"C'mon, you're sharper than this, Devi!"
"Hmph!"
For Denryu and his crew, this was about as close as what he could consider to be a 'normal' day in the Digital World. Further back on the grounds of his manor, the Xros General overlooked his partners' spar, carefully examining every detail between them. In this bout, his two main 'cores' had taken to their respective ultimate forms - the Renamon held a rapier and a set of mechanical wings, while the Devidramon maintained a helmet, metallic wings, and a ghastly aura.
And though it was a spar, one would have to be told that beforehand before they might believe it: every single contact between the fox's blade and the demon's claws let out a shockwave, enough for the ground to lightly rumble beneath them. Electricity cracked at each contact, and the Devidramon occasional let out a ghastly blast of phantasmal energy!
"Hm? The Renamon seems spirited today." Stepping up from behind the general, Emma cleared the bangs from her line of sight, idly watching over the fight. Denryu, tapping his foot, just gave a 'tsk'. "Woke up on the wrong side of the bed. She had to blow off some steam."
Even as he talked, he kept his focus on the fight - though he did give a question back. "Doc's coming today, right?"
"Mhm. She should be, anyway - the portal's scheduled to appear at the 'regular' place." Meaning, the place Emma had just texted the doctor ten minutes prior!
"Back to that, huh? Well, Dr. Cross is going to have to get used to you being a hardass at some point."
"Watch it..."

"Are you certain this is safe?" Cloak rumbled out eyeing the portal before them skeptically even as he helped his Tamer secure the equipment she would be needing for this operation upon the handcart. The Doctors trembling hands checking and rechecking the ties as she frowned down at her shaking fingers with the closest thing to scorn she could muster. It had been the first emotion either twin had seen on the Tamer's face since the incident. The Woman seeming to view the lack of control she could exert over her own damaged body as a silent insult.
"It is a scientific opportunity that I cannot afford to pass up." Cas spoke her voice raw still from the screams that had torn her throat asunder her tone clipped, mechanical, emotionless as the little bit of anger that had sparked in her eyes seemed to melt away at the prospect of her work. She had not time to heal as she knew Cloak and Dagger wished of her. There was so much work to be done and she could not afford to waste idle time on her own weakness. Glancing at his brother at the Doctor's lack of response Dagger merely shrugged.
"They need us or well...they need Cas." Dagger explained his words earning a low irritated growl from the Dark Knightmon as he motioned for the Duramon to take hold of the cart.
"Very well then." The black armored Digimon rumbled out bending low to scoop up his Tamer in his grip settling her lightly in the crook of one arm as the Doctor blinked up at him in confusion.
"I am capable of walking." She informed him with clinical detachment her blue eyes which peered up at Cloak the right shade and color thanks to the holosuit, but lacking that familiar spark. Lacking the warmth and recognition even as she looked upon him with muted confusion.
"I know Hime." Cloak murmured his low baritone going soft as he pressed their foreheads lightly together ignoring the barely there shimmer of the EV suit that prevented true touch. "Allow me this...please." He pleaded softly as the Doctor seemed to consider his request before offering a shallow nod. The ultimate Digimon relaxing at her acquiescing to his demands. The need to keep his Tamer close at hand lest further harm come to her nearly maddening in it's drive to be met.
"We need to depart." She spoke motioning to the portal even as the Dark Knightmon squared his shoulders golden eyes narrowed and twin spear at the ready as he stepped forward carrying his Tamer perched lightly on his arm looking for all the world some noble princess with her holosuit intact rather then the monster that lurked beneath. Dagger was likewise quick to follow dragging the hand cart in behind him as the scenery shifted before them to a familiar scene. Familiar at least to Dagger and Cassandra.

"Hm?"
Feeling a slight difference in data off in the distance - equivalent to two familiar ultimate levels - the Renamon backed away from her sparring partner, looking off in the direction of the front of the manner. In similar order, the Devidramon backed off, Denryu holding up one hand as a motion for the sparring group to pause. Like flicking a switch, Renamon went from a tense position to stretching out her back, settling herself behind Denryu - just as a temporary precaution.
"Just on time, it seems." It didn't take long for the three to reach the front of the mansion, and when they got there... well, a few faces seemed familiar, at least. That was still clearly Cassandra, though the look in her eyes and her 'tone' seemed quite different.
"Would you look at that, she's turning into you." Emma chided Denryu, the general just giving a sigh. "Rena, be a dear, hold the door open for the cart." The Renamon obliged, giving a small bow to the general before prying the door open, nodding to either Dagger or Cloak to bring the cart on downstairs. This was likely the equipment that Cassandra had mentioned earlier.
"Well, we'll have something to discuss after you set up. But before you do," he gave a slow blink to Cassandra, "Holosuit off, if you will. The EV suit is fine, but we can't allow any unnecessary electrical interference."
"... Shoot, she is wearing one." But how did Denryu catch onto that first?

Cloak lifted his spear casting his face in shadow at the sudden brightness of their new destination from that of the dark alley they had been in not moments before. Cassandra herself even blinking a few times as her own eyes adjusted, Dagger alongside her letting out a soft pained hissed.
"Ugh still haven't gotten used to that." The Duramon grumbled scanning the grounds as his gaze alighted upon their hosts. Cloak was just as quick to catch sight of the group of humans and Digimon the dark knights golden eyes narrowing with hostile intent as Denryu approached. Motioning to be allowed down the Doctor slipped from the Ultilate Digimon's grip reluctantly taking his free hand to steady herself as her knees threatened to buckle beneath her. The woman turning pale sky blue eyes upon the General in curiosity as she considered his request.
"The EV suit is for your own safety rather then mine. Are you certain you wish me to remove my holosuit? I'm afraid my condition has....progressed." The Doctor murmured holding the man's gaze for a moment before she glanced towards Dagger who had lingered despite needing to escort the equipment down to the lab leaving it to the other Digimon to do so. Instead choosing to remain and observe his Tamer's interaction.
"How was it my colleague put my appearance again Dagger?" She asked though she could recall the words well enough, but could not bring herself to speak them.
"Not for the faint of heart. They said....they said your appearance wasn't for the faint of heart." The Duramon replied with only a moments hesitation though there was sorrow in his eyes even as another irritated rumble echoed from the Doctor's looming shadow of a Dark Knightmon.
"Yes. That was it. I will remove it before entering the lab, but if you wish to spare yourself I will understand." Casandra intoned turning her attention to Denryu once more. "Though might I inquire how you could tell?" She asked with the barest tilt of her head the most human gesture the twins had seen from the woman in days. Her curiosity driving her to pause in her task for a moment to consider the man before her with scant interest.

Oh great - they were discussing this now? Holding open the door, the Renamon gave an irritated roll of her eyes, as Cassandra thought it necessary to warn her master about her progressed appearance. "If you think you can break that expression of his, be my guest."
Holding up a hand to the Renamon, the fox relenting at his unspoken order, Denryu simply gave a shrug. "Rarely anything I do is for the faint of heart. Compared to the terrors of a live D-Reaper nest, or even my sister's spirits, I have to say I won't be surprised by much." Besides, it wasn't good to hold masks or faces in front of allies, right?
Cassandra's next question was a curious one - but the general was quick to answer. "Its nothing fancy, but one that's been damaged by the D-Reaper would have more red in their system by now. But I can't see a single red vein on your skin - you simply look too perfect for how far it should have progressed by now."
"Denryu's a bit of an analyst. Or at least he likes to think he is." The spirit wielder tilted her head: "C'mon inside. Once you get everything set up, we can check where we are with Hunter."
Awkward introduction inside, it wouldn't take long to work that cart in: Renamon guided it right for a service elevator to the lower level, as Denryu unlocked the way down towards the basement. She'd still have her area to set up - but it seemed that they were in the middle of something else.
Well, they would have to be: what else would explain an electronic map of the desert across the main monitor? "Hm... you still sure you want her to see us working on this?"
"Why not? She's proven helpful so far."

"You assessment is...apt." Cassandra murmured her gaze seeming to sharpen upon the man's face zeroing in on him not unlike a bug beneath a telescope as the woman seemed to reconsider the General. "I will remove the holosuit, but not here." She agreed inclining her head towards Denryu and allowing Emma to shuffle the group inside her hand still resting lightly upon the Dark Knightmon's arm as he escorted her serving as silent support for the injured Tamer. Dagger would however nearby, but keep a step behind the Doctor and his twin his eyes lingering on Cassandra's hand upon Cloak's arm with something almost akin to longing. The twins clearly having suffered some sort of falling out in the meantime though the Doctor seemed to not notice such as they made their way down into the basement. Glancing at the work space provided for her Cas let out a soft mechanical hum her eyes darting over the area as she considered it before deeming it acceptable. Her gaze flickering briefly over the map noting it's appearance before she moved to check the equipment they had brought down only pausing in her work as Emma brought up said map once more. "Is this something that should be deemed of interest to me?" The Doctor inquired letting her eyes fall upon the location featured once more as she straightened coming to stand before the monitor as she glanced over her shoulder at the General arching a single blonde brow at his comment. "Very well..." She murmured canting her head to one side as she fingered the controls of her holosuit. "I suppose trust given is trust gained." Cassandra mused even as she turned to face them fully the illusion melting away like dew before the noon day sun. Revealing the horror hidden beneath. Hopefully Denryu had been correct in regards to his inability to be phased. If not.... The Doctor regarded the General and his group with glowing crimson eyes, her sclera as black a pitch. Surprisingly there were no bulging crimson veins to be seen upon the woman. Such symptoms were of course caused by the hosts body attempting to reject the hostile infection as their immune system reacted to it's intrusion. While the blood pumping through Cassandra veins was indeed a rich luminous red her body did not react to the infection because she herself was the one producing it. A D-reaper after all could not become ill from it's own virus not after she had already rid her body of the Others infection. Leaving the woman's skin marred only by occasional patches of smooth black and silver biometal which lacked the ragged carapace like appearance most D-reaper constructs possessed instead holding an almost fluidity to it's evolved form. "Am I what you expected Denryu?" She questioned with the barest twitch of a smile the gleaming white of her fangs on clear display as she spoke motioning to her form with the sleek metallic construction of her arm. Making no point to hide the wicked and curving scythe like claws that graced the tips of her fingers and peaked out like talons from her boots. The slight gleaming shimmer of the EV suit the only thing standing between her and the world beyond like a tiger coiled within a glass cage. For the first time in a long time the Doctor would appear almost amused at their horror even if such was a cold amusement. The sort of joy one sought because it was easier to laugh lest you cry. As for the Digimon... while Cassandra had smelled of the D-reaper before there was very little about her scent that could be called human now. With the smell of ozone, metal, and something not unlike power overwhelming what little of the woman's natural scent was left leaving the barest hint of leather and honeysuckle beneath it.

"Hm? Fine with me." The point about the holosuit really wasn't too much of a stickler to him, though that careful tracing gaze was returned with one of Denryu's own. Well, if he was able to infer that much off a simple glance, what could the Xros General accomplish if he would put his full attention on something?
Well, that was a thought for another time. Soon the cart - and the rest of the group - would make their way to the basement. "Well, ideally, the desert's something we could use your help with... but might as well get everything else sorted first." Between installing Cassandra's equipment and running a few tests on Hunter, there was definitely an agenda to follow. That started, of course, with Cassandra finally revealing her 'true' appearance.
Black eyes. Metallic skin. A surprisingly cool, chilled demeanor that could easily rattle one to the bone. Denryu's brow arched in mild surprise - but he didn't spend more than a glance on those eyes. No, he seemed more interested in the metal, that fully metallic arm of her's. "Interesting. I thought as the infection took hold, the skin would take on a more jagged texture. But even your arm seems to have been smoothed out." The tone suggested a mild, impressed look, as Emma glanced from a distance.
"Honestly, the off-brand Renamon eyes are throwing me off a bit."
"Oh, please. Mine only glow when I'm pissed off." Then again, maybe that was Cassandra's default? "Well, maybe she'll get along with Hunter, then."
"Anyway," Emma shrugged, a nod to the doctor: "A dialysis machine and a cooling tank to install, right? Mind if I give a hand?" She had a handle on fixing up Blimpmon and Trailmon, after all - she could handle a bit more than a wrench!

"I believe," The Doctor murmured lifting her fully metal arm to inspect the sleek scythe like claws that tipped her fingers, "It is due to the fact that I am a new strain." The Woman murmured letting the group make of that what they would.
"However I won't be able to fully confirm such information until I run further tests. For which of course the equipment needs to be set up." Cassandra added inclining her head in thanks towards Emma as she strode back towards the equipment. "Any assistance would be welcome." She spoke her tone still clipped, but perhaps just a hair less mechanical as though something had begun to stutter to life within the woman. The bantering if nothing else seeming to do her good though interacting with those who did not immediately reject her for fear or view her with pity certainly might have helped.
Either way as she worked should Denryu linger the General would find himself being observed just as keenly by the Doctor as he observed her.

"True - this is nothing like what was seen before the whole Dark Area incident."
Past that, Denryu was merely going by conjecture - and Emma would be much more useful in the short term than the General could manage. As such, Denryu decided to step off to the side, sitting down at his own console as Emma and Cassandra set off to work. Despite Cassandra's robotic tone (or perhaps because of it?), Emma would find no problem following along with directions, even able to set up most of the cooling unit without Dr. Cross' direct input.
"Winter paintballs... makes sense." Carefully setting that box off to the side, a good few hours later, those two rooms were set up: both a room to safely release and observe the Meicoomon, as well as another to test Cassandra's dialysis theory regarding the D-Reaper. All the while, Denryu kept Emma and Cassandra, as well as the twins, in his periphery. As the 'tech team' wrapped up, the General found himself tapping a finger at the edge of the desk.
"Hm... right there?"
"Assuming no-one's dug it out first, yes." Denryu tapped a red 'X', at a seemingly inconspicuous point on the desert map - well, that wasn't exactly fair. The scrap paper surrounding the desk held several line maps: "If its really the drifting sands, as they say."
"I'll double-check that later. I'd hate to use that spirit and find out the Dragon's Effigy was on the other side of the desert." Just what were they talking about? Well, Emma and Denryu wouldn't be shy to letting Cassandra take a look, though the more important details seemed to be lacking from their words. Though the doctor might feel a light tick at the word 'dragon'... much like she would have felt one at 'lion'.
Right there - could there really be another?

"If all goes well the Hunter will come to the logical conclusion that struggling against their restraints will get them nowhere. If they do not the cooling system will drop the temperature to a point they will have difficulty functioning." Cas explained laying out the design for the containment room and leaving it for the moment in Emma's capable hands as she worked alongside Cloak and Dagger to set up the lab. Installing the equipment she would need and laying out the dialysis machine and the parts and chemicals she had acquired to modify it.
At the mention of a Dragon Effigy however, the woman paused some distant connection she still held with the original D-reaper seeming to echo with it's interest as she narrowed her gaze. Systematically turning her attention on such a connection and blocking it with more vindictive spite then she'd thought herself capable of in that moment
"There are more of those statues?" Dagger questioned glancing towards Denryu and the others where he'd taken up guarding his Tamer's back while she and his twin worked.
"I believe the Luminas contingent mentioned a prior one in the Dark area that was damaged." Cloak rumbled out pausing in his work alongside Cassandra as the Doctor turned her full attention on the General once more arching a single questioning brow as she surveyed the map that had held his teams attention for so long with new interest.
"There are more statues. IT wouldn't be so interested if there were not. Though for what reason are you seeking out such an effigy if I might ask?" The Doctor inquired tone clipped and crimson eyes burning with wary interest all her own.

Well, that certainly got the doctor's attention. Looking over his shoulder as Cassandra perked up, Denryu gave a nod towards Cloak and Dagger. "Well, if its based around the Sovereign, its natural to think there's at least four. With how much attention the Phoenix drew, there's been a lot of furor over finding the rest."
Of course, Cassandra's question stuck out as well. Yes, just what were these two looking for the statue for? "You've said it yourself - the D-Reaper that's boiling inside of you is part of another strain - meaning its abnormal."
A short distance away, the Renamon gave a nod: "The D-Reaper is a constant of the Digital World - as natural as gravity or anything else." Crouching down, the fox pressed her claw against the floor, to a loosened floor tile - placed aside during their installation of the cooling system - and focused. In several short bursts, 'fire' and 'electrical' energy quickly alternated... and after about a minute, and with a slight wince, she held up the floor tile. There - in a definite small amount - the lichen of the D-Reaper had appeared on the tile.
"It appears where data is corrupted, settles it back into line, and then remains in that state. That's it - the D-Reaper, as it was known before that incident, is nothing more than a corrective program. Its now theorized that the statues simply 'restrain' it to that state - like an EV suit across the entire planet." Emma gave a shrug, but Denryu pressed on:
"But that's just a theory. The statues are not understood - neither their make-up nor their true effect on the world. Built-up stress pushed through the Phoenix until a giant nest appeared... but what if we try something here?" He gave a tap on the screen: "The desert is largely devoid of what we would call 'corruption events'. If we were to seal off the statue, we'd have a chance to observe - both it, and the effects in the surrounding area."
Interesting - so this was a field study? There was certainly more pieces than that - but for now, the general took a pause, more than certain Cassandra might have a few words to get in.

"I am aware of the D-reapers pervasiveness in it's natural state." Cassandra spoke voice clipped and machine like in her observations even as she watched the Renamon's demonstration before turning to the monitor once more leaning close to it as she inspected the area. The idea of a field test rousing her curiosity.
"How would you go about isolating the statue from the surrounding area? You would need to cut it off from the fabric of the digital world itself to fully severe it from the D-reaper. Not to mention what will be stopping any nest that crops up in the area due to the isolation from merely destroying the statue once it's reinstated?" The Doctor questioned dissecting the project with clinical detachment though her crimson eyes seemed to alight with bright intelligence her mind already falling upon the issues at hand like a wolf upon carrion.
"If you are correct in the desert being devoid of corruption events as you summarize it then it's likely the statue there is well preserved and physically intact. Though the desert is not completely devoid. There are no nests, but there is a D-agent that has taken to roaming the area with his little cult." Cassandra summarized stepping towards Denryu as she would motion for him to scoot over or vacate the chair. Taking the mouse and swiftly marking down the ruins upon the map if allowed to do so.
"The desert is not the most defensible location. Though you would have visual forewarning on an incoming attack so long as it came from above ground." Cloak rumbled out assessing the map with a critical and tactical eye.
"You will likewise need a way to monitor the D-reaper activity in the area." The Doctor theorized crimson eyes sharp looking more alive then her partners had seen her in quite some time at the prospect of the research before them. She knew the D-reaper was capable of learning. Whether it was capable of applying it's knowledge or simply hoarding knowledge for knowledges sake was debatable though the mere idea of sinking her talons into the pool of data it had likely assimilated from it's victims and agents left Cassandras chest clenching with hunger and want.

This was a good sign - Cassandra had moved straight onto the 'how', rather than questioning the ethics of performing something so dangerous. Of course, the Doctor's concerns were sound: how would they pull this off? How would they reinstate the statue safely? Heck, how would they even go about defending their work?
"True, simply moving the statue isn't enough - but there is one Digimon capable of sealing the statue off entirely." Denryu's voice was calm and confident: drawing his Xros Loader, he flipped through the records, to send Cassandra information regarding that particular Digimon. "That is one of Emma's spirits. With it, we can effectively seal the statue in a place that is not technically in the Digital nor the Human World - and be able to passively analyze its entire data structure."
"Once the observation period is done, its simply a matter of destroying any nearby nest or agent before releasing the statue again." Honestly, it sounded like the D-Reaper was the least of their concerns in this situation... but the backlash from Luminas, or even any onlooker, might prove troublesome.
As for D-Reaper activity in the desert as a whole? "I would love to have every chip in play beforehand, but its not like we can simply organize a larger group for this." Folding his hands, the general gave a sigh. "The records of what happened in the north have been found vandalized in Luminas - and honestly, a fair amount of information about the Dark Area had been leaked before. Even if its not a perfect play, it might still be the best card in our hand."
Was that good enough? If Cassandra was still on-board, he could get to the plan in more detail.

"This could work." Cassandra murmured scrolling through the data sent to her by Denryu on her D-terminal a calculative glint in her eyes as she mentally ran the statistics. Cloak leaning over her shoulder alongside Dagger to examine the file as well.
"You would need to ensure the 'host' projecting the isolation field remains undamaged otherwise having the field collapse could be catastrophic for us and the statue." The Doctor theorized closing the report as she glanced up at the General once more her crimson eyes nearly hypnotically bright in her interest and gleaming with cold hunger.
"With that in mind our current project will be all the more important. You'll need the Hunter's strength and I will need a reliable way to treat any D-virus infections that might be incurred by you dealing with any subsequent nests that crop up. That is if you intend to include me in this project." Cassandra summarized mind awhirl with what needed to be done, but the data that could be gathered from such a project. The knowledge priceless and oh so precious and the theories she could test left the woman feeling lighter then she had since....since before the incident. A slow barely there smile sharp and bright curling the edges of her lips. This she could do.
"I can likewise monitor the D-reaper activity in the area and serve as a...warning system of sorts. I am an abnormality, a new strain, but I can still sense the D-reaper albeit distantly. I haven't made it a point to explore the connection beyond simply blocking it however." The Doctor explained only to blink her heart stuttering in her chest as Denryu mentioned the reports on the Northern statue being vandalized. Cloak and Dagger stiffening beside her in alarm as Casandra's pupils narrowed to pinpricks her form trembling.
Vandalized....it had been vandalized....that meant someone...someone knew. Knew about her beyond those that had been there and the Luminas contingent would never dare breath a word and risk revealing themselves as incompetent on anything off the record.
"Hime you were in critical condition. They may not know you survived. No one would have expected you to survive." Cloak murmured attempting to reassure his Tamer her fair skin having already gone nearly bloodless as the woman struggled not to hyperventilate.

"Of course - that's where the rest of us come in." Given Cassandra's tone, Denryu had no reason to think that the doctor wasn't on board at this point - right now, she was simply trying to sort everything in place, and set a schedule. That, of course, meant that their work on Hunter was all the more important.
"Given Hunter's species, it might not be overly difficult to try and remove the more harmful aspects of the D-Reaper's data, at least in her - though at this point that might just be conjecture." With a shrug, she continued: "If Hunter is unsafe or unavailable for use, we'll simply half to fall to our backup. I'd rather Dreadnaught be in the air than 'inside', but that one would be serviceable enough."
"ArcBlimpmon." Filling that piece of information in, Denryu listened to that last point - Cassandra offered to act as a monitor? "There's potential there, though Emma'll be able to act on that front as well. Most likely your role would be more defensive - hm?" His attention was drawn to the doctor, seeing her expression narrow on note of the file. Cloak's reaction confirmed this... and to that, Denryu gave a sigh.
"Unknown yellow-haired tamer, looking to be in her late twenties, seen at the location of Baihumon. On seeing the statue, appears to suffer an adverse reaction. For safety, tamer isolated and then removed by assisting group. Partners to a Zubamon and Kotemon line. Halfway through speaking, he'd already pulled up the file on the monitor - and sent it to print, already being made available for the Doctor's review.
"If Luminas has their hands in it, you'll be sure there'll be those trying to view it as well." Emma made her way to the back wall - and, moments later, offered a bottled iced tea to the doctor. "It just means you're in this shit as deep as we are."
