Originally, Jiro had been unsure to return to his "home". He said that, while most people there had been nice to him, there were bad memories attached to the place. But Otohime had insisted. She wanted to know where her best bud in the world had come from. Eventually, he relented, but insisted that Keiji and Masaki came along, as he felt safer with them around. Not one to deny her BFF any wish, Oto's Teach and his plant buddy promptly joined the sukeban onto their trip to the Hardware Den. For the old man, this was a once in a lifetime experience. While his facial expression remained calm and wizened as always, his eyes were positively sparkling when he saw the technologically advanced underground city full of Digimon, showing that relation goes beyond genes. "To think such a world existed adaject to ours this entire time, and we had been blind to them...walking karakuri, tsukomogami walking about...the world of yokai is so far beyond our own." "Dangit, old man, I keep telling you, they're Digimon!" "Perhaps, but they will always be yokai to me." The Alraumon just shrugged, and Otohime chuckled. "Damn, buddy, yer comin' from quite the snazzy place! I would never have guessed!" The Dracomon giggled nervously. "Ehehehehe...y-y-yeah, it's k-k-kinda fancy..." "So where's where ya lived at?" Jiro fell silent, looking at the ground. Otohime was rather confused by this. "UUuuuh, bud?" She looked to Keiji for guidance. The old man merely shook his head and crossed his arms before his chest. A clear signal to drop the subject. "Ah, nevermind, let's go get a drink or something!" "Ehehehe, yeah, I would like that..."
A short time later, the four were sitting in a nice underground cafe, enjoying machine made treats. Most cafes here catered to the inorganic crowd, but sometimes one needed to cater to tourists, too. Otohime was enjoying a large sundae with Jiro. "Aaaaaah, this ice cream stuff is almost as awesome as teach's melonpan!" Keiji, was was just enjoying a simple bowl of anmitsu, gave her a look. "Surely, my baking skills cannot be compared to the supernatural abilities of yokai." "Uuuuh yeah? They are? They totally are!" "Oh, you flatter me." Otohime laughed, and turned to Jiro. The dragon seemed rather uncomfortable, even with the big ice cream dish before him. "Hey, you ok, little guy?" "E-e-eh? Oh, y-y-yeah, I am, d-d-don't worry!" "You sure, bro?" Jiro said nothing more. Otohime decided to just hug him. The peaceful cafe atmosphere was soon broken up, as someone yelled "Stop him, he has my wallet!", and a Kokuwamon ran past the cafe holding a brown leather wallet. Before either Jiro or Keiji could react Otohime had already jumped up fast enough to throw the sundae off the table and ran after the thief. The old man could only sigh as he grabbed both Rookie level Digimon to give chase. Otohime chased the Kokuwamon down like a bloodhound, not even letting the sudden direction changes and creepy alleyways deter her. She yelled at him to drop the wallet, using expletive after expletive, until the Kokuwamon entered a door at the end of the alley. Otohime was too focussed to stop, and opened the door, the other three following closely. "Where the FUCK are you, thieving scum?!" Keiji let down Masaki and Jiro, taking a deep breath. "That is quite rich, coming from you of all people." The girl shot her teacher a nasty look, and systematically began checking the rooms of this building. It appeared to be abandoned, being full of empty crates, digital spider webs and various junk littering the wooden floor. It was dark, the only light coming in through the cracks in the boarded up windows. Still, Otohime kept looking around, kicking over crates and looking into hallways. Behind her, Jiro was shaking and shivering. This was enough to briefly break her hunting instincts. "Are you cold bro?" "Eh? Ah. n-n-n-no, this place is just...familiar, for some reason, and it gives me the creeps..." "Well, then we better grab that thief and get the hell outta here!" She stepped into an old, abandoned kitchen, and looked around. Keiji, Masaki and Jiro leant in through the hallway, with the old man narrowing his eyes. Something caught his eye. "Otohime, the fridge." The girl narrowed her eyes, and, indeed, the fridge was shaking. She stepped forth and flung the door open, revealing the shaking Kokuwamon. "Aha, there you are!" "Ah, l-l-l-leave me alone, you crazy human!" "Not a fucking chance, you thief!" She lunged forward to grab him, but the mechanical bug was faster, lunging in turn and shoving Otohime into the opposing wall. But...something clicked as she did. The room began to shake, and the wall began to turn. Before Otohime could voice her surprise, the two vanished behind the wall. Keiji and Jiro were baffled. "What just happened? Is this a hidden wall?" "I d-d-dunno, but we n-n-need to get to her, fast!" The three quickly checked the wall, and found the secret switch. It was pressed, and then they, too, vanished behind the wall.

As the wall turned, the three found themselves in a dimly lit hallway, and some distance away Otohime was sitting on the ground, holding her stomach. Jiro and Keiji stormed close, with Masaki close by. "Otohime. Otohime, are you alright?" "Urgh, yeah, stupid little fucker sucker-punched me and ran off. Guess the wallet is lost..." She got back up, and moved towards the wall. Masaku hurried ahead and tried to move it, but it would not budge. Neither of the four found a way to move the wall back. "Ah bloody heck, seems we're trapped. Guess we need to find another way out..." "Aw, fuck man, I got you all into this situation, I'm sorry..." Keiji put a hand on her shoulder. "You only acted out of a sense of justice. We shall find another way out." The girl sighed, and nodded. Together, they walked down the hallway, towards a brighter light.
The light, as it turned out, came from dim, white, sterile lights. The entire place seemed to be metal plated, with tiled floors. The air smelled acrid and chemical, and strange, big machines stood along the walls. This appeared to be some form of laboratory. "The fuck is this? Some kinda science place?" "I think they're called laboratories." "Y-y-yeah, they are, this place is...is..." The Dracomon froze as the realization kicked in. He began to breathe heavily, shaking in sheer, primal terror. Otohime quickly ran over, worried. "Dude! Hey dude! What's eatin' ya? Why are you so scared?" The Dracomon was hyperventilating, barely able to control his own lips to talk. "Th-th-th-th-this p-p-p-p- th-th-th-th-this p-p-p-p-p- this place is where i was born!!" The words echoed hollowly through the metallic hallways as the others were struck silent. Otohime just looked at her friend. "Uuuuh, what?" "Th-th-this place...th-this is where I was born, w-w-where my parents...they...they used me for experiments...they didn't care about me...they threw me out..." Otohime had no idea what all of this meant, but she didn't care. She just hugged her friend. "Look, I don't get it, but I know that if I ever meet your parents I'm gonna kick their asses to the moon, ok? Your parents ain't here, or else we woulda heard them by now, ok? And even if they are, I'll protect you!" Jiro knew that that was impossible. His parents were too strong. But he could not say that to that sweet smile his Tamer was giving him. And maybe she was right. If his parents had been here, it wouldn't be so dimly lit. He gulped, nodded, and tried to smile. "Y-y-y-yeah, maybe you're right, maybe they're not here...l-l-l-let's just hurry and find a way out!" "That's my bro! Come on, I'll be buyin' ya a huge bag of chocolate once we're back home!" With that, she lifted up her partner and carried him as the group went on looking through the hallways, seeking an exit. Eventually, however, they came upon a large hall, dim phosphorescent light reflecting off dozens of glass tanks, each filled with an opaque green liquid. Masaki visibly retched. "Ewwww, this is gross! The hell were they even doing in here?" "I do not know, but we have not found any other exit way in the hallways behind us. Maybe there is one on the other side of this hall." As they crossed the hallway, the lights suddenly flared up, bathing the room in a sterile light. The group winced in surprise, especially when a figure stepped from behind one of the tanks. A tall, metallic humanoid, easily three times as tall as Otohime was. It was clad in golden armor, its arms a red bundle of cables, on its head two horns resembling mandibles. Purple lines decorated its chestpiece, and blue lights glowed on its palms and knees. It was wearing a labcoat, and held the struggling Kokuwamon in one hand. It gazed down at the group with cold, disdainful eyes, with Jiro hiding behind Otohime. "Ah, it would appear more vermin has infested my sacred halls of science. Who are you? How did you get in here?" The four were stunned by the giant Metalife Kuwagamon, but Otohime was the first to regain her bearings. "That's none of your business! We just wanna get outta here!" The giant robot bug's eyes flashed red briefly at Otohime's words. "Why, first you barge into my laboratory, and then you have the nerve to be rude to me? I guess some people do have no self-preservation instinct..." His attention wandered, and his eyes rested upon the orange Dracomon. "You." His voice was dripping with distaste and disgust. "How did you even survive? We flushed you out of the system when you refused to work as intended. You have the gall to still live? To carry about the resources we used to make you without returning them to nature where they belong? I knew I should have terminated you myself." Jiro said nothing, he was too terrified. Otohime, now full of anger, pulled out her bat and ran at the Metalife Kuwagamon. "YOU DON'T FUCKING TALK LIKE THAT ABOUT MY BUDDY YOU PIECE OF SHI-" Her words were cut off as the giant Digimon effortlessly swatted her aside like a fly, sending her skidding across the metal floor. Both Keiji and Jiro reached out in shock. "Otohime! "R-r-r-ryuko, no!" Jiro then turned towards the MetalifeKuwagamon. "L-l-l-l-listen, I d-d-don't care what you do to me, b-b-but you d-d-don't hurt my friend, dad!" The word hung in the air, echoing from the walls in a hollow, metallic manner. The Metalife Kuwagamon, Jiro's father, stared at the Dracomon, then he began to laugh. A simple, humourless chuckle that slowly devolved into a fit. "Oh my, is that bravado I sense within you? You manage to persuade a human that you are not worthless and suddenly you think you can oppose me? Very well. I shall humour you. Prove to me you're not as useless as I think youi are, and I might just reward you." He pulled out a little electrode from his labcoat pocket, and affixed it to the Kokuwamon's forehead. Electricity ran across its body as it began to scream. Jiro's father set it down, and its screams of pain slowly devolved into animalistic growls as its body began to contort and twist, flesh bursting out of the metal as it was forcibly transformed. At the end of it's transformation, it had become a Kuwagamon X, its green, raw flesh laying open on its arms and legs, its old Kokuwamon carapace barely covering parts of its head and back, and its maw constantly drooling acid which sizzled as it hit the ground. Jiro flinched at the sight. "Behold. Artificially induced Digivolution, my magnum opus! Go, little dragon, and show me if you can survive." With a deafening roar, the Kuwagamon X then lunged at the dragon.

Jiro gaped as the mutated bug jumped at him, and only barely managed to avoid its pincers, with Keiji and Masaki jumping away to the other side. They quickly ran towards the downed Otohime as Jiro gathered flame in his mouth. "Flare!" The small nova hit the Kuwagamon X and exploded, causing it to screech. Under normal circumstances, it would not be able to feel this, but with the raw, open flesh, even a Rookie attack hurt it. But it also enraged it. It coughed up acid, and spat the glob at Jiro. The Dracomon managed to dodge, but the smoldering crater left behind as the acid impacted left him stunned and paralyzed by fear.
Once Masaki and Keiji reached Otohime laying on the ground, covered in friction burns from the skidding, they tried to wake her up. Keiji gently shook her while Masaki held his flower into her face. "Otohime, please, wake up!" "Yeah! Your little buddy is in trouble!" As if these words were a magic incantation, the girl began to stir. Her eyes flicked open, and she sat up immidiately. Keiji had to force her back down. "Easy now, easy now, that attack was something else, you need to rest." However, she fought back against Keiji's arms, and got up. "How...can I rest...when my lil' buddy...is in deep shit!" With one movement, she threw off the old man's hands and ran towards Jiro. Keiji tried to go after her, but Masaki held her back. "Hey, easy now, old man! This is a Tamer thing, trust me! We should trust her to not get herself killed!" "That is exactly what I am worried about, Masaki." Regardless, the old man stayed back was Otohime joined Jiro's side, staring down the giant bug. Jiro turned towards her. "R-r-r-ryuko-san?" Otohime gave him a grin. "Ya think I'm gonna leave my buddy behind? No, fuck that! We're gonna take this ugly fucker down!" She stared down the raving giant insect, as it charged at the two. Grabbing Jiro, Otohime rolled aside. Once she got back up, she grabbed her Digivice. "Listen here ya ugly motherfucker! As long as me 'n my buddy are together, nothing can beat us! Ready, Jiro?" The Dracomon blinked, then smiled and nodded. "I t-t-trust you!" With that, she nodded, and focused on her Digivice. Jiro was bathed in light, his glowing from stretching and growing, until the light dissipated and revealed his digivolved form: Greymon. His father's eyes briefly flashed blue as he saw this. The freshly digivolved Greymon looked down briefly at his own claws, mouthing a "wow...", and then looked back up at the Kuwagamon X. "O-o-o-ok, you! Sh-sh-show me what you can do!" The roaring beast then lunged at him one more time, its mind nothing more than bestial aggression, and tried to bite him. But this time Jiro caught the insect's hands, and held against it as they skidded backwards. Now, at this close range, he electrified his horns and sent currents of electricity through his opponent. "H-h-hah! Horn Spark!" The beast screamed in pain, its raw flesh growing grey with electrical burns. Eventually it slammed its pincers shut around Jiro, spat acid into his face and then threw him into one of the machines. Green liquid poured out, data fragments rising up from it as it flowed. With a nasty acid burn, Jiro nonetheless rose. "Jiro! Are you alright?!", Otohime called out in worry. The Greymon managed to give her a pained smile. "H-h-h-hey, with Ryuko-san at my side, I cannot lose!" He then took on a battle stance, and ran towards the giant insect. The lumbering beast roared as he approached, and prepared to grab him in its pincers, but Jiro jumped aside before breathing fire at it! The beast screamed once more, falling to its knees. Propping itself up with its lower arms, it was breathing heavily, clearly in terrible pain. Jiro actually hesitated, walking towards the insect. "A-a-are you ok?" The Kuwagamon X looked up at him...roared in fury and then slammed its pincers around him, the serrated edges digging into his flesh, trying to squeeze him to death. Jiro hissed in pain. "Jiro! Watch out! You gotta take it out!" The pained Greymon opened one eye, staring his opponent down. Behind its eyeless gaze was not a shred of coherent thought left. As the serrated edges dug deeper and deeper into his flesh, he opened his mouth, and gathered flame. "Ghnnnn...Mega...Flare...!" The nova was spat at the Kuwagamon X, which let go of Jiro as the sheer pain made it scream once more. As the nova burned away the last remains of flesh, the giant bug collapsed, crumbling into data. An egg briefly appeared in its place before it was whisked away, to the Village of Beginnings. Jiro was panting from exertion, while Otohime ran towards him and hugged his leg. "You did it! You won! You're awesome!" He coughed, and chuckled nervously. "Ehehehe, it was no biggie." Now that the danger was over, Keiji and Masaki joined the two, the old man nodding. "Yes, that was splendid, good work." The elated victory mood was interrupted by clapping. Jiro's father had stepped closer, applauding sarcastically. "My my, it would appear you have actually won. You have exceeded my expectations. Which were zero, admittedly, but nonetheless, you get an A for effort." Jiro stood in front of the others, shielding them. "Ok, enough now, Dad! We won! Now give us that reward and let us go!" The Metallife Kuwagamon laughed, briefly and humourlessly. "I most certainly did promise you a reward, but I never said I would let you go." Before Jiro could react, his father placed another electrode on Jiro's forehead. "Your reward is that you get to become the weapon you were always meant to be." Electricity then ran through Jiro's body as he screamed. Otohime tried to run at him, but this time both Masaki and Keiji kept her back. "JIRO! NO! YOU MUST FIGHT IT!" "Rghghhhhnnn, Ryuko...rrrrrun!" The Greymon's voice was pained as his body began to shift, red exoskeleton growing over his legs, two insectoid arms growing out of the wounds left behind by the Kuwagamon X's squeezing attack, his eyes vanishing into nothing as carapace grew over his helmet. Red data emerged as wings burst from his back and mandibles burst from his mouth. His bones cracked audibly as his body shape changed to be more theropodian. And all the while, Jiro's screams were turning into bestial screeching. Soon, Jiro collapsed, having become a grotesque fusion of Greymon and Kuwagamon, before lumbering back to his feet. His father sighed. "Your bug genes came through? Ah, you were a failure, after all. But even your pitiful potential should be enough to rid us of this vermin." Jiro then turned towards the three, drooling and growling low. "Jiro! Snap out of it! SNAP OUT OF IT!" Jiro's father laughed. "Your friend is not among us any more. And soon, you will not, either. Now then, Dinobeemon-Alter, rid us of these rats!" With a movement of his father's hands, Jiro charged at his former tamer.

Otohime stared, not believing what she was seeing. Her little buddy had become a giant monster, and was lumbering towards her. "L-l-l-little buddy? Come on, I know you're still in there!" It appeared like the beast hesitated for a second, but a hand movement from the Metalife Kuwagamon made it roar and charge at Otohime. Too stunned and shocked, she could not move! And she would have surely been trampled, if not for the intervention of Masaki and Keiji. The Alraumon used his long tendrils to pull Otohime to safety, seing the Jiro beast into another container of green liquid. The girl struggled, demanding to be let down, but Masaki made sure to put her down behind Keiji. The old man, on the other hand, turned to Jiro's father, arms crossed, giving of an aura of pure anger. "Have you got no shame? To treat your own flesh and blood like a thing for you to use as you please? To bring such harm upon the one that your bloodline brought forth? You disgust me." The giant Digimon looked down at the tiny man, then guffawed loudly. "You think you can chide -me-, Human? I could squish you like an ant if I wanted. You are nothing to me." Keiji did not budge. "And -you- are nothing to -me-." A flash of red through the Metalife Kuwagamon's eyes showed that this display of defiance ticked the scientist off. With a movement of his hand, he brought the Jiro monster back to his feet. "Rid the world of this refuse." Even as the beast tried to resist, the electric shocks coming from the electrode on its chest drove it mad with pain, making it charge. Keiji turned to Masaki, and nodded. The Alraumon nodded back, and stepped in front of the old man. A white, spirit-like aura engulfed both! Keiji then pulled out a prayer bead, and assumed a prayer stance. "I hereby grant you my spirit energy. Go, and calm the quiet beast, grand plant spirit!" The white aura engulfed Masaki, and his shape changed, growing bigger and more quadruped, until he rematerialized as a Petaldramon. Both Otohime and Jiro's father were amazed by this turn of events. Keiji had no Digivice, yet Masaki had managed to digivolve? How? How did this work? The giant plant dragon reared on its back legs, and stopped the charge of Jiro, skidding backwards briefly. "Come on, Jiro, snap out of it! He can't do that to you!" Jiro snarled, snapped his mandibles and produced a nova between them. The nova exploded between them, throwing both of them backwards. Otohime turned to her teacher. "Please, teach, don;t hurt Jiro!" The old man was deep in concentration. "I...am trying." Petaldramon Masaki soon rose from the ruins of the machine he had slammed into, groaning in pain. Jiro, likewise, rose from the wreckage. "Oof, you pack quite a punch, but I won't let you hurt anyone!" As his father commanded him to once more, Jiro charged at the old man and his child, but he was tackled by Masaki. The Petaldramon ensnared him in roots, causing him to screech in pain and fury. Masaki was wincing as the wild thrashing of the Dinobeemon was hurting his roots, slowly tearing them apart. "I...dunno how much longer I can hold 'im, boss!" "Focus on tiring him out, then we can go after the controller." "Hah, I do not think so." The MetalifeKuwagamon's palm closed, and Jiro roared, his muscles expanding so sudden and immensely that they tore through his skin in places. Red data began to rise from the wounds as the roots were obliterated. The beast, now growling in pain and blind rage, had to support itself on its secondary pair of arms. "Argh!" "Give it up, your "friend" no longer exists. I am in full control over his body. You are only going to get yourself killed." To demonstrate, he had Jiro send a lightning bolt through Masaki. The Petaldramon gritted its teeth and groaned in pain. All of this was getting too much for Otohime to endure. Her best friend was being tortured and forced to attack, and Masaki was taking the brunt force of it all for them! She could no longer hold back. In spite of her friction burns, she grabbed her bat, and ran into the fray. "Otohime, wait, no!!" The old man's voice was full of fear and concern, but Otohime did not listen. She had to save her friend! Petaldramon and Dinobeemon were locked in combat again, each trying to bite at the other. Otohime took a spot close to Jiro, and yelled up at him. "Jiro, dude, come on! I know you're in there! You're strong, bro! You can shake off this creep's control!" The beast roared, and his father just chuckled. "Blind optimism. How cute. But pointless. My electrodes are perfect. Observe." He raised his hand. "Crush this insect." Jiro growled, turned away from Petaldramon, and toward Otohime. With slow steps, the beast lumbered towards her. She did not move an inch. "Fuck that! Jiro is stronger than you you fucking bastard! Come on Jiro! Remember all the cool times we had!" The Dinobeemon's steps slowed, but with a closing of the palm the electroshocks forced it forward. It created a nova between its mandibles, ready to spit it. Keiji reached out to the girl. "Child! Move! It's too dangerous!" She did not move. She held her ground. Tears were flowing down her face, but she showed no fear. She just stared right into her partner's eyes. "Bro! I believe in you! You have the power to be yourself! I don't care if that fucker grew you in a lab! You're yourself! Come on, bro! Resist him!" The beast growled, the nova still between its mandibles. His father grew impatient. "What are you waiting for, you imbecile? Eradicate that vermin!" One more electroshock, one more scream of pain, and the beast did as told. It threw the nova right at the vermin. Right at his father. The Metalife Kuwagamon had no opportunity to dodge, having been too surprised by the sudden resistance to anticipate this. Jiro fell to his knees, panting, his growls slowly turning back to words. "R...r....ryuko-san...I...did it..." Keiji and Masaki were both baffled, but Otohime just jumped in joy and hugged her partner. "I knew it all this time! Yer too strong to just let some asshat control you!" She rubbed her face against the cracked head carapace of her partner. Jiro managed a little chuckle. "Hehehe, I...I really was...huh?" The smoke cleared from where the nova had impacted. The body of Metalife Kuwagamon laid there, twitching, its metal armor showing cracks, his arms smoking. The direct hit had done immense damage. Both the Petaldramon and Dinobeemon now stood over him, glaring down at him. Keiji and Otohime stood before them, with Keiji rubbing his daughter's head. "I am so proud of you." She smiled at him, then glared at Jiro's father. "Ok, time's up for you, fucko! We're gonna wipe you off the face off the earth!" Metalife Kuwagamon looked up at them, back and forth, and then...began to laugh. Low first, then erupting into hysteric, psychotic giggling. "What, you think you've won? You think you beat me? I am more intelligent than you can possibly imagine! I already planned for this! There is a dead man's switch in my digicore that will detonate my electrodes when I die! You think I would just let my rebellious creations survive!?" He put his hands to the sides of his head. "I'll just be reborn in the Village of Beginnings and continue! But that abomination will fade into nothingness! Enjoy the fireworks!~" Then, with one swift movement, he snapped his own neck. Two seconds later, a loud explosion and a scream from Jiro made everyone turn around. His chest, where the electrode had been affixed, had exploded open. His fractured Digicore laid bare, slowly dissolving as he fell. "NO!!!" Otohime immidiately ran to the side of her partner as he hit the ground. Behind them, his father dissolved into data, an egg slowly appearing in his place before it vanished. Jiro was noiw laying on his side, coughing, red data evaporating from his chest and mouth. Starting at his wings, his slowly began to dissolve into data. Otohime shook him. "Jiro! Jiro no! Jiro, come on, you're stronger than that! This can't be the end!" The mortally wounded Digimon coughed, but managed to turn his head towards his tamer, smiling weakly. "R...ryuko-san...th...thank you...for believing in me...th...thank you...for making my life...wonderful...as short as it was...I'll...never forget you...goodbye..." With that, his head dropped back down, limp. The dissolution of his body sped up, and soon there was nothing left of Jiro but glistering data mist. No egg, no body parts, nothing. Otohime wordlessly stared at the spot where her partner had laid until now. Keiji and the de-digivolved Masaki approached her from behind. "Otohime..." Keiji said nothing more. He merely embraced his child from behind, holding her tightly. Masaki, too hugged her from the side. Slowly, the realization kicked in. Tears began to roll down the girl's face. More and more. She began to sob, and eventually devolved into wails of anguish. She had lost her partner, her best buddy. And there was nothing she could have done to stop it. The three remained that way for a long time, neither Keiji nor Masaki pushing the girl to calm down. Let it all out, her teacher would say. Eventually, Otohime would collapse and fall asleep from the sheer strain and exhaustion. Wordlessly, her teacher picked her up, and carried her, seeking and finding an elevator back to the surface. It was in the same room as they had fought in. Sometimes, life could be cruel. But all you could do was to pick up the pieces, and keep on going. The next few weeks would be a hard time.
