"Amelie... Amelie!" A voice suddenly interrupted the brunette's daydream. Her face turned to face the foreign voice, eventually finding one of her classmate's features, apparently looking half annoyed, half... worried?
"Uhhh..." Amy was a bit thrown off. She hadn't expected the sudden interruption. "What's up, Kanae?"
"Are you alright? You look a little bit pale?" Yeah, that was just like her. Maybe calling her classmate was a bit rude on her part, considering that they more or shared most of their classes and hung out somewhat constantly. "You aren't getting sick, are you?"
That was just like her. A somewhat annoying worrywart, even if... she appreciated somebody caring. "It's fine; don't worry. Did you want... something? Your classes should've ended some time ago."
Cutting straight to the chase, to the raven-haired teenager's dismay. A bit of a nervous expression was the natural response; she was pretty bad at hiding her intentions, wasn't she? "I was wondering if... I could borrow your notes from the design class? I kiiiinda..."
"You didn't pay attention in class." The brunette's tone was deadpan, even if she couldn't quite hide a hint of amusement on it. "Sure. But return them tomorrow. Midterms should be in like... two weeks or so?"
"Thank you! You're the best!"
A small, shared smile between the duo ensued before they parted ways. Why was she in Miyashita, again? If she remembered correctly, the last time she had tried this kind of stuff, it had ended a bit... abruptly, and on a pretty weird note. Oh well; at least she had met Asher last time, so the experience couldn't be considered to be that bad, right?
Maybe it was actually worse than what she thought. Still, the evening was nothing short of heavenly, the weather currently being way too good to just return home after a tiring university day; the sun had yet to set, and the sight of the many chessboards currently resting on Miyashita was more than a little inviting.
And so, she sat at an empty table, on the side where the black pieces rested. Maybe somebody would sit and play against her, just like last time. Maybe they'd just chat, or maybe... something entirely different would happen.
Life was a little too unpredictable at times, and that's what Amelie loved about it.

Walking through the park, Chie couldn't believe her luck for the day as her cousin decided to stay in town for a few more days, giving her much needed time off. However it had been far too long since she had a personal life, sh she was out of the loop. All her friends forgotten her or had their lives picked up and had no time. The most she had was the digimon she met a short while ago. She heard She had white earphones, just in one ear as it was connected to her Digivice in her purse, mainly so Do wouldn't be outright heard. For this, she was glad for the conveniently placed headphone jack.
"Ah come on, why can't we just go back to the Digital world? I want out of this!"
Chie, simply acted like she was talking on the phone as she walked through the park. "You know I haven't had a chance to just be a normal girl in months. You can wait a bit longer."
The DORUmon's pleas were falling right on deaf ears. He knew saying another word would be disastrous after following her home. Noting an empty chess table in the distance, she saw a what appeared to be a nice, young lady sitting alone at a chess table. Chie shrugged and approached the table, figuring she had nothing to lose. Seeing the glimmer in her eyes as she approached, Chie felt drawn to her. She muttered under hre breath right before getting within ear shot"Damn, she's cute."
Resting a hand on the opposing chair, she gave the nice lady a smile. "Hey, is this seat taken?"

It wasn't overly long until another teenager stood near the chair in front of her. Amelie regarded her with a small smile, gesturing at the empty seat. "Oh, not at all! Feel free to sit down if you want to."
She gave her potential opponent a quick look and, if she sat down, the brunette would proceed to introduce herself. "By the way, name's Amelie; pleased to meet you!" There wasn't much she could say about her, besides that she looked like she was a nice person, but other than that...
Guess that was why the chess board was there; after all! Meeting new people through games was a lot easier than... at random, she guessed. And with pleasantries out of the way, that would be the perfect time to ask both a simple and obvious question.
"So... do you fancy a game? Hope you don't me being a little rusty!" Not to say she hadn't ever dedicated a lot of time to the game, but that was better left unsaid, right? Not like she was interested in becoming a pro at it or something.

As the young lady introduced herself, Chie followed suite as she sat down. "I'm Chie, pleasure as well." Hoping to get along with her, after all, chances to meet people are surprisingly rare outside of store business. Sitting down, she analyzed the chess board quickly, plotting the first move. Either side had it's ups and downs, Upside to white is it makes the first move, a decisive blow early can be a deciding factor, but that equally opens it up to black going second.
As the young lady gestured towards starting a game, Chie laughed a bit when she said she was rusty. Chie also spent some time away from the board. "Don't worry, I haven't seen a Chess board since chess club when I dropped out of school months ago."
Do, was not exactly quiet as his voice boomed into her ear through her headphone, Chie gripped the other one one so Amelia couldn't hear. "You dropped out of school! Wow, that's just crazy!"
Chie brushed it off as she reached into her purse and pretended to press a few buttons, acting like she was turning something off or at least look like she was stopping the source of noise. She felt like she should've just left her digivice at home, but didn't wanna cause any trouble with her family due to it. Her hands slowly moved towards the chess pieces.
"Pawn to D4" Chie said as she moved the pawn forward.

Amelie acknowledged Chie with a nod as she sat. No way around it; she was a bit... surprised at the sudden drop of information, but the brunette wasn't a judgmental person. If Chie did what she had done, it must've been for a reason. And butting into another person's life when you just knew their name was probably the best way for a chess game to not happen, so...! She glanced the chess board for a second, observing the raven-haired teenager's first move, then thinking for a couple minutes; the truth was that she hadn't even thought about an opening strategy while sitting, and just now the gears in her head were beginning to turn; not to say that those were currently struggling with a fair bit of cobwebs. Eventually, she finally decided to make a move; her right hand reached a pawn, and with some doubt, moved it slightly towards the G6 position. "I... think I'll do that." She finally said, shrugging a bit. "Your move."Another glance was given at the chess board, Amelie making sure her movement at least made some sense before finally asking. "Do you mind talking while playing? I know for sure that some people prefer to play in silence. Either or is fine with me."

Chie shrugged, she was fine either way with conversing or not, she was just glad to be out of the house. "Sure, I wouldn't mind a little chat." Chie studied the board very carefully, thinking what she had to work with, thinking of what she could do and how it would go wrong. The teenager never let her eyes rest on a single piece for more than a millisecond as she didn't want to appear to lay out a clear plot, although it seemed like Amelia wanted Chie to take the opening.
Her fingers gently touched the knight on her right as she was deciding how it would be moved."So, do you come here often?" Chie figured the Chess moves the girl would make would be revealing, the pawn in front of the knight can expose the rook, but can make an escape for the bishop. Chie's hands drifted from the knight to the queen as she prepared to move it. "Queen to D3"

Somehow, Amelie had the impression Chie was taking this game a little too seriously. That was fine! And in all honesty, it sparked a desire to try her best, too. If her opponent was going in serious, the least she could do about it was honoring that request, right? Otherwise, she'd probably feel bad about it down the line. In any case, at least that didn't mean she was relinquishing the chance to talk about normal topics with the raven-haired teenager, either. She began to scan the chess board after Chie's move, making sure that she wasn't missing anything overly suspicious. What would be her move... At the same time, Amy found herself pondering the question coming her way; starting the conversation, huh? "Miyashita is a nice place; and in a sense, a nice way to get away from all the stress of the city and that stuff so... not super frequently, but it's usually my go-to place when I want to unwind a bit. How about you? You seem to be the type that enjoys relaxing."Ultimately, her hand grasped the bishop on the left side of her board and moved it just a bit; its final position was G7. "Your move."Those were definitely a couple of interesting first moves.

Chie almost laughed at the brunette's observation that she liked relaxation. She was hardly one to relax frequently, she remember spending many nights passed out on the couch only to wake up and go back to work, often in someone else's place. Gazing at the chessboard, she responded while contemplating. "Enjoying relaxation is not really a choice, I slaved day in and day out, seven days a week for months. Waking up every day at 6, working throughout the day, cooking throughout the night. Just getting outside in the daylight is a surprise."
Chie eyed her leftmost knight and moved it adjacent to her queen and pawn and moved it to C3.
"Your move.Honestly, I've been tense and out of prolonged contact with people who don't need a sponsor for a long time. Even when relaxing that stress does not fade.
Do was not exactly silent as she still made remarks from the digivice. "Tense is an understatement, you're back could break concrete with all that tension." Annoyed, Chie tried to give the voice buzzing in her ear no attention as she focused on the game, not wanting to leave suddenly because a digimon can't learn to keep his mouth shut.

Weeelp. This wasn't going to be an easy conversation, wasn't it? Talk about nonsense and stuff seemed like an impossible prospect at the moment. But it wasn't like Amelie would back out from the situation just because of that. Now, the question was... how to proceed? She'd figure out. For now... "That is fair." She pointed out, with a shrug. "Take this is one of those rare moments of respite, then? Guess it's a bit flattering you decided to spend it with me."And in a sense, it was. "Hope your situation eventually reaches good port, though. I know this may sound like empty optimism, but I guess that you don't want sympathy at the moment." The brunette herself wouldn't want it if she were Chie, and was doing her best effort at empathy. "For now, it would be better if tried to focus on relaxing, though! Being stressed for a long period of time it's not going to end well for you. What issues you have won't fade away whether you are or not stressed about 'em, too."The young woman grasped one of her pawns, moving it to directly confront Chie's own at D5. The game was beginning to get interesting. "Your move."

Chie wanted to relax as she did realize worrying had no impact on the outcome of an event, but her she felt her concern wasn't misplaced. However she went to reach for her phone to check the time but accidentally nearly pulled out her Digivice, just as she was about to pull it out of her purse she immediately dropped it back in. "Are you kidding me! If I could throw up right now..." Pulling out her smartphone she checked the time, odds are her father was done cleaning up and was already working on the day's order. Her cousin probably opened the store in his place during the typical morning events. "Rare doesn't even begin to describe it."
Analyzing the board, she plotted her next moves, but part of her was distracted by the thoughts of how the bakery is running. Some days business wouldn't move if she didn't pull other's weight. "My issues, each one is a long story ever since, never mind. Just wish I could have a normal life, not a prodigy, still in school, but sadly that's beyond me now."
Chie reached for her queen as she moved it to the right two paces. "Queen to F3"
Do on the other hand was starting to get impatient, waiting in the digivice. "Oh dear Omnimon, I thought you were playing a game, why is it taking longer than putting on makeup!" Chie's irritation was annoying to hide as she couldn't respond directly to the Digimon blasting his voice in her ear, but she didn't want Amelia to run or think she's crazy, after all, she just met the girl.

Definitely. This girl needed to relax byyyy quite a bit. She wasn't getting into details, but apparently, Chie's lifestyle went so quickly that a formula 1 car would blush in embarrassment. Definitely not something she was envious about; sure, her schedule was a bit busy, but at least she didn't look like she was about to crack under the stress at any moment from now. "The sentiment remains, then. Being a prodigy must be quite taxing, at least in the way you're exposing it right now." There was something that didn't quite fit, however. "Sorry if this is a dumb question, but... if you're so talented at what you do, who do you need to work yourself that harshly? One would think that you would find success pretty easily that way."Insensitive? Yes. A valid concern? Probably! But since Chie didn't seem to mind talking about the current events in her life, Amelie saw no harm in asking. After that question, she grasped the pawn that was directly in front of the bishop that she hadn't moved and moved it slightly forward to C6. "Your move."A small smile formed on her face. She couldn't predict where the game was going, but thus far, she was satisfied with her position.

When Amelia thought talent meant everything would be easy, Chie couldn't help but laugh a bit under her breath. Talent meant nothing when it wasn't all that mattered in this world, if it had no degree it's worthless. However Chie thought on the question and on why she worked hard. However that was a question wanted to say it was her own drive. Sadly that would be a lie.
"Alright, bear with me and it will be clear. Some time ago, my mother, was, well most unfortunate. The incident left her at the mercy of an arrogant surgeon who had never laid a scalpel onto flesh for the first time until my mother. He rushed a critical vein, and... "
She looked back to the wedding band on her left hand, trying to avoid the full pain of the past but she kept skipping over parts of her past. Figuring it better to get right to the point as she returned her gaze to the Chess board. "Anyways, without my mother around, there was a gap filled everywhere. My father took it the worst, outside of work hours, he's an alcoholic. Even when he's supposed to work early, he's busy throwing up. To make up for the lack of my mother, I had no choice but to drop out or let the family business go to ruin."
Chie grabbed the furthest most pawn as she slowly went to move it. "Being a prodigy doesn't affect stamina. Everyone makes sacrifices, unfortunately I sacrificed my life, my dreams, for my family. Pawn to H3."
Do, listening to the whole speach couldn't help but finally feel bad for Chie. Here he was giving her a bad time for replacing someone in his life and she herself was already filling in someone else's shoes. thinking to himself, "Wish I could help her."

A gentle nod followed Chie's own statement. For some reason, things weren't as simple as she had stated them; otherwise, life would be easy, right? And in some way or other, Amelie could admit that it wasn't. The full brunt of the story however, was quite... the shock, honestly. Death of a loved one was something no one should experiment; a solemn expression took over her features for a second. "My condolences." How that devolved into a situation that was way less than optimal was surprising, and even a little concerning. It definitely made her think. In the end, the core of her problem was something... relatively simple; money. It was probably a pointless question but... "Is that hard to earn a living? If you work that much, it must mean your family business should have a pretty... good income, right?"How one life's was supposedly forfeit that soon was something a little alarming; Amelie wondered if she couldn't help in some way... but what could she do? This was just a random person that had stumbled upon them for a game of chess. Was there really anything? "You shouldn't lose heart. Even if things look pretty bleak at the moment, the sun always rises and the rain always stops. You should persevere no matter what."She didn't know if that would be helpful or not, but that was just how life was. Picking up her bishop on G7, she moved it decisively towards D4, capturing one of Chie's pawns in the process; gently, she took the piece and placed it behind the edge of her board. "Unlike this game, thinking your life is already over would be a little disheartening, don't you think?"A bit of a teasing smile pulled the corner of her lips. What was life without humor?

Finance, the subject that gets tricky.as she didn't think it would be easy to explain all the details, but unfortunately things did not work out as easy as they would seem. Chie couldn't begin to describe the problems at the bakery. While special orders on the side were profitable, there were a number of drains aside from what one would expect of a business. "True, Money to keep stable is no problem, but issues are to the contrary. My brother, renounced his claim and cashed out on his small percentage of the business after he was banned from the work kitchen."
Chie kept her eyes on the board. Chie's hands touched the leftmost knight as she prepared to move it while continuing her tale. "My father's drinking is not exactly easy on cash. But even with what I take every now and then, I won't be able to leave for at least 6 years to star" my own business.
She moved the knight back as she ended her trail of thought. "With me being the most focused one there, and timing utter crap. My choices are limited for the meanwhile. That's enough about me for now. Knight to D1"

In the end, seemed that all her ideas were things that they already thought about, which was more or less expected. Everyone wants to get to a solution as fast as they can, after all. It was a bit arrogant to think that Amelie could just come and solve Chie's problems. But... was there any real issue with trying? After all, the brunette liked to help. "Huh. Sounds like your brother did something really bad if he was banned from the kitchen." She commented. Sounded like it was a pretty... dysfunctional family. Not like she could blame them, though. The sudden loss of a loved one could do that pretty easily. Not to say that... the situation didn't look like the best. "Well, I'm not going to lie and say that right now... it seems like you're shouldering your family. Ultimately, it's your choice, but... are you really fine with that?" Honestly, maybe Amy was mistaken but right now, Chie sounded really unhappy. "I'm probably judging your situation from an ivory tower but... kids shouldn't work their backs off every day. That's pretty much what adult life is about."Skipping stages wasn't something good right? For a second, Amelie seemed to be somewhat confused by her opponents' moves. They were unusually... skittish, at least for the color. In a game where white was called "the offense" and black "the defense", Chie's playstyle seemed a little too defensive. Was she walking into a trap of sorts? She didn't know and there was only one way to find out. Grasping a pawn, she continued to form an offensive formation and promptly moved it to F5. "Your move. But honestly, you should try to be a bit selfish there; if you try to seek happiness... who's gonna do it for you?"
