.
The way that the one human reacted to everything though, made the digimon honestly question the humans in general. Rather than being fearful [past the initial stages] there was curiousity. No wonder many digimon considered these beings to be dangerous....
"Kind of hard to do that though when you're just getting your feet put on the ground with this whole ordeal that and.. well they don't have a device yet either. Considering how this was lain out wouldn't it behoove either of us to assist them until such a time when they do have a partner of sorts? Not necessarily drop everything mind you."
K's eye's would flick to Hitomi then back to Alicia and she'd exhale softly. Realizing they had likely skipped introductions properly she'd put out a soft attempt at learning names. Now that the one human had.. Well. Stopped panicking as much.
"The name's K. What's yours?"

As she listened to the explanation of what a Digimon Partner was, Hitomi felt an interesting conflict arise in her head at the same time, barking at each other like an active debate. Something she rarely experienced.
A partner (or multitude of them according to whatever a Xros General happened to be) sounded wonderful to have, but at the same time she could not deny that Hitomi would feel guilty about a monster having to defend her constantly. Having to be fought for half the time. But if some of these monsters were as dangerous as her wild imagination was leading her to believe than this scenario might not be avoidable anyway.
"I...I don't know about this." She admitted with a shake of her head. "On one hand, I know walking away and pretending this never happened will be...something I will come to regret in the future. But on the other it sounds like I'll be throwing myself into danger for no discernible reason, as well as my potential partner. If I even have such potential that is. It's not like I was even called specifically in the first place." She was trying to think it through reasonably. As reasonably as she could with the subject they were talking about. Besides, she didn't like fighting or putting herself and others in danger without any real justification for it.
She heard the not-quite-human introduce itself as K. A bit of an odd name but she didn't feel any need to point it out. It may be personal and there was no need to intrude on that. "I'm Hitomi. Hitomi Ryuuana." She introduced herself with a polite bow. "It's nice meeting you, K."

”Indeed. Xros Generals are fairly rare...” Sol noted with a nod to K. ”But they are out there, just like the other types.”
”Yup. Very dangerous. That’s why Alicia was going to be giving her a number to contact her by. We’re not gonna just drop all this on her and then say ‘See ya, you’re on your own’.” Kisara then quipped, smirking. ”We’re a fair bit more responsible than that.”
Alicia hummed and then jumped from her seat and walked over to Hitomi, keeping her bandaged right arm towards the artist. “If you want my advice? Walk away for now. Think it over very hard. And only when you’ve fully resolved to change your life forever or not should you make a call. I made mine in haste and have been on the back foot for most of my time. And it led to a personal disaster.”
The bandaged arm shifted a bit, which was Alicia’s indication that said disaster involved something life changing occurring on that limb. “But know this. You’re not entirely safe in this world either. If you really are destined to be a part of the Digital World, you’ll start seeing Digimon even hear. Your partner might even be sent to you directly by some method. Or worse, you’ll get caught by a bio-emerging Digimon that is hostile.”
”Alicia...” the ice maiden began with a bit of apprehension in her voice. However, she fell silent after that. It’s not like it was right to keep that information from Hitomi... Anyone faced with this choice should know everything they can learn.
“Oh... yeah actual proper introductions...” the Spirit Wielder muttered as K and Hitomi exchanged names. “I’m Alicia Westfield. The dragon spirit is Sol, and the ice woman is Kisara. They’re kinda like advisors for me.” The redhead inclined her head a bit, and held her left hand out to the artist. “Sorry for all the grimness...”

K ran a hand over her neck and found herself frowning. A group of digimon attached to a single human? That weren't twins? She wasn't so sure about this but honestly she had no real reason to doubt the spiritual dragon in any fashion. Spirits were spirits for a reason and often had wisdom enough to share.
"Will have to keep my eyes open for them, Got me a bit curious to say the least."
The other spirit said that they were likely going to give Hitomi their contact information or rather a number to get contacted with. The digimon found herself frowning a little bit as she ultimately didn't have a way that they could contact her easily.
That would be frustrating expecially if Alicia didn't pick up or was busy. There wasn't much she could do about that immediately but with a small shrug and ear rub the digimon considered the ideal options for this whole thing. Walking away for now would give them time to get perspective as well as figuring out what they actually want... Along with a whole scope of other options. The disguised shutmon winced at the mention of a biomerging digimon
"....getting caught by a biomerged digimon would definitely put a damper on things... But at the same time, there's at least a group that would be able to handle that in some fashion."
She'd exhale a little bit and shake her head; raising both brows when Hitmoi properly introduced herself. The shutmon would return the bow and give her a small smile.
"Likewise. If you ever need anything and happen to be in the area of the train station that's more or less where I've made my roost for the time being. It's also probably the only way to get in actual contact with me seeing as I lack a proper communication device for the moment."
She'd chuckle lightly and turn to look at the spirit wielder. Alicia Westfield? That was an awfully interesting name and the digimon stroked her chin thoughtfully. "Hitomi Ryuuana and Alicia Westfield. Interesting names the both of you. Is there some reason for humans to have two names?"

At least Hitomi did have a phone, or else she would be right up a certain creek with a foul name without a paddle if it came to needing either of her new friends for help or telling them she decided she wanted to explore the new world available to her. She exchanged numbers with Alicia, giving her own in return and saving the female's number to her cellphone.
"I'll give it as much time as I can think to afford." In hindsight she was quite happy that was the answer she got because Alicia's little horror story about rushing into the Digital World immediately was more than enough for even the most reckless of individuals to create second guesses about what they were doing. Hitomi looked away form thebandaged arm out of respect. "Whatever happened, I can tell its very personal so I won't intrude and...thank you for warning me." She said in response. Änd I don't mind the grimness, it's everything I can learn in this kind of situation right?" She asked.
Somehow she was adjusting to this faster then she believed she could. It was weird. Perhaps it was just that kind of thing, she threw out her disbelief because clearly it had no respectable place here. She was kind of talking to a pair of Spirits and a monster made out of data disguised as a human from what she could tell.
K was...somewhat available to talk to as well seemingly. He was going to be a bit more difficult to reach, but he was around the Shibuya train station. Now if only she could get through the crowds there without tripping over her own feet. And upon his inquiry on humans having two names Hitomi was happy to explain. "Well when humans began to live in large communities together a second name was needed in order to be able to distinguish eachother. The second name often relates to the family we come from." She explained, then blinked. "...sorry I do that a lot."
Something however, was glinting from a pile of trash, it looked like an older model of a Digivice, broken and most likely unusable.
