CHAPTER III: BACK AT HOME
Episode 1: Empanadas to go! The food burglar of the mysterious restaurant in Miyashita Park!
Two days have gone by since Katherine and Kazuya had surprisingly come back to the Human World after going through that portal the evil Void opened back at Server Woods. The girl had still pending to go out for that coffee she promised to have alongside the man back at the forest, but she had decided to wait until he felt better of his wounded hand. For now, the task after coming out of school that Monday was simple: going to visit that old restaurant they mentioned in the news were food had started to disappear since last Saturday night. Could it be a coincidence that food was disappearing during nighttime over such odd circumstances in a restaurant located not that far from where she and Kazuya (and Void, most importantly) arrived, precisely, last Saturday? probably, yes. But if she wanted to find Void she had to consider every possibility, didn't she? Katherine walked through one of the avenues alongside a brown haired girl that matched her beautiful bright eyes, around her same size and wearing a school uniform just like hers. Can you guess? Yes, her Digimon partner Jazz using that holosuit Reviewemon had gotten for her back at Whitewater. Of course, she didn't feel entirely comfortable with it and she preferred being inside the girl's backpack when traveling was necessary and she didn't want to be noticed. Nevertheless, considering she had to remain home to rest from her wounds yesterday, now she was officially on her first day in the Human World ever, and she just wanted to see EVERYTHING. She just needed some of Katherine's spare clothes and she was ready to go. -So many people! Everyone seems so busy! -The girl (internally bunny) couldn't stop staring at every odd dressing person or shop they passed by. -We will have time for tourism later, Jazz. -Katherine just kept looking at a map in her phone. -We're already in front of Miyashita Park, so this restaurant should be really close.-What are we exactly looking for? -Jazz stopped looking at whatever crossed her view and turned at Katherine tilting her head. -This odd restaurant that came out yesterday and this morning at the news, where food has been disappearing mysteriously during the night. -How could she not remember, honestly? The only thing she had done during those past days at Katherine's apartment had been watching TV and read stuff on the internet. -Are we going to eat there? - Sure, once we find it. They said its a restaurant that specializes in Latin American and Spanish food, more specifically empanadas. -The curly haired girl kept walking through the streets looking for the place. -Wait, Kath! What are those empanadas you mentioned? -Her partner quirked an eyebrow while she unavoidably followed, since Katherine was holding her hand to avoid the holosuited digimon to wander around. -Food. You'll see once we get... -The girl turned to her right, just realizing they were right at the spot and interrupting herself. - ... here. -Sadly, the restaurant seemed to be closed. The girl just stood there, staring at the big sign at the entrance and a half-opened door, wondering if they should go in any way.

It wasn't really often that Akemi found herself going to the park. At least, not accompanied by her sister. It was one of the few moments where they weren't at each other's throats. Something that her company found both heartwarming and mildly amusing. Speaking of which, her company for this trip was a girl(?) with bright pink hair all done up in a braid. And wearing a sleeveless shirt along with some shorts.
To say Anzu was flaunting herself was to state something incredibly obvious, but there was very little to actually flaunt. If anything, she just looked really happy. But...Why were they even here? Well, Anzu wanted to try some empanadas at a weird restaurant that came out on the news...And Akemi had zero idea what those actually were.
"Hey, uh, Anzu?" "Hm?" "...What're empanadas?" This prompted the girl to just stop, right near the (closed) restaurant and whirled around. "WELL. They're a kind of food you usually find in the southern regions of the Americas, I believe, and one of my oldest friends in another time used to make them. I feel nostalgic. And I want to indulge in my nostalgia with my most -valuable- ally."
A lecture in the midst of the park bustle. Lovely.

Just after hearing a perfect explanation of what empanadas were, Katherine simply nodded in a matter-of-factly way, while she heard the feminine voice define very thoroughly the dish. -That's exactly it. See? people who come here come because of their empanadas, they are pretty famous around Shibuya! -The nodding didn't stop until the girl actually turned to see who was the person giving such an explanation. It didn't take her too much to notice the most relevant feature of this girl... she had pink hair! Just blinking her green eyes at the sight, she then turned to see a smaller brunette around her age, who seemed to be accompanying the aforementioned lady.
Even though usually awkward at trying to start up conversations (or continuing them, or ending them, or just talking in general, or trying to relate with people, or...) Katherine showed a smirk at the smaller girl. -So you two came here to eat empanadas too? I wonder why it is closed at this time of day. -It was around 03:00 pm, so people should be eating, right? What was a restaurant at the middle of Miyashita parked doing closed at this hour? Maybe it had something to do with the robbery? It would make sense if it were being investigated, even though according to the news the owner had rejected any help from the police regarding the case.
-Hey, Kath... -Jazz whispered, pulling from her tamer's sweater that covered the shirt of her school uniform. -The door is just half-open, do you think we should enter and ask or...? -Kath... -Her peer insisted, having noticed something important regarding the girl with pink hair; sadly, Katherine seemed to be busy chatting with the pair at the moment.

Well, the presumption that this lecture was for Akemi only was quickly dispelled by someone seeming to take interest and confirming stuff with Anzu. Akemi found herself just...nodding slowly, and fixing her hat. "That's somewhat surprising to me. I hadn't gathered this place was here. My friend here invited me to indulge in what's...basically nostalgia for her. But it's weird that it's closed at the middle of the afternoon."
Anzu observed that the door was half open, and while Akemi spoke to Katherine, the disguised Digimon tapped her chin. She was thinking. And she had also noticed Jazz, too. Both she and her did notice similar things...With elicited a smirk. "Rather rude of me not to introduce myself. And of my friend." She began, Akemi sort of fixed the collar of her blouse. "Right. I'm Amaya Akemi. But...Uh. Just calling me Akemi is fine. Honorifics aren't my thing. And this is my frie-"
She turned to Anzu, who...was not there. In fact, she was heading right for the half-open door with the intent to go inside. "...That's my friend, Anzu. She's...uh. She's something else."

Truth be told, Miyashita Park was some sort of emblematic place around Shibuya, so it wasn't hard to think of this restaurant as probably a very known one, and even though Katherine herself had never heard of it, that wasn't at all surprising since she barely went out to eat. -I didn't know either, I just heard about it on the news and thought about coming by. -Well that wasn't very normal of her was it? People didn't usually leisurely walked into a place where a crime was committed just for fun; that of course, unless they were chasing an inter-dimensional evil egg that escaped from an alternate dimension and thought this might somehow be related to him. -I mean! Just because the food sounded good, that is, since I'm from Spain and... -Okay, maybe time to stop talking to avoid sounding even more suspicious.
-Kath... -Jazz kept pulling from the green-eyed girl's sweater, while she stared right at the pink haired girl. -It's nice to meet you, Amay- I mean! Akemi. -Well, trying to not address her with honorifics would probably be hard for Katherine, but she probably would eventually get used to it. -I am Jasso Katherine, but just call me Katherine. -Even though she had to get used to introducing herself by her last name first since she arrived Japan, it was nice having someone willing to call her by her first name, just like everywhere else she had been at. The name of the pink haired girl accompanying Akemi definitely surprised her, but not as much as she just promptly going inside the place without much of a 'Can I come in?' -Just... Anzu? -She asked, tilting her head. -Well, she seems funny. -A bout of laughter ensued.
-Kath... -This was never ending, was it? -Well, this place might be being investigated by the police so let's try she doesn't get in trouble okay? -Katherine followed Anzu into the restaurant. Upon entering, she noticed nothing seemed weird about it: the tables were perfectly organized, the counter was clean; it's just that it was... completely empty. Not even work staff could be seen.

That wasn't quite normal for either of them. Who -would- come near a place where a crime occurred? Be it for fun or for food? "Oh, you're...uh...Spanish? A Spaniard...? That's neat." Akemi looked to Jazz. "...What's up? And yeah, just Anzu. Uh...She hasn't told me her family name yet. She's real weird like that. But she's nice, I swear."
And yes, trying to make sure Anzu didn't get in trouble was top priority for right now. "Yeah, she...has a bad habit of also getting me into trouble sometimes. Though, I'm sure she means well." Akemi noted to Kath as she followed her into the restaurant. They found Anzu staring at the strange...dissonance in the restaurant.
Clean.
Yet a ghost town.
The girl turned towards the three and waved. "Ah, so kind of you to join me in this escapade! Unfortunately, I think our plans for lunch are forcibly cancelled, thanks to the absence of any kind of human presence in this restaurant. Well, except for you three." Wait, did she just say she wasn't human? Anzu turned and gestured to the whole of the restaurant. "What do you think's the deal here, hm?"
...To say Akemi was a little lost was to put it quite lightly. "Well, um...I'm not sure. Maybe it's just like this because of the crime...?"

Rubbing the back of her head, Katherine simply replied to her new acquaintance inquiry. -Yes! Born in Spain... not really raised, though, since I moved when I was little. -Giving out a small nod, the girl then turned at her holosuited digimon partner, as Akemi asked her what was wrong.
Some brief silence ensued this question. -You... don't know...? -Jazz only muttered, looking elsewhere.
-Oh, god! I'm sorry. -The closed restaurant, the new people, the possible crime scene, something (or maybe everything at once) had distracted Katherine from introducing her partner. -This is Jazmine! She's a friend of mine. -That was the name they had agreed on using for her inside the human world in a clever display of ideas the two held earlier that day. -Hi there. -The brunette bowed, without really taking her eyes off Akemi.
Now they were inside, and the pink haired girl seemed to have enough energy to fill the desertic restaurant. -E-Escapade? -Sweatdropping, Katherine let go a small grin, only to then turn her gaze towards the fairly more normal girl of the two. -I couldn't really tell. If that was the case, at least one police officer should be here, right? -Kath... -There she went again, Jazz pulling from the girl's sweater as she stared at Anzu. -What's wrong? You've been trying to tell something for a while now, right? Go ahead.
Shrugging right after, the "girl" with the two very long pigtails, raised an arm, pointing at Anzu. -Digimon...
Katherine's eyes widened, as she turned to her holosuited bunny. Did she even hear correctly? She wondered. She said... digimon? The green-eyed girl wasn't an expert on the subject, but she was pretty sure that when you are a disguised digimon trying to remain unnoticed inside the human world; "digimon" was probably fairly above at the list of words you shouldn't be saying randomly.
Someone had to break the awkward silence this simple word had produced, and soon.

Katherine herself was proving to be an interesting character. Foreigner yet raised...not in Spain. Akemi nodded at the other girl, before looking to...Jazmine, as Kath identified her. She, on the other hand, was strange. She wasn't sure what was wrong in the slightest...
'Cept maybe Anzu. She was definitely wrong. Very wrong. Anywho. Akemi bowed as Jazmine did, giving her a smile. "Nice to meet you." Speaking of Anzu. She had been met by no actual answer as to what the trio had thought transpired in this here restaurant. Nope, she was met with...something else. Akemi noted that Jazmine had been tugging at Kath's sweater again, and what was wrong was finally aired out.
Somehow. Someway. The girl saw through her partner's disguise. That was shocking to Akemi, but...not so much to Anzu. She simply smiled, stepped on over, and nodded. "You'd be correct." Was that a random guess or not? Anzu had her own guesses as to what Jazmine might be to be able to identify her right off the bat...But. Who shows their cards on the first go? "...Guessing you're also a Digimon. Must be the only plausible explanation."
It seemed Akemi was in stunned silence. This...was not how she was expecting that to go. Anzu simply awaited a response.

Could the restaurant get more silent than dead silent? Apparently, it could; the response given by Anzu which followed Jazz's "accusation" was even more surprising. Not only she admitted being a digimon, she quickly reached the conclusion that Jazz was a digimon too.
-Right. -Was the bunny actually waiting for something different to happen? It didn't seem like. It was only logical that, if Anzu was, in fact, a digimon, Jazz recognizing her as one only showed that she was one too. Katherine just stared at Akemi, while the small girl stared back at her. This was awkward.
-Jazz, are you sure? -Katherine just muttered, without really taking her eyes off both Anzu and her partner. -No doubt. -Shaking her head, Jazz continued. -She's probably using one of these things too, to look like a human.
Katherine didn't really know how to go on from here. It was actually the first time she encountered a tamer inside the Human World being accompanied by her own digimon. -Amaya... No, Akemi... is that true? -Well, there wasn't much left to do but asking directly, was it?
Once everything regarding this small impasse was settled (which probably wouldn't be that easy) Katherine would look around the restaurant, to then reply to Anzu. -I don't know what could be going on with this place. I refuse to think it's completely empty. Maybe there's someone sleeping at the back? -The curly haired girl's eyes fixed on a seemingly closed door behind the counter.

"Again, you'd be correct." A brief dispersal of Anzu's holosuit revealed a sight to behold--A Sangloupmon standing where she was. The wolf simply stood there, with the smallest inkling of a smirk. "It's as close to a humanoid form as I can get. Also sows plenty of confusion, given I apparently look like...Hey, Kemi, what was their name again? Astolfo? Something like that?" The wolf asked as she was once more surrounded by a purplish light, one that signified her holosuit being activated again.
Akemi nodded at Katherine. "Yes, that's true. Both of those. Granted, I bought her that so she wouldn't attract too much attention by being a literal flying purple bean. As far as my family knows, she's just my very eccentric friend." Anzu huffed. "That's not what you told me! They said I'm trouble and boy oh boy were they right!"
Akemi sighed. "Sorry...Anyways. That's what I was gonna suggest next. Checking the back." Well, if that's what was next, Anzu turned around, beckoned the girls to follow before she went over to...not kick the door open, but actually open it carefully, after jumping the counter with a surprising amount of dexterity. "So, Jazz, was it...? What sort of Digimon might you be under the suit?" The bean found herself asking. She hadn't actually met another partnered digimon that wasn't an obnoxious piece of trash. Or one that wasn't a Renamon. Or a witch. But she thought Dorothy was nice. Heck, of all the people going through her mind, that witch was the least awful.
The tamer had been following suit, getting over the counter with a bit of difficulty. She wasn't the most physically active girl in the world, cut her some slack!

The showing of a purple colored very scary beast, the mentioning of a purple bean and some... Astolfo? only confused the girl more than she was. She pulled out her digivice, identifying the creature as a Sangloupmon.
Bottom line, it had been proved, Anzu was a digimon and Akemi was, in fact, a tamer, constituting the first Katherine had found inside the Human World. The possibility of this not being a coincidence but something probably related to the strange events going on inside this restaurant, was something Katherine could study in much more detail later; right now, there was a digimon in front of her, at the middle of a restaurant in Shibuya, with the door half opened, so she could only be grateful when Anzu decided to go back into her pink-haired girl form. Jazz's eyes glimmered at the sight of the beast. -So cool! -She muttered effusively, once Anzu was back at her human form. The bunny also considering taking her holosuit off for a second; which she had been wanting to do since they left the apartment since she found it very uncomfortable. Katherine's words echoing inside her head stopped her from doing it.
"You can NOT take that off while we are out there, understood? If you do, no more internet or TV for you!"
Nope, she loved that computer too much for that; plus! She had just discovered the science channel!
-She definitely looks like it. -Katherine let go a giggle right after. Anzu also looked like trouble, she said it herself, but the girl wasn't about to say that just now, plus, she didn't seem to mean bad, and was definitely very funny.
And now, as Katherine should have expected, Anzu was heading towards the door behind the counter, again, clearing the path for the girls to follow; it was probably not the most sophisticated way of getting information, but they had to know, somehow, right? The girl was about to suggest they called to see if there was someone back there first, but she figured if no one came out with all the previous chatter they held, they wouldn't by calling.
After crossing the counter, Katherine extended a hand to Akemi to help her get through, holding a smile towards her. -By the way... purple bean? -She asked, reminiscing about what she had just said. -What do you mean by that? Her rookie form? -In all honesty, that beast looked like an adult digimon, so maybe that flying bean was her previous evolutionary stage.
-I am a Lopmon, I can't show you right now, though, Katherine would get angry. -Some sort of dissatisfied expression made its way to the brunette's face. -But later we can... -Jazz immediately interrupted herself as, upon opening the door, they caught sight of an old man, sleeping on the lower part of an old bunk bed, in a room that seemed like some sort of storage. The elder had a green sweater and white, shiny hair.
-There's someone sleeping in here. -Katherine muttered to Akemi, after she took a peek into the room, while her partner and Anzu were still standing by the opened door. -Kath... -Jazz whispered, just like some minutes ago.

"Looots of trouble." Akemi mumbled, following along. "Yeah, purple bean. Tsukaimon. I don't know why they or Patamon--the orange ones are called beans. They just...are." Akemi replied, after accepting Kath's help in getting over the counter. "Thank you."
Anzu glanced to Jazz and nodded. "Oh, I get it. Akemi gets her feathers ruffled whenever I pull off what I did back there with the holosuit." She seemed to understand where the Lopmon was coming from. Peeking into the back revealed an old man, fast asleep. Akemi nodded once more. "...So there is. What...should we do?"
No way of telling who that guy was, really. Anzu noticed Jazz whispering again like she had been a while ago. "...I'll admit, I'm also at a loss on how to proceed...Think that guy's a digimon or just some elderly man? Because both are equally possible, granted our luck..."

Tsukaimon, huh? For some reason, that name ringed a bell on Katherine's head, but she couldn't quite place it. Even if this could be normal for someone that had been two months inside the Digital World seeing all kinds of digimon, the curly-haired girl was so fascinated by the digital creatures and was usually so curious about their species, she usually remembered their names; then why couldn't she remember where had she heard that one? The question kept fluttering around her head for a while. Just right after Anzu whispered, the old man opened his eyes widely and stood up from the bunk bed. -I'm awake! -He said, effusively. - How could he wake up from that whisper and not all the noise we made just a minute ago!? -Quirking an eyebrow, Katherine asked confused, whispering to Akemi, avoiding being heard by the elder. The man took a pipe from a nightstand near the mattress and took it to his mouth. There was no doubt for Katherine at that time, this was the same man that she had spotted on the news, the owner who rejected the police's help regarding the case. Immediately, Katherine bowed. - We're sorry, sir! We really didn't mean to bother we just came here to eat and we saw the door opened, one thing lead to another and... -Speaking incredibly fast, the girl tried to explain their actions to the man, being very embarrassed at the whole situation. Slowly, he started walking towards the door, where the group was standing, a passive yet analytic gaze, especially over Jazz and Anzu. -I see... -He only muttered, not paying much attention to Katherine's words. -Huh? -Jazz then turned her head towards Anzu, as she asked her about the old male. -So you noticed too, right? - Honestly, she doubted the pink haired girl would be asking if he was a digimon if she hadn't noticed. The brunette's gaze went to her tamer, who kept rambling about how sorry they were. -Kath... -She uttered again. Katherine's green eyes widened, as she could imagine what was coming, just couldn't believe it. Just as she thought, Jazz raised her arm once again, this time pointing at the old man. -Digimon. -She uttered, plainly, once again. "What the...?" was literally what went through Katherine's mind at that instant.
OOC: Thank you Desmond Edmund for recoloring the old man <3

"Probably because the noise died down and we're...also kind of closer to him." Akemi whispered right back at Katherine, before she bowed with the girl. However, she was quick to notice that he wasn't paying much heed to them, if anything. A low "Huh." escaped her lips and she adjusted her hat.
Anzu nodded at Jazz. "...Mmhmm. Getting better with this whole noticing who's human and who's not thing..." And she was picking up on it -fast.- The only question was what kind? And what was he doing here?
They at least had excuses, but what about this guy? Anzu put her hands on her hips and made herself look as intimidating as she could, before she leaned forward. "So, who're you supposed to be, señor?" Akemi meanwhile just...nudged Kath on the side. "...I don't think it's that big of a deal."
She then fell silent at the phrase Digimon. Of course. That's their luck.

In all honesty, it didn't seem hard at all to identify digimons under a holosuit, and Anzu had caught the drift of it pretty quickly. Even when Jazz's methods about pointing it out could come as uncouth, at least it was a good thing to know who was a digimon or not right off the bat. The old man just stared at Anzu, taking his smoking pipe into his mouth again and raising his gaze towards her face. -Ummm... Yes, I can see you're one too, Misu. -Right after muttering this, the man just made his way out of the small room in the back, passing by the two digimons and tamers, and slowly walking towards the front door. Was this a joke? So this was a digimon too? Katherine just stared at the man, as she saw him walking across the place. -You're all definitely full of energy, aren't you? -He continued his way towards the entrance, just to close and lock the front door once he got there. -I suppose it is to be expected that more digimon appeared after the first one came.-Taking a sigh, the man continued. -I've been holding this form for a while, and to think I've had to take it off twice in the last few days... -Out of his pocket, the man took out a set of keys. The keychain seemed like a sphere-shaped toy; just by spinning the upper part of the sphere to the right with his left hand, a glow of light covered the elder's body, revealing some sort of blue dinosaur, of around twice the size of Katherine. The green-eyed stared at the creature, startled by its looks. -A V-dramon, huh? -Tilting her head, Jazz just stared at the beast, not being too amazed by his appearance. -You don't need to worry, Misu. I swear there's no one else in here. -Taking the pipe back to his now huge mouth, the digimon spoke; he still had the same voice as the old man of his holosuited form, a high-pitched one. -So please, go ahead.Without taking her eyes off the dinosaur, Katherine pulled out her digivice, and after pressing a couple of buttons, Jazz was engulfed in a white light too, showing a Lopmon once it faded.
