The school day has ended slower than expected. After a dragged out final lesson which she and all the rest of the class had expected. The teacher who took the class spoke in drawn-out sentences making each word sit on the end of his tongue for longer than necessary. She had no club nor did she have cleaning duties either, which meant she was able to get some earlier than usual. As anticipated, the apartment was empty. Except for the fat ginger cat who looked up at Adri and purred softly. The fluff of bottlebrush tail rubbing against her legs as she walked from the living room to her bedroom. The bedroom was fairly large, a set of bay windows filled the entirety of one wall. A soft seat below it, coated in a mound of pink cushions. Similarly, each of the four walls was painted pink. One of which had a stem painted winding up it to a bouquet of flowers each a sunset orange or cherry red color. Her bed lay beneath it. It was as equally coated in cushions and plush toys. Adri moved across the room to the far side and stretched in the light of the sun that beamed through the window. She dropped her bag on the desk which sat in a corner of the room and scooping up the laptop centrally. Sitting down between the cushions that littered the bed, she leaned against the wall and opened the laptop. The screen lit up immediately. A strange flicker appeared in the top left corner and then again in the bottom tight. She blinked and it disappeared. Must have been a trick of the light or so she thought. Again, odd flickers appeared across the screen. Then, quite suddenly, odd words in a language that seems to be like none she had ever seen before appeared across the screen. Not that she could read it, though. For a second, Adri assumed it was some kind of hack or perhaps a glitch. Until, just a moment later – the laptop began to shake. Her fingers seemed to clamp down upon it and were unable to release the plastic shell. A light began to emanate from the screen. Quite suddenly, the entire bedroom was lit with piercing white light. So bright, Adri couldn’t even stare at it. She blinked. In that micro-second between beginning and end, the room faded. She could feel it, the bedsheets disappeared from underneath her as did the wall in which she had propped herself against. It all happened so suddenly, no human reaction would have been quick enough to perceive nor interpret. She opened her eyes, quite sure that the light had faded. What she found beyond that singular blink, was what could only be described as ‘free falling without a parachute’. A stream of soaring blue around her and below a twinkle of shapes. She blinked again this time, rapidly. Quite sure that she was dreaming. Yeah, that was it. She had fallen asleep and was having an insane nightmare. Any second, she’d wake up. Even pinching at her arm but still, nothing happened. She didn’t wake. Knowing this, Adri couldn’t help herself and let out a great, piteous scream. The ground grew closer and closer. She flapped her arms like a cartoon bird, trying to slow herself. “This is the wo -o-o-o-o-o -rst ,” Adri exclaimed, unable to do anything more than scream and shut her eyes tight. She struck the ground and quite remarkably, bounced, once, twice, three times. Adri landed facedown against something soft, springy and strangely familiar. Slowly, Adri sat up. Unsure if anything had been broken in the fall, But, she felt perfectly okay, which was quite startling considering from high she had fallen. Although, not everything had survived the fall. The laptop that had finally been released from her fingertips had seemed to take a majority of the impact. The outer shell was smashed and a crack lay across the screen. For a second, the laptop fizzed and whirred for a second but then faded to black and lay still and silent

"Amelie, Amelie! Wake up!"
A lone voice tried to pierce the brunette's consciousness, and thus far was failing spectacularly at it. She seemed to be soundly asleep.
"A-m-e-l-i-e!!!" Another attempt, vaguely recognized. A yawn ensued, and she began to stir. "Right now isn't the moment to sleep! The exam is tomorrow, you know?"
Yeah, that was Momoe's annoying voice. Her friend and classmate wasn't willing to give her a break, was she? In any case... as soon as she opened her eyes, she found a concerned expression gazing back at her. "Amelie, are you okay? It's like you to sleep while we're studying."
The teenager just decided to wave off the concern. "I have just been a bit tired as of late, okay? I'll be fiiine." Or at least that's what she'd like to believe. Mostly because soon enough, sleep seems to already have taken hold of her once again.
"Amelie! Amelie!!"
It was hopeless, wasn't it? Suddenly, Amy found herself opening her eyes, and finding herself in... a place she barely recognized. "Was that... a dream?" She asked herself, as she rubbed the sleepiness out of her eyes. "Where I am?"
Answering that question would prove to be quite easy, given that, as soon as she looked around, the unmistakable aspect of the Village of the Beginnings became quite obvious. How had she reached this place yet again? That was a good question, even if its answer was pretty much impossible to get, at least for now.
So, instead, the brunette decided to begin walking, her destination obviously being getting back to Terminus. Or, well, at least that was the plan until something that oddly looked like a human girl began to fall right down from the sky.
Maybe getting there and see if everything was okay was a better idea? Probably worth checking out! Her mind set, Amy began walking towards the direction where the fallen girl was, waving in an attempt to catch her attention. "Heee~y! Are you okay?"
With any luck, she would.

“Oh well, never mind then,” she said, a little sadly – tucking the damaged laptop back into her bag and then stood up. It was quite odd, the ground under her feet was so soft and buoyant. It was like walking in thick, gloopy, pudding. As she moved, her feet sunk further into the compressing ground. “Curious and curiouser,” she said to herself. Growing more intrigued by the minute. Then, footsteps sounded to her left. Adri turned, unsure what she’d see but quite curious to see what would come next in this crazy world. At this point, she was convinced anything could happen. “Oh...” she said softly. As over the top of the next bouncing hill, a shape that was definitely 100% human was walking in her direction. Arms raised and trying to gather her attention or so it seemed. To her sudden relief, Adri waved back. Again, growing curious to the fact that there was in fact, other humans. She took a few steps, wading through the odd floor towards the girl and smiled. “Hey. Oh yeah, I’m fine. I just… hmm… I guess fell? From way up there. But this soft ground caught me, didn’t even bruise. Lucky, huh?” “Although, I do have two questions if you don’t mind. Where are we?” That first question was clearly the most important after the strange events that had led her to this strange place. Of course, she had read books and seen movies where insane feats similar to this had happened. There was Alice who fell down the rabbit hole and ended up in Wonderland. The children who walked through the back of the wardrobe and found Narnia. Dorothy who after being struck by a hurricane, ended up in the Land of Oz. It well seemed oddly familiar. Not that, she had yet ruled out the theory that this was some very elaborate and realistic nightmare. “My second question is, why is the ground so…” Adri paused for a second to bounce the balls of her feet up and down. “...springy?” It was quite an accurate phrasing for the location, she had landed upon and thankfully so. If it had been anything less buoyant, she probably would have sustained a serious injury. With this, she looked closer at her surroundings for the first time. There was an odd amount of strange buildings around them. However on closer examination and with a single touch, Adri was able to discern that, they too, were foam. Similar to that of those giant toy blocks that you’d find in soft play areas in restaurants as a child. “Well, this is awfully odd. But, I guess it matches the rest of the curious things, I’ve seen so far,” Adri said, more to herself than to the girl at her side. “Oh, I’m sorry. I never introduced myself. Did I. I’m Adriana. But you can just call me, Adri. Everyone does,” she exclaimed, putting out a hand to shake.

After a casual glance, Amelie's new acquaintance seemed to be more or less fine, prompting her to exhale a sigh of relief; a human getting injured in what could very well possibly be their first trip to the Digital World definitely didn't sound like a fun experience. Glad to see that she was getting waved back, a small smile began to form on her face.
Once the gap between the two humans had been closed, Amy took a bit to catch her breath back before beginning to talk. "Oh, that's a... relief." Still short of breath, huh? Next time she'd probably have to warm up for a bit before running randomly in a stranger's direction! "At least it's a good thing that you fell here and not somewhere else. Can't imagine that fall being too nice if you had appeared somewhere rocky."
That wasn't worth thinking about for now, though! Probable horrible deaths and the chances of that happening to a normal human being at any moment were fridge horror at best. Not to say that the brunette had more immediate concerns, like the newbie's questions. At least that was easy enough.
"Well. I can answer both those questions but~" Or not so easy, maybe? This talk was a bit different every time. "I know it's rude to answer a question with another, but still. This is gonna sound a bit weird, but here goes nothing. I can probably get you back where you were before you fell to this place, and you could probably forget this has ever happened, and lead on with life normally."
She made a small pause, then continued. "Or I can tell you where we are and what this place is, and you'll get deeper into this rabbit hole. It's your choice."
Oh, right! Pleasantries. Amelie had kinda totally forgotten about them, probably due to her sleepy-ish stupor and the suddenness of the situation. Without losing time, she just shook Adri's hand. "Pleased to meet you, Adriana! My name's Amelie, but you can call me Amy if you wanna."
How would this go? That was at anyone's guess.

Adri laid her hands behind her head, staring into the girl’s oddly captivating, deep blue eyes. She was slightly taller than Adri and seemed to be a few years older. Many questions flooded Adri’s mind but she bit her tongue for the minute and waited until her first set of questions had been answered. The two girls shook hands as the girl introduced herself as Amelie or Amy for short. Also, Adri couldn’t help but notice the use of her full first name, rather than the nickname, she had offered. Not that it really mattered. The set of answers received from Amy were quite cryptic. It seemed to raise more questions than it answered. Would he rather forget about all of this, admittedly strange, place without even learning what happened and why she came here in the first place? That seems like backward logic. Tilting her head slightly in thought, Adri took a second to reply. It was almost as if she was pausing for effect, however, she was just making a decision. “I’d like to know what’s going on.” “It’s all quite confusing. I was in my bedroom, just after the end of school,” Adri said thoughtfully, spelling it out event by event. “I got my laptop from my desk and turned it on. Oh yeah, a strange assortment of letters appeared across the screen – definitely not any language I’ve ever seen. Then, the screen lit up and it was so bright, I had to close my eyes. By the time I had opened them again, I was falling from up there.” She looked up at the clear, cloudless stretch of blue above, suddenly so serene. “Finally, I landed on the oddly bouncy floor,” she concluded. “I mean I’d really like some answers. I don’t think I’m dreaming nor do I think I’m hallucinating.” Although just to be sure, she pinched the skin of her forearm hard. Nothing changed. “So, Amy. I’d really appreciate your help,” Adri added, a warm beaming smile cutting across her face.

That was how it was, wasn't it? For a second, Amelie's gaze focused on Adriana as she thought on how to go through this speech. Why didn't it get easier with each time? Frankly, the brunette had no idea.
Eventually, her features hardened a bit, only if to convey she was serious about what she was about to say, and not some kind of random joke. "You'll probably think I'm insane after this, but at least bear with me while I explain this whole deal. Then you can stare at me like I'm a lunatic and run away if you wanna." A small pause, and then she began. "Your laptop basically sucked you into a fantasy world, probably on par with your wildest dreams."
Were the first signs of utter disbelief already in Adri's face? It was too late for Amelie to back off, anyway. "A parallel dimension, more or less. It's called 'Digital World' if you wanna give it a name, and every now and then a human is sucked in; getting out of it is easy, but take into account that you might've been... 'chosen'."
Yup, totally not sounding like a cult of sorts! In all honesty, Amelie had a hard time when trying to swallow this for the first time, and could understand if the younger girl was in the same situation. "Basically, if a strange device that looks like a futuristic pager has appeared in your person while you were falling down, it means that you're destined to be... 'related' with a number of this world's denizens. Usually one."
Was this getting too heavy? Hopefully not. The brunette gazed to the side for a second, taking a glance at the endless expanse of eggs not very far from where she was. "Mind you, this world's denizens can be pretty much anything, and most of them are sapient. There are many ways to go about it, but that probably doesn't matter once the pager appears on your person. Oh, right; that thing is commonly known as digivice if you were wondering about it."
As if to prove a point, she brought out her own; a pink and black device that was a bit bigger than the average D-Tector, which in turn was probably among the bigger digivice models. "Yours might not look the same, but at least it should give you an idea of what to look for." By now, if Adriana hadn't run away after that whole string of nonsense, Amy would sigh. "So... any specific questions you might have about this? I like to think I'm fairly knowledgeable about this world, so I'd be glad to help."

Adri listened intently as Amy began to explain everything she could about the mysterious world, she now knew as the Digital World. A strange parallel dimension, almost like a real-life fantasy game. It seemed illogical but her laptop had drawn her into the world, although, with that blinding light and then the fall, it did make some sense. “Wait a second,” Adri said, pausing to take in what Amy said. “Chosen? Chosen to do what, may I ask?” I mean that part hadn't been explained yet. Was it like one of the Roleplaying Games like Dungeons and Dragons. Did she have to complete some kind of epic quest, defeat a dragon and save a princess from a tower? Amy continued to explain about the denizens of this mysterious world. She explained that they could be ‘anything and they were sapient’. Adri couldn’t help but look around for the sapient creatures that existed in this world. Finding herself, growing more and more curious as the minutes ticked by. “A Digivice?” Adri asked, her head tilting ever so gently to the right. Amy held up her own Digivice which was a fairly large, phone-like device in black and pink. Subconsciously, somehow, she knew exactly what to do. Her hand fell slowly into the pocket on her skirt and from within the depths, she drew out a tiny grey device. Compared to Amy’s device, it was positively minuscule. It glittered in the palm of her hand as if it was brand new. “You mean this?” Adri held up the device with thumb and index finger so that Amy could get a better look at the strange device. As if, it had been waiting for her to draw it out. The odd device let out a loud beeping noise. It was quite like an old tinny metal detector leading her to the hidden treasures possibly buried on a beach. Adri stared at the tiny screen which immediately lit up. A tiny map made up of thin red lines glowed on the screen. In between the boundaries of the map, a tiny circle of light glowed ominously. “I guess, I’m supposed to follow it?” The map appeared to lead to the odd place with the bouncy floor.

Well... apparently, Adriana was buying the whole 'Digital World' deal pretty readily. No matter how often it happened, it was always a bit surprising for Amelie; she always thought that if that had been her case, no matter how hard somebody had tried to explain her the circumstances of Digimon, she'd have just dismissed them as a lunatic's ravings.
It was a good thing that her own circumstances had been kinda different, hadn't them? Right now, however, that didn't matter. What mattered was that a question had been asked and that the brunette, naturally, had to answer.
"I have no idea about the purpose of the so-called 'Chosen', in all honesty." She shrugged, as if to punctuate her statement. "Most digimon refer to us as that, however. Who am I to correct them? Maybe just chosen to get the 'privilege' to visit this world, as far as I know. But that's just a wild guess; take it a grain of salt."
The good side was that Adri wasn't just buying her whole story, but actually paying attention! That was probably the most unlikely result in the brunette's mind, so she just stared at the redhead's own digivice with a bit of a dumbfounded expression before breaking out of her reverie. "Yup, that's it! If I am not mistaken, you having that kind of device means you're destined to be 'partnered' with either one or two digimon." Even though that wasn't an exact science, and she could be mistaken! "Who knows, maybe your partner or partners are in here. This place usually hosts-"
Yup. cut mid-explanation by the device's beeping; however, it wasn't like it had a legitimate better reason to do. A signal meant that Adri's partner was near! Amy hummed a positive response before adding. "Yeah; your partner or partner's egg should be wherever that device points; it's interesting, but the connection between the two is really strong, so the chances of it being mistaken are really low."
For a moment, the brunette wondered what kind of digimon would her new acquaintance get. That could be pretty interesting!

Adri laid the tiny Digivice on her palm as if it was a compass, allowing it to direct her and Amy in the right direction. “It’s pointing that way,” Adri exclaimed, excitement beginning to mount. The Digivice began to let out a rhythmic beeping noise as they began to walk together. Although, Adri had no idea what kind of ‘partner’ she would find on the other end of the map it was very exhilarating, indeed. It felt like when they went to the shelter that one time in Adri’s youth. Her adopted parents told her to pick out any cat, she liked. She found one quickly, or rather it found her. No-one wanted to adopt it, perhaps due to its unusually squashed face and bottlebrush tail but it instantly took a liking to Adri and that was that. “Did you do the same?” Adri asked Amy. Curiosity bubbling up inside her. Is this how it worked for everyone or was it different every time. For a few minutes, they walked down the strange road which was exceedingly bouncy and springy, which did make it, difficult work. As they walked, shadows began to appear in the distance. Large buildings in a circular pattern, each of them as colorful as the next. The towers looked like oversized, stacks of building blocks – each imprinted with a different child-friendly design. Rabbits, cats, frogs, turtles, clouds, apples, cherries and other such shapes were brightly visible, even from a distance. Large balloons floated above the town in all manner of colors and shapes. “Wow, this place is amazing,” Adri said, her eyes wide and excitedly trying to take everything in at once. “So, my partner? What would it be?” Adri asked, unsure what to look for. Adri walked forward and saw an even more amazing sight. Across the soft, bouncy ground lay a mass of large and very colorfully designed eggs. There must have been at least a hundred scattered around. Looking to Amy for guidance, she asked, “So that’s what I’m looking for?”

Soon enough, they were well on their way towards finding Adriana's partner! Even if Amelie herself had been witness to this process a fair bit of times, she had to admit that each time, there was this peculiar sense of excitement that was really hard to drive off. She was already beginning to think about how the newborn (or not so newborn) would look, and what kind of digimon it might be. A reptile, or maybe a mammal? A machine or an insect couldn't be ruled out either.
At least until her thoughts were stopped by a somewhat sudden question. Not entirely unexpected, but her first answer was to smile with an almost imperceivable tinge of sadness, then her hands slowly reaching for the back of her head, in an apparent nonchalant posture. "I did not, and probably never will. I've just been around newborn digimons hatching and humans getting their partners a fair bit of times."
Hers had been a different fate; one that didn't involve companionship, at least not in the strict sense of the word. Had that comment made the atmosphere a little heavy; that wouldn't do. Amy's smile and stance took a more truthfulness, one hand proceeding to wave off her own comment. "Don't worry about it, though! Everyone gets to do different stuff as soon as they get digivice, but that's probably something that should be explained later; right now, we should focus on finding your partner!"
Almost on cue, their surroundings slowly changed into a more 'urbanized' version of themselves, if they could even be changed that and soon enough, the endless expanse of eggs became obvious to the duo. No matter how much one got to see it, there was no denying that it was completely breathtaking.
"Yup." The teenager limited herself to answer to Adri as they began to walk towards the expanse. "Honestly, I'm not very sure about it, but you should feel... an egg calling to you, or something of the like. Maybe even a baby that's surprisingly happy to see you? That would work too. As you can see, it's not an exact science, but I'm sure you'll find your partner soon enough."
Being encouraging was the least the teenager could do, after all. And it wasn't like she was mistaken, even if this could probably take them their fair bit of time.

As Adri walked forward. The number of eggs seemed to double, even triple as more of the landscape came into view. An endless stretch of land filled to the brim with eggs each with a myriad of patterns. Some with stripes, some with circles, triangles, hearts, stars or other shapes. To search through all of these, seemed like it might take some time. “Hmm,” Adri said, looking out over the scene. “There sure is a lot, I hope I can find my partner. I want to get to know them and then we can be friends. That’s the point, isn’t it?” Adri looked to Amy for confirmation on whether she was correct in her thoughts. Thankfully, Amy gave her thoughts on the matter. “I’ll hear it calling to me? Really, huh...” Without another word, Adri closed her eyes and leaned her head back. She breathed in deeply and then out, keeping her eyes, tightly shut. The Digivice was pressed against her heart. It let out a slight beep but didn’t seem to indicate anything further. Upon her second breath, she felt something. It was like a twinge in her heart. Like, when you’re really excited, like for Christmas or a Birthday or other… other things. She smiled, her eyes closed and breathed in again. As she exhaled, she felt it again. “Over in that direction,” Adri said, but it wasn’t her own voice. It was slow and robotic, almost trance-like. Her hand rose and she pointed across the field towards the very back. The back row of eggs. She opened her eyes and then shook her head. “Sorry I think I dozed off for a second there,” she said smiling, a little awkwardly.

Everything seemed to be going pretty well! Then again, what could go wrong with something as simple as searching for an egg? Sides it taking them some time due to the nature of the Village; Amelie couldn't think about what.
"Don't worry." The brunette reassured. "We'll find them eventually! And... yup, that's the deal, more or less; there are times where partners aren't interested in becoming friends, but thus far I've seen everyone mellow down given enough time. Being bound for life more or less does that to you, I think."
Then again, her own experiences with the beings that were bound to her were far less than optimal, but that was something not really relevant at the moment. What mattered was to find the egg, and then making sure that it hatched into a good baby. And coddle them a lot, of course! That is what babies are for, after all.
At least until..., she seemed to get a clue! Nevermind that her tone had gotten slightly weird even if that prompted a raised eyebrow coming from Amy at first, then at her being pretty confused once she said she had dozed off.
"Uh... sure. It's not an issue!" Strangeness aside, that probably meant they were close. "So. Do you have anything? You seemed to be pretty sure the egg was here."

Adri smiled at Amy and following her own instructions, walked forward. She slowly edged between the eggs which littered the glade ahead of them. Each one painted with a different pattern, or a slightly different size. But none of them felt… right. She looked down at her Digivice for another clue. As if responding to her plea, it beeped and zoomed in on the map. A red ‘x’ appeared over an egg straight ahead of them. “Huh, I guess, ‘x’ marks the spot,” she said, shrugging. She showed the Digivice to Amy and pointed her over to the one, that she now knew it was. “I think it’s that one. Right there!” She bent down over a shimmering red, almost scaled egg. Adri wrapped her hand around it. It was oddly warm to the touch. “It’s definitely this one.” “So, uh, now what do I do?” She said, holding the egg out and looking up at Amy. A little unsure and confused. “Do I crack it open. I guess not. Maybe I have to rub it and make it warmer. I don’t have to sit on it like a chicken, I hope.” She was spurting out all the odd ideas that came to mind and would make sense in this world.

So far, so good! Amelie could feel that they were closing in and that they would probably get to the egg soon. Adri showing her the digivice and the red X appearing on it was a dead giveaway. Soon enough, they'd be there!
"Yup. I'd say it does." She smiled a bit as they slowly trod through the field filled with more eggs than what she could count. Eventually, the girl seemed to find the egg, and as she began to cradle it, Amy thought that an explanation was in order, especially given that one of the proposed answers had been to... well, crack the egg open.
"That's where my knowledge about Digimon runs out, sadly." She couldn't but frown a bit. "But! I know for sure that you gotta take care of it and definitely not crack it open. Maybe just making sure it's safe until it hatches is for the best!"
Did eggs really need warmth? Amelie wasn't entirely sure and definitely didn't want to risk giving the wrong advice. In any case... "I'm not sure of how much time it'll take for it to hatch, though! But... patience is a virtue, right?"
There was one question that lingered in her mind, though. What now? Which was apparently a pretty easy solution, at least given how Amelie's D-Terminal began to beep. "Huhhh, can you give me a second?"
Oh, an S.O.S. call coming from the Forest Nearby. This could be pretty urgent. "Hope you don't mind; something urgent sprung up, but... I'll be right back, I think!"
There wasn't much time to get fancy with explanations, mostly given that this shouldn't take a lot of time.
Even though... it ended up doing; by the time Amy got back to the Village, a bit worse from the wear, Adriana was nowhere to be found.
Well... tough luck; maybe she'd see her again at some point.
Or maybe not at all. [Exit Thread]
