Name: Invasion!
MPC Scenario: Welp, now we're in for it. The nefarious forces that dwell in the digital world have had enough of humans interfering in their lives and thwarting their plans, so now they've launched an all-out invasion through the Shibuya portal and are in the process of laying waste to Tokyo. This is it, the big one, now what will your characters do about it?
Requirements: As always, all Monthly Roleplay Challenges require 1000 words to be graded. You may do this alone, or with friends, as long as the thread contains at least 1000 words by all participants. That is to say, if you have multiple participants in a thread, everyone has to make at least 1000 words in total.

Monarch stood defiant, a good thirty feet from Shibuya’s train station and not-so-secretly-anymore a portal into the digital world. Monarch, the fusion of Basile and Cinder that reached the peak of human and Digimon potential, was a Gallantmon X. His overwhelming presence alone reinforced his allies, making them more resilient, making them do more damage and healing their wounds. His every swing slowed the enemy and he stood like a titan at the tip of the spear, he was the first line of defence, the vanguard for the human world and these invaders would feel the sting of his lance.
The Invaders. He had no other name nor organization to align them with, so he called them as he saw them. ‘The Invaders’ a stream of a Virus Type Digimon of all shapes, sizes and ranks spewed forth from the portal like an unstoppable wave of evil crashing against the shores, or in this case the surrounding buildings and environment. What once had been the heart of a thriving metropolis was war torn with Debris strewn everywhere, there was massive damage for a good 20 metres outside the train station before the Partnered Digimon and AEGIS had arrived to repel the invaders.
The Invaders were persistent if nothing else, they were an unrelenting tide, but they were nearly all Ultimate tier or below, the occasional mega popped up now and again but usually died immediately to the concentrated fire of every defender. Monarch sighed audibly as another Virus type dashed for the skies in hopes of avoiding wrath, a Metal Greymon this time. A blue-ish mish-mash of technology and flesh with damaged wings. Monarchs Lance crackled with ominous purple lightning as he thrust it skyward, in an instant the heavens answered his call and the Metal Greymon was struck by the thunderbolt racing back down to greet the earth.
The Greymon was a sturdy Digimon to be sure but being two tiers below it had no way of absorbing so much damage and staying conscious. It fell back down to earth, falling back first like a fleshy meteor about to touch down. There was just barely time for a heartbeat and then the near deafening impact of a Digimon crashing back down to earth, like Icarus plummeting back down to earth after flying too close to the sun. Monarch glared at the horde, irritation starting to poke its way through his façade.
It was time to end this and luckily for him, He had a perfect move to try out against this. With the massive structure of the Shibuyan train station, there was no way for this attack to miss either. Chuckling to himself, as he activated his ‘Empower Me, Minions!’ an angry red aura surrounding his form as the buffs that his allies had received quickly flowed through him, restoring his lost stamina, increasing his power and resilience. He started to channel a large amount of energy into his Holy Aegis which began to thrum with power as he faced the holy insignia forward.
There was barely time to react, Monarch had a hard-enough time just keeping the attack aimed properly as a near blinding beam launched from his shield, crossing the distance between the shield and the train station in less than half a heartbeat. The explosion as the beam impacted was deafening even to Monarch as what once was a beautiful looking train station, became smouldering ruin as the smoke started to clear. What Monarch wasn’t ready for though was the sheer mass of data that hovered there, and that was just a fraction of what had been there prior.
That realisation actually shook the bio-merge digimon as its fused personalities had their own separate reactions, Basile with the mind of a human and a very keen knowledge of history was reminded of something akin to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Cinder while not being able to draw a parallel for the horror she was seeing, knew that being responsible for that massacre was more disgusting to her than anything else she’d ever seen or bore witness to in her life time. Monarch froze as he registered what he’d just done, his irritation had just cost probably close to a hundred digimon their lives. Because he was irritated.
Even some of the other defenders were starting to give him looks of Fear, fear that what he’d just done was going to be repeated. Monarchs hesitation nearly cost him his life, as a black blur slashed at him with a sword. Just barely managing to get his shield up in time, mind still reeling he was caught by the enraged glare of an Omnimon Zwart, the Blade he wielded had the word ‘Termination’ engraved on it. As the two battled for dominance, sword clashing against shield the shockwave alone from the collision threw up dust and smoke.
Monarch lunged forward with his lance, firing off 8 ghostly versions of his lance, each shot being matched by a blast from the Garuru Cannon on the Ominmon’s other arm. The Virus Type snarled out a single word, fury dripping from his tone.
‘Die’
Taken aback from the hatred alone with that one word, Monarch made an error and was launched backwards off his feet and through a house by the Omnimon. The house, already weakened by the prior fighting, his impact was the final straw as it collapsed on top of him, not doing any real damage except to Monarch’s pride.
As Monarch staggered to his feet, his entire world exploded as the Omnimon gestured at him with his Grey Sword, the detonation rung in his ears, but he managed to stop the next flurry of slashes and counter with his holy Lance, managing to get a quartet of hits on the clearly Super Mega level digimon. As the Omnimon Zwart staggered backwards, Monarch Lunged forward again and managed to launched the Omnimon back into the initial combat area with a vicious shield bash. Breathing heavily as this Omnimon matched him blow for blow even with his power up, Monarch charged his lance and once again beseeched the heavens to smite his foe!
As the Lightning descended and struck the Omnimon a furious roar of anger echoed from the Virus Type digimon as it was struck by the same attack that had struck down one of its allies. As the dust started to clear, a vicious slash from a Grey sword cleared the smoke. The Ominmon didn’t appear to have really suffered any significant damage from that. Monarch realized this battle wasn’t over yet as the Omnimon spoke a single sentence.
‘You’ll have to try a little harder than that!’ With that utterance, the Omnimon charged Monarch, the Grey Sword glowed brightly with ominous green energy. With every slash the Omnimon made a projectile flew from the blade, meaning dodging was far more difficult then it should have been. Monarch had no choice but to duke it out with the Omnimon, exchanging blows and clashing with that ominous blade.
The Garuru Cannon on its other arm was used to keep Monarch off guard and always guessing, as proven as he froze the ground under Monarchs feet causing him to slip and Omnimon to send Monarch flying through yet another building. Monarchs fury peaked, the rubble around him exploding off of him as he rose, The Omnimon didn’t give him time to counter attack with any kind of melee strike as it fired an unbelievably powerful beam out of the Garuru Cannon roaring out the single phrase
‘DROP DEAD!’
Were there was once interest in his tone, Monarch was now enraged that his Virus type had the gall, the audacity to push him this far. As Monarch slid backwards, the ground giving under the force of the beam as his shield bore the devastating attack, Monarch kept sliding backwards until he hit another building, not quite hard enough to be pushed through the wall. But just enough to push him literally against the wall.
As the beam tapered off and died, dying in a sputtering sort of gasping death. Monarch heard the gasping breaths of its firer, Seeing the Omnimon on its knees. Physically unable to stand as he’d expended every ounce of energy it had left to try and take Monarch down. Monarch felt a small amount of pity for the Digimon, seeing his friends die and being unable to avenge them must have been devastating. But in the end, Monarch came to a grim realisation, he did what he had to do to safeguard the human world. It wasn’t nice, it wasn’t good, it wasn’t an easy realisation… but it what was right. Where he stood was where he would fall, where he would defend unto his dying breath.
As he charged up the same attack that had obliterated the train station, Monarch and the Omnimon had time for the briefest exchange.
‘I’m Sorry’
‘Save your apologies for someone who’ll believe them’
And then ‘Final Elysium’ erased what had been the only challenger strong enough to match Monarch blow for blow. As the invasion died down… Monarch couldn’t help but remember that scene… all that data. Just…sitting there…
