I'm so very sorry for my disappearing act. I started working on my very first novel, but I greatly misjudged how much time and energy it would take. Since I left you high and dry for nearly 3 months, I completely understand if you want to pull the plug on this thread -- no worries! If that's the case, please let me know so we can cash it in.
Edit: I haven't heard from you in six months. I will be cashing this thread in for bits. If/when you return and want to RP with me again, feel free to message me!
When Scyrus said that they would spar when she finished her food, Birdie simply nodded, too lost in her own thoughts to really process what her companion was saying. She couldn’t sort out how she felt. She had never met someone so confusing before. First impressions were usually the only impressions. If someone made her angry, she would argue with them. If someone was pitiful or helpless, she would kill them. If someone was nice, she would avoid them. But this guy was different. He made her angry, not because he was confrontational but because of the words he said. He was too similar to her, and she was having to confront her own unfavorable traits. It was uncomfortable, to say the least. The icing on the cake came when Scyrus asked about her story, her life, her past. That flat, direct tone of his was so infuriating, but Birdie bit back vile words and lifted her eyes from the berry to meet the rabbit’s gaze. He was leaning in closer, his hands between his legs, and listening intently to what Birdie was going to say.
Something about his genuine curiosity warmed the Biyomon’s heart, but she didn’t say so aloud. The last thing she’d do was admit that, through his aggravating voice, word choice, and attitude, he had his charming side. For a split second, Birdie saw her tamer reflected in Scyrus: the almost childish way he sat, the wide eyes full of wonder and awe, the strange mix of emotions that Birdie couldn’t understand -- they were all reminiscent of Unica, the little girl who had loved her Digimon just because a Cutemon and an Astamon said Birdie was her partner. The whole situation was stupid, though, and Birdie rejected it. Partners were supposed to help each other reach powers unimaginable, but the only good thing about Unica was how quiet she was when she was asleep… and the way she complimented her partner by calling the Biyomon a “pretty birdy”... and the way she admired Birdie when everyone else in her life talked down to her. No, none of those things were as valuable as getting strong. Birdie needed everyone to respect her, and the only way she could do that was to obtain power and use force to get her way. Since Unica was more of a hindrance to that process than an asset, there were no hard feelings about Birdie abandoning her tamer at the Spartan Training Grounds.
Of course, Birdie wasn’t about to say all this to her companion. She wasn’t about to confess that there was a part of her that was actually beginning to miss Unica, and she wasn’t about to admit that, in a strange way, Scyrus reminded her of the little human girl. Instead of giving a real answer to the rabbit Digimon’s series of questions, Birdie forced a crooked smile and bit into the berry. She didn’t need to say anything for her to make her point. She wasn’t about to give up her life story that easily, and she was taunting Scyrus as a result. After taking a few large bites out of the fruit, Birdie was finished with her meal. She cocked her head and nuzzled the closing wound a few times with her beak before flapping her wings and testing their limits. With a shift of her weight, she rose and rustled her feathers to shake off any dirt or date which clung to her body. “Alright, tough guy. Let’s see what you’ve got,” Birdie said, the acidity in her voice no longer prevalent. She sounded excited and almost playful as she thought about having the chance to knock Scyrus around a few times, even if she wasn't a full strength. Being able to learn a thing or two from him would've been an added bonus. With one, two, three beats of her wings, Biride was airborne in a matter of seconds.
