The setting of the park was one of peaceful serenity, only a light breeze through the sakura trees, rustling the pink flowers gently whilst a group of birds chirped cheerfully to each other. Despite the afternoon sun hanging in the sky, the park was unusually quiet, as kids would usually run about, yet almost none can be found here today. The park was truly the symbol of peace and quiet on such a fine day.
Yet Ry didn't feel peaceful at all, and he sighed. He had only just finished his shift and had nowhere to go, his place was bare and empty, all of his friends were still at work, and it isn't like he could go back home to his dad's either. He was absolutely, determinedly, bored.
But it wasn't just that, he also felt turmoil further within that surface layer of boredom. He could feel himself floating, going nowhere in life and not a single step closer towards reaching his goal. How could he become powerful enough to topple his father's empire if he was only a simple deliveryman? He sighed once more as he plopped down on one of the park's bench, tilting his head back and closing his eyes with the intention of taking a nap.

Sometimes, it was nice to get away from all the fire-breathing dragons, electrified rabbits and rabid dogs that want to rip you to shreds. Some days, all a guy really needs is a beautiful summer day at the park. And that was exactly what Adrian had decided to do that day. And surprisingly, it was pretty quiet today!
"Hmmm... alright, Shoutmon, it seems like there's barely anyone here," Adrian says as he took out his Digivice. "You wanna come out?"
"Yeah, why not?" Shoutmon happily says, always jumping at a chance to be free from his V-Pet prison. After that, Adrian held up his D-Arc and allowed Shoutmon to come out, realizing right in front of the human.
Upon entry into the real world, Shoutmon took a deep breath. "Ah, this summer weather feels great, doesn't it?"
"Yeah, it's not too hot and not too cold. What do you wanna-" Adrian immediately paused when he noticed a deliveryman sitting on a nearby bench. "Shoutmon, Code H!" Knowing what Code H meant, Shoutmon immediately dove right into the nearby bush to hide.

Just as soon as Ry was about to drift off into a peaceful nap, he began to hear footsteps coming his way. Grumbling out of annoyance, he turned his head to see a man talking to no one in particular, talking to thin air, Ry supposed. Eh, he's seen weirder things, he thought to himself, just as he was about to head back into his nap.
But then he stopped and jolted upright on his seat, when he saw a red monster come out from what seemed like a gaming device. "Wha-" he stuttered, at a lost for words.
The man who had arrived at the park, however, spoke to the monster as if they were friends, or perhaps partners. As if monsters were very much a common occurrence here.
But perhaps he thought that too soon, as the monster jumped straight into a bush when they noticed Ry. It was too late for hiding though, "What... What is that?" he gasped, pointing at the bush that the monster had hidden himself in.

Oh shit, he had to have seen that... Adrian thought as he stared at this deliveryman, who had just seen the events unfold. Shoutmon tried his best to hide in that bush, but he was pretty sure that it was too late at this point.
"Uh... hey," Adrian says, immediately attempting to pretend that absolutely nothing had just happened. "Do you happen to know where the... er... lake is?"
Jesmon, he sucks at lying, Shoutmon thought as he rolled his eyes. I'm not gonna come out though, just in case this guy really is fooled by his dumb lie... heh, like that'll happen.
The delivery guy then asked what "that" was, with "that" referring to Shoutmon. Of course, Adrian attempted to play dumb. "That? What do you mean?"

Ry rolled his eyes, of course, this guy was going to try to hide the fact that he saw a red monster jump out of a game device, that was a nearly a hundred times smaller than the monster itself. Let's not forget that this is an actual monster that we're talking about too, a real-life monster, not at all an animal that has ever been found in this world ever before.
"I mean the thing that popped out of your device that then jumped into the bush to hide itself, and it was a very bad attempt at hiding, by the way," Ry sighed, patting his lap and then standing straight up.
"You know what, this will never go anywhere, you'll never admit to anything," he continued on, and then walked straight towards the bush that he saw the red monster go into. Ry would then reach out and poke through the bushes to see what was behind it, if the red monster was still hiding there anyways.

Adrian eventually sighed and gave in. Yeah, he was a horrible liar, and this guy DID see the whole thing unfold in front of him. Hiding it would be pointless at this moment.
"Shoutmon, it's no use, he already saw the whole thing," Adrian says, calling out for Shoutmon. The red dragon would then come right out of the bushes, so Ry can now clearly see what he was: a red, metallic-looking dragon with green headphones, looking like he was held together by nuts and bolts.
"We really need to be more careful about where you realize me," Shoutmon says. "This could've easily been avoided!"
"I know, I know, I'm a big fricking idiot," Adrian groaned. He would then look over at Ry. "My name is Adrian, and this is Shoutmon... Shoutmon is a creature known as... a Digimon."

Ry narrowed his eyes, the guy apparently called Adrian didn't explain to him one bit of anything. He was so and utterly confused. Whilst he knows what they were called now, he didn't know anything about this...
Digimon.
He took a closer look at the both of them though, especially the red monster who was called Shoutmon, as Adrian clarified. What stunned him even more though, aside from what looked like headphones (which were definitely something he was familiar with) and a weird microphone, was that the monster could speak.
And he could speak Japanese.
It wasn't like the monster movies that he watched, where monsters could only growl and say their own name, this monster could understand humans perfectly well and speak to them too.
"So, I didn't think I'd have to ask this but," he glanced at the Shoutmon once more before putting his attention back at Adrian, "What is a digimon?"

Ry asked what a Digimon exactly was... would he even believe Adrian if he told him the truth? Either way, he had to tell him...
"Digimon is short for Digital Monster..." Adrian continued with his explanation. "Which means, Shoutmon here is essentially made up of ones and zeroes. Yet they have lives, personalities, feelings..."
"So basically, don't cross us or you'll regret it forever," Shoutmon joked, which caused Adrian to give him a look.
"Just ignore him... so what do we do now?"

Ry glanced from the boy to the red monster, which is apparently called a digimon and has the name of Shoutmon. I mean, there's nothing else that Ry can do except believe him, since the evidence was right there.
Though at least the boy was being courteous while the red monster was, well, being a little rowdy. But what else can Ry expect from something that has 'monster' in their name, right?
"Well... first off, can you answer a few of my questions, then?" he asked, looking back at the boy, "Where do they come from, and why are you with one of them?"
He glanced at the Shoutmon, "I mean no offense, of course."

"None taken," Shoutmon says with a big grin to Ry as he places his hands behind his head.
"Digimon come from a place known as the Digital World," Adrian began explaining to this deliveryman, now realizing how stupid and out there it really sounded. "It's a parallel world similar to ours, only the big difference is that everything is made up of data."
"Humans say that the Digital World was made a reality sometime around the time the Internet was made."
"Yeah, and sometimes, humans like me become one of three things: a Tamer, a Spirit User, or a Xros General. A Tamer and Xros General are similiar in the sense that they both have a Digimon partner-"
"Like me!" Shoutmon interrupted.
"Yes, please don't interrupt... a Xros General, however, commands an army of Digimon which they fuse together to create new forms."
Adrian would go on, explaining Tamers and Spirit users. Hopefully, this wasn't too much for Ry.

There were so many things going around Ry's head, so many questions that he had to ask but also didn't know how to ask. But he knew that, at the very least, they held a grain of truth because the proof of that was right in front of him.
So... the Digital World is in the Internet, is what I'm getting at here?" he asked, "And it's a whole world, just as big as the world we are in right now? The... human world, then, it would be called? Or do we call it Earth? Or..."
He trailed off, sighing, there was too many things that he wanted to ask and just not enough time. He breathed in, just get the basics in for now, as long as he understood what was going on, it should be enough.
"Okay, so there are all these classes of people, I understand that, but," he glanced at the two of them, "What are you two, and how do I know which one's which?"
