Shimmering Seas, Shimmering Secrets [Mission] [4/4]

The sun brightly shined high above the shimmering waters of Elysium's surface. A makeshift camp was constructed on one of the buildings still afloat near the area today's expedition was going to take place. While she waited for those who accepted her request to arrive, Aylin the Lunamon sat at the edge of the building with a fishing pole to pass the time. She could hardly contain her excitement. So many were exploring the larger ruins for secrets of old Elysium, but she knew that some of the most interesting secrets were tucked away in the corners of civilization, so this small ruin was perfect to find undiscovered treasure and writings.
Her attention returned to fishing as something seemed to be hooked, though there wasn't any resistance on the line. What could it be? She reeled in the line and found a battered old compass "Ooh, what could this be? With how it's damaged it must be an old Elysium design..." she kicked her feet with joy "I can't wait to study it! But there's so much more to look forward to today." she stood up and dried the old piece of equipment before storing it somewhere. Deep down though she was worried. This place was uncharted so no one knew if there'd be traps or a Digimon who made their home down there. She didn't want the people who arrived to get in too much danger after announcing this as a low level request.
As she waited, she organized things in the comically oversized bag she would bring with her with all sorts of tools and equipment to carry things back in or catalog writings. With it she wouldn't be able to directly assist in battle, but she was confident that whoever would arrive would be tough enough to deal with whatever came around. If anything stronger than a Champion was nearby she's sure she would have gotten word of it sooner.

Well, why don't you try one for yourself?
Dr. Mikemon's words were burned into Syre's ears at this point. Until now, she had been sitting at the sidelines, seeing members of the club head out on their own missions and exploration tasks - often leading Syre behind in the Library. True, she was just a rookie, but the cat was curious! She wanted to see what was beyond the walls of the tower - and upon receiving those words, she checked the mission listings over and over until she found something in her range.
An underwater expedition - this could prove interesting! And with a large enough group as she was going with, she wouldn't be left on her own if anything went wrong - it seemed like the perfect way to get her feet wet. So, she cat got her gear ready, and via a portal, made her way out to the top of that metropolis...
... Oh dear, was she the first one there? Seeing just the Lunamon peer over the gear - Syre simply having a diving set dangling from her shoulder - the cat gave a nervous chuckle. Stepping forward, she would give a wave: "Heya! Syre here - are you Aylin?"
Short and to the point! Giving a few steps up, she'd look at that bag that the Lunamon was trying to sort through. "Um, you need help, there?"

"Huh. You know, I have been meaning to go here but, never had the reason to. Need any help, also?" A voice called from behind her. If she turned, he was shown being carried by a Renamon as he stood him up.He saw the BlackGatomon and squinted for a quick second before turning his head to Blake when his tamer said " I was going to do the same thing except I wanted to plan a gathering party. I'm assuming it's not going to be the case?" He spoke.
"Of course it's not going to be a gathering party."Renamon said to him "This is a mission to be taken seriously. On our journey we will be attacked by all manner of creature. Close your heart to their desperation. Close your heart to their suffering. Do not allow yourself to feel for them. They will not feel for you." Renamon said boldy, looking at his Tamer.
"Seriously? I think you've watched me play Video Games too much." Blake rolled his eyes. "We can't just attack every rogue digimon that we see. Not to mention that is sort of a terrible quote to stand by."
Renamon was about to put his finger up to give him a lecture until, The two then stopped talking, realizing that the others were sort of hearing what they were saying.

-This is beautiful -Katherine looked like an amazed child at the water that the motorboat crossed at full speed, as they traveled on the vehicle. Their adventure had brought the duo, Katherine Jasso, and Jazz the Lopmon to the surface of Elysium, a sunken city of the digital world. They had seen a poster at Whitewater, where a digimon called Aylin stated that she needed a team to explore some ruins at the surface of Elysium and, after having a very short debate about it, they decided to jump into action. Even though, after finally reuniting three Zoid Gems, this expedition probably wouldn't get them close to the next one, it was still another marvelous opportunity to keep discovering places of this mythical world, opportunities that the brunette usually didn't let pass.
-I think that's the place! Jazz pointed at what seemed to be some sort of camp on the top of one of the buildings. The digimon who drove the boat, who Jazz identified as a Kamemon, stopped next to the surface, where the girl and the bunny could hop to land on it. They had paid the digimon at the stand, before getting into the motorboat, so he just waved goodbye at them and left on his vehicle.
Just as they stood foot on the roof, they noticed a group of digimon and a human. As they approached the little group walking slowly, Katherine began detailing the individuals. About the digimon, there was one who looked exactly like a black cat, only wearing gloves, a sort of yellow biped fox and a small, cute bunny-like creature. The human was a boy, he was about Katherine's height and had a brown colored skin. His facial features definitely told the girl that he wasn't Japanese.
-Hi there. -Katherine greeted the group upon arriving. -Is any of you Aylin? I've come for the exploring mission. -The girl added, looking at her surroundings. -My name is Katherine, and this is my digimon partner, Lopmon. -She introduced herself and her partner. -Pleased to meet you. -Heya. -Jazz quickly waved at the group. Katherine continued to look around, truly amazed by the place they were at this time.

With all the madness in the digital world, it was nice to finally find something at Chaze's speed, at it's base level, this whole endeavor was work, pure and simple. The bulky human man glanced around the beach, it's sights not as impressive to him as it was to others, as right now he was entirely focused on locating his client, freelancing work was unfamiliar to him, but as long as he could locate the client, said to be a Lunamon, he should be able to fulfill the job relatively easily. He stared around, feeling very awkward to be the only human on the beach, but a voice behind him spoke up, "Hey, there's a human over there." The voice said, matching the exact sound of the human's voice.
Sinokira turned his reflective lenses towards the direction indicated by his spirit partner, spotting a small gathering of digimon, and a human. He stared at the one fishing digimon, and aimed his D-Tector at her, with a mild flush of satisfaction, his mysterious device identified the Lunamon, and decided it safe to engage with them. The construction worker approached the group, silently, "... This is the exploration job, right?" He asked, his face showing no signs of expression, even his eyes hidden by a pair of eye lenses that reflected the outside world.
Escamon, the spirit stuck to his side examined the group, "Interesting, I didn't think a job like this would require so many people." He remarked, in the exact same monotone as his human counterpart. Meanwhile, Chaze stared down at Lopmon, with his taciturn expression as always, but a thought did cross his mind, as he stared at the assortment of Lunamon, Lopmon, and Blackgatomon. "Cute..." was that single thought, but he quickly recomposed himself, ready for any orders the Lunamon, seemingly named Aylin, would give out.

"Oh wow, you all arrived so quickly!" Aylin said, delighted to finally meet everyone here. She laughed a little bit at Syre's worry "Haha, I'm okay, I'm used to carrying this thing." he hefted it up with surprising strength as she finished organizing her supplies. "I'm a lot tougher than I look, don't worry." she reassured the BlackGatomon.
To answer both Syre and Katherine's question, she raised her hand happily "Yup, I'm Aylin! Nice to meet you all. So I know this may seem like a lot of people to bring along on a little expedition, but it's better safe than sorry in places like this. Who knows what will show up and try to pick a fight..." she really hoped it wouldn't have to come to that, but rogue digimon make the strangest places their homes, or try to steal valuable relics for seedy markets.
She looked visibly upset by how cold the Renamon in the group was but tried to retain her optimistic attitude "I had a friend a long long time ago who thought it was a terrible idea to view others with skepticism or even hostility. He believed that unless you're on a battlefield, you have a chance of reaching out to someone and understanding where they come from and why they do what it is they do. Understanding is the greatest weapon at our disposal. At least, that's what he would always say. And he made a lot of friends that way and really helped change so many digimon lives for the better." she smiled fondly. "Though he knew that it was also important to know when to defend yourself, and always got sad when he had to." she said.
She shook her head "S-sorry, I ramble a lot when I remember them. Anyway, so let me tell you what we have to do. Down there..." she pointed at the entrance "Is one of the smaller ruins around Elysium. Not a lot of resources has been put into exploring this place, but I think there might be something special to discover if we look hard enough. I did a little scouting ahead earlier, but I came across a dead end pretty early on...but I think there's a secret passage somewhere." she said.
She looked up at Chaze "Oh, are you a spirit user? One of my really good friends is one too, you should meet him one of these days. And yeah, as I said this is the expedition job. I hope it goes well, though with all of you I'm sure we'll make it through." she said happily.
She adjusted the bag and waddled over to the stairs, carefully stepping down each one towards the entrance "If you're all ready and don't have any questions, let's get to work!" she said, pausing at the entrance.

Well, it wouldn't just be Syre and Aylin for very long: just a few moments later, the group was joined by a Renamon and a younger human tamer, who from the very start had an 'interesting' tone about them. Though both realized that they were being a touch awkward, it was a bit too late - all Syre had to add to them was a nervous chuckle, and a quick look away back towards the others.
Like this Lopmon, with a much nicer sounding partner! "Hey, yourself!" Returning a smirk and a smile to the two, her ear flicked at the sound of a third party - a human, who seemed to be taking all of this a bit too seriously. Well, whatever, they would hopefully work together well enough!
Giving a nod and a smile as Aylin proceeded to handle the bag herself, the BlackGatomon instead stepped back to give her some room, and... hoo boy, did she have a mouthful to say about the Renamon. Not wanting to get tangled up in that, the cat simply let herself remain in the background, checking her diving gear as that lecture took its course. Eventually, the Lunamon would get to the point: a ruin exploration, their first objective being to find a secret passage. And it seemed like the Lunamon would be joining them!
"Heh, sounds fun!" And hopefully it would be! For now, the cat would follow along, with the rest of the group - simply giving a nod as Aylin asked for questions, affirming that she was ready to get this started!

When a very tall guy with short hair and a slightly dark skin tone arrived, Katherine couldn't help but stare for a bit. This one was huge and seemed to be a bit older than her and the other teenager present at the site. He had a serious, cold expression, but didn't seem like a bad guy, just very reserved. The girl began looking around for his digimon partner. Could it be the black cat? no, not at all, they didn't even seem to know each other, upon coming to a certain theory that seemed the most likely possibility, the girl gasped. -Could it be...? She immediately covered her mouth. realizing that she might have said that instead of just thinking it. Was this one of those humans that could become a digimon? just like Amelie?
Katherine smiled to Aylin as she made her introduction, trying to control the urge to hug her brains out since she found her insanely adorable. Also, in the department of things she couldn't help to do, was staring at the cute creature as she spoke about this friend of hers, her eyes were shining in the same way Alraumon's eyes shined when she talked about Floramon, or Liquid the Candlemon's eyes shined when he talked about Nanimon. Katherine loved to see how digimon could feel so much love and admiration for other beings and it only made her happier to be sharing this incredible world with such marvelous creatures. The girl quickly snapped out of her train of thoughts as Aylin began explaining the first task to complete on this mission, which seemed to be finding a secret passage in order to be able to explore the ruins further.
While they started walking down the stairs, Jazz hoped on Katherine's head to save herself the walking, as usual. This was something the teenager couldn't say she particularly enjoyed, but she was fine with it for a while, not for long though, since the bunny was a little heavy. The bunny started to whisper on Katherine's ear. -The enthusiastic gloved digimon is a Blackgatomon, I think I've only seen one in my whole life, they are very uncommon. -Since introductions didn't seem to be on the order of the day, a short explanation on what kind of digimon they were dealing with was very much welcomed by the girl. -That guy's partner is a Renamon, they usually are very serious, quiet and cold digimon. -And this one didn't seem to be any different.
Before entering themselves onto the ruins, Jazz hoped down Katherine's head.-Yo, Aylin... -The bunny addressed the Lunamon. -Do you have any lead on where that secret passage could be or any way of opening it? -Looking for a secret passage without a previous lead sounded like a very difficult task on an ancient ruin. Were they going to walk around just touching walls to see if one moved? -What are we exactly looking for?

Blake followed with Katherine, wanting to not go alone. Even though he doesn't know how to make conversation, at least there's someone to watch his back. Renamon stared at the lopmon before looking away. "Touching walls would probably be the least of things we should pay attention to." He said to Lopmon. "Besides, that would've been too convenient."
"They probably want us to think like that." Blake answered his digimon. Renamon looked at him and then decided to rebuttal.
"The reason why they're not going to be walls that are going to take us anywhere is because it can obviously lead to a trap. Or possibly an endless maze. Or anything that these ruins have." He said.
"Except we haven't touched anything yet." Blake spoke.
Renamon facepalmed. "That's what I'm worried about." He didn't care about Blake's opinion anymore as it will probably get him, his tamer, and everyone else on the mission killed most likely.

It took Chaze a moment to understand they meant him when they asked about spirit users, and he simply nodded, with a simple "Yeah, okay." in response. He wasn't all that great with words, as he had spent the past years of his life taking orders from bosses, with no real room for conversation, not that he was ever good at it, to begin with. However, the idea of searching some abandoned buildings appealed to him, somehow, perhaps he could learn a thing or two about construction, but who knows what kind of differences existed between the real world and this digital one.
The group arrived at the ruins, and after a moment, Chaze assumed the job was on, and approached, alongside the cute brown rabbit thing. "huh..." He remarked, staring at the doorway, he found it safe to assume it would be an example of the rest of the ruins. His experience as a construction worker, more importantly, his destruction experience afforded him an eye for structures and their points of stronger support, and from first impressions, this structure was quite practical. "Makes sense that this thing is still here, after all this time." He said, aloud, seemingly lost in his own thoughts, as soon as they approached the ruins. Escamon couldn't really see what Sinokira meant, but the idea that a building, even near the uneven ground next to the sea could survive for so long filled him with a sense of indescribable satisfaction.
Chaze caught himself, before he strayed inside of the ruins, and glanced back, rubbing the back of his neck, shyly, "Um... sorry, please lead the way." He asked, looking away, nervously. It was clear he didn't want to attract attention to himself, as now he seemed thoroughly uncomfortable, as he had accidentally passed the group, and they might think he wanted to lead them, which was rude on so many levels he lost count.

"Okay, let's get going!" Aylin cheered happily as she lead everyone down into the ruins proper. Ancient markings and depictions of history dot the walls "I've been cataloging this stuff as much as I can, since it's the only place I felt comfortable exploring by myself. Just wait until you see the last chamber I was in, it was incredible!" she said.
She was happy that Syre seemed excited to explore the ruins and figure out its mysteries if there were any to be discovered. It seemed that everyone here was on board with the plan, too. Except for the Renamon, who made some valid points but also seemed far too cautious for their own good. "I really appreciate that you're so cautious, Renamon, but we'll make it through this okay? Can't treasure hunt and search for archaeological wonders without a few risks...can't really do anything without a few risks."
Chaze was quiet, but seemed friendly, and that was enough for Aylin. The way was well lit thankfully so they were able to see where they were going. After turning past a few corridors, they come across an absolute spectacle of a room. The walls of the room were transparent, revealing the shallows of the water outside. The sun's rays shined through the water's surface, creating a marvelous visual spectacle for the room inside "Isn't this incredible?! From the outside it looked like it was built of the stone everything else is, but from in here, it somehow has this transparent effect!" she lead them further into the room, where there was an inscription along with four statues small enough to be carried. "Alright, here's why I wanted to get some more people involved! You see those statues and that inscription? It's a puzzle. Doesn't seem too complicated, but take a look at the statues."
The statues were of Dolphmon, Plesiomon, Seadramon, and Whamon. "According to this inscription, it wants the various statues to be on certain points over there." she points to a large, wide open area in the room with square panels, like a grid. The center of the grid is marked with a four pointed star, pointing in the cardinal directions. "The inscription says..." she began to list the various steps.
"The graceful swimmers, jumping out the water's crystalline surface for air, live 5 paces north and 8 paces east..."
"The majestic serpent swiftly navigates the seas 2 paces south, 4 paces west, and a further 7 paces south."
"The gentle myth hides away 9 paces west, 7 paces north, and 1 pace east."
"The giant makes the territory 6 paces east, 4 paces south, and another 3 paces east."
Aylin lets out a deep breath "Whoo, okay. You got all that? I think these statues have to be moved to where they're supposed to be on that big grid. Maybe if we do it right the way forward will open up. Since there's four statues...Syre, you pick one, Renamon and your partner you pick one, quiet person, you pick one, then Katherine and Jazz, you pick one. See if you can all figure out what Digimon the inscription is talking about and place them where they should be on the grid. Oh and I think the paces start from the center of the grid, where that star is."

Syre could agree on one thing - this central room was quite the sight! Despite the Renamon's caution, the BlackGatomon couldn't help but admire the feel and look of the room, even feeling the sun roll right in, plain as day. Was it some kind of ancient glass, or was the appearance just magic? "Just even checking out this room would be enough to get a good report - hm?" Ooh, a puzzle?
The BlackGatomon looked towards the inscription, then the statues. As far as Syre could tell, this was nothing more than a place-the-pegs game - at least, until she heard the instructions in full. 'Graceful Swimmers' made sense, but the Serpents, Myth, and Giant all had one thing alike with them:
"Strange - aren't a few of those directions contradictory? And yet opposite directions never directly follow each-other. Well, if that's the case..."
Then Syre just had to take it literally, right? "Since the statues don't start off in the grid, then the starting point is probably..." The cat plucked up the statue of the Seadramon, and set it right down on the middle of the 'compass' in the center. Pointing away from the decorated 'north', she recanted the part in her head: two south, four west, seven south.
"The riddle itself is simplistic," the cat mentioned, "but I don't think its as simple as finding the starting point." At that, the cat followed the directions quite literally: pushing the serpent two 'blocks' down, fully turning it to then move it four west, then turning it again to move it seven south. Every time she made a turn, she made certain that the statue was fully contained in those lines.
She figured that it wouldn't be as simple as simply placing it on its end square - if that was the case, the grid would have been far more scuffed up with diagonals!

The insides of the ruins made it seem even bigger than it looked like from the outside. There were ancient markings and signs drawn on the walls, which neither Katherine or Jazz could understand at all. Upon arriving the room they were looking for, Jazz could only stare blatantly at the water through the walls. "So pretty..." she mumbled, placing her index finger over her lower lip. The sun went through the water, creating a relaxing effect that was truly marvelous.
-It is, it's beautiful... -The duo walked through the room, listening to Aylin. The reason the group was so big became quite obvious quite fast. There were some gigantic statues that needed to be moved, guided by some sort of ancient puzzle. Maybe Aylin could move them by herself but it would take to much and plus she probably also considered the 'five heads think better than one' part. There were digimon statues, but Katherine could only recognize Dolphmon since she saw a group of them at the big race around the Binary Archipelago. As always, Katherine turned to Jazz for help, when it came to digimon she didn't know, the bunny was the one in charge. Before saying anything, the duo listened to Aylin read the inscription that was engraved on stone. After she finished, the duo split from the group, they had to pick a statue and put it into the right spot, based on what the inscription said. Even though it was easy for Katherine to know the first text meant Dolphmon, a digimon she already knew, she preferred to walk towards the sea-serpent digimon's statue first, which had a certain resemblance to a digimon she had already known on their trip. Even though it seemed like Syre, the Blackgatomon had already picked that one.
-This one looks like the old MegaSeadramon, Nanimon's friend. -The brunette said, looking at the statue. -This is Seadramon, they're from the same family. -The bunny explained as she looked around at the other statues. -The big one is Whamon. There's Dolphmon, and that other one, I don't really know who it is. -So it would be safe to assume Dolphmon is that 'graceful swimmer' that's mentioned in those inscriptions, right? -The girl asked, preferring to move the statue of the digimon she already knew. -Probably, yes. -Jazz kept looking at the big grid where the statues were supposed to go.
-Okay! Then let's go! -The girl walked towards the dolphin's statue and began to push it to the center of the grid. It wasn't as heavy as she expected, but still heavy enough for her to pant on every push. Meanwhile, Jazz repeated the instructions to the girl, telling her where to place it. -That's five paces north... Now push it east, yes, to your right -Jazz pointed with her hands, walking next to Katherine as she pushed the statue. -Perfect, now do it for seven more paces. -Katherine kept pushing as hard as she could, as the work turned more difficult every push. A little before reaching the goal, the girl sat on the ground to rest. -I need... water... wait... -The girl opened her backpack and started drinking from her thermos. -Kath, stand over there. -The bunny pointed on a direction, and Katherine obeyed. -Okay, now get ready...
P e t i t T w i s t e r!!!
By spinning her ears, the bunny lifted on the air, creating a small blast of wind that moved the statue swiftly towards Katherine, slowly enough for her to catch it and stop it on spot.
-There you go, I moved it the paces that were left.-Jazz placed both hands on her waist and closed her eyes, very proudly, only to be smacked on the head by Katherine just a second after. -Why didn't you do that from the beginning!? - Well, their statue seemed to be in the right spot.

"Can't argue with that. Taking risks is what I can handle. It's just that this place is a bit unsettling." He answered her. After being told what to do, he decided to gesture his hand towards the Whamon to use his other hand to beckon."So, giant makes the territory 6 paces east, 4 paces south, and another 3 paces east." He recalled.
That was a bit too complicated for Blake as he awkwardly moved infront of the statue that looks like a Whamon. Renamon tilted his head in confusion. "What are you doing?" He asked his tamer, straight forward. He really wasn't liking this. If he made one wrong move then it could change everything. Or he didn't hear that very well on where to move the statue.
"Well, I'm not a pirate treasure map maker" He paused for a second."guy. I don't know what paces are or are they just one step..?" He puts his hand on his chin to think about that.
"Seriously? It's a grid so, it's obviously squares. Besides, you should know something similar about this at your school, right?" Renamon asked him curiously.
" Yeah, I'm still home-schooled until, my application goes through so I can attend it. Okay, that is off-topic. Lets just get down to Bidness." Blake answered.
Renamon sighed to step back several times as he then recall again what was stated. To make it easier for Blake he said "Okay, move six squares east." He said to him, not saying paces as he replaced with it with "Square". Blake was then murmuring something. He doesn't know what he's saying. Something about waffles. Whatever he was murmuring about, he moved it to where his digimon wanted him to move. "Four squares to the south." Renamon requested. Blake did what he said as no mistake was caused. He now murmuring about something soggy. Ignoring that, he then breathed a sigh of relief and said "Move three squares to the east side."
"Whoops." Blake said without exclaiming as he made it as if he was pushing it to the west side. He then quickly switched his hands over to the east side and moved it three paces. Renamon wasn't amused at all.
"I'm laughing right now." Renamon thought sarcastically. He then breathed another sigh of relief as Blake walked back to him. "What were you saying back there, may I ask? Something about waffles." He asked.
"Oh. Blake shrugged. Never eat soggy waffles. My teacher taught me that. You see, I don't know which exact order they're in so he told me that. Which is how we're not dead right now. Never is North, Eat is East, Soggy is south, and-" "I think I'm educated now, thank you." He interrupted his tamer, putting two hands in front of him.

Once more, it took Chaze a moment to process that he was the "quiet one", but the orders from his client snapped him away from analyzing the structure and framework of the ruins, bringing his attention to the room. From the looks of things, the others had picked statues already, so he turned his attention to the final statue, which looked like some depictions he had seen of mythical beasts such as the Loch Ness monster. He crouched down, gripping it by the bottom and hefting it over his shoulder, staggering momentarily, as he wrapped his arm around the side of the statue, getting to grips with the size of the statue. Working in construction had also gave him an almost instinctive sense on carrying heavy objects, especially by balancing the size of said object.
He strolled towards the center, recalling the directions giving and moving with what was clearly trained experience in carrying one thing somewhere else. He glanced down at the arrows, gathering which direction was west, before deciding what the simplest course of action could be, and he simply strolled 8 squares west, before moving 7 paces north, combining the paces west and east. It was simple math, something he could do as a child, and he crouched down and plopped the statue down in one smooth motion, before turning to stare expectantly towards Aylin, once more, waiting for new orders. Meanwhile, Escamon simply watched, having nothing really to say, realizing his human counterpart wished to focus on the job at hand, and staying silent to respect that silent wish.
