Amelie had been in car dealerships once or twice in her whole life, even though she barely held to those memories. How long had it been since the last time? Thirteen, or maybe more years ago? Recalling the last time she had been surrounded by brand-new cars was a bit pointless, but not something she could avoid to do.
She had to wonder, though; why most car salesmen (or salesmon?) had the tendency of slapping the roofs of the cars they tried to sold? It seemed kinda... weird. But then again, digimon culture was as weird as it came. For now, she was just doing the equivalent of window shopping, not entirely sure of what she wanted.
Maybe something fast, or maybe something rugged? Something fashionable for sure, but... what? Amy hadn't been this indecisive in her whole life, maybe; what was she expecting, finding the ultimate car and being blinded by it, or something of the like? Because that was not happeni-
And that's when she gazed at it. It was probably the most awesome car she had ever seen in her life. White, slick, sharp and definitely elegant. At that moment, she kinda wondered how she hadn't been able to see it before.
But... at least now she definitely knew what she wanted. She immediately made a beeline towards there, hoping a salesman(mon?) would be able to smell the obvious sale and notice her.

It was one thing to go into a dealership, and window shop or try and buy one off the lot.
It was entirely another thing to try and specifically order something ahead of time - and that was the world where Luke and Iko found themselves. Having been in the dealership's garage for some time, the Ankomon couldn't help but pinch the bridge of his nose. "Luke..."
"Hm?" Standing next to the wolf, with crossed arms, the tamer gave a blink. "Something biting you?"
"Its just that I expected all of this to be done ahead of time. Exactly why do we need to be here when they're still working in the last parts?"
"You're the one who just wanted to come here and 'get it over with'. Besides, its not like we could have done another job or anything today." Alright, that might have been true - but the wolf was still stir-crazy at this point!
"And you're just able to watch all this?"
"Oh, all day." He gave a nod, Iko more-or-less astounded at the response... but with a sigh, he just let it roll past. "Alright, fine. Shouldn't be much longer, right? Let's at least get something of a walk in..."
That was how Iko and Luke ended back back in the dealership proper. At this point, the salesmon's already knew that they were just trying to kill time, letting the two idly look at the more flashy models at the end. There was no need to try and double down on a customer...
But Amelie? Well, in all likelihood, someone would have followed up with her in less than a minute, smiles on their faces as they saw someone absolutely enamored with the model. White, slick, blinding - definitely a fascinating showpiece, enough to draw the pair's attention.
Far be it from them to try and interrupt a sale, though - but who knew how many extras they were already trying to upsell her for?

Yup, it wasn't long. Soon enough, a Sealsdramon clad in what looked like a business suit rather than its usual military attire. He cleared her throat, breaking Amelie's reverie and making her look at him a bit awkwardly.
"Nice car over there, isn't it? It was custom-made for another digimon, but they suffered an... unfortunate accident. Regrettably, eggs can't pay for cars, nor have need of them, so there it is, kinda. Interested in it? I can give you a quick rundown of what this baby can do!" Overall, if Amelie had fallen in love at first sight before knowing what it could do, being explained everything that it could do multiplied that excitement thousandfold.
But here's when the painful part began. "So. How much does it cost?"
"Everything? The starting price is two hundred thousand bits." Yup, exorbitant to say the least. But Amy's field of expertise wasn't to haggle prices or to know how much a car actually costs. And, in all honesty, was seriously thinking about dishing out the money, even though that was probably a bit more than her allowed budget for a car.
She was just stuck there, thinking about the proposal. It was hard, but that car was just so prettyyyyy.

Well, well... love at first sight with the car, huh?
Honestly, it was a bit of a show to see Amelie put through the car dealer ringer like that. The vehicle was honestly an impressive beast: suited for underwater travel? Chrome Digizoid armor? More than one defensive feature? It had all that and more - including several frivolous things that the Sealsdramon thought it wise to bring forward.
Oh, but the price. Even Luke's bike in the back hadn't cost that much. But it was clear that Amelie was caught on this salesperson's hook... and the starting price was 200,000 bits? Taking a glance at the label, seeing it in its plastic sleeve, Luke gave a blink.
He glanced towards Iko, tilting his head towards the model one over. As the wolf walked on, Luke spoke up: "Two hundred thousand? Isn't that just the order price of the car this... I think, Andromon, ordered?" Indeed: pulling the paper from the label even revealed that it had been part of the contract that the fallen Digimon had signed. Tilting in to look through the window, the engineer gave a nod.
"And so much that still needs to be done. A car with nitro has to have a seat specifically fitted to the driver. The dash is still written in Digital Script, the leg room's meant for a Digimon three times her height - and the resistance on the steering wheel's probably way too high." Despite being critical, Luke kept his tone level, giving a shrug as he looked towards the dealer.
"Tell me, how long's this car been sitting on the lot?"

Sealsdramon was pretty much sure of this sale going just as planned. It was true that, when a custom car ordered with a single person in mind had to be given to another buyer there was usually a drastic drop in price, but that wasn't something that this human had to know, right?
However, that was something that another human had to be smart about. With a long sigh, the Sealsdramon gazed at the newcomer with a 'this is none of your business' look before smiling not-super innocently. "That's true, mister; you do have a point, but... it isn't like those minute details are going to devaluate this piece of machinery, right? As you can see, it is undoubtedly first class. And more than able to hold its own against some of the fastest digimon around."
By now, the spell was partially broken on Amy; sure, it was still a really pretty car, but the truth was that somebody trying to rip her off rubbed her the wrong way, and in more ways than one. Not losing time, she drew near Luke, and whispered into his ear.
"Umm. Do you really think this is overvalued at the moment? By... how much, if I can ask?" Sure, this was a total stranger, but if he had been kind enough to stand by her, asking him his input was probably the smart thing to do.
Meanwhile, the Sealsdramon couldn't but sweatdrop at the male's final question. "It's been in here for... six months or so."

Well, of course Luke probably overstepped his bounds - it was why he sent Iko to look at another car, so that he could watch the Sealsdramon from another angle. Just-in-case, of course, but it seemed that the salesmon was more frustrated than anything else. Of course, he tried to turn his sales pitch right around on the engineer, something that only put a small smirk on Luke's face.
Thankfully, Amelie already seemed to catch on, slipping near his side to whisper that question. That was a tricky question, unfortunately: the car was likely built at a true sale price of 200,000 bits - but that was a matter of six months ago, to build a vehicle that was tailor-made for a specific species of Digimon. Considering the question, Luke mulled it over, and whispered back: "Over by 60,000."
However, Luke wasn't about to just leave the Sealsdramon off on just those words, and instead would move that sales pitch right back around. "Well, then the car's just dying on the lot - eating up a show-space where you could be showing a new model, or maybe a real piece of eye-candy to try and draw more in. Now, if she came on in this morning and ordered this thing tailor-made for herself - without the brace for the Andromon seat and without needing to put so much torque in the wheel, she might have come in around, say, 160?" That was just about accurate - but now to 'sweeten the pot'.
"But most of that's labor, right? Ya got her sold on one thing, that's the exterior - you can put this thing right back in the garage and you don't gotta re-cut a thing. Double-check the engine, set it so she won't break her leg the first time she tries the nitro, and you can have this 'lemon' out of here as her dream car in... I'd say, four, five hours? Wrap the whole thing in at 130. And trust me, that's still 130,000 more than any non-Andromon's gonna pay for it."
He might have come on strong - but even if the Sealsdramon rebuffed to the 'next' logical number, 140,000, that would come in right at Luke's estimate. Of course, there was also the matter if Amy would be even willing to pay that much!

In all frankness, Sealsdramon had expected an easy sell; somebody not really hard to trick and to get rid of an obviously overpriced car that, while truly beautiful on its own, had been an undeniable victim of its circumstances. However, the new human's words weren't mistaken, but that didn't mean he wouldn't argue for a more reasonable price. After all, selling an undesired model was worth a lot, even if not a wide margin of profit had been reaped from it.
A something is always better than nothing deal. Even though he had been this close to making the sale of his life. And it was a meddlesome teenager's fault.
Yet... Amelie's eyes had widened as soon as the kind stranger had told her that this was way, way overpriced than it should. It was probably correct to trust him, especially when 140000 bits were something that was definitely in her budget, as opposed to... roughly 34ish% more. In a sense, she felt both relieved and ripped off at the same time; not the best feeling, but she wasn't complaining at the moment.
"Oh." A simple answer, and probably fitting given that the haggling between Luke and the Sealsdramon was about to resume.
Even though it wasn't really a war at this point. "Well. Yes, you're right, but you can't deny this model is pretty much peerless, right? Custom-built cars are definitely not something in exposition all that often, and this very model being here is an exception, more than a rule. Usually, those are privately sold, as you might know."
The digimon made a pause, nodding at the terms. "Well, of course the car would be fitted for the new passenger, and that was included in the starting price. You drive a tough bargain, kid. Ever thought about being a salesman? You'd probably be able to sell wood to a forest." A chuckle ensued, in a strange show of lightheartedness. "I gotta say that you're smart, but I'll give you an ultimatum; One hundred forty thousand. And you'll have the car ready in half an hour; you won't even notice it was even designed with somebody else in mind. Does that sound like a deal?"
Maybe Amelie was quick to jump on the gun, but that sounded like the best deal they'd be able to get. Sides, even observing others haggling was a bit tiresome; she just wanted a car, after all. "Deal. Where do I have to sign?"
To that, Sealsdramon seemed to be genuinely happy. "That's what I wanted to hear. Wait for me here; I'll get this bad boy into the workshop and go get the legal paperwork. I'll be right back."
And with that, the digimon began to make his way towards the main office, prompting a sigh of relief from the brunette.
"Thanks for helping me." She said, genuinely thankful. "I was already smelling the hole on my wallet."
A bit of an awkward giggle ensued before giving the mysterious helper a good look. He... looked familiar, didn't he. "Wait. I think I've seen you before; you were there, back when those strange black monoliths began to randomly spring, right? Your partner was... a white mammal, if I recall correctly!" Had she sounded too excited? Accusing? Maybe; she blushed a bit at the sudden outburst. "Sorry for that, It's kind of a funny coincidence, I guess."
Her previous expression was instantly replaced with a kind smile as she extended her hand. "I think we hadn't been formally introduced. My name's Amelie Saboro; pleased to meet you!"

'Custom' was a funny word, even for high-end cars: all it meant was that the vehicle was made solely for the person that bought it! Still, the Sealsdramon did have a point: this vehicle did have a good 'base' going for it. "Well, of course, but its a glove to only fit one hand, right?"
There wasn't much purpose to putting the Sealsdramon's words too much further in the dirt. The salesman shpiel started once again - but this time, the salesmon knew he was, at least indirectly, speaking to someone who had more than a base knowledge about cars. Luke simply gave a chuckle at that comment regarding being a salesperson, and at that counter-offer, he gave a nod - one that was matched right with Amelie's 'deal'. Right on Luke's estimate!
"Sounds good to me, too." Giving just that one comment back to the Sealsdramon, he gave a nod as Amelie gave her words of thanks. "Don't worry about it - doesn't matter the world, car salespeople like to try and get every 'bit' they can out of you. I'll take a look through the contract when he brings it back, just to make sure everything's in order." All this talk didn't matter at all if the 'extras' brought it right back up to 200,000, right? The conversation quickly took on a more casual tone, though... he seemed familiar? The black monolith?
"Oh... oh! Oh, right, Dragon's Valley!" It clicked in his head! "Oh, no, its fine. Small world, I know - the, um, 'squirrel' you saw is right over there."
"Oh, and ha-ha to you." Walking back to Luke's side for a moment, the wolf passed by with a brief hand over his shoulder, before he moved to check out another vehicle - it looked like an upcoming model for the next cycle. Leaving the Digimon to his own devices, Luke extended out his own hand:
"Luke Destro. Pleasure to meet you, too." He gave a nod: "Iko and I were just coming around to pick up our new bike. Tried looking at the dealer a few times, but there was just nothing that fit the bill..." And considering the conversation that just went on here, Luke kept the fact that he just shelled out 220,000 on his own vehicle to himself. "You been looking at cars for a while, then?"

Overall, this had been a positive experience, at least for Amelie! Getting a huge discount on what was undoubtedly something to be happy about. Also meeting an acquaintance that she had stumbled upon before was... interesting. And similarly positive, thus far, especially given that he had been the main reason why he had gotten the discount.
She caught a glance at Luke's own partner, his body being quite different from what her memory told her, obviously suggesting that he was a stage above at the moment. Amy waved at him, even though he didn't seem to be that interested in socializing when surrounded by cars. That was fine, however; it wasn't such a big deal.
A stark comparison, if there was any! The brunette couldn't help but blush a bit. "I'm actually... a newbie at this buying car thingy, if it wasn't obvious. Not a very fancy story; just had a fair share of bits laying around, and given how unreliable the Trailmons can be at times, decided that the best way to spend those would be on something like this. But wasn't overly convinced until I saw that car."
A simple story, with a simple conclusion! Amy was kinda lucky to have gotten such a high-end model with so little investment and/or knowledge. "Take you've been working on your ride for a while, then? Wonder how it looks; A custom-built bike sounds like a piece of work. I'd love to see it at some point." She didn't know a lot about anything with engines, but at least could tell that whatever Luke had decided to order must've been kinda amazing, given his knowledge.

Honestly, the cars were of little interest to Iko - this was simply how he was around 'new' people. The wolf was never one to simply jump in and talk unless he had a reason to. But heck, the setting of a car dealership hid that fact fairly well, almost making him seem 'normal'. Well, that, and the Ankomon felt a bit like a 'third wheel' at this point. He still returned a half-wave back, showing that he wasn't completely oblivious.
Luke returned a small smile at Amelie's comment. "Well, we all have to start somewhere - though a car dealership in the Digital World's an interesting place to go about it." Though maybe that was for the best - bits didn't exactly mean as much as 'yen' did, maybe? "I'll give you that on the Trailmon, though, the service out in the desert or the woods can be outright atrocious. And have you ever seen one change tracks just to try out a new 'shortcut'?" Yeesh, that was an experience! Several hours lost and at least a few vocal cords strained!
But, it seemed that both of them weren't going to have that problem after today! "Mhm, I've been off-and-on with the tech guys down here for a few weeks now. Whole thing's going to be wrapping up today - heck, I'll show you what it looks like once we're done with the paperwork here." He followed that with a chuckle: "Back in Japan I'm working on an engineering degree, so most of this stuff makes sense to me. Sorta miffed that they have hovercrafts figured out so well down here already, but what can ya do?"

Maybe trying this had been a bit of a faux pas on itself? In hindsight, it seemed like that, but...
"This probably wasn't the best start, but it wasn't like I had entered this place knowing for sure that I'd get a car; the initial idea was just to do some window shopping, when... well, I saw something I really liked. I guess I gotta be more careful the next time." Truth was that she had been quite lucky, on both accounts; finding a car that she liked and getting it with a pretty hefty discount.
Anyone defending the Digital World's Trailmon service was probably insane or really inexperienced, so Luke's response was more or less expected. Yet, Amelie couldn't but bring herself to agree. "I think that the farther want to get to is from Terminus or another major city, the most likely you are of ending... somewhere else altogether. I think I've been in this world enough to know how to get to most places by myself, and I actually don't mind driving all that much, so... I guess this is the logical next step, kinda."
The bike's story was interesting, prompting a nod and a smile from Amy's stead at the mention of eventually being shown it. However, what the brunette found the most interesting was her new acquaintance's academic aspirations. That was something that the people she met seldom mentioned.
"An engineering degree, huh? That's really interesting! Isn't it a bit frustrating, considering how advanced is the Digital World's technology compared to ours? Or is that some kind of motivator? It must be pretty fascinating." She made a small pause, before adding. "I'm trying to get an architecture degree at some point; maybe plan or build something great someday. I think that'd be nice."
But that was the far-flung future. Right now, there were more important things... like the Sealsdramon coming back, at least five pages worth of a contract in hand. "The car will be moved to be adjusted as soon as you sign these. Take your time."
Promptly, the document was handed to the brunette, who just... took out her glasses in order to begin reading it. This would probably take a bit.

"Hey, when it clicks, it clicks!" Lucky or not, Luke wasn't going to fault Amelie for falling for this machine - even at its higher price point, the sheer amount of upgrades that it managed to fit in and its specs made it quite impressive for a two-seater. Honestly, the idea of a car in the Digital World - over a motorcycle, at least - seemed just a bit too unwieldy, but to each their own!
And yes, it was easy to rag on the trains, though Amelie's next point was more interesting: "Oh? How long have you been around in the Digital World?" Luke gave a shrug: "We're approaching up on two-and-a-half years ourselves; getting hard to remember a time when I didn't have Iko tagging along." Well, more-or-less, anyway.
Oh? It seemed Amelie was another academic type! "Well, more unsettling than frustrating, but it just means I have a whole new type of machine to 'tear into'. Honestly, seeing a bit of the tech side of the Digital World's done wonders for how I'm learning to apply stuff on the real side... when the 'physics' match up, anyway." Sometimes, things in the Digital World just 'worked' - but Luke returned that same point back to her: "How about you? Between the floating islands and scrap buildings, I'm sure the architecture of the Digital World's gotta look strange at one point or another - hm?"
Oh, right, the contract! As Luke had promised, the tamer stuck around, looking through the terms of it all. Actually, most of it seemed on the level, as Amelie went page-by-page. Price terms were right, turnaround was right, the warranty was reasonable - really, Luke only had one point of caution. "Just cross out the entire third page - big X through the signature. No reason to sign to only have this place service it - not like running all the way out to Rustport's convenient every time." Yes, there were rudimentary discounts, but it would also limit her options of service to just one dealer.
Which is not what you wanted when your car broke down right outside of Terminus Auto!

It was indeed an interesting question, Amelie had to admit. For how long had she been in the Digital World? "Well, um." If only counting days were that easy... "I've known about this world for a little more than six months in Human World time. How much it was in Digimon World time is kinda hard to calculate, but I guess that I've spent about... almost a year or so doing stuff in here? More or less."
There were chances of that being either a gross under or overestimation, but when the time was seven times as fast; she knew for sure that her weekends were more or less a consistent visit as of late in order to check the Great Library and to see how the rest of the club was doing, and that plus the spare day where she had nothing to do probably amount to that amount of time. Making the mental operations to convert time was kind of a drag, and not something the brunette would put much effort into doing at the moment.
"Two hears and a half sounds like a lot, though. Take you've been through quite a bit of stuff. This world has the penchant of surprising you a little bit more every time you think you've figured it out, hasn't it?"
However, the topic that brought the most of her attention was how to integrate the lessons learned in the Digital World to one's everyday life. That was something really interesting, and even Amy couldn't deny that she hadn't given it some thought. "That's a nice way to see it, I guess; it's true that some of the stuff in here 'just works', but I wonder if a more fitting explanation can be found somewhere. I don't know, maybe I'm just rambling." She blushed a bit at the realization. "But I gotta admit that the Digital World as a whole is a pretty... eye-opening experience, at least from a design perspective. I can't say I haven't drawn inspiration from it."
The conversation was cut short due to Sealsdramon's arrival, though! The contract seemed to be mostly okay, even though the brunette had failed to notice the part that Luke did; she found herself agreeing with him almost right away.
"Rescinding that part of the contract will carry an additional fare of five-thousand bits. Is that okay with you?" Not wanting to prolong this thing, the teenager just gave a quick nod. "Okay, sign the rest of the pages and we should be good to go."
One, two, three, four... five signatures. Okay, that was it. "Thank you, if you can wait thirty or so minutes, your car will be ready."
Another nod and some relief washing over her later, Amelie finally smiled at Luke once the salesmon walked away. "Thank you, even though I may be stuck in here for a bit. What about your bike? Do you think it's ready?"

Six months human world time, huh? "Have to admit, the conversion's thrown me off a few times - great time to sneak in an extra week of studying, though." Luke joked, but he'd be lying if he said that he didn't take advantage of it once or twice, Iko giving a small chuckle off in the background. To think, if Luke had spent time time continuously in the Digital World, that would be seventeen-and-a-half years spent on this accelerated timeline. Luke, of course, hadn't spent nearly that long on this side, but surely it was enough for those on the other side to notice a difference?
Perhaps there was a reason that some people just ended up staying on this side. "Yeah, Iko and I have been through our fair share of the ringer quite a bit - its amazing what people think they can get away with on this side. Even just reading through the mission guild postings can be overwhelming sometimes..." Really, what was a 'Mushroommon infestation', and why were they asking for participants on the mushrooms' side?
That weirdness aside, they shared a common ground on the Digital front, Luke adding a small chuckle to Amy's point. "Heh, I get ya. Figuring out the 'actual magic' that allows the buildings to float like that would be quite useful - though they do take a bit from us in their design, as well..."
Case-in-point, automotive contracts! The 5,000 bit surcharge, though likely unnecessary, was of a moot point to argue: it was already more than offset by Amelie only having to be here for thirty minutes instead of four or more hours. It seemed that they would both be stuck here for a while longer - though as for the bike? "Should be, just about. Wouldn't hurt to pop back and take a look?" He gave a wave over towards Iko, who simply gave them a thumbs-up - no point for him to butt in! And assuming Amelie would want to, Luke would lead on back to the garage...
... Just in time to see them doing the last tests on the vehicle, a Datamon calling out: "Nitro UP!"
The impressive rev of an engine filled the room, a purple streak of flame shooting cleanly back out towards a controlled area. No misfires, no 'shots' - the fuel injection ran smoothly, and everything about this bike seemed up to snuff! The vehicle itself was, obviously, smaller than Amelie's own, holding the 'general' shape of a motorcycle from the human side... albeit with hover pads instead of wheels.
The specifics were a bit hard to tell from the sides, but this hover-bike was well-armored for its type, holding both a nitro tank and an EMP pulse for their respective use. The entire vehicle sported a dark purple color, contrasted with a lighter purple 'flame decal' that stretched along the sides. Its entire motif matched a more 'dark' or 'metal' feel, Luke scratching his head as its appearance. To him it looked cool, but...
"Well, there it is." He'd rattle out the details, if asked, but honestly his tone sort of fell flat there!

It was true that the time difference could get somewhat troublesome if you didn't handle it responsibly, and that had been a bit of a concern to Amelie for quite a bit of time. Luckily for her, she had managed just fine, at least for now. A plain nod was the first answer Luke got, even though that left the brunette thinking.
How many people got lost in this gigantic whirlpool of time? She couldn't deny the possibility being very real, and that was somewhat concerning; using it as a way to study for longer? That was undoubtedly something she hadn't considered. And it was kinda enticing, she had to admit.
"The Digital World definitely can get pretty wonky if you're not careful with it, that's for sure." Amy made a small pause, considering those words. "I've been in a couple of missions, but none of them sounded particularly otherworldly, at least. That's good, I guess."
Deciphering how the Digital World worked would definitely be a diamond in the rough; so many possible applications to those teachings made her mind go wild, figuratively. "Maybe someday. I kinda look forward to that day, that's for sure."
Pity there wasn't something they could discuss about the topic that neither of them understood. Instead, after dispatching the Sealsdramon, the teenager just nodded at her new friend's words. "Sure; I'm really excited to see what kind of ride you assembled. Lead the way." And those left her with her mouth slightly agape, that much was for sure. She had to admit that she wasn't a fan of bikes, but the beast in front of her was definitely a work of art, and Amy could definitely appreciate that.
"Looks amazing." She remarked with a smile, circling the model to give it a thorough look. "Did you build it to be an all-rounder, or did you have a general purpose in mind when making it?"
Maybe she was wrong, but it definitely looked like a general-purpose vehicle. But who knew. "Take it can do a lot of interesting stuff. Seems pretty nice."
