Leith's Adventure Begins: The New Tamer (Open)

One month down... God only knows how many more. Leith Crowther was not transitioning well after the move at all. The last time he'd seen the big city, he was just a toddler - and halfway across the world in the USA. Even at his age, though, Leith lacked some of the necessary living skills to live on his own, which is why when his parents both got new jobs in Tokyo, Japan, Leith, who had only been 19 years old for a month when it came time to pack, was forced to accompany them. There was good news, at least: he had gotten into the University of Tokyo, allowing him to continue his studies.
The bad news was Leith was starting completely from scratch; no friends, no local family, and - perhaps worst of all - not a single word of Japanese beyond "Hello," "Thank you," "Goodbye," and "I don't speak Japanese." That was almost completely fine with Leith; after all, his idea of the perfect day was staying inside in front of a TV all day. But that wasn't fun 24/7, and with classes not picking up for months longer, Leith had a lot of time to kill. So, one day in mid-June, he tried something new.
Miyashita Park seemed like a place just busy enough to not be alone but not too busy to be chaotic or intrusive, or so Leith's parents suggested. The young man always did enjoy taking his practice amp onto his porch and blasting his guitar, so he thought he'd try it at the park. Maybe if he was extra lucky, someone likeminded would be drawn in by his metal tones and love of loudness, and if he was really watched by the stars, they'd speak English.
At some point, though, Leith looked down at his feet and saw an odd device. It looked like a cross between a smartphone and a walkie-talkie, most black but with lighter blue edges and buttons. In any case, Leith didn't think it was his, so he stopped playing, picked it up, and shouted, "Hey! Has anyone dropped this?" around himself while holding it up. Of course, he was yelling in English, and Leith didn't know how long the little machine had been laying there, but he supposed he still had to try. Maybe it was really important to someone.

Haru would have never thought in her life that it'd have gone this way... The Digital World was one of those things that had sort of ingrained itself into her life in a manner that was almost invasive actually. Still, it wasn't that she disliked the Digital World... but ever since a few months ago, her life really had changed.
Miyashita Park was actually one of her favorite spots in Shibuya, primarily as it was one of the more quiet places where she could think. Given, she wasn't alone right now... Following the goggle-wearing young woman as they carried a laptop bag was a long-haired blonde girl garbed in a yellow dress, a slightly impish smile on their face.
"Medea, you know you know you didn't need to come with me... I came here for peace and quiet so I can do a lil' work, okay?" the girl commented as the pair strolled amid the park, she trying to find a spot to take a seat down. Her intent was to try and maybe take some time to analyze some of the entries within the database of the Digital Field Club, specifically the ones she had inputted in. The Digital Field Club had a database of all Digimon the team had scanned, though it only offered surface level information... it was just their job to figure out specifics.
"What? I can't tag along tuh keep ya company or somethin'? I can be plenty quiet! Quiet is practically mah middle name!" the girl squeaked out in a strange accent, their Japanese clearly very off.
"Somehow I doubt that..." Haru somewhat snidely, a slightly digital laugh coming from the D-Arc by her waist pocket. She seriously doubted the claims of the holosuited Digimon... At least Tawna was usually quiet so she could think straight. However before she could try and continue any further, she paused as she heard someone speak something decidedly non-Japanese. It... kinda sounded like English, but unfortunately her own English was too god awful to grasp just what they were saying. Her head soon turned towards what she could only assumed was the owner of said voice... a relatively young brown-haired man holding what she could immediately identify as a D-3.
Medea on the otherhand seemed to grow excited, their mischevious smile growing in width as their eyes seemed to gleam. "Ooh! An American! He has one of those doohickeys yuh taymah human-folk have! I always wanted tuh practice mah English!"
Haru raised an eyebrow at the disguised BlackLunamon, actually finding that hard to believe. The moon rabbit was normally somewhat of a hinderance (though Haru didn't have the heart to shoo them off... it was clear that despite being an independent Digimon that they seemed to heavily value their friendship), so it was somewhat surprising to actually hear that they might have had a use here. "W-wait... You can speak English?"
Medea let out an impish giggle, one probably able to imagine their ears wiggling right now if they were not currently taking on the shape of a human with their holosuit. "Well duhhhh bawss. My cute looks aren't de only ting I have! Yuh got me so fahr? Just give me a minute tuh wow him wit' my authentic dialect..." the holosuit-wearing Digimon spoke, briefly coughing to clear their throat as they sure enough began to approach the young man. "What is happenin' my homie, fawhizzle? My thot here was wonderin' where yuh got dat slick piece of tech yuh pilfered, and she is totally swaggin' wantin' to know!" they immediately began to speak back in English, albeit their accent a bizarre butchering of New York and Brooklyn all in one.
Somehow... Haru go the heavy feeling that Medea was saying something stupid, but she couldn't be sure...
((OOC: Medea's speech that is Georgia font and italics is English, regular speech being standard Japanese))

Haru was right. At least the young man was able to recognize the language as English, but, by God, it was so awful and nonsensical vocabulary and accent that Leith almost didn't understand it anyway. As relieved as he was to see an English-speaker - maybe even American by the accent, Leith thought - that voice was truly nails on a chalk board to his ears. If the fact that the 'girl' spoke his language wasn't enough to keep his interest, though, she was certainly loud and brash enough to at least be interesting, maybe even worth meeting.
Of course, Leith was a little too surprised by the whole thing to respond immediately. For a few seconds he just stood there and faced the girl in the yellow dress looking stunned and confused. However, he then flipped the switch on his modeling amp to turn it off and get rid of the annoying hiss, then lay the guitar that had been still slung around him down in the case resting on the bench beside him. "It's, ah, a Schecter Damien Elite. It's, uh, kind of a funny story, actually: when I asked for a seven-string guitar for Christmas like three years ago, my parents and my grandma both got one without telling each other. The pickups are EMG's, but the amp's nothing special. Just a Line 6 Spider - and, yes, I know the reputation Line 6 has." The fact that Leith got to talk about his musical equipment actually made him feel real good and comfortable, and he visibly relaxed a bit. "You play, too?"
At that moment, the little device Leith had picked up in his hand beeped a little and reminded him of its existence, calling his attention to it. It was only then the young man realized just how great a faux pas he had committed; the girl in the yellow dress wasn't asking about the black and blue walkie-talkie-thing. Ah, shit... I'm stupid, Leith scolded himself as he sucked in some breath. "Oh! This. Uh, I, I dunno. I just found it lyin' around." He held it out, then, to give the pair a closer look at it. "I'm guessing it's not yours, or you would know what it is already... which kinda sucks, because it looks expensive, and I have no idea what it is myself."
It beeped again... and again... and again. The beeping became incessant. Then the screen began to glow... until the brightness became so high that it was really more of a bright flash. "Agh! Geez," the darkly-clad young man groaned as he covered it with his hands to protect his eyes. "And, as you can see, I have absolutely no clue how to work the stupid thing either." Leith shrugged as he went on, "I guess I'll turn it into the police or something, because it really-" Leith's voice had to rise in order to be heard over the beeping, but as the volume rose still he gave up. Good thing anyone bothered by the noise was repelled by his playing long ago.
Leith couldn't let it go on, though, so he began devoting all his attention to the machine and experimenting with buttons. "Hey, sorry, I'm tryin' to-" That was when out from the screen, somehow, shot an egg - no ordinary egg, though. This one was blue like an bluebird's egg, but in terms of size it was more like an ostrich's! Leith barely had the coordination and presence of mind necessary to grab it before it hit the ground. "Holy sh-!" he cried as he caught it. "Did you just see that?"
But the craziness didn't end there. Despite Leith's careful crack, the egg hatched. The young man moved his guitar out of the open case, then, so he could put the egg inside instead. That was when it didn't so much hatch as burst into so many little pieces that the young man couldn't find where they ended up. Out from the egg had apparently come... a blue blob of some kind. But yet, things got still weirder: the blue blob had a face and eyes, which it used to make eye contact with Leith. Then... It heartily greeted him, "Hiya!"
"Holy shit!" Leith cried as he slammed the case shut, trapping the slimeball inside.

While it did seem the young man could understand Medea, frankly it did seem there was a bit of miscommunication here. Judging by the confused look on Medea's face at the time, it was rather clear that they weren't exactly on the same page as them, especially regarding their guitar. "Uhhh... I din't get a wawhd of dat tuh be honest. Guitar is neat though.” they spoke, though did visibly flinching from the amp being turned off. Even in this form, they were still quite sensitive hearing-wise. Medea immediately turned towards Haru, switching back to butchered Japanese. "What do spiders got tuh do wit' guitars anyway bawss? Dis some human lingo I'm missin'?"
Haru seriously felt she was missing something here, though it did seem that the conversation managed to get back on track as they held out the D-3 towards them. It... didn't sound like they really knew what it was, least just going off their tone... though that brought up another issue entirely. The fact they didn't even speak the same language just was gonna make this way more awkward than it should have been. She glanced at Medea, the disguised individual letting out a slightly annoyed sigh.
"He's sayin' dat he found it and doan know what it is... Do we tell him, or what?" she ended up translating for Haru, though before they could really go any deeper about the conversation... the Digivice seemed to spring to life as it spat out a Digiegg, just barely caught by the man. As if that weren't enough, damn thing straight up hatched right in front of them, a Chibomon specifically. "Well, hello." Medea spoke in English with a somewhat dull expression, as if for the most part only mildly surprised... though seeing the newly-born Fresh level get trapped by the panicking young man.
"A-A Digimon?!" the girl exclaimed, actually visibly caught offguard by the egg's sudden hatching... Despite the language barrier, the word Digimon was romanized enough that it was clearly distinctive from typical Japanese dialect. Regardless, this was an extremely awkward situation to be in... How the hell was she supposed to explain what was going on when she couldn't even freakin' speak or understand English? "Medea, t-tell him to calm down and open the case... We can explain this, but you have to translate." the goggle-wearing girl immediately directed Medea, her face growing a bit serious.
"... Geez, really makin' me wawhk here baww. Ya' dig?" Medea somewhat snidely spoke back to Haru, briefly sticking her pinky in her ear before glancing back at Leith. "Okay, so. My bawss and I here know whats up, butcha gotta take a chill pill and trust us. Right? Also uhh, let de lil' guy have SOME fresh air, okay? We kinda have tuh breathe too, ya know." they immediately turned and translated for Leith with a casual tone to her voice. After all, it wasn't really surprising to see another Digimon when you ARE one.

"What the hell?" At least the guitar case wasn't zipped, so by jumping alone, the little blue slimeball was able to open the case enough to make it away open. Compliant with Medea's suggestion, he let it stay open but regarded the little blue digimon warily, backing away a little and standing beside the pair of girls while keeping his eyes on the stranger. "You- you know what that thing is?"
"I'm not a 'thing!'" The blob indignantly bellowed, "I'm a digimon!"
"Gesundheit," Leith quipped with lightning speed.
"I didn't sneeze!"
"I know. That's... that's the whole- nevermind." Well, the little guy didn't look like a killing machine, but what did Leith really know about it? For all I know, the thing's toxic - and I touched it! "Just- what just happened? Who are you?" Leith then asked Media, "What do you know? What is that?" That was when Medea's word choice struck him: 'we,' not 'it' or 'they' or even 'he' or 'she.'
"'He!'" the blob corrected Leith just before Medea had a chance to answer him, "And my name is Chibomon. Nice to meet you, Leith! Please stop shouting, though." Apparently 'Chibomon' had recovered from Leith's insults mid-introduction, probably not taking them too personally judging by the wide grin he displayed by the end of it. "I'm your friend! It's a good thing."
By this point Leith had just about had enough. Almost at a complete lost for words, he didn't even notice that the creature knew his name without being told. Flustered looked to the girl in the yellow dress and gestured at the digimon while trying to find the right words. The only ones he could come up with in the end were, "Explain? Please?"

So the Chibomon could speak English... She supposed that was somewhat good, but at the same time it also meant she was even more alienated here, literally only Tawna and Medea probably able to communicate back. "Okay, so... I'm relying on you completely to get info across Medea... Please tell him that we need to get somewhere more private to talk. Are you sure you have this?" Haru quietly spoke to Medea, trying to at least make it clear that this was important to get things across properly. "Calm your panties bawss, I got dis! Its on you to find a spot though!" Medea snidely spoke back to the girl, huffing slightly as she turned to face Leith and the newly-hatched Fresh level... admittingly a slightly smug look on their face. "Dime a dozen quesshuns, eh pretty boy? Well, da bawss here is wantin' us tuh go somewhere mawh privately. Keep de down low about dis though! We doan need weirdoes seein' your new buddy!" she pluckily spoke as they placed their hands by their hips, sassily shaking them (much to Haru's own exasperation). Fortunately, Haru did know a spot... Miyashita Park had a small section closed for renovations, but it was in a sort of state of limbo that meant it was probably not gonna see progress anytime soon. Perfect place to get some privacy, and it wasn't the first time either she's used it in this manner. "This way." she spoke, motioning everyone to come as they took off, Medea shortly following. It was only a few minutes away to get to where she had hoped to be at least a safe spot to converse, even if she had to somewhat be on the sidelines. The only thing keeping people from outright walking into the somewhat shadier area of the park was just some signs politely telling people that it was a restricted zone... though not that would stop them if they tried. It seemed that the coast was clear enough that they could at least begin to chat. Taking a moment to catch her breath in the shade, Haru turned to face Leith as she gestured at herself. "My name is Haru Toriya, and I'm a Digimon Tamer like you." they spoke, their name and the term Digimon Tamer being among the couple things that were romanized enough for her to be able to speak (though hopefully Chibomon understood, at least if they too could understand Japanese). Not taking a moment to dawdle, she clipped off her D-Arc and showed it Leith... the device somewhat similar in shape to the D-3 they held, though it was clear that it seemed to a bit more advanced. If Leith was keen enough, he'd also spot a sprite of a small cat-like creature seemingly idle on the device's screen. "Alright, so since de bawss can't speak English, I'll translate! Okay? Yuh probs got dat huh name is Haru, and dey are a Digimon Tamer! That's what dat lil' doohickey you holdin' is fawh or somethin', least as far as I know. Yuh with me?" Medea immediately began to speak, pointing at the devices in both humans' hands. "Now... Digimon unlike yuh humans are made of data radder than flesh and red stuff! Us Digimon are from anudder wawhld, way bigguh and cooluh than yawhs! Doan know why, but we just kinda occasionally partnuh up wit' eachudder! We scratch your backs, yuh scratch ours!"

Leith didn't even get a chance to talk before the blob in his arms, apparently named Chibomon, happily began to hop up and down, which was apparently necessary in order to emphasize as he proclaimed, "I'm Leith's partner! I can translate for him just fine!"
"Yeah? Can you translate that girl's Jersey Shore-ese into plain English?" Even though Leith was wisecracking, his delivery was deadpan, expressing his annoyance both with the creature and the girl.
Chibomon, however, went on as if he hadn't even noticed. He hopped and spun in the air to face his human before explaining, more simply, "It's a digivice! The thing that bonds a Digimon and a Tamer! We're partners who help each other! We're made of data, but-"
"Yeah, no, that's gonna be where I stop you." After passing the digivice from the right hand to the left, Leith put the right hand on top of Chibomon to keep him from constantly bouncing up and down, but he was at least kind enough to make the other arm stretch across his body to keep the thing from falling to the ground. "I mean, like, I understand what you two are saying. I recognize every word, I know their definitions, and I know how they fit together to form a basic idea. My hangup is the basic idea is batshit crazy."
Leith recognized his own anxiety symptoms, at least: tightening throat, slightly heavier breathing, hunger, and the need to burp due to gas. In fact, he actually did, but he was polite enough to turn away in lieu of covering his mouth and tried to keep it quiet. Then he addressed the breath and throat, taking one deep breath to try and both regulate his breathing and relax his muscles. As for the hunger, well... nothing he could do about that at the moment. "But, yeah, I know... I just saw a slime blob hatch from an egg that came from this thing," Leith admitted with slightly more expression than his quip, waving the D-3 as much as his wrist alone would let him.
He noticed the other one was different as it was held close to him, but rather than asking he just assumed they came in different shapes and sizes naturally. Yes, he noticed the sprite, but the young man didn't really know what to think of it. "So, I'm Leith, he's Chibomon, you're Haru-" Chibomon began talking over Leith, but stopped when Leith stopped. By hearing his own name and that hint, he realized Chibomon was relaying his speech in perfect Japanese (or so he hoped, anyway). "-uh, you're Haru, and you're..." Leith paused. He didn't know that name. So instead he decided on, "...you're weird." Leith defended that assertion by pointing out, "You keep saying 'we' when you talk about Digimons - digimons? Digimon? Digimen?"
"Digimon!" Chibomon helpfully educated him.
"You make it sound like you're one." Leith furrowed his eyes then and scrutinized Medea. "And, frankly, as I'm saying it... I'm getting the feeling that's exactly what's going on." Just then, though, Chibomon flashed the same light that the digivice had before - and so did the device itself. "Oh, shit!" Leith cried just before dropping the baby digimon. Luckily, though, by the time the digimon hit the ground, it had legs and feet to land on. Of course Leith wouldn't have known the words to describe it, but he'd just witnessed Chibimon digivolve to Demiveemon. "Jesus!"

Despite being just recently hatched, Chibomon actually was fairly well-versed as to what was going and more or less repeated what Medea just said, though perhaps in an easier to understand manner. Frankly, handy at least as it would make explaining all this just a tad easier.
"Thats nawhmal. Digimon pop out of eggs, all cute and weak. Not as cute as me though..." Medea added on to the young man's absolute confusion to the situation at hand, finding it amusing. Still, she WAS genuinely trying to relay as much info between both parties to Leith... Primarily because Haru told her to, as otherwise she'd have probably just let them flounder and watch the sparks fly for fun.
"Your not saying anything weird, are you Medea?" Haru ended up asking, trying to at least keep up with the conversation... though fortunately least was able to finally hear what Leith was talking about thanks to Chibomon translating for them. At least it made her able to understand things better.
"What? Lil' ole me? Nawww..." the holosuit-wearing Digimon snarkily responded back to Haru in Japanese... though it was pretty clear outright that they weren't being too serious. The conversation was proving to be very fun to them, especially as Leith finally seemed to plug the numbers in and identified that perhaps she wasn't as human as she looked. "Hahaha! Sassy, aren't ya? Sharp too! Well, I guess yuh could say that..."
Sudden Digivolution? Well, not terribly surprising to either Haru or Medea. Fresh levels did after all mature quickly. "Aww doan mind de lil' guy. Baby Digimon Digivolve very quickly, though I reckon once he Digivolves one mawh time ting will slow down." they briefly explained, though soon enough backed off slightly from the pair of tamers. They briefly let out an impish giggle as their body suddenly seemed to glitch... their form peeling off into a light stream of data as their actual shape was revealed, a small black-furred rabbit-like Digimon with four ears and wearing a medallion with a moon on it. Despite being shorter than their disguise, their sassy body language was not lost as they held a paw to their face mischievously. "Ain't I just de sexiest lil' ting around, or what? Name's Medea, though yuh can also call me BlackLunamon if you prefer! I'm just a friend of gogglehead here, huh ackshul partner's in huh lil' Digivice." they snarkily spoke, more than likely grinning at perhaps the reaction they'd get.
An audible (albeit somewhat digitized) feminine voice seemed to come out of Haru's D-Arc, their tone sounding rather annoyed and fed up with the BlackLunamon's trollish personality. "Don't go bringing me up when I don't want to... I'm trying to sleep." a voice came out of Haru's Digivice, repeating once in both languages for both parties.
Haru herself just kind of awkwardly laughed as she placed a hand behind her head, scratching it. "Uhh... Heh. This was not how I was intending for this to happen... but guess it kinda worked out?" they spoke, though did seem to pause as they heard Tawna from within the Digivice seem to repeat their sentence back in English to Leith.
Well... On the plus side, the language barrier was taken down slightly...?

After Chibomon - or, now, Demiveemon - translated Haru's first question, the boy sighed in relief. At least one of 'em's got her head screwed on right - maybe. At this point, Leith was just too mentally exhausted to be startled when Medea showed her true form, nor did he even bother asking how she hid as human in the first place. He wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer to that or the next questions, So, are digimon just body snatchers or fake humans? followed by, How many people are actually just digimon in disguise? which he thought but didn't say. "I just..." For a few moments Leith tried multiple times to start sentences only for them to crash and burn before even getting off the ground. "Alright. I don't even know where the hell to start here. Every time you answer a question, ten more pop up." Leith crouched down, then, getting closer to Demiveemon's level. "But you... I can't believe I'm saying this, but you don't seem so bad."
At that, Demiveemon took a second to stop translating to blush and respond modestly, "Aww... shucks!"
The young man eyes the digivce again. The shade of blue seemed to match the shade of Demiveemon nearly perfectly, and the black of it matched - well, him, his outfit, his style, his attitude. He didn't quite smile at it, but he did give a satisfied little, "Hmm," to it. "My neighborhood doesn't allow big dogs or outdoor cats, but it doesn't say anything about aliens, I guess. Hey, Haru, which button-" Before Leith could even ask, though, he saw a series of five options on his screen: V-Pet, Digi-FM, and Human-Digimon Comm. He was at least intuitive enough to figure out how to scroll through them with the arrow buttons and see short descriptions of each. "Oh, hey! So, if I press-" Leith pointed the digimon at his new partner then, pushed the big round button to select V-Pet, and learned how to store his digimon inside the divice. "OK, cool... maybe that'll give me a little time to figure this whole thing out."
"Take your time, Leith! I'll be here!" Demiveemon called from inside. This surprised Leith only until he remembered hearing the same thing happen from Haru's machine.
"Not now... please," the young man begged. "Well... this is the weirdest moment of my whole damn life," the young man effectively summarized as he pocketed the digivice. "Hey, Haru?" he then spoke directly "These things apparently have a radio function? I gotta sit down or something, but do you think I could get you if I, like, I dunno... I'm gonna have some questions, I'm sure, and you were... you know. Here. You, too, BlackLo-Bl, no OK, Medea, I give up." Leith rapidly shook his head, jostling his long hair. "Or... right. I guess we could just trade phone numbers, too, if that's OK."

Haru could tell even just from Leith's tone that he was getting frustrated... Honestly, she couldn't blame him... Nothing about Digimon was easy to digest normally. "No, No! It's okay... I'm sorry we can't talk directly really, but I know what you must be feeling right now. Its all incredibly confusing, I was just like you too... but it'll get easier, I promise!" she quickly spoke, Tawna continuing to translate for her. She was actually somewhat surprised that Leith's Digivice already had a V-Pet function, for she had to have one installed on her's directly... Still, very convenient as it meant they could hide their partner just as easily as she could with Tawna.
Still, it did seem that this little conversation was ending as quick as it started... Not a bad thing though, Leith seemed to catch on to most of this stuff quick enough, so no need to continue the conversation too much longer. "Oy! Just text me if you got questions... It'll be easier for us to talk through writing than it would by speaking..." she ended up speaking, pulling out a small notepad and pen she had tucked away in her bag, writing down her phone number for Leith as she passed a slip.
With that done, all there really was left to do here was get going... This was a bit of detour from what Haru wanted to do, but it was still worth getting this done... She'd have felt awful just leaving Leigh uninformed, so it did make her feel better that she had helped when she did. Glancing over to the BlackLunamon by her side, Haru sighed as she briefly scratched the back of her head. "Medea, put your holosuit and lets get going... Ayumi is still expecting me to chip in a lil'."
The rabbit let out a small "nyeh" as their form flickered back in to the human-shape as they clicked their virtual shoes slightly. "Awww, just when was havin' fun..." the disguised Digimon squeaked, turning towards Leith, they waving at the brown-haired young man. "Don't be a stranger cutie ~!" they teasingly spoke, even winking at the human much to Haru's exasperation.
"Okay, we're done here." the girl somewhat irritably grumbled, going as far to grab hold of Medea's arm and yanking them away, much to the disguised Digimon's annoyance.
"Hey, hey! Give me a break woman!" Medea panicked as they were pulled away from Leith, the two girls heading back towards the main area of the park...
