"KIAI!" A fist flew, catching only loose cloth in shame. A young teen with white hair hung his head low as two palms were forced into his chest, dropping him to his back like a raging current. His elder let out his own fierce battle cry before jutting a palm downward as if to strike once more; though restrained, unwilling to strike its pupil's face.
"You have much to learn yet, Iachi." The old man chuckled and helped the boy to his feet, patting off the back of his gi lovingly, "Your strikes are not slow, but your course is off. I sense a lack of faith in your direction, are you feeling fine?"
"I am well, sorry, grandfather." Iachi sighed and drank from his bottled water gingerly. Too much cold water at once could bring on much worse than a hurt pride, especially as warm as it was today.
The elderly master placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, "Take a walk. It will ease the mind."
Iachi had lost track of himself.
The forests had drawn him in, the vivid summer greens seemed to beckon him within. His mind was clear, just as his grandfather had promised, but so much so that all his troubles and concerns had melted away into newfound curiosities. It was getting late into the evening, but thoughts of the local legends regarding this place never bothered to come to mind. He was at peace.
The ringing of his cellphone, however, broke him free of the stupor. He grabbed at his waist in a panic before he pulled the device close to his face and peered at the time. He had answered the call in his fumbling around, but the voice of his mother that came through the small speaker was a garbled mess, the screen full of static.
"H-hello? Mom? Can you hear me?" He smacked the phone against his knee several times in agitation, but to no avail. Either he had gotten it wet somehow, or the signal was just that bad out there; he couldn't be sure of either. He began to sigh in disappointment and turn home, but, just as he was about to pocket his cellphone, a massive gust of wind knocked him back in an extremely similar fashion to what had occurred back at the dojo.
"Can... you... hear... me...?" The cellphone that he still clutched as he lost consciousness began to vibrate. Its screen flickered and its speakers crackled, and soon it began to glow with an amazing light. As it cleared, its appearance had changed into that a much stranger device... One not of this world.
Iachi opened his eyes slowly, the forest canopy above him cut through by the sun's rays. He stood up and stretched before he looked around. Something seemed off about this place...
It seemed to be midday now, but last he recalled it had been approaching the night hours. As he came across an unfamiliar stream, an unfamiliar face stared back at the boy. It smiled at him oddly before its reptilian mouth became agape in shock. He jumped back. The face in the water disappeared from view. What had...
What had he become?
"What's... going on?" He looked off into the distance and swallowed dryly. Something told him to head east... after a drink.
