Exploring the Elysium [Mae/Johann/Invite]

As Mae pressed the enter key twice on the terminal, it seemed to reactivate an old mechanism after all this time. Like a computer that had been brought out from sleep mode, the interface in front of it glowed and seemed to power up. Curious, Owen and Bezil stood in front of it, wondering what would occur.
Soon after, a kind of screen lit up with what seemed to be a parting message from the workers a while ago. Owen and Bezil read carefully.
"9/7/41...
Excavation log: We're done here.
Everything Lord Isoroku had told us was here. We found the key to the seal of his sword, now he has it. So, guess that's it for us here. In a way, feels kinda numbing, now that everything he's told us is now actually gonna happen. Him marching on the DWR capital, us following, him unsheathing his sword to put down the corrupt traitors of the current administration.
But, this is what we signed up for. The self-indulgent swine that rule us currently have no future for us. That's why we followed Lord Isoroku.
Ah, what the heck am I doing? Nobody's gonna find this place afterward. I shouldn't be using this thing as a diary entry, but, I was told to leave a final message if anyone returned here, so, here it is.
Lord Isoroku for life baby! He resurrected the decrepit DWR! And we're all in behind him!
Signed - Lieutenant Bredis Ignitemon
Owen remained silent for a while after he read that message. He trembled a little, something that made Bezil concerned.
"Dad... everything okay?" the Gumdramon inquired.
"Lord Isoroku..." Owen murmured, his face contorted with rage and fear. "Isoroku Tactimon" he finished the full title. "He's... he's the one, that led the rebellion against the DWR"
Bezil finally realized what was happening. Old memories were forming in his father's mind. Memories of what happened that day in the Valley of Dragons.
"Dad, it's okay, he's dead now" the Gumdramon tried to reassure him. "Tactimon, the DWR, it's all gone now. But we're still here. The 7/71st. We're here to stop tyrants like him ever showing up again".
This speech managed to help Owen relax. He took some deep breaths, then returned to his normal self. "Yeah, you're right, son" he said, patting the Gumdramon's head. He thought of what this place represented. "So, this is where it all started, huh? The end of the old DWR. Heh. I wonder what they would've thought of the future? They copied the human world in their society, now we've got loads of humans showing up..." he turned to Johan. "No offense, mate. I don't have a problem with humans".
But, the significance of this place made Owen curious for more information. That such a discovery had empowered the digimon that had brought ruin to his old world... he felt he had to know the why of it. The Gaomon proceeded forward, moving toward a tunnel that seemed to lead deeper into the excavation site.

Mae stared at the screen, scanning the words as they came up...Until Johan and Dokamon basically threw her reading off with that little outburst. The Keramon slowly turned towards them, staring at them for several seconds. "...Are you mentally unwell? Or paranoid? It was merely a pressing of the button..." She stated.
After listening to Owen's explanation, she did wonder...What else was in here? "This Isoroku...Was he some sort of leader that the...disgruntled rallied behind?" She asked, following the dog 'mon further in.
...Oh. That's a tunnel. "...Tunnels are dark and stuff, I don't know if I should digivolve or not..."

"Whoa..." Johan muttered as the interface began to glow. Much like Owen and Bezil, Johan and Dokamon stood in front of it and observed it as well. Johan was curious to see what would happen, while Dokamon just hoped that it wouldn't blow up or something.
Before long, a message had appeared on the screen... completely written in Digimoji. This of course meant that Johan had no idea what it read, since he hadn't taken the time to learn Digimoji yet. Thankfully it was not needed as Owen read what it said outloud.
"Who is this 'Lord Isoroku'?" Dokamon asked. He had never heard of this being in any point in his life. Then, Owen explained: he was the one who led the rebellion against the DWR. A Tactimon.
"But why would there be a rebellion in the first place?" Johan asked as he began searching this computer for more answers. "I won't rest until I know the whole story behind this. Rebellions and revolutions happen for a reason."
"Maybe later," Dokamon told Johan as he dragged him and followed Owen down the tunnel.

As Owen heard Mae and Johan's questions, he slowed down in the tunnel a bit. "Yeah... that's right" he said, realizing he should do his best to explain things to them. Bezil clasped his paw too, so he'd take a break for the moment before advancing further. Also he realized Kamemon was still following them with curiosity. He had been so frightened about Lord Isoruku that he had forgotten about him, and he was probably the only one that actually lived here.
"Okay... where to start in all this?" Owen wondered out loud, then decided to go for the layman's terms he had been about before. "Okay. So, basically, in my previous life, I was a soldier of a nation of the digital world called the DWR, Digital World Republic... it wasn't a very creative name, but we basically tried to create a society based on what we knew about the human world. And it worked, for a while".
"Ah, right, I have some data from you about those days, dad" Bezil said, rubbing his head, trying to remember. "That's why you wear that tunic, right?"
"Yeah, partly. The main problem was that... digimon aren't like humans" he turned to Johan as he spoke. "I mean, humans and digimon are both sentient, can think of the bigger picture, but... our power differences are way different. Once you humans reach adulthood, you're no further physically stronger or weaker than each other, so your systems of government are more straightforward. The problem in the DWR, a loyal Rookie could suddenly evolve to a cocky Champion, then to an ambitious Ultimate, then to a Mega that didn't feel they needed to follow rules. And nobody had any idea who would be the stronger digimon, so, after a few decades, the framework of control and command that we modelled after the humans... kinda fell apart. The strong started to lord over the weak and become corrupt. Because nobody could actually stop them".
Owen paused to rub his own forehead for a moment before coming up with the conclusion. "Then, out of it all, Isoroku Tactimon exploited this resentment of what was going on in the DWR. Only he went way too far. He sought to crush the leadership, flatten what we had into dust, then start again. But we in the 7/71st saw that as the other extreme, we wanted to work to make things better from within rather than burn it all away like Tactimon wanted to. So, we stayed loyal, until the very end. Isoroku eventually won the civil war, but by then, he was just a king of the ashes, then one of his own servants assassinated him, and then my old world ended...".
Bezil was somewhat shocked to hear all this. "But dad... are you still fighting for that now?" he asked.
"Of course not!" Owen immediately countered. "The DWR's no longer around, but as long as I'm commanding officer of the 7/71st, no tyrant like that will ever be tolerated again" he realized he had said this a bit strongly, then calmed himself.
"As noble as that is, I'm sure we can rely on a Gaomon to protect us from Mega level tyrants" Kamemon said, blankly.
"Um, I can... evolve to Ultimate, you know" Owen pointed out. But still, that Kamemon had a point. They weren't strong enough to be fully protective from threats like Tactimon. Still, he had confidence they could do this. They had room to grow.
"So, uh, sorry about explaining about things for so long" Owen apologized to the group. "Should we continue? I'm curious about where this tunnel leads".

Republic. That was a word that Mae had not heard before. She knew what it meant, but had never seen it used in explanations or anything. She did sort of understand what Owen meant by people changing as they evolved. Well, their people. Not the screeching pink ones. It was nothing she was about to blab about, though.
This whole Tactimon story rubbed her the wrong way, though. It was hard to figure out why. "...So it was a clash of ideologies at it's core, and abrupt and complete change versus a slow and gradual change...I think I see...Oh, uh. It's fine. Yeah, we can continue. I can evolve into Champion-level in case we need it, but...I don't think we should? This place is, like...emptier than a Biyomon's head..."
Mae waited until everyone was ready before she proceeded into the tunnel.

"So... Digimon are just incapable of forming a society like humans?" Johan asked Owen. "Wait, but if that's true... how does a city like Terminus even work? There are society-like constructs in the Digital World right now!"
"I think the problem is that us Digimon grow more confident the higher we evolve. It does make it extremely difficult to have a set leader."
"This Isoroku guy seemed to have good intentions but had the complete wrong way of doing said intentions. So in reality, there was no winner of the war if it all fell to pieces anyways."
"There's one thing I'm worried about, however... Owen, you claim that Isoroku was assassinated. But was his data absorbed? If not, then I fear he might come back just like you did. Regain his old memories."
"If that's true, maybe he'll like this world better?" Johan suggested, cautiously optimistic.
With nothing more to say, the two followed Owen further into the tunnel.

Owen agreed where Mae was coming from. "Yeah, pretty much. It started off as disagreement, then anger, then violence, then war". All very sad.
Johan then asked about the current societies of the digital world. "Well, the main cities are pretty much ruled by a mayor, whose main job is to keep everything running" Owen said, simply. "At least I think? I'm not exactly sure, I don't think I've met one".
Come to think of it, that was the truth of things, the cities of the digital world simply seemed to... run. Like they were programmed to or something. Bezil didn't know what to make of this, kind of balancing on his tail and bouncing a little on the spot for a moment, holding his feet as he did so, but soon found that was a bad idea when he fell over. Owen made sure he was okay, and when he was, he continued.
"Hmm, yeah, whatever happened to Isoroku's data isn't known" Owen admitted. "Since we came back and he didn't, well... hopefully he doesn't come back any time soon".
So, Mae could evolve to champion? That'd be useful. They continued down the tunnel, seemingly spiralling onward. The walls were a dull metallic grey. It was getting kind of damp down here, but the place didn't seem to be particularly waterlogged.
At the end of it, there was a metal door. Owen raised his paw to open it, but it seemed to do so automatically. Therein, the lights of a large room illuminated. The Gaomon looked in, treading carefully, Bezil at his side. It appeared to be some kind of... research workshop. Various tools and utensils were left around on the benches as though they left in a hurry. There were even broken things on the floor; all the drawers were open too.
The walls in here were stone, apparently carved from the rock itself and only partially panelled. And at the other end of the room, a strange black stone stood against the rear wall.
Owen approached it with curiosity. As he did so, he felt a strange... pressing feeling on him, as though the air pressure had increased somewhat, but he didn't feel the pressure in his ears.
"Wow, dad, it's glowing!" Bezil exclaimed. Owen turned, and saw a solid block of what seemed to be the black rock. It was glowing with digicode, a bright blue, the symbols being illuminated downward. He had seen something like this before... on the Shining Sea. It was then that Owen realized what this was.
"I don't think we'll be doing any digivolving down here, Mae" he said to the Keramon. "From the looks of it... this seems like it's a Dark Tower research lab".

"So it's...not so much forming societies. Keeping them afloat, depending on the kind, is the...crux of the issue. Is that the right word? Crux?" Somehow, Mae had a feeling that Isoroku's data being...well, MIA/unknown/what have you indicated that this tale had not quite finished.
Of course, while she could peer into the future, she couldn't discern anything like that sort of stuff. Not at all. Definitely not yet. "Equivalent chance of change, equivalent chance of staying exactly the same." Mae's voice took a bit of a...alien tone. Emphasis on the wrong parts and all around sounding colder than usual.
Thankfully, her cheery demeanor resurfaced as they had moved in. As did her...eh. Youth. "Like...the spires. The control spires. What's...this research meant for?" She slowly inched forward, towards the black rock. And if allowed? She'd try reading the digicode.

Johan got a little bit sad. He remembered learning about things like the Revolutionary War and the Civil War back in school, while he was still in the United States. He hoped that things would've been different here in the Digital World, but sadly they were not...
No matter what country you go to, or what world you go to, there will always be conflict. Johan was sick of all of it.
As the group went on, they reached the end of the hallway which had a metal door. Upon entering, they seemed to enter some kind of... workshop? "Ugh, this place is quite the mess," Johan joked as he picked up what looked like a pair of tongs.
"What would a place like this be doing down here?" Dokamon asked. Just then, it was revealed that this room was a Dark Tower Research Lab. Johan hadn't heard the term before, but Dokamon had. His eyes raised in fear. "We need to leave! NOW!"
"Wait, what's wrong? What's a Dark Tower?"
"They're evil contraptions used to both limit Digimon to Rookie level AND control them through Dark Rings. I am not staying here to be taken over by one! I'll kill myself before I harm you, Johan!"

Owen and Bezil couldn't help but blink at the way Mae said that. "Are you okay there?" Bezil asked, not helping but wondering if everything was alright. But in the present, Owen turned to Dokamon, who seemed rather frightened at the fact they were in lab that researched such horrible things. "It should be fine, mate, calm down" the Gaomon said, gently. "As long as we don't touch anything, we shouldn't be in any danger".A pang of worry shot through him as he turned to Bezil. Owen had seen firsthand what control spires could do. If Bezil were to be ensnared by one of the artifacts here, well, he'd be rather unhappy about that. "Bezil, stay close to me, alright, mate?" he told his son. "Alright" Bezil said, recognizing his father's tone as worried. Owen turned back to Johan and Dokamon. "Anyway, dark towers are bad news, but, this could be a chance for us to learn more about them and how to stop them" he explained. Speaking of, he wondered if Mae had found anything interesting on the digicode of the glowing tower piece. It would be rather unlikely, as the digicode was raw programming code, designed to emit a signal that halted the phenomenon of rookie digimon evolving to champion. Owen knew that the only way to go past that was to match the code with a dark ring, or to immunize oneself against it with a digimental. Only a skilled data expert could discern that from what was visible. "Hm. Maybe we should look for research notes?" Bezil suggested to the group. "They should tell us in more detail what these things are"."Yeah, sounds good" Owen said, having examined a workbench, but the labels were mostly only describing tools and ingredients. A pair of words were showing up a lot though. "Black Digicite". "Could the substance of the towers be called that?" Owen thought to himself, when he heard the clanging of a tool dropping to the floor at the other side of the room, away from where he knew the others were. "Who's there?" he asked. "Is that you, Kamemon?""Nope, I'm still here" Kamemon answered, having stayed put near the part of the room with the black stone. "Sorry for not helping, but I don't understand any of this, but I would like to remain and see if there's any further danger".Cautiously, Owen moved toward the source of the noise. There, to the side of the room, he saw another digimon. He immediately noticed glowing red eyes - the sign of a digimon under the control of a dark ring. But the digimon wasn't that big, just a rookie level. Then he noticed the forehead horn, then the pelt, it was a Gabumon. And there was a dark ring fitted snugly around his neck. "Oh boy..." Owen said. "Guys, we might have trouble!" he called to the others. Bezil ran to his side, while Kamemon merely looked on. "Gabumon... can you understand me?" the Gaomon spoke carefully. All this did was make the Gabumon turn his head and exhale a jet of blue fire from his mouth straight at him! Owen reacted immediately, opened his mouth and gave a strong bark back at him, causing a short shockwave of air to counteract and dissipate the flames.
Bezil gasped, then growled, bracing for combat, his tail swishing in preparation.
"Yep, definitely trouble!" Owen stated. However, he didn't think the threat was too insurmountable. "But he's just a rookie. Everyone, we should try and pin him down and get that dark ring off!"
A Gabumon appears! He's under the control of a Dark Ring! Battle Log: Gabumon uses Blue Blaster on Owen.Owen counter-attacks with Wild Echo, cancelling it out.
Wild Echo: Gives a short, sharp bark that sends a small burst of wind energy at his target.

Text, text and more text...Mae could not quite discern what was going on except a lot of nulls were being thrown around which probably meant something was being cancelled out...Maybe evolution, if her knowledge on these towers was anything to go off of. To make things a bit...something? Her focus was thrown off by Dokamon basically screeching in hysteria.
"...I didn't even touch it, what are you getting all 'OH NO!' for now...?" The Keramon stated, turning towards everyone else. "Anyways...This is just...code? I think? It's...odd. I don't know a lot about it but I wanna learn now..."
They weren't alone, either. A Gabumon was also present, and...He had a ring around him. A dark ring. "...Ooooh..." Mae gulped. Oh boy, here I go fighting again...
"Crrraaaazy Giggle!" Mae opened her mouth as she shot a literal ball of light at Gabumon to get his attention. Or open him up for Dokamon or Owen or Bezil to get in there.
Mae fires Crazy Giggle at Gabumon!

Dokamon took a deep breath, breathing in and out. "You... you are correct. Thank you, Owen. I am much calmer now."
Johan was still trying to process the words that Dokamon had just said while he was panicking. Did... did he really mean that? Did Dokamon actually care about him?
He didn't get to think about that much before the sound of dropping tools rung throughout the room. Johan and Dokamon turned to the source. Suddenly, a Gabumon wearing a Dark Ring fired a Blue Blaster at Owen! Thankfully he used a Wild Echo attack, which cancelled it out. Just after that, the Keramon Mae had fired a ball of light right at the Gabumon!
"Aim for the Dark Ring around its neck!" Dokamon commanded as he ran right up to the Gabumon. He brought back his fist as it charged with energy."DOKKAAAAAN PUNCH!" Dokamon then sent that energy-charged fist right at the Dark Ring! Dokamon uses Dokkan Punch on the Dark Ring.

Mae's Crazy Giggle served as the perfect opening for Owen and Bezil to close in. They ran, as well as Dokamon, aiming to get in close to be able to physically knock down Gabumon so they could better handle his ring. Mae's attack hit, somewhat startling the pelt-wearing lizard. Then Dokamon closed in first and struck with his fist, hammering at the ring. Most unfortunately, Gabumon's reaction to this was to counter-attack fiercely. He exhaled a torrent of blue fire, then to Owen's shock, began to spin in place, so rapidly that a tornado of blue fire erupted where he stood. Since the Gaomon was rather uncomfortable around fire, he forced himself to hold back, staying out of range. Bezil did too initially, but, the Gumdramon knew an advantage that he had that his father didn't - he was a dragon. And dragons don't back down from a bit of fire. "Bezil! Wait!" Owen shouted, but Bezil dashed forward, his tail glowing a frosty light blue, he temporarily vanished in the flames, but, they only did a little bit of damage against him. Nothing compared to what he aimed to do against the out-of-control Gabumon. "Frosty Tail!" Bezil shouted, then slammed his icy tail hammer against Gabumon's feet. Its effect was immediate, since the fire wasn't touching his own legs, the ice attack immediately chilled his lower body, immediately forcing him to halt. Under the momentum of his own attack, Gabumon quickly stumbled, then fell, his attack dissipating. "Well done, Bezil!" Owen praised his son, then took the chance to act. The Gaomon ran forward, then leapt on Gabumon's back, pinning him down with his weight, holding his paws behind his back. "Okay, we got him! Let's get the ring off! Watch his mouth though!"Gabumon struggled and tried to break free, but Owen was quite big and heavy for a Rookie level and would not be budged. Bezil meanwhile tried to find a weak point of the ring to use to break it off. It seemed it needed the efforts of all of them to release it.
Combat Log: Gabumon is struck by Crazy Giggle and Dokkan Punch, his ring taking damage.
Gabumon uses Blue Cyclone on Owen, Bezil and Dokamon. Blue Cyclone - Gabumon spins rapidly in place, spitting blue fire in a small twister. Deals fire area-of-effect damage to anyone standing within 15 feet. [Cooldown: 1 turn]Owen holds back from the attack as it begins.Bezil runs forward, is hit by Blue Cyclone, then attacks Gabumon directly with Frosty Tail. He takes half damage thanks to Fiery heart.
Combat Passive: Fiery Heart - Bezil may have beast-like fur from his parents, but at heart he is still a little dragon. This power protects him from the effects of heat and reduces incoming fire damage from Champions and lower by 50%. To offset this, water attacks deal 30% more damage to him.
Frosty Tail - Bezil sweeps his tail in an arc, sending blade of freezing wind that would damage the enemy and deal extra damage if the enemy moved the affected part for two turns. [Cooldown: 2 turns]
Gabumon's legs become frozen. Owen runs forward and pins Gabumon to the ground.

It was a christmas miracle that Mae was far from the Gabumon. His tornado didn't have that much range, so it didn't affect her. Period.
Heck, was she even there? Who knows? Taking the chance with the now halted and pinned Gabumon, Mae slithered up towards him as though she were some kind of apple-offering snake with big, meaty hands that she intended to use for their intended purpose. To grasp.
To crush.
To SLAP. She aimed to curl her hand around the dark ring...And squeeze. Squeeze with enough force to crush lesser beings. "Catch these hands, enragement furry. Dark Crusher!"
Dark Crusher: Keramon goes right for the slap, trying to crush the opponent (or part of them) in her hands! This attack deals more damage to Virus-types. Why? We just don’t know.
Squeeeeeze. Cruuuuush. That's what's happening to that poor ring.

"Alright! Go Dokamon!" Johan cheered, doing a fist pump upwards. He immediately took that back when the Gabumon began to use Blue Cyclone, causing Dokamon to fly back and crash into a wall. Thankfully he immediately recovered from that.
"Damn it! Those rings are tough!"
"Maybe more forced is needed? I mean, it'll probably break eventually!"
"To do that, we need to make sure it doesn't pull any fancy tricks like it just did!" Luckily, Bezil had that covered, with him using Frosty Tail to freeze the Gabumon's feet to the ground, with Owen holding him back as well. Meaning Mae and Dokamon could both do as they pleased to free this Gabumon.
And that's what Mae did, using her hands to squeeze that dark ring into submission. No way was Dokamon not going to take that action as well. He launched right at the Gabumon's dark ring, his fists a flying. "Doka Doka Ruuuush!"
Dokamon is hit by the Blue Cyclone.
Dokamon uses Doka Doka Rush on the Dark Ring.
