Shibuya 104 was one of very few places Leith learned how to get to when he googled music shops and found the nearest one was in it. Even better, just a couple shops down, there was a clothing shop just for rock and metal merchandise! Leith knew as soon as he read band logos he recognized that he had to pick up a few new shirts - after confirming they came in black, anyway. Too bad he couldn't read the sizes, but he was able to just hold the shirts to himself and eyeball it.
As Leith came to one circle of shirts, though, the first one he touched made him pull his hand back in a hurry. The shirt had built up so much static electricity somehow that when he touched it, it shocked him. This was no ordinary carpet shock, either; it caused the young man real, physical pain. "Ah! Geez!" he cried as he shook his wrist. "That actually hurt!"
Leith hadn't been talking to the digivice prominently worn on his left wrist or the little creature inside it, but that digimon regardless asked concernedly, "Leith! Are you alright?" Luckily the young man was quick enough to cover the device with one hand before the invisible voice could alert the whole store.
"I'm fine, Demiveemon," Leith hissed, holding the device close to his mouth so he didn't have to speak out loud, "Shit, though. How does that even happen?"
Just then, every light in the store went out, making everyone else in the store startle and scream. Geez. Why do people in public always react to power outages like it's a gunshot? the young man cynically asked himself after he'd processed the event. Of course, it wasn't too dark to see thanks to light from outside, but Leith was looking up at the people around him, not down at his feet. That was why when something brushed past his leg, Leith reflexively lifted the leg but looked down too late to see what that was. He looked around a bit, searching for it, but he gave up just as the lights in the store all came back on. See? Shit happens, Leith pretended to scold those around him.
The young man didn't have much time to be smug, though. Demiveemon piped up again, "That's a digimon, Leith! I sensed it!"
"Hm?" Leith held up his wrist close to his mouth and whispered, "Power outages happen, Vee."
"I know it was a digimon! C'mon, let me out!"
"No!" the young man insisted, "Last thing I need is more funny looks than I'm already getting."

What Leith didn't know, however, was that DemiVeemon was actually RIGHT. Right after Leith had said he didn't want more funny looks, an eighteen-year-old high school student had walked into the shop.
"It has to be in here somewhere..." Adrian says, looking around the shop. "God damn, I can't see a thing!"
"Do you want me to come out? I could create a fireball and light up the place," a voice from Adrian's D-Arc wrist watch said, which was his partner Shoutmon.
"And burn down the whole store? No..." Adrian decided to pull out his phone and use the flashlight feature. Of course, the minute he did, his phone immediately died. In fact, EVERYONE'S phone died in that store. "Crap..."
"How can an Elecmon just VANISH like that?" Shoutmon asked, stunned that they lost it THAT easily.
"I don't know, but we NEED to find it. Otherwise the whole mall will be going through a blackout... and that's IF it doesn't Digivolve!"

It wasn't that Leith didn't believe DemiVeemon's claim, of course. He did. He just didn't want to be the one who had to deal with it. So he went right back to shopping but only for as long as it took him to hear someone else say the word 'Elecmon' from behind himself. He couldn't be sure, of course, that it was a digimon name, especially given the rapid Japanese by which the word was surrounded, but he was just curious enough to turn back around. The 19-year-old young man couldn't spots the fellow Tamer in the room immediately, but that garish digivice on his comrade's wrist gave him away eventually. Another one? Seriously? Shit, they're like flies, and apparently I'm the trash can!
Of course, Leith knew he couldn't justifiably be idle anymore when the issue was staring him in the face so blatantly. He wasn't thrilled about that fact, though, so he had to swallow the lump forming in his throat and take a deep breath to prepare for the approach. Only after his mental prep was when Leith stepped to stand right behind the stranger Tamer, tapped his shoulder to get his attention, and flash the D-3 as if it were a badge or secret signal. "Hey. At least it's easy when they're as obvious as both of us are about it." Leith crossed his arms, then. "You look stressed," he said simply, his rough way of asking just what was going on.

Adrian was a bit startled when he felt a tap on his shoulder while he was looking around. He turned to see what seemed to be an American, around his own age. Not only that...
He was holding up a D-3 Digivice.
"Wow, we really ARE everywhere, aren't we?" Adrian says, scratching the back of his head and chuckling. He then began to look more serious. "But yeah, I am stressed. Me and my partner are hunting a rogue Digimon, with the power of electricity, which explains the blackout quite nicely.
"If it absorbs enough electricity, it can Digivolve," Shoutmon's voice rings from Adrian's D-Arc. "And once it Digivolves, it can absorb even MORE electricity, which means no one will be able to catch their stories tonight at six. Also... cars might end up exploding or something."
"Have you seen it?" Adrian asked Leith. "It has red, white and purple fur."

The joke actually made Leith smirk and exhale out his nose audibly. He had to appreciate some good understatement humor. "Alright, yeah, I think I saw it. See that clothing rack? I touched it, and I got shocked worse than when Drew Lynch lost America's Got Talent. Then the lights went out, I felt something brush my leg as it ran past, and it was gone by the time I looked down." Fearing for the well-being of his own phone, then, Leith took it out of his pocket and tried to get the screen to light up. It didn't. "Well... that's problematic."
"See! I told you!" DemiVeemon bragged like he'd just picked the longshot winner in a horse race, "You gonna let me out now? It's about time I got in a good scrap!"
"DemiVeemon, please. We're in public." Leith's lips pursed again as he considered the true gravity of the situation truly sank in. He sighed. "I guess he's right, though. Can't let that thing run loose; I really need to catch my stories." So Leith acknowledged, "Alright, DemiVeemon. You win," before returning to addressing Adrian. "I'm Leith, and he's DemiVeemon. What ever help you need from us, you got it."

"...is that like Japan's Got Talent?" Adrian asked, taking his mind off of the Elecmon problem for a second. "And who's Drew Lynch?" Of course, being Japanese, Adrian wouldn't know much about what Leith said. He then shook his head and got back to the issue at hand.
"So this shirt right here shocked you?" He gently tapped on the shirt in question. "And that's when all the lights went out... He then noticed Leith trying to turn on his phone, with no prevail. "Yeah, my phone's dead, too... the damn Elecmon absorbed its energy."
Then he and Shoutmon both heard a voice come from Leith's own Digivice. It must've been his partner. That's when the kid introduced himself as Leith, and his partner as DemiVeemon. Adrian always wanted to meet one of them, after studying various kinds of Digimon.
"Hey, Leith. My name's Adrian... my mom's fascinated with Western names. And my partner is Shoutmon."
"Heya! I can't wait to get out of this thing and meet you properly!"

"Not now!" Leith cried out soon as Shoutmon spouted that. He then scolded, "Way too many people. That's a bad idea," only he realized how obvious and intuitive that already was as he said it, which showed in his tone of voice. Still, he supposed he should take initiative, so the young man waved Adrian along and tried to get the blonde kid to follow him out of the store. "Let's go for the bathroom." So Leith led the quartet there, remarking along the way, "Shit, I didn't even get to see if they had WarCry shirts yet."
Only after Leith meticulously scanned each stall for occupants - or Elecmon - and found them all empty did he then move a trash can in front of the door, the best barricade available to him. For good measure, he also leaned back against it. "Alright... let's hope no one is really determined to get in here. I'm not as big a guy as you, Adrian." He then pointed his digivice at enough empty space for DemiVeemon to appear and commanded, "Veemon, realize."
His screen flashed brightly for a few seconds before there, in the middle of the floor, stood DemiVeemon. "Hiya!" he greeted the pair of humans, jumping up and down excitedly. "We gonna do it then? I can't wait!"
"Well, I can," Leith perhaps a bit callously replied, "What are we supposed to do? Cover the whole mall, just the four of us?" It seemed Leith had momentarily forgotten Shoutmon a moment there. "We need some kind of approach to it, at least. Like, uh..." Leith covered his mouth with his hand, then, his habit for when he thinks hard.

"Oh shit..." Shoutmon mumbled, realizing his mistake. "Sorry!" Shoutmon was the type of 'mon to not really think before he says or does something. Adrian then followed Leith into a bathroom, hearing his remark about WarCry shirts... man, these two had WAY different interests.
After Leith released Veemon, it was now Adrian's turn. "Shoutmon, realize!" A bright light shot out of the Digivice onto the floor, where it formed into a red dragon with a big V on his forehead, and green headphones. "Nice to meetcha both!"
Now the conversation shifted to how they were going to get this Elecmon. "That is a good question... so far, it seems to be hitting the places with the most electricity. Maybe if we figure out which stores were hit, we can find some kind of connection between all the stores!"
"We might need some help on this," Shoutmon says. "That sneaky little rabbit is FAST."

After politely shaking hands with the new allies, Leith went right back to assuming that thinking pose of his. Eventually he came up with, "I think we can assume all the electronic store and similar places in this building were hit already. Why? Because if not, that digimon should be there, not stealing electricity from a clothing shop." Of course, while he thought things over, Leith had to take some moments to admire Veemon's new form. This was his first time seeing it, at least in true form rather than a sprite on his screen. "Alright, here's what I got. These things have radio comms, right?" Leith held up his digivice as he asked that. "I say we set ours to the same frequencies and split in two teams. Who's on which team should be obvious." The young man looked over to Shoutmon, then, addressing him this time. "As for help, though... well, I don't know anyone else who could be here right now. So unless you do, I think we're on our own here."
"Hey, forget help!" Veemon enthusiastically challenged, holding his newly developed fist in front of him proudly. "I can take on that digimon all by myself if he's dumb enough to get in my way!"
Leith had to smirk at his partner's contagious confidence. "Worst-case scenario, if we're really in a hurry, we could split in four with the digimon sticking to the shadows - if they can hide as well as the quarry can." Leith finally broke his pose then to ask Adrian, "What do you think?"

"I swear! I saw some red dog go down there, mom!"
"Don't be silly dear... Let's go home before the lights go off again."
"B-but I'm not!"
Leith and Adrian may catch a nearby conversation between a small boy and their mother passing by outside, the mother seemingly hastily tugging their child along despite the boy's wishes. The kid was frantically trying to point towards a door with a "Employees Only" off somewhat nearby, it seemingly cracked open.
Red dog... Surely they weren't meaning any regular canine, could they? Or it may not have even been a canine... The lights to the mall seemed to flicker slightly again, a worrisome sign that something very wrong was still going on.
Were you to open the door, it'd seemingly lead to a flight of stairs down into a large basement of some sort... though of course, pitch-black. This must have been where building maintenance for all of Shibuya 104 was situated at, though it did not seem like anyone has been down here in a while judging by the cobwebs and moldy air. It did seem there was some light fixtures on the walls that would have illuminated the way normally, but some of them were torn from the sockets (quite forcefully) and the others de-powered. Needless to say, it did make for a convenient trail to follow the electrical thief.

"Yeah, you're right," Adrian tells Leith. "The first place the Elecmon hit was the electronics store, followed by the GameStop, then just hit every place with either lights or a big flat screen TV display."
Right after Leith had finished discussing a plan, that's when Adrian overheard some kid talk about how he just saw a "red dog" go down into somewhere. "Did you guys hear that?"
"Yeah... an Elecmon is more like a rabbit than anything, you know?"
"THAT'S what you're concerned about?! Come on, let's follow it... Shoutmon, Veemon, stick to the shadows!"
Adrian and a hidden Shoutmon then ran into the room in question, what the sign said be damned. Eventually, they now seemed to be in a basement area... that was completely pitch black dark.
"Adrian, up there," Shoutmon says, pointing to the light fixtures. "That must be where the Elecmon went! It has to be!"

Veemon didn't obey Adrian's command immediately. Instead, he looked to Leith. Leith affirmed it with, "You heard him, Vee." Leith and Veemon waited until the way was clear before the young man ushered the little digimon across the way and into the apparent maintenance basment. "Hmm... well, I'd shine my flashlight up there, but my phone's as dead as yours." That made Leith look down at the screen of his digivice in case it may be bright enough to see up there, but it didn't have a chance from so low. "Hey, Veemon? Do you have some ability that can light the place?"
Veemon's eyes widened when he heard the question. Then he frowned and admitted, "No."
So that left Leith looking around, lost and back to square one. "So that means either Shoutmon has to somehow light the way the place, or-"
"We know he's down here, so let's just look around!" Veemon shouted before running off into the darkness and out of sight.
At first Leith wanted to call Veemon back, but then he considered it. "That... might actually be the better plan." Leith looked to Adrian and Shoutmon then. "Let's split and search the place. Elecmon might have fled down another path that leads here, but if this all the electricity comes through this place that probably isn't the smarter play." Leith frowned. "Problem is, it can probably hear us coming a mile away and hide or run... or attack. But what's our other option?" Leith almost walked away then, but first he added, "Probably should be fast, too. Someone's coming eventually if lights all over the building are going out."

Despite the maintenance basement's pitch-blackness, there were enough signs pointing to the missing Rookie level's presence down here that a trail was evident enough to track them down. Good thing too, as otherwise it'd have been probably a nightmare to find them down here. Sure enough, eventually you'd be able to find sections of the basement that are still lit up (generally forking from the darker, broken light sections). As comforting as it is to see bright light again, the only option was to follow the darker pathways. Eventually however, a dead-end would be stumbled upon... leading to a chain-link gate with several warning signs, all warning of active electrical devices... but more importantly, the gate was torn right off the hinges. A few still active lights ahead were still in-place, but more importantly the form of a small red-furred Digimon could be seen huddled up by a large generator. The Elecmon was currently idly by the generator's side, their tail sprung up as they passively appeared to be drawing energy from the power generator... the lights illuminating the area flickering dangerously. Clearly sucking the electricity from the generator, fortunately the Rookie level did not seem aware of either tamer or Digimon's presence.

"Thankfully it's not completely pitch black down here," Adrian says, pointing out to the obvious signs of where the Elecmon must have went. The group went down that path for a little while before winding up at a gate with the usual "electrical warning" signs. The gate was torn off the hinges, too!
"The culprit is definitely here," Adrian confirms, taking a step to enter the closed-off area.
"We'll have to be super careful in here," Shoutmon says, "if those signs are any indication."
"Since when do you care about what the signs say?"
"Heh, good point."
Sure enough, as they went along, they found the culprit: a red rabbit-like Digimon clearly draining the electricity away from the generator. "There it is! Let's-"
"Wait, Shoutmon.... I don't think it knows we're here yet... Leith, Veemon, you go that way; we're going to try to flank this Elecmon so it has nowhere else to go!"

Leith had to smile at Adrian for actually stopping and coming up with a decent plan; the last thing the young man had wanted to deal with right about then was a hot heat. That guy's definitely done this before, Leith concluded from that all. As the other pair left, he called, "Adrian, we gotta hang out some time when there isn't a crazy Pikachu digimon stealing the mall's power." Leith then had to stop and contemplate the absurdity of a situation that could make a sentence like that appropriate, but there was no time to lose. So, then, it was just Veemon and his Tamer alone.
Well... I've got a real bad feeling about this. Leith's smile faded soon as it appeared. I haven't even seen everything digimon are capable of, but I have seen they're capable of putting holes through walls with no effort and appearing out of thin air... and that's just the small ones. Leith addressed Veemon. "Veemon, I know you're way more thrilled about this than I am, but there're more important things at stake here than the thrill of the fight." As the boy looked down at his digimon, though, he was surprised to find Veemon quite composed. Maybe the prospect of a fight seemed less exciting when it was staring Veemon in the face, Leith, though. Oh, man. Now would not be the right time for him to finally lose his nerve.
But Veemon just nodded with an acknowledging grunt, eyes on the quarry.
"Good answer." The pair waited then as long as Leith thought was necessary for Adrian to get into position, then started a quiet countdown. "Right... Veemon? On my mark."
"Gotcha!" Veemon bent his knees and prepared to spring.
That was when Leith raised a hand holding up three fingers. I guess this is when I really become a Tamer! was how Leith pumped himself up before subtracting one finger, then another as his countdown. His order to execute was nonverbally conveyed by closing his fist entirely.
Veemon charged. Leith thought Veemon might have been trying to lighten his own steps because he could barely hear them on the floor. Then again, with ears like those, is there hiding any sound? he prudently asked himself from behind the cover he was peeking out from.
"Vee Headbutt!" The young man then heard Veemon yell just before jumping forward and leading with his head at the Elecmon.
