A bright sunny day in Shibuya welcomed the Greek girl as the plane touched down into the airport. Calliope was always interested in visiting a country like Japan, however her visit was not for leisure: she had a mission to find her brother. After collecting her things she made her way out front of the airport in order to seek out transport to her where her brother was supposed to be working temporarily while studying the strange phenomenon’s that had been occurring; at the building she was going to meet with one of her brother’s colleagues who could take her to his last known location. Acquiring transport wasn’t to difficult for her but she had a feeling that finding her brother was not going to be a simple task one way or another. The city scape moved by leaving the girl a bit dazed and quiet for the duration of the car ride.
Eventually she reached her brothers work place and was greeted by a foreign scientist who revealed a few details on their studies and findings. Their findings included the odd energy fluxes that had caught their attention in the first place, they were isolated in specific places and her brother had vanished while exploring one of the sites. Calliope remained curious how a person could simply disappear in thin air and if the thing her brother was searching for was the cause of his disappearance. The scientist told her that they were going to be walking a distance to the site and they wouldn’t get their until it was night.
They began their walk through the city, Calliope took in the sites with enjoyment despite the situation; the only city she’s been in was her home city of Athens a place very different than Shibuya from the buildings people and other aspects it made her feel further away from home than she actually was. Watching the people walk by she felt that she stood out like a sore thumb from the way she dressed and the way she reacted to the city but at least she had a guide who was somewhat familiar with the city after the few months he’s been there. Along the way of their travels the Scientist told Calliope about all the sites to see around the city that her brother and he had explored before he vanished, when she asked where he was during her brother’s disappearance he replied that he was compiling data at their lab and her brother had expressed an interest in going to the site alone.
Night had befallen the city just as the scientist had said when they finally reached the location: the Shibuya river. “a river?” Calliope thought to herself. A river to her was a clean body of water that flowed through a more natural area, this place seemed to just be a trash mound with water and surrounded by buildings on both sides. This particular area however was more abandoned buildings and the vegetation had become over grown. “this is where he disappeared?” she quietly asked giving a nod of affirmation the scientist said that they would have to look further up and down the river to truly determine where it happened. It was pretty dark and Calliope wasn’t to aware of this area but decided splitting up would be the best option anyway. They went separate ways and Calliope walked closely to the ledge of the river scanning up and down for any signs of her brother.
It felt like hours had passed in the night with the light from the nearby street lamps slowly dimming from the impending morning sunrise. Calliope was just about to turn and call it a night when something caught her attention on the ledge: a pair of glasses and a strange device. Upon picking up the glasses she noted one of the lenses were cracked but they were very familiar. She pocketed them and picked up the device it was tan and grey blue, and there was little indication for what it did. Calliope curiously pressed a button and the screen suddenly flashed blinding the girl and sent her staggering back. Her heel slipped of the ledge sending her falling backwards towards the river she waited to feel her back hit the trash down below but to her surprise it didn’t come. Look forward she saw the river and the world around her seemingly disappear.
What on earth has she gotten herself into.
