Sitting down in the shade under an enormous, rune covered monument, an emerald-haired woman sighs, her Tsukaimon partner gently resting underneath the obelisk as well, buried partway in the sand for some reason, the pair having come out here simply in hopes of finding something of interest, and find things they did. Alice takes a moment to open up her notebook, and begin writing, gazing up at the other monolith, the pair of enormous, rust colored stone structures providing shade alongside the wreckage of absolutely ancient walls. To Alice, this place is exactly the kind of thing she wanted to find, a place where she could sate her curiosity.
We've discovered a set of ruins... They must be absolutely ancient, judging by how the sand has covered large parts of it. They're rather odd and seem to be the remains of something much, much larger... Perhaps the remains of an ancient city. I get the feeling people have been to this place before, but who knows... It's massive, there's no way one could have just casually explored the entire thing.
The symbols on the ruins (And indeed, the so-called "Digital World" in general) are unusual. I haven't seen them before, and they seem to be very difficult to translate. Hopefully with these samples, I'll be able to collect more data and hopefully understand them eventually.
"Why is your face buried in the sand, Dorothy?" Alice asks her Digimon with a puzzled expression as she continues her notebook entry, sketching out the obelisk in front of her with a bit of a yawn. "I know it's soul-searingly hot out here, but now you're just confusing me." The sun's intensity is nothing short of incredible here, a searing ball of heat that turns the sand into a glittering mass of particles, a beautiful but incredibly harsh, shimmering landscape of rocks, ruins and sand. Even if it's beginning to set, and things have cooled down slightly, it's still rather unforgiving, the world saturated in a peach-colored haze.
Dorothy mumbles something in the sand before pulling her head out of the pile, shaking herself off and nearly getting sand on Alice's notebook. "It's so bright it hurts my eyes, you dork!" Her response makes it clear that she's not used to such environments. "I wanna go in a tomb, I heard they're darker..." She whines, the purple and gray Digimon wiggling her feet a bit in the sand and making a grumpy expression at Alice.
"...With two massive structures like this... Do you think we're above some kind of temple or shrine that's been buried underneath layers of sand?" Alice asks, pondering the nature of these twin, reddish brown pillars and what could possibly lay beneath. "Something about exploring ancient catacombs feels like it would be exciting..."
"Adventure, ya say?" Dorothy perks up, smiling, the two perhaps thinking on the same wavelength, even if for different reasons, though that doesn't last long. "Or maybe somethin' to do like, I dunno... I wanna hurt somethin'." She spreads her ear-wings and makes a smirk, probably thinking she's more menacing than she really is.
Alice's response is a shrug. "Maybe. You Digimon are supposedly quite strong, even in forms as small as yours... I don't know the specifics, though. I don't think I will until we actually encounter something hostile. And even then... I'm not sure if that would be pleasant." Alice closes her notebook after managing to replicate all the symbols she can figure out, and she puts it into her bag... Only to notice something. "Why is there a box of those dumb crackers from all the way back when we were in the Human World, Dorothy?" She recalls not too long ago, when back in the human world, Haru's... Rather interesting partner had managed to snag an entire crate full of these boxes, and the green haired woman sighs, glaring at Dorothy slightly. "Just couldn't help it even after I told you not to do it... Could you?"
"Thought you'd want 'em..." Dorothy looks down, wiggling her feet a little bit before cheering up, her ego not particularly bruised. "Not like anyone will know 'sides you 'n me!"
"...Well, I guess having a snack ready just in case won't hurt." Alice takes out the box, looking it over before putting it back into her bag, and standing up, glancing over the barren desert horizon. "Though I doubt we'll find anywhere interesting... Who knows how many people have been here in search of treasure. If we do find somewhere, the likelihood of it already being raided is high."
Perhaps someone would notice the unusual pair, given their somewhat vocal nature, or maybe someone followed the two here.

This was a land with a rich history, one far too fantastical for most to be able to ever comprehend in it's entirety. Not even this lone guardian among the vast mega structure of ruins herself knew the full story of this place, though this has not stopped her from wandering it's depths for countless cycles of the digital sun and moon, fabrications of celestial objects from another reality. Lurking between shadow to shadow among the sun-bleached stone of the ruins, a bestial Digimon took a careful approach towards not disrupting the ancient walls that were far older than even she was... She was not without purpose though, having found the scent of... something impure lurking amongst these ruins. Leaping from structure to structure, the figure dexterously traversed the uneven terrain of the lost city... heading towards where she believed the scent to be. Soon enough, she soon spotted two figures down below from the monument she had managed to perch herself on... one humanoid, one small. Both however carried a darkness to their hearts that... brought interest to yet another guardian of this land. "Halt." they commanded with a voice that could be heard clearly even down below, they diving down before the pair's path. The Youkomon had a stern look on their face as they stared at the pair, analyzing their reactions and appearance. A human girl with ridiculous hair, and a Tsukaimon. She seemed to glare at the two; while not overtly aggressive in posture, she was very much suspicious of the pair. "... What brings two dark souls such as you two to this forgotten land. What could one want from a place that has wanted to be forgotten?" she spoke in a calm, but demanding voice.

"What the..." Alice immediately freezes, and Dorothy hops in front, almost looking ready to fight until the green-haired woman gives her a small kick to jolt the Tsukaimon's attention to something, anything else. She knows that Dorothy wants to fight, but this thing... "Don't. We have no idea how strong it is..." The blazing, dark purple fox is something Alice hasn't seen before, and indeed, it evokes the same imagery as a demon or ill-willed spirit, a creature of darkness... But the words it says make Alice hesitate instead of ask Dorothy to fight. "We're here for knowledge. I'm just trying to make sense of these runes and ruins. Maybe treasure, but I doubt it..."
"Why won'tcha lemme fight her!?" Dorothy snaps at her Tamer with her sharp teeth bared until Alice glares at her, the Tsukaimon clearly still in the mood to fight, but holding herself back, if only just, because of her green haired, more intellectually inclined partner. "C'mon! I can probably take it..." She grumbles.
Once again, Alice holds her Digimon back. "No. We won't fight unless we have to." Her glare becomes more obvious to her partner, and eventually she succeeds in stopping Dorothy. For now, at least. "...I'm not sure what you mean by us being dark souls, but I assumed this place was empty. Seems not." The green haired woman frowns slightly, and takes out her Digivice, not sure why she would, but just in case. Despite seeming relatively stoic, she's terrified. This creature might not be as terrifying as some of the others she's seen or heard about, but unlike those, it was here, in her face, right now. "What draws you to us in particular?" She picks her words carefully, not wanting to end up on the receiving end of that vicious mouth, or the flickering flames on its tails and...
Alice swiftly shakes her head to clear her mind. This being was no bonfire, it was a potential enemy if she isn't careful. The heat from the sun isn't the only threat here, she reminds herself.

Despite the kyubi no kitsune's stern look, it was evident enough that they seemed mildly amused by Dorothy's gung-ho nature to fight her. She was not an unreasonable figure, but she'd have had no choice to fight back had the little mammamlian Digimon broke free from the girl's grip. "Hasty. Violent. Reckless. Traits so many carry." she almost seemed to sadly note, shaking her head. A shame that some Digimon were just wired like that.
The human exihibited bravery despite their clear fear of the situation. An admirable trait at the very least. Their motives were debatable though, and that was the Youkomon's primary goal at best. "It is not a crime to seek knowledge, but this land does not take well to graverobbers. Would thou defile a human resting spot for the potential of a profit?" she mused, asking the green-haired woman.
"I am a guardian of these ruins... one of many. Perhaps good. Perhaps evil. I do not question my own morality these days. Everyone is entitled to their own views, so I seek to fulfill my own." the vixen briefly rambled as she stepped closer to the girl and their Tsukaimon, a foreboding presence to the violet fox as the flames that adorned their body crackled lightly. "Your souls run with impurity. This is not to say impurity is rare, nor is it always evil... but you both are weighed down by stains towards your very being. As someone who guards these ruins from those to seek to defile it, it is my duty to judge all who come." they spoke, their stare feeling as if it pierced beyond the very flesh itself... judging the pair for whom they are, and the circumstances that led them to become the way they are.

"...It really depends on the situation. If I was desperate, yes, but... I don't think I'm quite at that point yet. So I'm mostly here for knowledge. There was a reason I mentioned it second rather than first." The green haired woman responds with slight hesitation, knowing that if Dorothy does one thing wrong, both may end up biting off more than they could possibly ever chew, a fight that would likely end in disaster at best. She then looks to Dorothy, who is struggling in her arms at first, but does seem to slowly be calming down.
" 'Course I'm impure! That's what everyone says 'bout me." Dorothy says this as if she's heard it before, like a child who's sick of being scolded. "That's why Alice is mad at me sometimes..."
Alice rolls her eyes. "Because I care for your well being." The green haired Tamer's eyes widen slightly for a moment. "And yes, I do have... Baggage. Things I regret doing, or at least try my hardest to make up for."
"Is that why ya set things on fire?" Dorothy is immediately answered by Alice with a nod with a much more displeased expression, as if Alice is slightly pained and irritated just hearing that come from her partner, her feet digging into the sand somewhat as she keeps holding the purple and gray Digimon back.
The human of the unusual pair takes a deep breath, and sighs, trying to not get too angry at her Digimon... Or entranced by the flaming fox in front of her, the dancing flames seemingly pulling at something dark beneath her surface. "Enough. I'm not proud of that... As long as you make up for you own shortcomings and overcome them, you'll probably make it." It's unclear whether she's saying that to Dorothy, or perhaps even to herself, as something that she believes staunchly. "Judge us as you like. I don't want this to become a fight over nothing..."

Youkomon stared at Alice intently, softly nodding her bestial head with the woman's words. "I see. I would perhaps have thought imilarly should I have been in your position, if I were faced with an unknown foe." the Champion level calmly spoke. She appreciated one who recognized what they wanted, but also when to fold the cards. Unlike the little Tsukaimon here... an indomitable spirit, though perhaps misguided.
She was mildly taken by surprise at how the human seemed so protective of the Tsukaimon. They openly admitted to doing things they were not proud of as well, it seems on the more pyromaniacal end of the spectrum based off what their partner spoke. Perhaps it was not so surprising to see the human exhibit such positive traits even now... sometimes the best traits of others comes out when they feel most threatened. Still, she was mildly impressed by their display even before her. "Interesting. It's not easy to admit one's own demons. That alone is a test of character that not just anyone can do." the kitsune commended the girl, nodding her head slightly in approval. "... You two carry a darkness within your hearts, but it's not a darkness I see as a threat to this land... at least at a glance."
The purple fox took a few steps back, sitting on their hind legs as their multiple tails flickered about occasionally, her stance less hostile. "Forgive me for jumping to conclusions. I am Youkomon, a guardian of these ruins. I had sensed something foul lurking in this area... but it is not you two." she politely spoke to the pair, glancing off into the Tsukaimon's defiant eyes... a mildly amused look on the vixen's face. "See? I'm playing nice. How about you join Alice and we talk like civil people." she teased the Rookie level, soon beginning to circle the pair.
"It is fair to wish to avoid violence. I prefer to stray away from it myself, however some individuals refuse to listen to reason at times." she calmly spoke, a whispering tone to the vixen's voice. "Let us both try to avoid that now... shall we?" the spoke, a coy smile on their face.

"I deal with them every day of my life. I know they're wrong, but that's why I fight back." Alice states this in response to the admission of her faults, knowing that her... Rather peculiar secondary hobby, formerly her primary one, is rather negative in ways. She almost reaches into her pocket, but stops herself, perhaps a sign of stress.
Dorothy tilts her head upon hearing that this dark colored, flaming fox wasn't evil. Weren't most things that looked menacing evil, she thinks to herself. "If I'm not evil... Then who is?" She seems puzzled, almost as if this is something she's never really experienced before. She seems frustrated that nobody's taking her as some sort of evil force, but the line about approaching things from a less hostile manner, at least openly, makes her look up at Alice for a bit and become lost in thought for just the smallest of moments. "How evil is it? Better be made of teeth or somethin'." Dorothy comments, wiggling her little legs and still looking up at Alice. "Ya can lemme go now..." Alice doesn't do so, causing her to make an annoyed sigh.
Alice looks back down at her Tsukaimon with a slightly puzzled expression before looking back up at the guardian. "You're not evil, you're just ill behaved. But yes, now you've got me curious... There's an evil presence here? Is it all right if I ask about that?" To the green haired woman, the mysteries just keep piling up more and more, a perplexing pile of questions. Almost too many of them. She makes a mental note to ask if Terminus has a library of some kind once and if she gets there, as it might help her answer at least a few of them. "...Though it doesn't surprise me that there are others more greedy and unpleasant than us also visiting this place." Alice glances around, as if to make sure whatever was mentioned isn't nearby. She doesn't mention that curiosity is also what brought her here in the first place, as that is likely obvious.

The Youkomon held a slight look of amusement at Dorothy's particular reaction to their words, a hint of naivety to the Rookie level's way of thinking. "Tell me little one. What is evil? Is it a feeling? A trait? Something you can touch? Someting you can kill? Do you wish to be evil? These are all questions that you should likely ask yourself before asking me, for each of our interpretations for evil may differ." the Champion level eloquently spoke, tails burning a slight bit more ferociously as she awaited the small creature's response. They were clearly child-like in nature, making the kitsune wonder... how malleable were they from the world around them? Only time would tell, and likely she herself would not get the chance to see it all in it's entirety.
The girl was wise enough to at least inquire about the potential threats that as of yet have been unseen; an intelligent decision for one planning to explore it's depths. Even Youkomon's own sharp sense of smell and knowledge of these ruins however was not all-knowing, and if something was still lurking about with malicious intent upon this site, she could not dawdle for too much longer. "This land tends to draw in individuals, not all benign as I am sure you'd imagine. However this place is far too large for even I to know all that lurks in it's shadows." the beast Digimon responded, gazing deeply at the pair. "If you seek knowledge of this place, I'm afraid it is not my forte. I am first and foremost a guardian, and I cannot spend a moment more here if something foul remains unnoticed."
The Youkomon soon backed off partially, moving out of the way of the pair's path. "I will not trouble you two any longer. However, I must offer a warning that you should both be wary. Who knows what else is lurking around these parts now. While you are free to explore this place, stay on the air of caution as other guardians may not be as open-minded as I. The deeper you delve into anything, the greater the risk becomes." she solemnly spoke, staring at Alice one last time. "May you find what you seek."
Sure enough, the fox Digimon retreated back into the inner depths of the ruined city with great speed, becoming little more but a quickly shrinking blur in a couple of seconds.

The naive and only somewhat innocent Rookie looks back to Youkomon, puzzled. "Huuuh. I always assumed I was evil 'cause that's what I'm kinda... Supposed to be." Alice finds this statement rather strange, looking back down at Dorothy with a worried expression, despite the fact that Dorothy doesn't see anything wrong with what she said. "It's what all the other Digimon I knew did..."
"So you're saying you didn't just pop into existence in my bathroom during the afternoon?" The green haired woman chuckles, seemingly pleased a bit with that. "Well, now I know a little more about you. What was it like before you met me? Actually, let's answer that later." Alice's worry comes from the heart, given her somewhat rough patches herself. Neither human nor Digimon are shining beacons of light. Quite the opposite, in fact, but they're far from anything close to evil. "I define it as actions that are truly unforgivable. Things that you can't justify, no matter what. But I don't really want to wax poetic about things, I feel like I do that too much in my own head already." Alice then chuckles, trying to smile despite the threats that lie ahead. A small part of her is even confident as her posture changes to reflect that, more firm and less fearful, finally letting go of Dorothy as she places a hand on her hip.
As the Youkomon leaves, Dorothy looks back to Alice, the Tsukaimon frowning slightly in a slightly more genuine as the two begin walking through the desert and further into the ruins to some extent together. "Humans are weird..."
"Why do you say that? And well, I'm still curious about what you were like before we met." Her Tamer asks with a bit of a shrug, knowing that she's going to have to draw the flaming fox in her notebook from memory, the beautiful, terrifying creature with such marvelous control over fire... Her thoughts go back to reality as Dorothy provides a response, and not a pleasant one.
"Why didn't ya lemme fight her!? That's all I want.. I wanna get stronger. I thought you'd lemme get stronger..." Like an angry child or perhaps someone who desperately desires to be in power and control, Dorothy whines and grumbles, almost shouting at times. "That's all I wanna do! Get better 'n fight, and ya just don't lemme do that!"
"I didn't let you because she would have destroyed you." Alice responds, looking through her notebook and then turning to a sketch, the single one Dorothy herself did... Of herself standing atop a pile of bodies with a little crown atop her head. "Why are you so obsessed with being some sort of ultra violent queen?"
"...It's how things are for us Digimon! Survival of the fittest. Delete or be deleted is what I've always known, ya know." She flaps her ear-wings to get back to eye level with Alice, finding trudging through the sand unpleasant. The pair of Digimon and Tamer soon end up hiding in the shade of a sealed entrance to a tomb or tunnel. The two aren't really that interested in it right now, though, with Alice sitting down and getting back to scribbling in her notebook, trying to draw the flaming fox and make sense of what just happened.
