"A Digimon that doesn't want to eat all the time?" Johan asked, raising an eyebrow. "I just can't buy that at all. Aren't you starving or anything? Even Dokamon here gets a case of the munchies here and there."
"They don't need to know that," Dokamon angrily exclaimed. Kotemon tried offering the smoothie to Dokamon, who just shrugged and took it, immediately throwing it away.
"I have to say, you have a really cool design," Johan says, actually picking up Kotemon and moving him around as if he was a doll. "You're like a mix of a dragon and a kendo fighter. I can't imagine anyone dreaming of putting those two things together. I wonder what you look like with this thing off?"
If either of them were wondering if Dokamon was at all okay with this, the look on his face clearly showed that he was not. "Johan, I do not think picking up another Digimon like that is a good thing to do!"
"Oh, right..." Johan says bashfully as he puts down Kotemon. "I prefer to do hands-on learning, or at least observational learning. It's how I learned how to do everything, really."
Next, Kotemon asked Johan how he encountered Digimon. "Well, I was packing up my things for my plane ride to Japan, when I notice that there's a strange message on my computer. I remember what it said, too. 'Do you want to be useful?' with a Yes and No choice as well. I chose yes, and suddenly a tiny Kapurimon came out of my computer, who just so happened to be Dokamon."

Kotemon glared at the boy who picked her up, squirming and immediately trying to reach for its kendo stick to beat the boy senseless. Thankfully for him the digimon was set down before it came to that.
"I never said I wasn't hungry, just that I refuse to let it be my defining trait like so many others. A digimon who can be lured into a trap with something as simple as a sandwich is soon a dead digimon." Kotemon explained, "and if you try to take off my helmet I will hurt you. It makes me look mysterious and learned." "It makes you look like a toddler in an umpire uniform. In fact, that's literally the only reason we haven't purchased a holosuit yet." Duffer interjected, snickering. Kotemon smacked him in the stomach, Duffer banged his helmet in response, causing it to bang like a gong, both of them moaning and reacting accordingly.
"Duffer just tried to figure out if they had a copy of something called "Vice City" on his foreign exchange family's computers." Kotemon explained, trying to stop the helmet's ringing. "Then he locked himself in the bathroom with a bat." "Oh I'm sorry that the only experience with a weird, giant egg ended with a woman alone on a space ship being hunted by pumpkinhead." "It doesn't even look like pumpkinhead! You made me watch both of those movies, they're nothing alike!" "We're also leaving out how Kotemon made me skip classes, destroyed my personal property, pushed me into dangerous situations..." "And how I kept you alive for 2 years by sacrificing my personal life and money." Kotemon said, glaring at him. The two began glaring at one-another, completely forgetting about the others present.

"I'm not saying you should let it be your defining trait," Johan defended himself, "I'm just saying you don't have to limit yourself like that. If you're hungry, you should eat, simple as that. Come on, let's go try some seafood here in Whitewater. I believe I have enough bits to pay for it!"
Kotemon warned Johan to not take off his helmet, as they believed it to make them look all mysterious. Johan couldn't help but laugh at that. "I'm sorry, but claiming that it makes you look mysterious means you're not mysterious at all. I honestly agree with Duffer on how it makes you look." Just then, Duffer and Kotemon both struck each other just like that, leaving the other Tamer and Digimon shocked.
"I do not think it is a good idea to strike another human like that," Dokamon scolded Kotemon. Duffer and Kotemon then explained how the two met each other, which then evolved into a blaming match and a glaring match, making Johan and Dokamon feel VERY uncomfortable.
"Yeah... Dokamon and I are having problems as well..."

"Well how should I hit him?" Kotemon asked, rolling its eyes. "I can't strike his head, he's sensitive there ever since the concrete..." "They probably should've put a metal plate or something in..." Duffer mumbled to himself. "But I'd love to join you two for lunch. I suppose you got yourself out of swimming for now, Duffer."
"Given your shocked responses your problems probably aren't as bad as ours. Wanna elaborate on the way?" Duffer asked as he began to walk up to the register and try to pay for the drinks and snacks. He dug into his pocket and frowned, then took off his backpack and began digging. "The hell? I had a fifty in here a few hours ago..." "And I took it so you wouldn't waste it on your comic books." Kotemon shook its head. "I used it to pay for the ride here, in case you'd chicken out of your daily exercise." The mon smirked at its own cleverness. "Cash is tight, we have to use what we can where we need too." "Then how exactly did you expect us to get back to the apartment before rent's due?" "We'd walk and work our way through, like back when your human world didn't have cars."
"We had horses and stagecoaches." "Well before that." "We had carriages pulled by other people." "Before that." "We had a series of rounded logs that allowed us to move heavy objects long distances with ropes." "When did you suddenly get so smart about this?" "I learned it at the human school you made me stop going too! ...And those mummy movies made mention of them."

"I think he was trying to say that you shouldn't hit Duffer at all," Johan told Kotemon. "And what do you mean by 'ever since the concrete'?"
After that and Duffer and Kotemon argued about what travel methods were around before the other, the two of them agreed to join Johan and Dokamon for lunch. Satisfied, Johan reached into his back pocket to get out his wallet... and he froze.
"Johan? What's the matter?" Dokamon asked.
"M...My wallet's g-gone... it had all my money in it... did you take it too, Kotemon?"
"Johan, don't be ridiculous! Of course he didn't take it... there must be some kind of thief around this area... Johan?"
Johan did not respond. He was mentally breaking down from the fact that his wallet was now gone. Dokamon poked the human a bit, but Johan did not react much, as he just kept staring forward. "This is not good..."

"Well..." Kotemon looked away as Duffer explained. "A few years ago there was an accident in the Shibuya Mall. Digimon attacked. Everything was covered up but during the attack me and Kotemon went in to help people to safety. I was hit by falling debris right on the head. I uh... I was concussed and put into a coma." Duffer looks down. "I lost 2 years. My family don't know where I am and... yeah."
Kotemon shook its head. "I assure you that thieving from Duffer is poor, poor training for the real thing." "Hey!" "Regardless, if we are without money we're in a difficult spot." "I'm sure the guy running the shop is fine. I mean, it's not like we already ate anything, right? Oh wait... we threw out that slushie. But how much could one slushie cost?" "Something tells me he won't see it like that." Kotemon mumbled. "Tell you what, Duffer will stay here with Dokamon, while you and I go find your wallet." The digimon offered. Duffer suddenly looked kind of upset at the idea of having his partner leave.
"Jo? Johann? Wake up. We have things to do, places to see. The sooner we set out the sooner we can get whatever's freaking you out back."
Duffer turned to look at Dokamon. "So uh... you like comic books? I got a few we can read to pass the time." The boy dug out his backpack and showed the blue digimon a few odd books about zombies and vampires and such.

"A Digimon attack...?" Johan gasped. Digimon attacking Shibuya...? He could even imagine such a thing. Besides, wouldn't something like that make the International News? He guessed that the government had something to do with covering it up. And being in a coma for two years... "...I'm sorry, man. I know what it's like to lose family. I lost my youngest sister in a roller coaster accident about three years ago. I... I haven't been able to look at my parents or my other sister in the eyes ever since."
Now that the sad stories were over with, now was a time to deal with another matter: Johan's missing wallet. Dokamon couldn't help but snicker at Kotemon's jab at Duffer as he grabbed Johan's arm and pulled the unresponsive Tamer away.
The thief couldn't have been far. If Kotemon was looking around, he could see a little bit of hurried movement before disappearing into the crowd. Inside this crowd there seemed to be a Dracomon who could have possibly seen whoever took it. Kotemon could try to ask it questions... however, he'd get a nasty Betsumon surprise if he tried.
While they waited, Duffer tried to show Dokamon some comic books, as if he somehow thought Dokamon liked that kind of thing. "Not interested."

Duffer shook his head. He missed his family too, his parents are probably waiting on a call from him, hoping desperately for confirmation that he was just missing, that he'd come back to minnesotta and life would be back to normal. How ould he explain kotemon and his absence? He supposed that would come later...
Kotemon frowned, looking at the unusual crowds gathering around the store as they left. "I hate this city, crowds only show up when it's inconvenient for you. This place was practically dead a few seconds ago!" The digimon mumbled as he approached who they thought was the crook. He grabbed him and turned him around, ready to strike, only to see "A Betsumon? Why're you dressed as a Dracomon?" The digimon asked, confused before turning to make sure Johan was still following. "Well, whatever, have you seen a dracomon? A real dracomon? I believe he has something of my apprentice's new friend's and I'd rather give him back."
Duffer sighed, annoyed. "Listen man, comic books are, like, my one shtick. They don't have baseball in the digital world, so I can't talk about that to pretty much anyone." He admitted somberly. "How about you talk about you then, huh? I tried being friendly but I guess we're just stuck here and... sorry, I just get a bit cranky when I'm away from Kotemon for a long time. I've read these comics fifteen times, the freaking head injury gives me headaches at hard times..." Duffer took a deep breath.

Of course, Johan was still in his zombie-like state, completely miffed by the fact that someone had stolen his wallet. So of course, he didn't really do much to help Kotemon other than just stand there, much to Kotemon's dismay. But indeed, he was following Kotemon as much as he could. And didn't really react when the Dracomon turned out to be a Betsumon.
Said Betsumon turned towards the Kotemon in question. "A Dracomon you say? No, I didn't see any other Dracomons around, but there was a Gatomon I saw that looked suspicious... hey! It's over there!" The Betsumon pointed at a Betsumon that seemed to be holding something, and was trying to get away. Naturally, the thing to do would be to run after them.
Too bad that if Kotemon were to catch after them, it'd just be another Betsumon, who was holding a whole melon. "Hey, what's the big idea?!"
Dokamon sighed when Duffer became a whining baby complaining about Dokamon's lack of enthusiasm about comic books, blaming it all on missing Kotemon. "In the short time I've known you, I already find you a pathetic human being simply because you can't seem to function without your Digimon partner. Frankly, I think you need to spend some time away from him, if you know what's good for you. He isn't going to be there to protect you forever."

"Maybe you're right... You said you and your partner were having troubles too. What's that about?" Duffer asked, sitting silently. He was definitely leaning on Kotemon, whether either of them admit it or not. He dug into his bag, looking for something else to talk about or use. He took out a handful of dirty, American change. "You think he'll take this?" He asked the mon before standing up and trying anyways. The large digimon at the counter, a Gaurdromon awkwardly squeezed into a worker's uniform far too small for him looked at the boy as he approached. Duffer just dumps the change onto the counter. The mon looks at the change then at the boy, then Dokamon.
"Why's your boy giving me piles of copper?" He asked before picking it up and examining it. "It's not even pure, some of these are mostly zinc." "Oh no, he's a friends'. I just wanted to pay for the food we wasted." Duffer said, trying to seem polite. The digimon looked at him up and down. "We take bits, kid. Just because I'm a literal machine doesn't mean I don't have better things to do than figure out the retail value of a bunch of metal." "Like what?" There's a long pause as the Gaurdromon stares him down.
Meanwhile, Kotemon found the gatomon and turned HER around. "Oh no, not you again... Listen, this boy got pick-pocketed. Have you seen a dracomon or a gatomon acting suspiciously?" The digimon asked, hoping not to get this a third time.

Dokamon sighed. "It's... complicated, Duffer. You wouldn't understand..." The truth was, Dokamon didn't understand fully himself. Him and Johan just disagree strongly about various things, and their conflicting ideologies just kept clashing with each other. It was anyone's guess on what would happen next...
Duffer looked through his bag and pulled out a few coins, asking Dokamon if he thought that the Guardromon would take it. "No, he won't take it. That's like trying to pay for something with a couple leaves." And yet despite his best efforts, Duffer went up there to try it anyways. "Oh my god, I just said... wow, you're dumb." Guardromon asked Dokamon what his "boy" was offering. "Oh no, he's not my Tamer. My Tamer and his real Digimon are off somewhere. And Duffer, the Digital World uses bits as currency. You should know that by this point."
Back with Johan and Kotemon, the Betsumon looked confused. "What do you mean, 'me again'? I never seen you before in my life! ...eh, you're looking for a robber? Well, there was a Veemon earlier. Was holding something that was brown. I think he's over there!" The Betsumon then pointed in another direction, where a blue Veemon was walking away.
Sadly, if they did go over there, this was indeed ANOTHER Betsumon, as they'd horrifically discover. If he was turned around, then he'd drop all of the bread that he was carrying, rendering it all dirty and not edible. "What the heck! I just paid for all that stuff!"

Duffer sighed and gathered up his coins. "They're all American anyways, even back in Japan they're useless. It'd have been nice if this was like a video game and you could just sell whatever's in your pockets, you know?" Duffer asked before realizing he was talking to Dokamon. "Oh, Right." He looked annoyed and put everything back in his bag. "And try me about the troubles, I got some of the best advice from my older brother, and he's unemployed in a Trailer Park somewhere, probably losing his teeth in cans of beer." Across the Digital World, a man looked up from his Portable TV, ears burning. "Plus, I'll have you know I am working on something, without Kotemon's involvement. It'll be big, and important, and digimon and people alike will look in the history books and see me as a hero and not just some moron who can't even fight."Kotemon looked annoyed, and stomped on the bread to emphasize this. "I'll pay you back once I find the guy who stole my apprentice's wallet. Have you seen anyone shifty looking?" And if you point me to ANOTHER Betsumon I am going to break your legs, tear your digicore out, feed it to a Sukamon, and find your family! The digimon was barely able to contain the threat in her head, but hopefully the tone of the preceding sentence made it clear he was growing annoyed. Kotemon turned back to see if Johan was still following, waiting somewhat patiently if he was.
