Adrian woke up from a sleepless night from the night before. He just kept thinking about an incident that occured the night before. It started out as a normal night, with Shoutmon acting as wreckless as ever.
"SHOUTMON," Adrian scolded the red dragon, "you can't keep making a ruckus like this! Mom and Dad are gonna suspect that something's up!"
"Well, SORRY that I get bored up here! Why can't you let me out to walk around, huh?"
"I do!"
"In the HUMAN world!"
Adrian groaned and rubbed his temples. "Shoutmon, you know why we can't do that, unless you put on a holosuit like Wormmon."
"I'm sick of you fragile humans being scared of our kind. You walk around our world like it's no big deal, why can't we do the same here?!"
"The amount of power between us is too great, Shoutmon. Humans aren't like Digimon. We fear what we don't understand, and as a species, Digimon are incomprehendable."
Shoutmon's eye twitched slightly. He growled and slammed his foot on the ground. "That is a pathetic excuse! You don't know what it's like to be me; cooped up in that Digivice all day, wanting to talk and greet others, but not being able to!"
"Oh, and you think MY life is easy?! I constantly LIE to my parents about you, I risk my LIFE out there trying to protect both humans AND Digimon, all while trying to balance work and school! You couldn't survive a day in my shoes!"
"Well, you wouldn't last two minutes with my life, either!"
Then, the both of them said at the same time: "YOU WOULDN'T LAST ONE DAY IN MY SHOES!"
That last line was all Adrian remembered of that night, before he felt like he was being... electrocuted and collapsed. He slowly got up, and realized he was on the floor. Since when do I sleep on the floor...? He rubbed his head - and realized he couldn't feel any hair. Whuh?
Confused, he turned to his bed, only to realize he no longer was tall enough to see the top of the bed. "Oh, no..." Adrian then took one look at his right arm, raising it up to his face slowly... it wasn't his hand.
It was a white paw with three black fingers. He gasped and looked down at the rest of him. White belly... red legs... black clawed toes! And a TAIL!
He was in Shoutmon's body!
"SHOUTMON," Adrian called worriedly. After a bit of looking he eventually found... his own body?! "Hey, wake up!"
The blonde haired human groaned as he picked himself up from the floor, clearly annoyed by being woken up so abruptly. "What is it, Adria-?" He started to ask before looking at 'Adrian'. Slowly, his face morphed into an expression of fear. "Y-You're me!"
"And you're me!" Before long, both of them began to scream bloody murder, and they ran around in a panic. Shoutmon kept looking at himself in the mirror, trying to snap out of whatever hallucination he was experiencing. Adrian kept slapping himself, trying to convince himself it was all a dream. After what seemed like hours of doing it, both of them concluded that this wasn't a dream...
This was real!
"Why TODAY of all days for this to happen?!" Adrian asked, pacing back and forth. "I have a huge test in Algebra today, and I'm scheduled to work at four o'clock!"
"This is what you get for not letting me wander around Shibuya," Shoutmon teased in Adrian's body.
"You realize that YOU'RE gonna have to be the one to do these things, right?"
"WHAT?! I don't even know what Algebra is! I don't even know what you even do at your job!"
"Okay... okay, we need to call someone... Cross! Doctor Cross! Grab my phone, it's in-"
"Adrian, hurry up," The two heard Adrian's mother calling upstairs, and both of them just froze in fear. "It's almost time to head out the door!"
"Shitshitshit, what are we going to do?!"
"Just suck me into the V-Pet, Shoutmon. Hurry! She can't see me in this form, and ACT NATURAL!"
Shoutmon nodded and grabbed his partner's Digivice, pressing the button on the right. Suddenly, Adrian was turned into a beam of light, and was sucked up into the Digivice. "Okay, this thing isn't that spacious..."
Suddenly, Adrian's mother opened the door, a big smile on her face. "Hey, honey-bunny! You better get dressed!"
"Er... right, I will do that. Thanks... Mom."
Adrian's mom smiled at Shoutmon as she closed the door behind her. Shoutmon took a look around the room. "So, uh... where are your clothes? And what do you usually wear to school?"
The rest of that day was not the best. First, there was the incident that happened at the very beginning of the day where Shoutmon was hopelessly lost, despite Adrian giving clear directions.
"No, I said to go LEFT, not right!"
"I get the two mixed up..."
"UNGH! Shoutmon, you are HOPELESS!"
And when Shoutmon DID get to the right class, he was then faced with an Algebra test that, to him, just looked like a bunch of jumbled numbers and letters. "They make you do this...?" He asked, mainly to himself.
That test somehow got a passing grade, which later stumped both Adrian and Shoutmon, as Shoutmon literally just guessed on every single thing.
Later during lunch, Shoutmon was eating his school pizza (which he absolutely devoured,) when he noticed another kid being picked on by someone REALLY big and tall. Seeing that didn't approve with him at all... luckily, as they passed by Shoutmon, he stuck his foot out which caused the big kid to trip. Of course, Shoutmon acted like nothing happened, causing a bunch of laughs from the kids surrounding him.
Meanwhile, Adrian began to get what Shoutmon was talking about. The V-Pet wasn't that fun to hang around in. It was nothing but white, and it was barely big enough to support him. Not much room to move around. He started to feel bad about what he had said to Shoutmon last night...
Then four o'clock rolled around. From four to eight, Adrian's shift at the local Pizza Hut... it was an absolute disaster. Shoutmon had no idea how to do ANYTHING, from getting drinks, to working the computer system, to remembering which table had what, to SIMPLY WRITING DOWN ORDERS ON A PIECE OF PAPER!
"I'm sorry, really I am, I... yes, I'll get your drink in a second... I'm sorry that you waited that long, I'm busy- oh, damn it, I dropped the food again!"
Just hearing all the commotion from outside made Adrian's stomach turn. Shoutmon was doing an absolutely dreadful job, and he couldn't do anything about it. He was gonna get fired for sure now...
After work, Shoutmon let Adrian out in an alley, so they wouldn't be spotted. When he was released, Adrian let out a sigh of relief. "Finally, I'm out of there!"
"So now you know what it feels like to be in that thing all day..." Shoutmon scoffed, looking away from the now red dragon. Adrian looked at Shoutmon with sad eyes.
"Shoutmon... I'm sorry for how I acted last night. I didn't know how uncomfortable the V-Pet makes you feel."
"I'm sorry too. You were right; you do have it harder than me. I'm surprised you could do something like... Algebra, or do your job like that."
"The way you handled that bully was pretty awesome, too... I never could have done something like that."
"Heh, yeah, that was pretty sweet... doesn't change the fact that today's been absolutely horrible."
"I swear, we'll find a way to go back to our real bodies... I swear it." He then extended a paw out to the human. "Partners again?"
Shoutmon looked at his partner and smiled. He grabbed his own arm with Adrian's. "Partners again."
As soon as the two shook hands, a wall of electricity surrounded them. Both of them felt like they were being horrifically electrocuted, and in no time at all it was over, and the two collapsed on the ground before regaining consciousness.
"Unh... Shoutmon..?" Adrian asked, looking at the red dragon. Wait, red dragon?! Could it be?! He suddenly looked down at himself: we was a human again! "Shoutmon, we did it... we're back to normal!"
"We... we are?" Shoutmon asked, his vision still a bit blurry. When it cleared up, he saw the human Adrian standing in front of him. Quickly, he looked down at his own arm, which was back to being a white paw with three black fingers. "Oh, thank Yggdrasil! I'm me again!"
The tamer and Digimon then immediately hugged each other in happiness. After a while, the hug was broken. "How about we head back home and forget this day existed?"
"Even better... let's get some grub on the way! I'm so hungry!"
Adrian chuckled. "You're definitely back to your old self, Shoutmon..."
