Separation anxiety [Colin]

The three of them headed through the strange, decrepit city in silence, all three of them seemingly rendered speechless by this minor disaster. Carlos didn't seem to be handling things well, and Colin didn't blame him. While he still had Luke, Carlos was all alone. And because of this, Colin would make sure he and Luke would protect him, no matter what, until he found his partner again.
Colin then turned to Luke, who was also silent as the night. While the Elecmon seemed stoic to start with, he noticed that he trembled every so often, which seemed like he was suppressing something. After helping Luke up a pile of rubble and down again onto the next rubble strewn street, he decided to speak.
"Everything okay, Luke?" Colin asked his partner, gently.
"...no" Luke admitted, sounding like he was holding back tears. "My little brother's out there somewhere and... I just feel so powerless".
These words surprised Colin somewhat. "...little brother?" he repeated. "No offense, Luke, but..."
"Yeah, I know" Luke cut his partner off. "Bellamy's taller and acts more confident, but... that's not the whole story of us, you know? Since Ryu died... there's some things that Bellamy can't handle. And now, he's out there all by himself, I don't know if he's alright or not..."
Colin stiffened at that mention. Yes, Bellamy had taken that particular disaster quite hard. But still, he could tell that Luke's fears weren't really justified.
"Hey, Luke, speaking as a certified little brother, I don't think you have to worry that much" Colin assured him. "Yeah, Bellamy was pretty upset about that, but, I think he can handle himself alright in most situations. Just trust in him, okay?"
"...yeah" Luke admitted, seeming embarrassed now. "Sorry, just... I'm really worried about him too".
"I know. Just hang in there, okay?" Colin said. Then he decided to try and help out Carlos too. "Bellamy might wear his feelings on his sleeve, but, I think he can take care of things until we find him. And he should help keep Dio safe too".
Colin was glad that Bellamy had at least tried to make it up with the other Impmon. And that at least reassured him that they weren't flinging fireballs at each other. With this in mind, he turned to Carlos.
"I'm really sorry this happened to you, we should've taken more precautions" he said. "We seem to be getting closer at least".
Meanwhile, Bellamy was struggling to think what his elder brother would do if he was here. Even if Bellamy acted a bit like a cocky little brat, he still admired Luke for his ability to operate under stress and keep plans alive, but, he wasn't here, so, he had to think on what his Aniki would do here. And the first thing was simply keep calm, well, that was alright, there wasn't any immediate danger. And the next would be to calmly follow procedure.
After they spoke to the Shamamon, Bellamy found he agreed that he was rather unhelpful. Then Dio mentioned that he came from the Dark Area. This immediately drew Bellamy's interest. "You came from there?" he asked, intrigued, so much so that he let the 'furball' insult to the side. "Huh. Wonder what that's like?" he ventured further out of curiosity, but, not directly, realizing it might not be the ideal moment to speak about such things. For now they should think of a way to get back to their partners.
What would the procedure be? Bellamy thought, then came across an idea.
"Hey, Dio, I just thought of a way we might be able to help our partners find us" he said. "But... it might be risky. Basically, both of us fling fireballs into the air every so often, maybe that might tell 'em where we are if they're close enough".
He waited for Dio's opinion on this. The downside would be that they could draw less friendly digimon toward them. Trouble was, where should they go after that? Bellamy didn't know which way was what down here. Should they stay put and send out flares? Or travel around and hope for the best?

Honestly, hearing Luke’s heartfelt fears about the safety of his brother made Carlos feel even worse, as he still felt somewhat responsible for this whole incident somewhat. Not their carelessness had he separated a tamer from his partner, it had also split two dear brothers apart. Talk about a guilt double whammy. He felt that he should be saying something, anything to try to help out, but knew it was probably better to leave that between tamer and partner.
That said, hearing Collin try to keep everyone’s hopes up was rather admirable, specially coming from someone that young. As soon as he mentioned how Dio would be safe as long as he was with Bellamy, Carlos smiled a bit, nodding back to Collin both in agreement and as if thanking him for keeping the group from succumbing to despair. He was rather good at this pep talk business.
“Thanks, but dude, really, don’t apologize, it’s not like any of us could have seen this coming.” He reassured Collin his calm demeanor slowly returning. “Still I can't help but get this feeling that this is at least partially my fault. I mean, if we had gone each our own way maybe this wouldn’t have happened at all. Or at least maybe whoever got lost would have gotten lost with his own partner.” Which in all honesty, if he and Dio had been the ones transported, would it have really changed things much? It’s not like the two of them could get any more lost than they already were.
Unlike Bellamy, Dio clearly didn’t seem particularly worried about being separated from Carlos. Was he worried? A bit, yeah, admittedly, but he would never admit it out loud, he was too proud for that. He knew however that his tamer wasn’t on his own right now, and that (as much as it hurt his pride to admit it) he was probably safer than usual now that he was with Collin and Luke, considering they were apparently already able to evolve further than the rookie stage.
So at present, he was mostly focusing on keeping himself alive. And he had managed to do just that for a long time before he even met Carlos, so while annoying and just slightly concerning, this situation barely seemed to faze the small imp. However, something else soon did manage to get a reaction out of him: Bellamy’s small inquiry about the Dark Area made Dio immediately stop in his tracks, the fire in his hand flickering for a bit while his other hand clenched into a fist.
“It was awful.” He immediately snapped back at the furry Impmon with an angry glare, cutting him off before he could ask anything else. He sighed, almost, almost feeling a bit remorseful for reacting that way. His expression softened somewhat as he let out a tired sounding sigh. “And…I rather not talk about it.” He then added, his eyes focusing forward while he resumed walking.
Oddly enough, his aversion to both that place and everything about it wasn’t only because of all his bad memories involving creatures significantly larger than him trying to either kill him, eat him or enslave him (or all of the above, not necessarily in that order). There was…something else about that place that caused him a weird feeling of nostalgic sadness. He couldn’t say why, but it was almost as if that place reminded him of something else. Something past and long gone that he could recover, as if something had stolen a part of him, leaving nothing but a big, empty space where that something should be.
He shook his head, trying to get rid of those troubling thoughts. “How about you? The place you’re from, I mean.” He questioned, trying to subtly veer the subject as far away from his old life as possible.
They continued in silence for a bit after that, until Bellamy spoke up once again, this time offering a possible solution for their predicament.
“…hmm, that’s actually not a bad idea at all.” He admitted, though feeling a bit annoyed at himself for not having come up with a similar idea before. That said, he had to ponder for a moment if it was the best idea right now. Sure, it would give their position to the humans and would make finding them easier, but on the other hand it could potentially grab the attention of some of the more hostile digimon inhabiting the desolate underground, which could spell trouble for two rookie digimon with no tamer to back them up. Dio scratched his chin a bit, thinking for all the pros and cons and if this was a plan worth following. He wondered all of this…for all of five seconds.
“Feh, shoot first, ask questions while shooting. That’s the Dark Lord’s way.” He said with a cocky smile. And with that, he immediately threw the fire that he was using as a light source from his hand and into the air above, the projectile detonating a good distance away and bathing the surrounding area with a fiery bright red light, looking not unlike like a flare.
If that wasn’t enough to catch the humans attention, nothing else would be...he just hoped they were the ones that would actually pay attention to it.

Dio definitely didn't want to talk about the dark area. This confirmed Bellamy's suspicions that it truly was the hellscape that he had heard of.
"I see" he said, trying hard not to sound sympathetic, that would probably make Dio angry, at least from his experience of dealing with digimon that came from there. "You must be really strong then, to be able to get out of there".
Then Dio asked where he was from. Bellamy shrugged. "Village of Beginnings" he answered. "Hatched from the same egg as my brother pretty much". He didn't remember where he was from in the life before though. Maybe he had come from the dark area then too?
It seemed that Dio thought that the idea to launch a fireball in the air was agreeable, and so it was launched. Bellamy watched it, hoping it would give a signal to his partner and brother.
It did, but it also gave a signal to others in the vicinity too.
What Carlos said was true, what had happened was a complete accident. Yes, they could beat themselves up all day over what they could have done differently, but, the only way to make things right again would be to find Bellamy and Dio.
"If anything that might've been worse if it played out that way" Colin replied to Carlos. "That would've meant our partners might have been all by themselves, and, that might have been even worse".
Still, he hoped that Bellamy and Dio weren't fighting wherever they were. Luke did too. They proceeded onward through the ruined city, Colin looking at his digivice, glad to see that the dot that marked Bellamy's location seemed to be getting closer.
Eventually, Colin looked up and saw a flash of light far in the distance. It was well over a mile away, but, it was something. Maybe that was a signal? Eventually he clicked as to what it might be.
"A signal?" he breathed. Then he turned to Luke. "Hey, Luke, want to send a bolt of lightning up? That might be them!" he encouraged.
"Right!" Luke replied, then electrified his tail feathers and sent a Sparkling Thunder up to the roof above. He hoped that Bellamy might be able to see it.
And indeed Bellamy did see it. A flash of blue lightning through the ruins ahead. It was a distance away, but he automatically assumed that to be his brother.
"There! It's that way!" he said to Dio, then almost jogged through the streets toward it, but stopped not long after, his face falling at what laid ahead.
Before them was a broad river of water, with vertical walls - a canal through the ruined city. Bellamy stared at it, the murky grey liquid appearing like an impassible barrier. He trembled a little, looking up and down the stream for a bridge of some kind, but he could see none. Either they would have to go on a diversion that could last several miles and waste precious time, or, Bellamy would have to swallow his pride and admit his weakness to Dio.
"Uh... Dio..." he said to the other Impmon. "I, uh, can't swim. Can you?".
He hoped the answer was in the affirmative, if not, then they'd have no choice to either find a bridge or something to float them across. The water below was filthy. He didn't want to come to an untimely death in that. It was too far to jump, and looked too deep as well. He could see something of a ladder on the other side though.

“Maybe strong, maybe incredibly lucky. Perhaps even a bit of both.” Dio shrugged, accepting of Bellamy’s compliment as it sounded pretty genuine and not just something said out of pity. Good thing too, he loathed others pitying him.
“Either way it doesn’t matter now, it’s in the past.” He added, all to eager to drop the subject now, and thankful that Bellamy did not pressed him for more answers.
“I visited the Village once. It seemed uh…nice, I guess. And having a brother certainly seems advantageous.” It sure was better than having to roam around on your own without anyone to watch your back. Truth be told he was mostly jealous of Bellamy having that one thing to his favor. Dio on the other hand had only ever relied on his own strength and wit to take him out of bad situations, and having someone else to be there to cover his shortcomings would have been really appreciated.
“Good point.” The half Argentinian said with a nod, glad to see nobody was really to blame for this unfortunate turn of events. They continued in silence walking through the dilapidated streets for a bit, Carlos eyeing Collin's digivice every so often to check how far from the glowing dot they were.
They all stopped however once they saw a bright reddish light flaring up on the ceiling some miles away. Even if he suspected who that signal could belong to, Carlos deep down knew it was them. Or at the very least Dio, that vaguely dark reddish light from his fire was hard to mistake for other.
“They can’t be far. Lets hurry.” He said as soon as Luke had sent his own lightning as a signal, eagerly wanting to reunite with the imps to make sure they were still in one piece.
“Finally, some progress.” The megalomaniac commented happily as he saw the lightning shoot into the sky, no doubt as a form of response between the two twins. If so, then judging by the distance between both signals they were getting close.
“Gotta hand it to you, it was a…serviceable plan.” Dio said (in what probably was so far the nicest compliment he had given so far,) as they both made their way quickly towards the flash of lightning. Unfortunately, they soon came across yet another obstacle on their way. A canal filled with murky grey water stood between them, with no clear way to go across it except swimming. The small dark lord was already getting ready to jump into it and cross it by his own means, but stopped completely when he heard Bellamy speak yet again. The revelation of the furry digimon’s inability to swim was enough to bring a big smug grin to the Impmon’s face.
“Really? Oh this…this is rich.” He said, trying and failing to contain a snicker that threatened to become loud laughter. It was nice of life to throw him a bone for once at let him be objectively better at something than Bellamy for a change, that would certainly make him think twice of making fun of him in the future. However, he managed to stop himself from laughing enough time to realize just how much of a problem it was for them. “It would be a lot more hilarious if it wasn’t so bad for us right now.” He complained, his smile being replaced by a grim look.
As easy as it would have been to leave him behind earlier, now there was something keeping the dark lord from simply abandoning Bellamy to his luck. Call it a sense of honor, rather than actual worry. After thinking about it for long enough, he thought of a possible solution. It was far from ideal, and he wasn’t all that fond of it either, but it was their best chance at the moment.
“Look just…grab on to me and don’t let go.” He said, begrudgingly offering a hand (both proverbially and literally) to Bellamy to help him cross. He might not be good a teaching him how to swim, but as long as he didn’t get on the way too much they shouldn’t have any problems on the way, right? “I’ll get us to the other side. Just try not to sink us both, will you?” He said while slowly lowering himself into the slightly cold water.

As they headed toward the signal, Colin immediately looked at Luke. "Hey, Luke, do you think you can evolve to Mega to get us over there quickly?" he asked his partner. If only they weren't this far underground, Colin could have summoned Daedalus, their mercenary, and found the others in an instant. But there wasn't nearly enough space for the airship digimon here.
"Well... I can try" Luke replied. His mega form was Fulminomon - a Magnamon variant that could fly using jetpacks. And he would be powerful enough to carry Colin and Carlos over to where the signal was coming from. "Give it a go" the Elecmon consented.
With that, Colin drew a card from his pocket. A red one, that triggered Mega evolution. He scanned it through his D-Arc, some sparks appeared, but then... nothing. He tried again, but still, nothing happened.
"I was afraid of this" Luke said, trembling. "As twins, Bellamy and I get weaker if we're apart. I didn't think it meant we couldn't digivolve apart though".
"Maybe Mega's too much?" Colin suggested, putting the red card away and drew his blue one instead, the Matrix Evolution card.
"I can't fly as Dynammon though" Luke pointed out.
"That's fine, we can get there faster this way" Colin replied. Supposing that was true, Luke gave a nod, and Colin scanned the blue card.
At once, Luke was enveloped in red-blue code, transforming within to a tall, impressive rabbit warrior. He still retained the red and white fur as Elecmon, only he now stood six feet tall, had futuristic armor on his chest, forearms and lower legs, had a great big dynamo wheel on his back, and his weapons were twin blasters, holstered at the waist.
"Alright, let's go" he said, then raised his blaster in the air and with a shout of "Thundercast!" sent a blue-white beam of energy into the roof, another signal for the Impmons to follow. With that, they continued onward through the city. Colin hoped that Carlos wasn't too shocked by what happened.
"So, yeah, that's... digivolution" he said as he ran.
Bellamy meanwhile was glad that he wasn't making too much friction with Dio. He wasn't trying to manipulate him or anything, just, avoiding pressing his buttons so that they could get through this. That and his usual cocky attitude was somewhat suppressed by the fact that this was probably one of the first times of his life that he was in a dangerous area without his brother and partner around.
"Yeah, I guess it is, although there's downsides to it too" Bellamy admitted. "Luke and I can only fight at our best when we're together, it doesn't really work if we're apart".
There was also the fact that an individual twin digimon was weaker than a normal digimon by themselves, but Bellamy didn't want to raise that. For now, they were heading toward Luke's signal. Bellamy then flung his own fireball in the air to show that he saw. Hopefully it wouldn't be long until they were reunited.
...And then the river barred their way.
Bellamy blushed and looked down at his feet as Dio snickered. It definitely wasn't a weakness he was proud of. It wasn't the fact that Bellamy was physically unable to swim, it was more of a hydrophobia. He remembered in his previous life that he and Luke nearly drowned in a frozen lake and he hated being immersed in water ever since. There was also the fact that it weakened his fire attacks severely, making him almost useless in water. And he was so terrified of falling in, sinking and unable to surface again that it was ordinarily a paralyzing fear.
Thankfully Dio agreed to help him. "T-thanks..." he murmured. "I'll owe ya one" he forced a smile.
Then came the time to cross. Bellamy carefully stepped forward, the water was cold, he flinched, but forced himself onward. Then, as they began to cross, Bellamy held to Dio's waist, trying hard not to be a burden, but it was obvious by his shivering and silence that he was terrified, but this gradually passed after a few moments. He even found that kicking his legs behind them helped them go a little faster. Either way, even if his face was inches above the murky river, it didn't feel so bad. Had he been alone he would have been frozen at the shore still, but, they were getting through this. And for this act of generosity, he was grateful.
If all went okay, they would reach the other side, able to climb out via the ladder on the wall.

While seeing the duo’s failed attempts at getting the Elecmon to go Mega, Carlos couldn’t help but feel just a bit more worried over the missing partners safety. If Luke was having trouble evolving just from being away from his twin even if Collin was there to support him, how would Bellamy fare being so far from them and having to put up with Dio’s abrasive personality?
Before he could worry more however, the two partners eventually managed to get an evolution after some trying, the formerly small and cute Luke suddenly transforming into a tall and imposing cyber enhanced warrior. Carlos simply stood there as he witnessed the whole thing occur, awestruck.
He had heard of how digivolution worked but this was his very first time witnessing one in person and this up close. He wasn’t expecting the whole process to be so quick, efficient yet undeniably flashy at the same time.
It answered some questions but it rose even more at the same time. Sadly as much as Carlos would have liked to stop Collin for five minutes to bombard him with inquiries he knew this was certainly neither the time nor place for them. Maybe after everything was done he would ask them, but for now they still had to find their missing partners. “Well, that was…pretty awesome.” He replied sincerely while following after them, not wanting to be left behind. "Uh, if you don't mind me asking, are those card things the so fabled key to evolution? Gotta admit, I never would have seen that coming."
All the while wondering if Dio would ever be able to reach that stage as well. One could only hope.
“Tch, just…don’t tell Carlos I did this ok?” Dio said with a sigh upon hearing Bellamy mentioning how he’d “owe him one” for this. Frankly, his silence on the matter would suffice for now. The last thing he wanted was for his partner to think he was getting soft. He was only doing this because if he let Bellamy behind his brother would probably get upset and enact vengeance against him. Yes, it was most definitely just because of that.
While he couldn’t help but roll his eyes a bit at the furry imp’ reaction towards water (what with the flinching and trembling) he didn’t say anything, it was better to save his energy on actually crossing the river, even if he was somewhat curious as to why he had such a problem with water. Sure, the small dark lord wasn’t all that fond of swimming either, but he knew it was a very useful skill to have if, especially for desperate situations such as this.
As Bellamy held on (perhaps a bit too tightly) to Dio’s waist the small megalomaniac started swimming across, making a beeline to the ladder on the other side. It was slightly awkward sure, but bearable. Hell, Bellamy was even proving himself to be more than just extra weight, as soon after they started moving he too began to kick as well, helping Dio move more smoothly.
“That’s it, we’re doing this.” He said, almost sounding…encouraging for a moment. It would only be at most a couple more inches before they reached the ladder and could continue their way.
If only things were ever that easy. As they reached the halfway point while crossing, Dio couldn’t help but feel that the water somehow felt a bit warmer. Not only that, but he also felt the unmistakeable feeling of a different current moving under them, circling around them. Dio’s eyes widened in shock when he realized what this was: they weren’t alone in the river.
“Crap...” He cursed under his breath, while turning his head a bit to warn Bellamy of the incoming danger. “Listen, whatever you do don’t let go of-“
Before he could even finish relaying the info he quickly found himself interrupted as a white tentacle that was bigger than both of them put together suddenly emerged from underneath them with a loud splash, lashing against them and sending both rookies flying upstream and away from the ladder. The rookie level imp felt the world spinning out of control for the second time that day.
As he fell back into the water, during the few seconds he spent underwater trying to regain his bearings he saw their attacker not too far away, swimming swiftly towards them: the white, eight legged underwater monstrosity known as Gesomon.
As much as he hated to admit it, being both completely outside of his element and fighting something far more powerful than both of them, Dio knew this was a battle that they wouldn’t be able to win. Their only hope was getting to the ladder and out of the water, where hopefully the giant mollusk wouldn’t be able to give chase.
Swimming back up to the surface he coughed a bit while he tried to regain his breath. “B-bellamy, don’t you dare tell me you’re dead!” Despite his harsh choice of words, it was telling how dire of a situation it was if he was referring to the other Impmon by name and not some insulting nickname.

Feeling a little more confident about things now that his partner was in his Perfect level form, Colin answered Carlos's questions in a slightly better mood. "Thanks. And... well, the cards are the method of evolution if you have a D-Arc, like I do" he answered, holding it up. "They cost a bit, and they have weaknesses, so it's up to you if you choose to upgrade. If you keep your digivice, it'll evolve Dio to higher levels the closer you bond to him".
"That's the key to partner digimon, we have to get to know our partners" Luke added. The Dynammon narrowed his eyes as he saw the path ahead. He had seen a response to his thunderbolt before from Bellamy's fireball, but since he fired his Thundercast signal into the air, there hadn't been a response since. "That's... troubling" he muttered to himself. But he glanced at his human companions. "Are you up for a sprint? The road ahead's kinda flat" he said, but before he could break out into a sprint, another digimon appeared before them.
This digimon was a Witchmon, according to Colin's D-Arc. But she didn't seem to be hostile. She seemed to be somewhat old though, but at least her eyes seemed to be working.
"Been a long time since I've seen humans here..." she said. "To think I heard that you all abandoned us at the Battle of Aether..."
"The... what?" Colin asked, a little exasperated. "I'm really sorry, madam, but, we're in a bit of a hurry here, our partners are lost in here, we really have to get going...".
"Your partners... and countless others" the Witchmon answered, shaking her head. "To think you humans were heralded as the protectors of our world, now I see the truth. You abandon us and yet when you finally return, you have no care for the mess you left behind..."
"This... what?" Colin asked, honestly stunned by this. "This place... what do you mean?"
"Why, this is Terminus City of course, as it has always been" the Witchmon replied. This made Colin honestly somewhat confused. But Luke meanwhile was rather more impatient.
"Look, just, take this card and leave us alone, my brother's in danger!" he snapped, and flipped a PROFIT contact card at her. Colin thought that was a bit rude, but, hoped that Carlos wasn't too intimidated by the goings on.
Bellamy gave a nod of assurance. Hell, he never wanted to speak about anyone about this either. He hated his hydrophobia, in this he could sympathise with Dio's hatred of being pitied. He even hated when Luke brought it up, the only one he tolerated knowing about it was Colin, mainly because his partner was a splendid swimmer and might be able to teach him how to get over his fears.
As they began the trek across, Bellamy felt his confidence gradually start to build. Not overly so, but, just a feeling that if they could just get to the other side, that would be something to be proud of. Here he was, facing one of his biggest fears, in full support (albeit with a digimon he didn't feel like he could fully trust), but, at least Dio was showing care through actions rather than words. He would be fully grateful if only they could get across without incident.
But it wouldn't be that easy. Bellamy froze when he felt the current of something below. He could tell that it was nothing good. And when Dio told him to not let go, Bellamy became almost totally petrified with fear as the chaos broke out, holding Dio in a near death grip as the Gesomon attacked.
Then they were underwater again. Bellamy felt his hydrophobia return in full force. He feared that they were about to drown, and his body seemed to turn to full reflex mode. He'd kick his feet and hope they'd return upward. Then they reached the surface, and Bellamy gasped down air.
"Not... dead!" he yelped, unable to form more coherent sentences than that. They had to get to the ladder now! Bellamy hated everything about this situation, being fully at mercy like this. They just had to make it to the ladder.

Carlos simply nodded as he heard Collin once again explain things to him. While cards as a concept never really felt appealing to him he couldn’t deny they seemed like a powerful alternative to making one’s partners more powerful. Maybe that’s what Dio needed to be satisfied? Regardless, the duo’s following words did gave the man a lot to think about.
“Get to know his partner”…now that certainly sounded easy enough on paper, but Carlos knew getting closer to Dio would prove to be troublesome at the very least. The nicest the digimon had ever been to him before was when he had fed him back on Earth, and even then it wasn’t so much out of gratitude as it was simply to get him to make more food. They had a long way to go if they ever wanted to get as far as Collin and the twins were, that much was certain.
Their trek towards the missing partners was soon interrupted by the sudden and unexpected arrival of a witch looking digimon. While Carlos wanted to ask her just what was wrong, it was hard to focus on anything she said right now, beeing too worried about the other missing partners that had suddenly gone silent with their messages.
Clearly Luke thought the same way, as he simply shoved a PROFIT card in her general direction and kept going, the humans following after without even looking back. “What was that about?” A very puzzled Carlos would ask, wondering if any of the other two actually had any idea of what the Witchmon was talking about.
For once since this whole day started, the imp wished his partner Carlos was nearby. Both because this seemed like a great moment for him to help out achieving his next evolution, or failing that using the man as live bait. Sadly, that wasn’t the case right now, so he’d have to face this big toothed mollusk on his own.
He would have complained about Bellamy’s grip being a bit too tight and not letting him breathe, but he suspected that there was nothing to do about that. The other Impmon was clearly too panicked right now to be reliable. But at least he wasn’t dead, so that was a start. As his mind considered his options, two things became clear: he was not going to be able to beat that thing, and if he wanted to get out he’d need to have a good plan, fast. Well, he didn’t have the best plan, but it was better than nothing.
“Good! Now, I want you to trust me on this, because I have a plan to get us through, but you won’t like it.” He said to Bellamy, trying and failing miserably at sounding reassuring. “When I say “now”, take a deep breath, and don’t stop kicking.” He instructed the other Digimon. Truth be told, his plan was as likely to fail or to succeed regardless of if Bellamy kicked or not, but he needed a way to keep him distracted so he wouldn’t make things harder for him He waited impassive for the Gesomon to be closer to them, his left hand slowly gathering power as he stood still. When he saw the creature emerging violently from the water, he stepped into action.
“Now!” He yelled whilst throwing with his left hand a large chunk of solid ice towards the Gesomon’s mouth…the ice hitting one of the teeth with enough force to cause it to crack. The creature reacted as well as you’d expect, letting out a pained and angry roar as it submerged again, thrashing around in a rage as it tried to hit the two rookies once again. With that the Impmon submerged again, facing down the squid coming for them. Dio, going against all logic and survival instincts he had left began swimming rapidly…towards the white Gesomon. When he was close enough, in a swift movement he positioned himself between the blinded squid and the ladder to the shore, except he didn’t swam towards it, instead choosing to stay close to the still thrashing around and still enraged Gesomon.
Of course, in doing that it didn’t take long for one of the monster’s angry attacks hit them again. When he saw the tentacle approaching rapidly from beneath them, Dio braced himself for impact. The tentacle once again hit the two Impmons with force, sending them flying out of the water…and into the other shore. With a loud thud Dio landed belly first against the harsh ground, Bellamy landing on top of him a second later.
Despite the mild pain he was in, he couldn’t help but chuckle a bit while he coughed out some water. While this whole event had been all manners of terrifying and humiliating, he still felt accomplished in having made it out in one piece. And Bellamy was still alive too, that was a good plus!
Finally, after about a full minute of just catching his breath he talked again. “S-see? Told you I’d get us through.” He said, tired but just as prideful as always.

It was hard to make anything out of that conversation just now. But Luke came to a conclusion fairly quickly. "Somehow I don't think the digimon down here are very much aware of what's happening in the world above" he theorised. But when Colin gave a blank look in return, Luke decided not to go further along that line of debate. "...Nevermind, let's keep going" he said.
Carlos then asked what the Witchmon was talking about. Colin thought about it for a moment while Luke remained silent, then came up with a possible theory.
"Either she's completely mad, or, something happened down here" Colin said. "She mentioned the Battle of Aether... I don't know anything about that, but, if that is a significant event that happened in the digital world, then, that's probably something to keep in mind. Since, yeah, time flows seven times faster here than it does on Earth".
"Colin, as much as I'm interested in the history of the digital world, I'd much rather we focus on getting back with Bellamy" Luke said. "...and Dio" he added as an afterthought. Even if he was miffed with the other Impmon for picking fights with his brother, he at least suppressed these by how they seemed like they were on the verge of making amends before they disappeared. And so he supposed that was the best thing to focus on moving forward.
Bellamy meanwhile, in the light of this hell on the river, felt absolutely powerless. And he hated it. He expected Dio to take advantage of this, but, he didn't, and this raised his esteem in his eyes. It would have been very easy for Dio to just throw Bellamy away as bait while he made his escape if he truly was a selfish asshole, but he didn't. In fact Dio seemed to be thinking on the spot to save both of their lives. And this made Bellamy forget every negative thought about him, relying on him for his survival.
"Alright, I will" Bellamy responded to the command, knowing that it was part of a plan. He had no intention of messing it up. And he guessed that not going by the plan would only result in him drowning, which he didn't intend to do, well, he'd just see what would happen in this case. There was absolutely nothing else that Bellamy could do to the Gesomon. He just hoped Dio's escape plan could work.
As Dio enacted his plan, Bellamy simply just acted in reaction to events. He kept on holding on to the other Impmon, holding his breath as he was brought under the surface. But when he saw that Dio was swimming toward the Gesomon, his green eyes widened. Just... what the hell was this?!
But he didn't stop kicking. This was an act of trust. Bellamy didn't know how to get out of this situation by himself, so he could only trust in Dio. And his trust was paid with a strike from Gesomon's tentacles, which propelled them out of the water.
Bellamy was stunned by the audacity of this. The Gesomon could have easily just snared them both with its tentacle and held them under until they drowned, which was what he thought, but this turn of events? He was utterly stunned, even if he landed on Dio.
He barely said anything for the next few moments as he coughed up the murky water, rolling off Dio to his side. Eventually, he came to understand his surroundings. Even if he was soaked through and bashed around a bit from the underwater combat, he was alive. And happy for being so.
"...wow, thanks" he breathed. With that, he took off his soaked t-shirt, twisting it dry. As he did so, he shook his sodden fur a little. While he was still cold and miserable, he was at least still alive. In fact it was now obvious to Dio that Bellamy had a similar white front to his twin brother, but he supposed that was one of the least of the things to bring attention to.
In fact, Bellamy wanted to repay Dio as soon as possible. Even if he was grateful to the other Impmon, he would hate to remain in debt to him after that display of gallantry and bravery.
"Dio, are you alright?" he asked, putting his shirt back on. "I... don't know if it'll work a hundred percent, but, if you get injured down here, I think I might be able to heal you. I have to have enough energy to digivolve first, and that's a hard sell when I don't know where Colin is, but, if I can just get to Champion I can heal" he advised. And he would not hesitate to do so for him.

The Battle of Aether sounded like both a great name for a science fiction novel, and what had probably been a pretty big event in the Digital World’s history. Well, this place certainly looked derelict and ruined enough for something of that magnitude to had happened, so maybe not all of the Witchmon’s words were insane ramblings.
Carlos nodded at Colin’s theory, as it sounded feasible enough. It was certainly something they ought to ask to some historian or something lat- wait, what did Colin say about time?
“Woah hold the phone…what do you mean seven times faster?” Carlos asked, his expression turning into one of stunned silence as the gears turned inside his head. That…actually would explain a lot. Like how he and his girlfriend Talia had gotten separated a week ago despite both going into the same portal. They had both fallen inside with around half a minute of difference tops, so if time moved differently in the Digital World it was perfectly possible they had landed on the same place, but at drastically different times.
“…does that mean that while I was here for a week it’s only been a day on Earth?” Well, at least that meant nobody would file a missing person report just yet, his friends probably didn’t even know he had banished.
Before he could continue with his questions however, Luke chimed in again, reminding the humans of what was at stake. Carlos knew he was right, they could save their theories for later, saving the other two was always more important.
“Right, sorry.” He said before quickly falling silent again, not wanting to upset Luke any further, as he was still clearly on edge with worry over his brother’s well being.
“You’re welcome.” He replied with a sincere nod, taking off both his gloves and bandanna, twisting them to get rid of the dirty water. For once he didn’t feel like boasting about his great cunning and skill at getting them out of that bad situation. Possibly because Bellamy already seemed genuinely grateful, he didn’t need a reminder of how awesome the dark lord was , he clearly knew that first hand.
Plus...it felt rather nice being thanked for once instead of being yelled at over how “dangerous his little plan had been” and how “he could have gotten them both killed”. As weird as it was for him, Dio didn’t seem to hold any grudges against Bellamy anymore. Hell, he even thought maybe Carlos could learn a thing or two about gratitude from him.
Catching on to his own train of thought, the imp couldn’t help but roll his eyes in annoyance at himself. Either this place was getting to him, or he was getting too soft.
He tried to light up a flame in his hand for warmth and help fasten the drying process, but he could barely maintain but a small ember before it faded out. He was still too soaked and tired for any fire manipulation, it seemed. Not that he minded too much, he’d get warm just by walking for a while.
While Bellamy’s following offer to digivolve and heal him was both commendable, and a rather tempting one considering the small pain Dio felt at the moment, the last thing they needed now was to use up their only digivolution on something minor like that. It was their only trump card in case something bad happened again.
“Heh, I’m fine, just need a moment to dry before we can move on, is all.“ He replied, playing down the fact that he was still hurting a bit from the damage received a moment ago. Apparently he had been the one to take most of the impact from the blows the Gesomon gave during the duo’s valiant escape, and to be perfectly honest being thrown around by a giant squid hurt. Champion level digimon really packed a punch against rookies, who could have guessed. That said it wasn’t a game ending injury exactly, a mere annoyance at worst. He could walk it off.
“Sides, you should save that energy for a real emergency. Who knows what else might be lurking around.” He warned, getting up from the ground while eyeing their surroundings just in case. Knowing their rotten luck so far, he wouldn’t be surprised for an army of Gesomon to turn around a corner and swallow them both.
“Come on, let’s find the other fools already. I’m getting sick of this place.”

"Ah, didn't you know?" Colin asked Carlos, who seemed to be surprised at the flow of time. "Well, that's how it is. It's for the best, because otherwise you probably wouldn't be able to spend much time here, especially if you have things to do on Earth as well".
Luke meanwhile was getting a little worried. He hadn't seen a signal from Bellamy or Dio for a while. But he hoped they were still going in the right direction. He fired his Thundercast gun up in the air once more, the bright blue beam of energy blasting into the roof. Thankfully, not long after, a small red fireball sailed upward through the buildings.
"Okay, we're on the right track!" Luke said, glad that there was yet still signs of life from his brother. They were still a fair distance away though, but they'd get there.
As Bellamy calmed down, and as Dio replied calmly, it felt less like he was a stranger and more of a comrade. After all, that was the situation. Dio had saved Bellamy's life in a severely perilous moment. As he re-oriented himself and got used to now standing on dry land, he couldn't help but grin.
"Once we get back, I'll buy you a drink" he told Dio with a grin, even patting his back in a friendly gesture. He noted that Dio seemed to be a bit tired to use his fireball to dry off, which was understandable as he had done most of the work down there. But other than being fairly shaken, Bellamy hadn't used up too much of his energy.
He was about to dry himself off a bit more with his own fireball when he saw a pillar of light smash into the ceiling above. It took him a few moments to realize that was a signal from Luke.
"Ah, right!" Bellamy exclaimed, suddenly remembering, and conjured a small fireball in his damp paw. He struggled to keep it lit, but lobbed it in the air, glad to see that it sailed over the buildings, clearly visible to anyone that was watching.
Meanwhile Dio declined the offer to heal. Bellamy supposed he agreed for now. "Yeah, you're right, we don't wanna be caught without that to back us up" he said.
Most unfortunately, Luke and Colin weren't the only ones to see his signal. Other, more sinister forces that dwelled here within the ruined city had seen, and were approaching the two, watching them. For a moment, Bellamy thought he saw a pair of green eyes looking down from a nearby building, but discounted it. It was probably a data glitch again.
They proceeded further. Partially blocking the road ahead was a great big collapsed tower - made of strange twisted stone and metal. They would be able to get through, but not around. So that seemed like the only way forward.
Before they did so, Bellamy heard a faint snickering noise behind him. He looked to see, but saw nothing.
"...was that you, Dio?" he asked, his tail still and the fur on the back of his neck raised a little in alertness. If that wasn't him, then that definitely wasn't good news.

“Well, that’s convenient. Means I still have about a week here before I have to go back.” He commented, somewhat happy. At least he still got to keep his job when he finally returned form this adventure…if he ever returned, that was.
As they continued their way into the ruined districts, where the anomalies were starting to get bigger and more numerous, Carlos was almost starting to worry for how they hadn’t received a signal from the lost partners. Luckily, said sign came back quickly in the for of another fireball exploding high into the air, which Luke soon responded to in kind with his own attack.
Good, at least they were still alive and kicking, and the signal seemed ever so slightly more close to them. They were certainly on the right track.
While he was slightly taken off guard by the sudden pat in the back from Bellamy, the self proclaimed dark lord was welcoming of. Nothing said thanks better than a free drink, after all.
“Heh, that’d be nice.” He’d reply with a grin of his own, before suddenly realizing his sudden change in demeanor. “I-I mean…The Dark Lord will certainly take you up on the offer!” He said, folding his arms while looking away. Damn it, he was getting to acquainted and soft with Bellamy. If Carlos ever found out, he’d never hear the end of it.
“Exactly. I mean, I could save you every time, but I don’t want you becoming dependant from me.” He said, half teasingly to the furry impmon as they continued down their way. Truth be told, Bellamy didn’t seem like the idiot he had thought he was when they first met, and was almost, almost . Not too long after Bellamy had sent another signal to the other group, they came across the ruined remains of a large tower blocking the path forward, with no way to go around it but go across the rubble.
Had it been possible for his current level of power, he would have simply open a wholre through a wall and continue walking in a straight line, but alas, that wasn’t really an option so they had to go through the collapsed structure normally. Dio sighed a bit as he was forced to climb on top of rubble larger than himself just to continue forward. That digivolution couldn’t come quickly enough.
Soon however, he’d hear an odd sound reminiscing of a snicker. Before he could tell Bellamy to stop snickering like an idiot, the furry imp then asked his megalomaniac companion if he had just made that same sound, which confused Dio somewhat.
“What you talking about? I thought that had been yo-“ He stopped in his tracts, his whole body tensing. Of course, their luck had already been pretty bad to begin with, being stalked by more things on dry land was only the next logical step.
“Show yourself.” He ordered in a deadly serious tone, turning his whole body to face whatever it was behind them, while his left hand glowed with cold, freezing energy. He was still to soaked and tired to use fire based abilities, but he could still use ice no problem, probably thanks to all the water still dripping from his body.

Bellamy noted that Dio seemed to be opening up to him. The Impmon felt kinda happy about that. Of course he had no intention of taking advantage of this, given he understood how Dio might still be new to this sort of thing in socialising, but that was okay. He wouldn't put any further expectations or burdens on the other Impmon other than this promise of a swift reward for helping him out. A good friendship was one that was given the chance to blossom after all, he had no intentions of rushing this.
"Alrighty then" Bellamy replied instead, not making any mirth of Dio's reaction. But when Dio teased further about having to save him every time, Bellamy couldn't help but smirk. But he wouldn't tease him about it.
"Oh man, please don't do that, Luke's already saved my ass enough, he'd get jealous" he said, jokingly. Even if Bellamy did have a bit of that old Impmon ego, well, he was mature enough not to invoke it at such inappropriate times. And so far Dio hadn't been genuinely mean to him, so, he kept his humour in self-depreciative mode.
But when the snickering incident occurred and Bellamy realized it wasn't Dio, his fears soon turned to physical reactions. He wildly turned around, trying to see exactly what had made that noise. Then, he saw it. A pair of reflective lenses that turned out to be eyes. Only they weren't on the head, but rather, on each hand. Bellamy blinked when he saw the digimon approaching, but soon identified the digimon as a Dracmon.
Then a second digimon made their appearance to their backward right. This one floated in midair. A DemiDevimon. Bellamy now felt a rising fear in his belly.
And then, behind him, he felt a third presence. He turned around slowly, and there he saw a third digimon. Another Impmon, although this one was far more feral than even Dio. His scarf a tattered mess, his bare purple and white skin a mess of scars. This one seemed dangerous.
"Well well well, lookie here" the Impmon said, sneering down at them. "Ya thought you could wash the stench of humans off in the canal did ya? Hah, fat chance of that, you still stink of subservience and shame!"
"And who the hell are you?" Bellamy snapped back at him, not appreciating being spoken to like that. He felt the exact opposite of shame at being the partner of Colin.
"The name's Impmon, that's all, same as your name should be" the Impmon retorted. "Unless your human renamed you with one of their pet names like "Fluffy" or "Mittens" or "Pussymon". Heh, wow, now that I see you in person, you do have a godawful amount of fur. What the hell did the humans do to you?"
"Mind your own business!" Bellamy spat back at the other Impmon, scowling heavily. He could tell that they were being insulted here. The other Impmon meanwhile responded with a smirk.
"Heh, okay then, have it your way" he said. "I heard that absorbin' a digimon that's a human pet gives ya huge power boosts! So, let's try this out shall we?"
Bellamy was immediately frightened, but he couldn't afford to lose face here. He had to hold his ground and not lose face. While he and Dio were outnumbered here, he thought they were strong enough fighters to hold these bastards off... but yet, he remembered Dio had expended a lot of energy in fighting off the Gesomon. Bellamy had to keep them protected. But was the right moment to evolve just now? Could these little pricks evolve too? It was too early to tell. So he would just have to be patient.
"Interestin' that you think you got what it takes to absorb us" Bellamy responded, assuming a battle stance, glaring at the foe. "Well, go on then, just try us!"
Bellamy then regretted these words when the first attack didn't come from the Impmon, but the DemiDevimon. The enemy rookie formed three large syringes in front of him, then launched them at Bellamy. The Impmon tried to dodge, but one of the syringes landed in his right arm. He yelled in pain, and realized with horror that his arm was now paralyzed.
Thankfully, Bellamy was left handed, and so he turned around, raising his left paw to the DemiDevimon, then clicked his fingers.
"Semper Fire"
At once, a plume of fire erupted out toward the enemy digimon, making him scream with terror and pain. His feathers caught fire, and he tried desperately to douse them. But while he was doing this, the enemy Impmon and Dracmon were free to attack. The Dracmon attacked first, launching himself forward to bite at him. The enemy Impmon meanwhile seemed content to hold back and observe for the moment.

Soon after they stopped to check on the noise, they soon found themselves surrounded by a trio of rather dangerous looking digimon. Demidevimon, Dracmon…and ironically enough, another Impmon, one looking far more menacing than them, what with all the scars and unkempt look. Of course, being an Impmon meant that he had a very low opinion of anyone but himself, as proved by how inmediate were his insults and threats aimed at Dio and Bellamy.
While Bellamy was (understandably) getting worked up over the feral Impmon’s words, Dio seemed surprisingy calm by comparison, not showing the anger these taunts really caused him, if only so he could deny their enemies off that satisfaction.
“Tch, subservience? As if, I merely follow that human because I want.” Dio said, folding his arms whist glaring back at the impmon, before adding with a sarcastic smile, “Nice to see that you gutter thrash have such a great grasp of the big, fancy words, though. Next thing you’ll tell me you know what a stethoscope is.” That said, his calmed tone wasn’t really able to hide the sheer contempt and hatred he felt for the other three.
He had already been in situations like this too many times to count, both on the Dark Area and out: a group of rookies way over their head taking advantage of lone digimon one way or another. Oh, how Dio hated such a cowardly approach. These idiots were nothing more than bullies, plain and simple.
And while Bellamy simply settled for direct, no nonsense replies to get the other three to leave them be, Dio couldn’t hold back the sheer hate and bile he felt from them, and he had to let them know that.
“Hah, and I’m sure living here is so much better. Hidden under a dank tunnel, away from sunlight, having to hide behind two goons just to feed of those supposedly weaker than you. You’re no better than a mere leech.” The small megalomaniac spat back, not caring in the slightest if his words would make things worse or not. As long as the other imp got angry, he’d be satisfied.
At the very least he wasn’t alone this time, he had Bellamy to cover for him, which was quite a welcomed change. But even that way they still were at a numerical disadvantage, and just to further complicate matters the small megalomaniac was still tired from the escape against Gesomon. So much so he wasn’t sure how long he’d be able to last against more than one enemy.
Damn it, why couldn’t they have fought these guys instead of that overgrown squid?
Eventually, it seemed the trio had enough of simply threatening and taunting them, as the nameless impmon made abundantly clear their intentions on deleting the duo and absorbing them. Even Dio couldn’t help but feel worried over this, as things seemed to look worse and worse by the minute for them.
However, it seemed Bellamy wasn’t going to be easily frightened, and at the least that he’ll put up a good fight. His words seemed to renew Dio’s confidence in both himself and his unlikely ally, as he too assumed a combat ready stance.
“That’s right, come forth you three, if you’re in such a hurry to die! You’ll rue the day you crossed paths with the Dark Lord Dio!” He boasted, raising his voice as a smug expression appeared on his face.
An expression that was quickly dissipated as he noticed the Demidevimon shooting syringes at them. He rolled to a side, managing to avoid the attack, but sadly Bellamy wasn’t as lucky, being reached by one of the projectiles on his arm. Before he could even ask if he was fine, the furry digimon immediately retaliated by setting fire to his aggressor, something that almost caused Dio to snicker in satisfaction. His joy was once again short lived, as the Dracmon suddenly lunged for Bellamy, its white fangs glowing with evil intent.
Dio’s body practically moved on his own, as if by sheer instinct, shoving the furry impmon out of the way with his shoulder. “Move you idi-“ He wasn’t able to finish that sentence, as the Dracmon would then crash into him, the force of the impact sending both digimon to the ground. Instinctually Dio raised his arms to protect himself, but would soon feel Dracmon sinking his sharp fangs into one of his arms and causing Dio to let out a pained yelp. Despite the pain he was still quick to respond in kind.
“Night of Blizzards.”
On the imp’s free arm energy quickly gathered, his left hand glowing an ominous light before his fist was suddenly encased in a thick ice. Wasting no time he punched the enemy’s face with al his might, the ice shattering by the blow and sending Dracmon rolling a good three feet away.
“Is that the best you got?!” The dark lord asked, getting back on his feet, trying his best to hide his heavy breathing. The Dracmon however slowly got back up on his feet too. Dio cursed under his breath, his attack, while effective had not been nearly as powerful as he would have liked. He was slowly but surely running out of energy, and it would only be a matter of time before this fight would drain him completely.

The enemy Impmon sneered at Dio's words, rolling his eyes. "Sweeten the deal all ya want, pal, your life is entirely at the mercy of whatever human sucker ya managed to enlist, and far as I can tell, they ain't here!"
He didn't even care about the taunt about the word stethoscope. "I dunno what that word means, but I'll bet the humans'll need one once I'm done with ya!" he snapped.
"...oh my god that doesn't even sound clever!" the brother of Luke the Elecmon complained. But then Dio went further in taunting the trio. Bellamy was honestly a bit uncomfortable at first, given that he was all by himself with his tamer and brother virtually a mile away, but man, those words from Dio were gutsy.
"God I hope you can back that up, Dio" Bellamy muttered.
Then the combat begun. Bellamy's strong attack against the Demidevimon seemed effective, but then the Dracmon seemed to lunge in to continue the offensive. Bellamy would have been totally vulnerable had Dio not been there. And Dio in turn suffered from the attack that the Dracmon had aimed at him, until he fended him off with his own counterattack.
Bellamy was by now up to speed with the situation. He and Dio were outnumbered, if the enemy Impmon decided to join in, they would be destroyed for sure. Perhaps now was the moment that that they should go all out? After all, even if they beat back Dracmon and DemiDevimon they'd still have him to deal with.
Then, everything changed...
A strange new digimon hovered into the scene behind the enemy Impmon. It seemed to be a large floating eye covered with purple armor. Bellamy saw it first, and gasped at its utter unearthliness. Just... what was that?
"Heh! Like I thought! You two are worthless without your human pets!" the Impmon taunted, oblivious to the floating eye that was hovering closer behind his back.
"Impmon... watch out! There's somethin' behind you!" Bellamy warned, the extra digimon making him feel extremely worried about what might happen next.
"Heh! HAH! Is that the best ya can do?!" the enemy Impmon laughed, not taking Bellamy seriously for a moment. However, all this changed when he felt something warm against his back.
"...what the-?" he asked, turning around, then, the floating eye glowed for a moment, then fired a yellow beam straight through him. After that moment, Impmon said no more, his body frozen, sparking with blue energy, then... all at once, he disintegrated. All that remained was a purple and white digiegg... which also disintegrated.
"...holy shit" Bellamy swore, breathing with horror at what he had just observed. At once, he recognized the danger. This new digimon, it was a fundamental danger to every living thing in this vicinity. As he stared at the enemy, the Dracmon and DemiDevimon decided to cut their losses and flee right there.
"DUST THIS BITCH!" he roared, then readied his attack. Freeze Lancer. At once, a blue spell circle appeared in front of him, and as it spun, a volley of icicles shot at the enemy digimon. While the enemy Impmon and his gang had been an unpleasant surprise, this new digimon, they had to be eliminated here and now. They could not only defeat but kill digimon in a single blow. This thing needed to die, right now.
