Going inland meant going into a rather foreboding forest. Something that Naoko was, in all honesty, not prepared for after the last time she had entered a menacing-seeming forest had ended with...
Let's not get into that.
"...And here I was, thinking we reached the legal limit of 'foreboding' back at the de-" "Ti, can you not?" Naoko silenced the Crossmon as she hopped down and began to proceed inwards. With the metallic behemoth in tow, of course. It was kind of clear that they weren't the first to come here. There had been a beaten DemiDevimon...That was pretty weird.
Yet, it was clear. They were on a trail but they kept missing Otohime. Where was she? She had to stop eventually, right? They both kept searching and following whatever traces the girl left.
This was quite worrying.

There was plenty of evidence that Otohime had passed through here. Broken plant stems, footprints in the muck, blood on the thorns...it seems that she had just waltzed right through, uncaring of what was in her way. So much blood was bound to attract unwanted attention...
...Indeed, as Otohime left the forest, and came upon a river, she was stopped in her tracks by a large shadow rushing at her, growling. She rolled aside, narrowly avoiding it. The shadow turned out to be a hungry Fangmon. And it wasn't alone. Soon, more rushed from the undergrowth by the riverbank, surrounding the sukeban, licking their chops over the morsel they had cornered. Otohime showed no fear, instead just brandishing her bat. "What the fuck makes you think you can stop me, huh!?"

The more blood that Koko found, the larger her worry seemed to get. It was bad enough that what happened with Haru was still a recent memory. It was worse that she and Ryuko were so close. It seemed to make this sting worse. Naoko's walk soon enough turned into a sprint. A careless one, at that.
Titania was not able to really keep up too easily thanks to the cramped space this was. So...She was lagging behind. Quite a bit. Naoko's sprint came to an abrupt end as she reached the end of the forest and found herself at a river. There Otohime was...facing down a pack of Fangmon.
Titania told her enough stories of how bad those were already, and she was planning to face them with a bat? What was she even THINKING? As Titania caught up, the metallic behemoth emerging from the forest, Naoko just...shouted at the top of her lungs. "WATANABE OTOHIME, YOU FUCKING DUMBASS, WHAT'RE YOU DOING?"
Quite honestly? She looked hysterical.

Despite being surrounded by a whole pack of Champion level Digimon, and her lower trouser legs having shredded revealing a bloody mess of cut skin, Otohime showed no fear. She felt Jiro was close. She would not fail now. Not when she's so close! She gritted her teeth. "The fuck makes you think you can stop me?! Bring it on!" The sheer tenacity and confidence of their prey made the Fangmon hesitate. This was not what they were used to. Most prey was terrified by the number advantage. But this morsel still had guts. It was this hesitation that allowed Naoko to catch up. When she yelled, the Fangmon turned, and immediately froze in fear. They were looking at a Mega level Digimon. One that radiated holy energy. That thing could kill them with ease! Otohime narrowed her eyes when she heard the yelling. Up there was Naoko, of all people! "Naoko!? The hell you're doing here? It's fucking dangerous here!"

The Crossmon slowly lifted her right arm--it was immediately visible that it's arm was different than most others of it's kind. Namely, why the fuck did she have what seemed to be the gauntlet of a Meicrackmon fused onto it? "Nobody move or the big one gets it." Titania hissed.
She was -very- serious, to put it lightly. Indeed, the Daughter of the Sun and the Sea was not in a good mood right now. Naoko snapped right back at Otohime. "I'm here to make sure I don't lose another person close to me to some DUMB ANIMALS from the Dark Area! What the hell are YOU doing here?!" Hysterical bled into pissed, it appears.

The Fangmon recoiled at the sight of the arm. A few of them growled and snapped, but then the pack collectively showed more intelligence than most things in the wilderness of the Dark Area did: They ran away, with their tail between their legs.
Well, all except one. This foolish individual figured it could get away with the morsel before the giant holy bird could react, and turned around to charge at Otohime open-mouthed within the blink of an eye. This morsel, however, would have nothing of this. Unleashing a growl one would expect from a rottweiler and not a human, Otohime rolled aside, then grabbed a hold of the Fangmon's fur and pulled herself up onto its back, holding on tight with one hand while bashing her bat against its skull with the other. This did little to no damage, but served to seriously disorient and confuse the Fangmon, which tried in vain to snap at her legs to pull her off. "I'm here for Jiro! And I will not leave without him!"

And of course, one of the dogs just had to bite. Titania kept her arm trained at the single Fangmon that remained and had tried it's damndest to attack and eat Otohime--however, of all the people to be prepared for such a thing, neither Naoko or Titania expected the sukeban to be ready for the attack of a Fangmon.
In fact, they were just staring dumbfounded at that for more than a few seconds. "...Otohime, wouldn't he be at the village of beginnings or something?!" Sheee didn't know the full of what had happened. Meanwhile, Titania simply stepped forward, reached down...And attempted to clench a claw around the Fangmon's snout. Basically, muzzling it. With her hand. It was swift!

The Fangmon was too busy trying to shake Otohime off that it did not notice Titania's advance. Only when the claw closed around its muzzle did it notice. It looked up at the Crossmon, its ears folding back. It was frozen with fear, and evidently well aware it had effed up badly. Otohime slid off the Fangmon when it froze, and hissed in pain when she landed on her badly lacerated legs. She then supported herself on her bat. "No...no he won't be...his data was too messed up...when his dad killed him he made a point of it...and when he died...he just faded...no egg left behind..." Recalling this brought the tears back into her eyes.

"Now, now, I know you may be filled with the fear of god, but I will be merciful just this once. This human--and the one you tried to murder just now are under my protection. Attack them again, and I will eradicate you without a second thought. Now, go home and think about what you've done." The Crossmon snarled, before...she just HURLED the Fangmon away. It'd hopefully survive. Hopefully.
Naoko had to calm herself a bit to listen to Otohime. There were parts of the story that she was unaware of, sure, but she learned enough. "...Oh...Then...Why are you here?" She asked, rushing over to offer some support to Otohime.

The Fangmon whimpered, and let out a pathetic yowl as it flew across the pitch black sky. It had learned to not attack humans willy nilly anymore.
Otohime, using both her bat and Naoko's support to get closer to the river, stopped and raised the bat to point out onto said river. "He's there! Out there! I feel it! I feel his soul! I know it!" She pulled out her Digivice, and held it into Nao's face. Indeed, the dead screen occasionally flickered to life. That's not what the Digivice of a dead Digimon did. "I can't leave him there! I promised I won't let anything keep us apart!"

A lesson best applied via throwing a giant red dog across the sky. Titania's form turned towards the two girls. "...None of them actually hurt you, did they? Those wounds...They're from the forest, right?" She was genuinely just trying to make sure she had everything straight. Kind of.
Naoko was about to ask how the heck that was possible before Otohime pulled out her digivice. Indeed, the screen flickered. Indeed, this was by no means normal. "...I'm going to be honest, I don't know what's going on. But I'm not gonna leave you alone. Your dad's hoping I can bring you home safely, so...I guess we'll help you look for him."
...Seems simple enough.

Otohime scowled at the word "Dad". "My da-" Her expression then brightened up. "Ooooh, you mean Teach. He's worried about me? I thought he wouldnt even notice if I left..." Still, she had a small smile on her face. She must appreciate her teacher's care. Despite having slowed down to a hobbling pace, Otohime kept on moving, led by sensations only she could sense. Eventually, they came upon a pier, of all things. There was a box with a bell on it, and someone had written "Please ring for the ferryman" on a sign. Otohime looked out over the river. "He's...he's out on the river, I can feel it...

"Yeah. That's who I meant. He was...really worried. Worried enough to give me a charm from the Meiji shrine itself. Praying for success. And it was Masaki who noticed--he's really worried about you too." That didn't change the fact this was probably one of, if not the weirdest way to cope with your partner's death.
Seeking whatever's left of him out in what was basically the digital variant of hell. Naoko just shook her head and kept her focus on keeping Otohime upright. "Easy, easy..." With Titania accompanying, the Crossmon degenerating into her Shutumon form--and retaining the gauntlet on her right hand.
Upon reaching the pier, Naoko gazed out unto the river. "...Well, if we're heading there, might as well ring for the ferryman." She headed on over to the bell and rang it.

The sonorous sound of the bell rang over the misty river. At first, nothing appeared to happen, but then the mist parted, with a ship slowly making its was towards the pier. At the rudder stood a tall, cloaked figure. As it drew closer, both of them could see that it was...a Daemon. A Daemon, wearing a body concealing cloak, only its head visible. Said head had the horns cut down to stumps, and a scar covering one of its eyes. As the boat reached the pier he stopped, and looked over the two, looking at Titania not with fear, but with concerned attention, as if he was well aware of the danger she could pose to him. He scratched his chin. "Humans? Here? Are you lost? I can bring you back to the coast, where you can get back home." Otohime, utterly unaware of what was standing before her, gave the Daemon a sour look. "Hell no! I'm not leaving! I'm looking for my friend! He's out there on the river! I wanna save him!" The Daemon raised an eyebrow...and looked at Naoko with a very "Is she serious?" expression. Within these few seconds, this Daemon already did not act like the Demon Lord of Wrath at all.

Titania was immediately defensive when the Daemon appeared. Unlike Naoko? She was more than aware of what the Seven Demon Lords were. Though this was likely not -the- Daemon? It was an incarnation of the sin of Wrath all the same. And nobody wished to be on the receiving end of a Daemon.
And she was silent, too. The fact this entity wasn't...acting much like a demon? That perplexed her. That perplexed Naoko, too. "...She's...plenty serious, sir. Her friend's spirit may actually be on the river and...she kind of won't leave until she finds him."
Strange as it was? It was the truth.
