Going back and forth between worlds was becoming a regular thing for Rise. It wasn't so hard to maintain a social life with this other one going on, people just didn't try hard enough. Though, she was slowly losing friends, having no interest in their trivial pursuits anymore. She had something greater - this secret allowed her to enact her most primal fantasies.
After spending the day at the mall with a few friends, the pinkette went down to the train station around midnight. She wore nothing too flashy beyond her hair and signature horned headband, simply donning a black sports jacket (freshly bought) and a pair of jeans. It wasn't good to have a high profile at night.
Perhaps it was paranoia, or the ancient ghost in her head, but something was definitely following her as she made her way into the subway. She kept stopping, looking around for the source of distant footsteps, but nobody ever came into sight. She kept moving, faster, and faster yet.
The subway was eerie, more than it usually was. Normally, at least a few late night workers and homeless men could be found waiting for a train. But tonight, there was nobody. Something was really wrong down here.
Nevertheless, she wouldn't be in this world for long, and slowly approached a steel bench, taking a seat by herself. To pass the time, she began humming a child-like tune, filling the silence and calming her nerves.
The train should be here any minute now...

It had been about a day and a half since Mao had returned from her first...unwilling foray into a completely differing world than this one. It was rather unpleasant, really, she got in a scuffle, she got turned into some purple alien thing that kept saying incomprehensible things in her head, and to top it all off, she ruined her jacket. To put it simply? Shit's annoying, man.
But yet she felt like going back, which should very clearly not be the case. No, she should just be languishing at Yui's place, except this droning voice in her head kept asking "When will you go back? Go back. Do it." Just...That. For hours.
Once again.
Shit's annoying, man.
So she threw on her jacket, a tank top, some shorts and went to the subway station at the dead of night. She got back here via a weird train. So it was probably via that same train she'd go back there. There was another person that looked like she was waiting for the same train as her, so Mao opted to wander over towards said bench, with a simple greeting. "Yo."

Christ, had it been a long day for poor Maddie. An extreme amount of last minute revisions were made by the publisher for multiple different pages of the new story her was putting out, along with several time-consuming calls from her new landlord trying to square away the financial details of her move in, resulting in her having to stay at the office until 11:30 pm. Now if that wasn't enough, when she finally got off work she got another call from the manager of her studio gallery, promising a mysterious surprise.
Maddie was already stressed out and stretched thin, so she mostly just wanted to go home and go to sleep. She didn't know if she had it in her to travel to the distance of another ward to the gallery building and back again to her apartment, or even if she had enough energy to appreciate whatever her manager had planned to show her. However, after some amount of consideration, she decided that this new development might actually make this day worthwhile, and so she summoned up enough willpower to get her body moving towards the nearest subway station. She trudged along through the city streets, doing her best to keep herself motivated enough to keep going, until she reached her destination.
When she finally arrived, she noted how odd the station was. Maddie was only really familiar with the subway stations during their peak hours, or at least when she was coming back late with friends and coworkers, so she never imagined the place could ever be this.....empty. In fact it was an interesting contrast to the infinitely crammed traincars and shuffling mob that was typical to rush hour. Perhaps this could make for a great new project to work on, a piece showing a dichotomy between the ever-busy life of an average Tokyo resident versus the serene but slightly unsettling moments of when they sleep.
Maddie continued on this train of thought for a while, studying the station in front of her until two younger ladies caught her eye, and she realized she was here to board an actual train instead. The redhead was unsure of the times of operation for the railway at this time of night, so she figured she'd approach the duo who seemed to be engaged in conversation.
Despite living in Japan for the last 7 years, Maddie still had issues trying to correctly determine Japanese etiquette customs. As a safety measure to ensure that no offense would be taken, she bowed rather deeply to the two apparent teenagers, before speaking.
"Pardon me for interrupting," said the redheaded American in suprisingly good Japanese for a non-native "but could you please inform me of whether this next train will be heading to Roppongi Hills?"

Her quiet song was disrupted by the presence of another person. A girl, probably about her age, or a little younger, with long ginger hair. Not exactly the type of person she expected to see at this time of night.
"Uh, hey." Normally, Rise wouldn't waste her time talking to a nerd like this, but it helped keep the unsettling air to a minimum. "Taking' a train?" What a subhuman question. Were her social skills really plummeting this much?
There wasn't much time to reflect on this poor choice of words, though, as a second person stopped by, asking a question about a train. This was also some sort of geeky woman. What was this, The Revenge of the Nerds?
"Oh, uh, yeah, that train's comin' now, actually." Why not play a little trick on these two? Maybe the reason they were here in the first place was because they were also chosen ones. No strange creatures with either of them, or anything that looked like it could be one hiding behind a holosuit. They were either like her, or just civilians.
"You takin' that train, too, Red? Well, I guess ya both could be Red." She couldn't think of another nickname at the moment that wasn't demeaning, so she decided to just pop the question. "Maybe I could call ya by yer name instead - I'm Rise!" She introduced herself with a smile that quickly faded back to a bored expression.
Where was that train? It was rather late.

"Same one as you, I think." A simple response to a subhuman ass question. Roppongi Hills...Yep, that was definitely the train everyone including the new redhead was waiting for, right? Mao seemed a little spaced out, staring ahead at the tracks before she seemed to take full notice of Maddie. "...Yeah, this is that train." Again. A simple response.
Mao had also noted the bow given by Maddie. Wait, people did that? Wait. This was Japan. Yeah, she was supposed to do that. She bowed in response. The tired girl looked to Rise and Maddie before inclining her head. "I'm Mao. Kita Mao. Nice to meet you. Whatcha gonna do at Roppongi?"
Aside from wait for a late-ass train.

"Oh, my apologies!" Maddie exclaimed, realizing she may have been a bit rude without providing an introduction before. She bowed quickly, and continued. "My name is Maddie! It's a pleasure to meet you both!" As she rose, she noticed some things about her new "companions": Rise's expression shift, Kita (or Mao's?) general spaciness. Needless to say, Maddie wasn't very impressed, but maybe this ride would at least be a neat story to tell later. Her stance and face relaxed a little, as she stopped caring about how she was coming across; Clearly, her acquaintances didn't either.
"I'm going to Roppongi Hills because of work. My boss apparently wants to "show me something" this late at night. Normally I'd ignore it until morning, but I was already up, so..." Maddie let that thought trail off, the conclusion being rather obvious.
"What are you two doing up this late at night anyway? Where are you heading to?"

"Well, Mao, Maddie, I'm just out lookin' for some fun." The youth stretched her arms and relaxed herself more on the bench, looking to each of her guests. She was fairly certain the younger redhead knew exactly what train she was talking about, given her vocal hints. "Jus' quit my job myself, way too borin'." She casually said, looking at Maddie with a smug expression. The working class wasn't good enough for her, anyways, like somebody like her should have to dirty their hands and serve other people.
A loud sound could be heard from the down the tunnel. It came closer and closer, the sound of steel wheels grinding against rails. It was the train they all had been waiting for.
The vehicle pulled up - looking completely normal at first glance. Rise got up from her seat promptly, spinning around towards the other two. "Well, c'mon, let's all ride together!" She would turn back to the train, and board it as its doors ominously opened. After all three had boarded, they would close and lock.
As the train began to move, it would likely be noticed that it was completely empty, though all lights were on. There was not a single passenger besides for the three. All windows and doors were locked, and the sign that usually displayed the next stop was glitching out.
"We're not goin' to borin' ol' Roppongi." Rise coldly said to the group, with a smile that didn't match her tone one little bit.

"It's alright. What do you work as? Can't...possibly be anything worth showing someone at a job this late..." Mao yawned and pushed her glasses up. Meanwhile, the pinkette was...here for fun? Unfortunately, Mao had zero idea what constitutes 'fun' late at night. So that just weirded her out.
But. She peered between the other two girls. One seemed to know where this train might be headed in reality. The other, maybe not. "Well, I've got insomnia and felt like getting some fresh air." Half of that was a lie. Yet you can't just admit to someone there's a voice in your head telling you to go somewhere, right?
That's crazy. Anyone who'd say that was crazy. The train of thought was interrupted by the arrival of the more literal train, of which Mao boarded pronto. As the train departed?
Things...began to get a little strange. "...No. No, we're not." She replied to Rise, though she wasn't...looking at either her or Maddie. Just at something a little ways off that wasn't really there.
