The moment before the red light turned green felt like an eternity. Iona barely managed to slide the keycard through the slot with a trembling hand. For a moment, she feared that she had the wrong card, and the door would not allow her entry. She would be left out to face the monster that pursued her. Turn Green. Please.
Cold yet comforting breath filled her lungs as she saw the red light of the small black box on the door in front of her disappear, and the green light take its place, followed by a dull click, which meant that she was home-free...or so she felt.
In reality, she was locking herself into a small office room on the floor of a dark, abandoned factory. A window on her right as she entered overlooked the workers during the day, but this dark night there were no workers, and the window was a liability. Quickly, she shut off her cell phone light and ducked beneath a desk, hopefully out of sight.
She struggled to control her breathing, even as her heart thundered in her ears.
She could hear it coming...
