What the hell. What the actual hell. This was not Shibuya. This was not anywhere. This was – Gale did not even know where to begin. Only one thing was certain to her: she was not nearly drunk enough for this. The mercenary staggered out of the train without really meaning to, jaw hanging agape. She could not tear her eyes away from the bizarre assortment of things all around her. Things with wings, tails, claws, spikes, horns and antlers. Things that looked like animals, dinosaurs, insects and robots. Had she accidentally taken a train to the set of some new kaiju flick? More likely someone had slipped an illicit substance into her beer at the bar she had just left… Her leg connected with something and she cried out before planting quite ungracefully on her face. She sat up immediately, smarting from both the pain and embarrassment, to find the culprit was a pink ball. A pink ball with eyes. And a mouth. And weird ear-thingies. “Watch where you’re going!” the pink ball cried, irate. Gale frowned back at it. Damn it, with everything that was happening to her right now, she did not need to be sassed by one of these whatever-they-weres. “You watch where you’re going,” she huffed. She pushed back onto her feet and dusted herself off, trying to think of what to do, but the pink ball suddenly bounced in front of her. “You should say sorry, y’know!” it said. Gale’s frown deepened. Like hell she would. “Buzz off, soccer ball, unless you can tell me what in God’s name is going on and where I am!” At this, the infuriating ball’s eyes widened in sudden surprise. “You mean you don’t know what the Digital World is?” it asked. “Do I look like I do?” Gale shot back, quite loudly. Hopefully she would wake up in a minute. No more cheese sandwiches before bedtime, she decided to herself. Chie Takamoto

Chie and Do were walking through the station, considering catching the next Trailmon out back to Shibuya. Do asked the question that was bothering him since Chie said they were taking the trailmon. "Alright, why are we taking the Trailmon, you have a Digiport for Omnimon's sake." Chie sighed as she explained to him, for the ninth time why they were traveling physically into the human world. "Because, my Digiport is set to return me home, when there are places I want to go in the human world that are on the way."
However before Do could respond, the two heard a degree of shouting. The nearby digimon didn't react, most of them were used to humans freaking out, but Chie figured better to silence the matter if possible. Do didn't enjoy a fight in the Digi-core as much as the next digimon either.
When they approached, they saw a woman arguing with a Koromon. Do rolled his eyes as he could've guessed it was a Koromon. "Koromons, why does it have to be Koromons..." Chie sighed in disappointment. "Angry women, why does it have to be angry women..."
Chie looked at Do wondering why Koromons bothered him. "Is there something wrong with Koromons?" Do nodded. "Koromons often start the line of many hot headed Digimon."
The duo approached the fighting couple regardless, figuring better someone step in as she tried to speak calmly. "Alright, calm down, take a deep breath. Now miss, Koromon, take it slowly. What in the name of Angemon are you two arguing or at the very core, yelling about?"

Gale opened her mouth to argue further with the petulant pink ball when a new voice gave her pause. She turned and saw what definitely had to be another human, if the lack of talons, wings and extra eyes was any indication, one of the creatures following in their footsteps like a damn dog. As if the day could not have given Gale any more shocks. She might have been more annoyed at the kid’s attitude, but frankly she was too stunned at seeing another human to really think about it. She got right up in the kid’s personal space and pointed a demanding finger. “You, kid. Tell me what the hell is going on here. Where am I? How did I get here? And what’s the deal with him?” She gestured to the pink ball. “What did you say he was? A ‘coral-mon?’” “Koromon!” the pink ball corrected her. He turned his attention to the two newcomers. “She walked into me and doesn’t want to apologise!” Gale threw back her head with a long, weary groan. “Shut up!” she cried. “You aren’t even real! None of this is real! Can I just wake up already?” Chie Takamoto

As the panicking woman was starting to get right into Chie's personal space, Chie slowly pieced together that this was her first time in the digital world. She remained calm while thinking that the lady needs a sedative. Do was almost intimidated by the woman's outburst, keeping his silence as his expertise with angry women was clearly sub par if his experience with Chie taught him anything. Chie sighed as she stepped back, giving her some breathing room.
She made sure to answer the lady's questions in order in a way that could be easily understood. "Your in a parallel world, beats me but you probably accidentally hopped on a trail controlled by a Trailmon. He's a native to this world called a Digimon, Koromon is his name and species unless he decides to give himself an individual name. As for what's going on here, fate just abandoned you by letting you into this world."
Taking a moment to breathe, Chie turned back to the Koromon as he really could've handled this situation better. "As for you young Koromon, show some respect and courtesy. She stumbled into your world by accident, she didn't even know Digimon exist let alone that sentient beings that small until what I can only predict as a few minutes ago. Show some empathy."
Looking back to Do, she figured there's an easy way to prove to the woman this is real. "Do, I need a ball. Small one please." He nodded, unsure where she was going with this. "Got it, coming right up!" Do raised his claw to in front of his mouth as he spat out a ball made of iron and tossed it to Chie lightly, who barely caught it with two hands. Turning back to the distressed woman, she handed her the ball. "If you really want proof this isn't a dream, drop this ball on your foot. The human brain cannot process pain in her sleep."

Gale just stared all the way through the girl’s explanation, blinking in increasing levels of bewilderedness. A parallel what? Did this kid even hear how insane she sounded? How the hell was she so calm about it all? And yet, if Gale were truly dreaming, she was sure she would have woken up by now. The ground had certainly felt like the real deal when she had planted into it. It was completely crazy, bizarre and impossible, but she really must have stumbled into some other dimension full of weird monsters. As the girl suddenly directed her attention to the pink ball – the Koromon – he listened to her words and seemed to relax a little, nodding slowly. “Yeah, you’re right,” he admitted. He turned to Gale. “Sorry, human. Should’ve realised this was your first time here.” “Uh, thanks, I guess,” Gale replied, still struggling to process all this. The kid’s purple-fox-dinosaur-thing spat up what looked like a miniature cannonball. The kid held it out to Gale and suggested she drop it on her foot, to which Gale shot her an annoyed frown. “Are you asking me to break my foot?” she said. She waved it away. “No, look, it’s – it’s fine. I mean, it’s not fine, it’s crazy, but I believe you. This is real. I’m in some weirdass parallel world.” She let out a long groan. “Jesus Christ. I’m sorry I was rude to you just then, alright? I was confused outta my mind. You gotta help me, kid. You gotta, I don’t know, show me around here or something. Or at least tell me more about this place and the monsters here. Just enough so I understand...” Chie Takamoto

Chie was glad to see the situation start to dwindle down as the Koromon came to his senses, and the woman was freaking out on a smaller scale. She could tell this was going to be a long afternoon as she didn't know the story of what this woman was, nor could leave her without confirming her partner. She had concerns that the Koromon was indeed Gale's partner, but didn't want to imply anything. Figuring better to have this discussion seated, turned around and started to walk towards a nearby bench. "Alright follow me, keep your eyes on me for your own good, preferably at my feet so you don't harm any other fresh or in-training digimon. This world basically has no anger management courses so tempers are high."
Chie was more worried about the older woman's fuse being damn near the end, and the local digimon don't seem to be any more patient. When Chie walked by a particularly annoyed Penmon, she could tell he was not fond of all the yelling. When the penguin looked like he wanted to say something to Chie, she figured better to look like the predator here as she tapped the Digivice mounted on her wrist, he waddled away. Do looked surprised at the uncharacteristic action of his partner. "Huh, that's so unlike you."
Chie batted an eye to her partner beside her "Trust me, I'm just annoyed. Also these two caused a commotion that annoyed almost everyone here. Better to look like she's got a predator nearby. AKA you with my permission." Do was flattered but he still felt like he was being used, a very conflicting thought. Chie sat down on a bench against a wall as she gestured for Gale to follow suit. Do just stood as the dinosaur digimon couldn't sit comfortably against fall facing seats.
Chie started to fiddle with the cradle as she managed to open it so she could pull out her D-3 Digivice. She pulled it out to show the woman. "Well, first things first, you should have a device like this or the one around my digimon's neck. It's crucial you never let that go anywhere that you can't see or reach it. It's basically your lifeline in this world. Before you think of selling it, it's worthless to anyone else but you."

Gale followed after the kid, not knowing what the hell else to do. “I’ll come, too!” chirped the Koromon, merrily bounding after them. “Do you have to?” Gale grumbled, which the Koromon ignored. She kept the kid’s words about stepping on any creatures in mind and watched her feet closely. She did not want a repeat of the initial situation with this Koromon, who apparently now would not leave her alone. As she walked she caught some of the angry glares other creatures – what were they, ‘Digimon’ – were shooting her. She just narrowed her eyes back. Was it her fault she was upped and dumped in the middle of a freaking alternate dimension full of monsters? Was she supposed to just accept that like it was a perfectly normal thing without making any kind of scene? She sat down next to the girl, the Koromon immediately planting himself in her lap of all places. “Hey!” she protested. “Sorry, but there’s nowhere else on the bench,” said the Koromon, not budging. Gale suppressed yet another groan as the girl showed her some kind of colourful handheld device that reminded her of those electronic pet games that were all the rage in the nineties. “I’ve never seen one of those things before in my life!” she said. She suddenly felt the Koromon nudging one of her trousers’ side-pockets. “You sure about that?” he asked. “Ye –” Gale cut herself off. She had not noticed until that moment with all the insanity, but the pocket was definitely heavier than it had been when she left her home that day. She reached into it and, sure enough, she pulled out a device that was identical to the girl’s except for the colouring; the main body was fiery orange, the grips charcoal black and the screen and side-buttons gold, while the main button in the middle was white. Once again Gale was left speechless. “I – but – what? What does this mean?” Chie Takamoto

As the Koromon followed, it started to dawn on Chie that this was a match made in heaven, two load and rowdy beings partnered by fate. However it was clear they had a lot to work on when Koromon jumped on her lap and nudged her pocket. The multicolored D-3 was a clear indication she was a tamer. However since Gale had no memory of receiving it, Chie figured best to get out the golden rule of survival in this world for any human. "Yeah, forget the laws of physics. They especially don't apply to Digivices, some people got them when they 'fell out of a screen' from a computer or TV. You'll get a headache trying to figure things out."
Chie gestured for Do to walk in front of Gale while she prepared her digivice. "The primary function of the Digivice is to assist a specific Digimon a human is paired with, for life, in speeding up the process of an evolution called Digivolution. Digimon can Digivolve naturally, but humans with Digivices speeds up the process.
Do's tail started wagging as he thought he knew where this was going as Chie continued her explanation. Hoping he was gonna be a demonstration.
However there are several kinds, regular and armor. From what I gather armor borrows power from an object to reach a level just bellow the one above."
Chie looked like she was about to press the button to start the process but she then put her digivice back in the wrist mount. Do's ears flopped down as his tail stopped wagging. "Awe... Why tease me like that." Chie sighed as he thought it would be obvious."One, no way I'm digivolving you around when it serves no constructive purpose. Two, your personality changes when you digivolve to Fladramon, you'd instantly devolve back. Three, no need to risk starting a rumble in the capital of the digital world for god's sake."
Realizing they were getting off topic, Chie focused back on the subject of a digivice. "Besides being your partner's main source of power, the Digivice has some basic functions as well. GPS, it can receive SOS calls, and look up basic digimon information by scanner. Last you need to know is there are upgrades that can be purchased, such as a radio, vacuum storage to stuff a digimon in there, and remember you need something called a 'Digiport.' It will open a portal back to the real world. It's one of the primary ways to get back to the real world, and by far the easiest."

As Gale listened to the kid’s explanations she turned her new ‘Digivice’ over in her hands. She raised her head sharply when the kid mentioned the main purpose of these devices was to bond her to a Digimon. That explained why the kid had a Digimon following her, she realised. She watched intently as the fox-dinosaur walked around in front of her and braced herself for a demonstration of his power, muscles tensing, only for that not to happen. She wondered if she should be disappointed or relieved. “So you’re saying I should have a partner like him?” she cried. “But how am I meant to figure out which one of these crazy things that is?” She glanced at the assortment of strange creatures stomping, bouncing, buzzing and flying around them. If she had to choose, she would pick one of the dinosaurs or dragons or gigantic bugs. Something intimidating with a bit of power, at least. In her line of work it would certainly help – even if she had no idea how she would hide them. The Koromon loudly cleared his throat. She raised her eyebrows at him. “You’re kidding me, right? After how we hit it off?” That and he really did not appear all that powerful compared to many of the monsters there… The Koromon looked down. “Yeah, I don’t know how to explain it, but I feel kinda – I dunno, drawn to you. That’s why I didn’t just leave. And if you have a Digivice, well, that’s the only reason I can see.” Gale just blinked back at him. “You’re kidding,” she said again. “I was powerful once!” the Koromon declared. “It’s fuzzy, but I remember a long time ago before I was reborn like this I was big and breathed fire. I wanna be that strong again, and I’ll pair with a human to get there!” Gale raised her hands. “Okay, okay! Geez. I don’t even know what to say anymore. If you’re my partner, then, fine. Fine. It’s not like this day can get any weirder!” Chie Takamoto

As Chie watched the inevitable unfold as Gale slowly started to catch onto the concept of a partner. However during the whole ordeal she couldn't help but notice small details that slowly piled up in her mind. Digimon seemed to be drawn to their partners and their digivices. Do seemed adamant on denying it to the bitter end, holding onto the memories of his former partner. Relationships are built on trust, Chie was dependant on him for protection, she's lied to him ever since the day they met, hiding the truth of his past. However something bothered her to the point where she clenched her dress, trembling as she had to ask. "Do. Did you feel that same attraction towards me?"
Do turned around as he refused to answer her. Chie's trembling stopped as she asked a more terrifying question than the answer to the last. "Did you feel that way towards him?" Do nodded, Chie could tell what it meant without hesitation. Unclenching her fist, she muttered under her breath "I'm never good enough..."
Do however also let the other duo's words sink into him as he too finally reached a point where he had to say something to the Koromon. He slowly turbed to look at the Koromon in the eyes. "Remember these words Koromon and ingrave them. She's not your meal ticket to what you lost. She's your partner."
At the back of Chie's mind, she couldn't help but feel he was projecting his anguish onto the Koromon, but she couldn't prove anything on that. She looked at him, pitying him as he lost everything but he himself knew nothing of it. However this led to the next topic of interest. She took a slight breath while getting back to the topic of Digimon.
"Forms and metamorphic properties aside, digimon are not too different. Psychology is similar to humans mixed with their nature. Like Do is very canine and is easily subdued like a dog by the right person." Do was about to respond but as he opened his mouth, Chie dispensed a caramel dipped apple from her purse and through it to Do. He caught it straight in his mouth, grumbling as he chews. "Also they're subject to the same vices as any person. Greed, pleasure, love, etc."
