Titania felt like nothing. A lot of nothing, in fact. So much nothing that a black hole was considered something. She sort of just felt like her body was on autopilot as she flew through the plains and past them towards the east.
What lay eastward? Well…It was home. Home, where she and the three rabbits she called cousins grew up. Maybe she could see if dad or her aunt were at least home and maybe get some advice from them about what had happened. With Haru and Naoko and all that. It was kind of sensible to her, really. After all…It was a lot of stuff to confess. Even after she had told Mizu about it? She didn’t feel at all at peace with everything. She felt better, sure! Spending time with a loved one helps with that. But making peace with it was an entirely different story.
It also wasn’t the first time she had dealt with anything like that, either. Hence the decision to visit.
The hollow that Titania’s family had called home still stood within the forests of the Timberlands. A rather impressively built structure of stone that somehow had lights and everything in it, it was usually empty nowadays. Everyone had their own things to do, but there was one way to ensure that someone would always come back to the house. A little bell at the door.
The time was dusk. Titania had flown all the way to her old home from the Library. She stood at the door to a rather dark and unlit place. The fairy stared up to the bell and decided to give it a ring.
Ding ding!
At first, nobody came. It was silent. Dull. This had continued for a few minutes, with Titania opting to sit at the steps of the front door. Then a bright flash of light and a booming noise, much like business in a dry place, came suddenly to herald two people arriving.
One was an Apollomon who stood about as tall as the structure itself, and the other was a Dianamon who…was more reasonably sized. By that, she was a head shorter than the Apollomon.
“…Who was it that just rang the bell?” The Dianamon inquired, scarlet eyes peering about. The Apollomon stared at the steps before he kneeled. “Well, who else would come to visit?” The God Man replied with a happy smile as Titania rubbed her eyes and looked up.
“Hey, dad.”
“Hey there, kiddo!” That actually prompted the fairy to smile. The Dianamon stared, coldly. “You don’t usually visit us at this time of year.” That was fair. She didn’t. Except, Filia was far more astute than one could think. “Something happened.” She concluded. “Yeah. I guess you could say that. Well, a lotta things happened and I’m trying to wrap my head around them.”
Silence descended upon the three for a moment, before the Apollomon shrugged. “Well, a parent’s job is to listen. And nobody’s ever gonna have the leverage to call Xu a bad parent.” Unlike Filia.
“I still have more than you.” The Dianamon rolled her eyes. “So? I can dote on one more than fou-…Three.” Xu retorted, snorting before the Apollomon rose and moved to sit next to the fairy. If there was ever any time to draw a comparison to a Miyazaki movie, now was a good time. “So.” Filia began. “Tell us. What’s on your mind, little princess?” Titania took a deep breath. This was going to be rather heavy. “Well…For starters…I got a tamer. Err…Rather, I bumped into someone who happened to be destined to become my tamer or something…I’m not sure. So I got depowered and stuck as a Tinkermon for a while.”
“Do…keep the stories we told you of our tamer in mind. Humans are…odd creatures. I do feel as though there’s more to it. Keep going.” Filia, to note, had been standing this entire time. She’d continue standing. Xu, meanwhile, nodded along. “Okay. That’s nice. Means you finally found a friend that stays. And…I’m honestly happy to hear of that. Where’s your pal?”
Wait if her pal wasn’t here then did that mean something bad happened to them? Xu sort of paled for a moment. Titania, thankfully, saw that. “…Relax, she’s okay. She’s in the human world right now. You’d…probably like her. Her name’s Naoko. Teenager that looks a lot like a boy and wears a bunny hoodie and gets really flustered easily. Anyways, we bond and the like, I start getting my strength back, helped a club that Kokonut’s si—” “Wait. Kokonut?” Filia interrupted. A little suddenly. Titania perked a brow. “…Yeah?” “…Apologies. That was…odd.” The Dianamon cleared her throat. Xu shrugged. “Pixie’s made worse nicknames. So, tamer’s got a sister? In a club? Is it a cool kid’s club?”
“You’re goddamn right it is!” Titania suddenly exclaimed! “Language.” Chided Filia. “Okay, sorry! Anyways! We helped the club scout some recently surfaced ruins. The Sunken Elysium—You’ve heard of that, right?”
“We were there, recently. So…yep.” Xu nodnodded. Titania saw this as an okay to continue. “I made friends with the club head Yukiko’s Digimon. She’s a real sweetheart, her name’s Mizu and I think I’d start a fight if anything bad happened to either her or her tamer.”
“You start fights all the time, though. I’m pretty sure White and Medea can corroborate this…” Filia sighed, while Xu was more or less paying close attention. “…Go on. I’ll hear your story out to the end, kiddo.” “And then a day or two later I ran into her at the mall and we shopped for games and ate food and somehow I wound up with a girlfriend from that, which was pretty neat.”
Where there would be a quip from Filia, there was silence. Of the stunned variety. Xu meanwhile reached over to gently pat the Tinkermon on the head. “…Three friends. I’m proud. Take it you make each other happy?” “Well…yeah. It’s like having a bester friend. So…fast forward a few months. Naoko and I received an invitation to join the Field Club—the guys I mentioned earlier, and we went and took care of that before we fought a Mega level with some friends…That was…a little harrowing. Then after that, Haru, Naoko, Tawna-”
“Who?” Filia once more interjected. No, really, who? “Haru’s partner. A Meicrackmon. A rare example of a good one. Not like that…Heart Machine thing.” Titania explained, which elicited the following from Xu. “Thank fuck.”
“LANGUAGE.” Filia barked.
“Anyways. We get an SOS signal from the Folder Desert and we find a portal. We enter it. Get attacked by another Meicoomon that…kinda…sorta…got a hold of the girls. Then we managed to prompt her to drop Naoko but she got away through a portal and...promptly killed Haru. And learning that through Tawna made Naoko have a Auntie Filia and ended up causing worse stuff to happen to me. And...” The fairy trailed off.
Auntie Filia: To have a moment of extreme emotional outbreak in response to a heavily traumatic situation when you’ve up to this point been some amount of stolid or nervous.
That’s basically what happened. Xu did not move a muscle for a few moments. Titania did imply something. He thought he had gotten what was implied. Dark Digivolution…Something he dared not wish upon anyone. Even his own worst enemy.
Filia got the implication, too. “…I am sorry to hear that. So…Why tell us this? What does…this lead to?” The Dianamon inquired, squinting. “Well, it…sort of leads to this question, auntie. I guess this goes to you too, dad. But…How do you deal with loss? Losing a friend? I mean…I’ve lost friends before…Sure, they’ve left…But…None were killed…”
Brother and sister just looked up at each other. And the mutual thought process went as follows.
Oh. Oh shit.
