Not What it Seemed [Mission]

As Justice picked himself back up, it was becoming clear to him that this mission had more implications than he originally thought. He paid attention to more of what Yuuki had to say, making sure that each word that came out of his mouth became etched in his head. As Yuuki finished and the others made their way to the lift, the sound of an espionage mission made him excited. He had played a lot of Metal Gear Solid to know how this mission would play out.
"Don't worry, you can count on us. We'll make sure that no incidents happens that would affect the mission and damage our world's relationship with the Digital World's. Isn't that right you two?" He looked at Gummy especially as he said that.
"Yep!" Vee said cheerfully, adjusting his scarf so it would fit around his neck.
"Why are you staring at me?"
"Remember that incident with Connor?"
Gummy put his finger over his mouth, giving him a glare that told Justice to not discuss about it any further. The three said their goodbyes and followed Alan and John onto the lift. As they got there, a thought came to the Tamer; about Digimon being more than just partners. He took out his D-Watch and starred at it. It was already clear to him that Vee and Gummy were more than just partners. For the few weeks he got to know them, he started to see them as his best friends, despite their mischievous personalities.
"By the way," he jumped up in question, "How come you two never told me that you can evolve to a new level?"
"Uhhh, we thought you would be scared of us if you did."
"Ae you kidding me? It's hella badass that you guys can do that!"
Veemon put an arm around his head, blushing in response and put his scarf over his mouth. "Ahh shucks."

The lift would soon bring the whole team back up to the first floor. When they return, Jill was waiting to open the door for them. Once all of them finally settled down from whatever discomfort they might felt from the room ascending again and ready to get out, she would stop one of them. "If one of you still have one of the candy, give it to an Erismon there after he greets you and tell you his name is Alro. He's your client, and he will understand immediately. May the favor be with you."
The journey to the shop most likely would be uneventful. Once they arrived to the said shop, they would see an Erismon doing his calculation on the counter, seem to checking stocks now and then. His eyes sometimes wander about the front door... and the other side of the road where large crowds are forming. It's far enough for the people to not spot him easily, but he definitely looked worried about the crowd. Once the three humans and their digimons appeared, he put aside his calculation to greet them.
"Oh! Hello customers! My name is Alro, anything I can do to help you?"

John shoot his partner a look, after Jill explained them the how to inform the next client about their intention and Shepard understood, giving his partner one of the last candys he had with him. During these few minutes, he had managed to chew down almost an entire bucket off candy and John knew that his partner would have stomach ache from hell in a few hours. But for the moment this didn't matter, They said goodbye to Jill and went on their way to Alros shop nothing really happend, except for Shepard letting out a horrible, BBQ-flavoured fart, which probably broke the Geneva Convention and caused water to shoot into Johns eyes. The store was nice and clean and John went in as fast possible, afraid that Shepards horrible gases would also enter, if the door was open longer than absolutely necessary. Arlo greeted them friendly and after also introducing themself, John slide him the last Candy across the counter. "We are here because of this." John said in a casual and friendly voice and a moment later, a visibly uncomfortable Shepard asked "Do you have a customer restroom?".

Since Alan had noticed that Justice, Veemon, and Gumdramon had also taken on the request, he had been waiting for a good chance to speak with him. This chance could have been at any time throughout the walk to the store, but the one he chose to take was a few minutes after the group had already left the café. Once he had a convenient opening by his own unspoken standards, he casually moved in closer and spoke to him.
"Hey, Justice! Noticed you were here a while ago, but didn't see a good chance to talk to you, so, since we might not get that many more chances to talk until the mission's over, or maybe we will, I don't know, I just wanted to say hi."
Alan felt slightly bad that he wasn't paying any mind to the other tamer on the mission; they would all be working together for the same goal, after all. However, not too long after, he was given a perfectly valid reason to keep his distance for the time being.
He and Levi stepped into the store with the others. When asked by Alro if they could be helped, the young man had Levi hand him a piece of candy, which he then placed under his hand on the counter, sliding it over to the other side before removing his hand.
"Just browsing," he said. "Thank you, though."

Justice turned towards Alan as the group started to walk towards their next destination. He started to wonder when Alan would notice him, but since they were undergoing the mission briefing, it probably wasn't appropriate for social formalities.
"It's nice to see you too, dude! Now this mission got a little bit more exciting now that we're here. And just because we're on this mission doesn't mean we can't talk to one another. Heck, I was beginning to wonder when ya'll were gonna talk, especially the dude and his Digimon that's with us. I'd reckon he's not very social."
After a few minutes, the group finally reached their destination at Arlo's shop. After being greeted by the hedgehog Digimon, Justice and Veemon couldn't help but let out an aww sound, telling him that he was so cute. Gumdramon, after placing a piece of candy on the table and sliding it to the Erismon, flew up to Justice's face with his arms crossed.
"Hey, what about me?! I'm the cutest one around here!" he said proudly.
"Yeah, but you're anything but cute personality wise."
Gumdramon rolled his eyes at him, browsing the store.

Putrid gas, god. Some Digimon on the road just had to walk away from the offending smell, and thankfully, Alro was spared from such smell. One poor Garurumon in particular just gagged the moment his nose assaulted by the offending odor. Seeing just how bad it is, the Erismon immediately pointed to the sign.
"Please take can of air freshener while you're at it."
Well, this is not how he expected to start with his hired workers. He just hope that it's not diarrhea or he might have to dock some payment to clean up his restroom. But at any rate, he decided to face the rest.
"Well, while waiting our friend in the toilet, thank you for coming to my aid. Once again I'm Alro, and... well, I'm curious about this shady business of selling digimentals. I have no idea how they came, but one day, somewhere across my store I saw them, people who promoting their wares. Imagine my surprise when I heard they're selling Digimentals! Is it genuine, is it a counterfeit? I had no idea, but I feel like they're very... fishy you know?
The board of merchants also wondered why could they enter the market just like that, but apparently there is no complaints so far, so I guess I can't say anything... but even so, I'm really curious! Way too curious for my own good! This is where you came, friends. Here, take these. These pins are hidden camera, and we also have hidden microphone. You can take any of my ware to assist you in your spying, but I guess there is not too many stuff here... only accessories and warm muffler...
Ah, right... So... please don't let it out that I'm the one who hired you and... don't let yourself found out by the people there that you're spying. I feel like humans are slightly alarming point for them. After all you guys are supposed to get your own Digimentals naturally. it haven't been proven otherwise. But maybe if you can lower their guard...
...Any question for now?"

"Please excuse my partner, he has his kinks from time to time." John didn't even dare to imagine the horrors Shepard was just unleashing on that poor toilet. He took the pin with the hidden camera, cool little thing, if he wasn't doing this mission, he'd probably spent the next few hours dismantling this little wonder of technology. But well, not that the time for this. The explanation left little to be desired for him, so he didn't ask anymore questions, also because Shepard now caught his attention again. Visibly ashamed the little dragon soldiers placed the airfresher can back on the counter and mumbled "The cans empty now, also there is no more toilet paper on your toilet. Its not clogged, but you should pour a bottle of pipe cleanser into it, just to be sure." The Commandramon returned to his partner side, still smelling a little but at least no longer letting out WMD farts.

All three of them shook their heads, understanding the mission at hand. Justice in the meantime, took a minute to examine the pin that was given to all of them. Not only it was a camera, but had a build-in microphone as well. His mind raced at the thought of seeing what kinds of technology made this little thing. These types of things you only see agents in the CIA or FBI wear, so no doubt that whatever powered these things were expensive to make.
"Do we get to keep these after we're done?" he question, "Because I would love to use some of the material to use for a future project."
Vee turned his head up in surprise. "As in project you mean that grappling hook?"
"Bingo." Justice replied. "Y'all know I've been stuck making the calibrations on how fast the velocity of the hook needs to reach so it can stick to a surface. Maybe something I need is in a little thing like this."
Gummy quickly jumped in front of the two to get their attention, covering his nose with one hand. "Your talk on being Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man is great and all, but can we hurry up and start the mission." He turned his attention to Alro. "Because no offensive to you, the smell of gas is making me nauseous."

"Well, I'm not sure how good are fabrics in this store, I admit," Alro commented. "If you want to undo them for making a rope for grappling hook be my guest, but... well, how to say... if it comes to the spy camera with build in microphone I would have to ask you to return it to me without fail. If they're broken, oh well. If they're stolen however, I'd have to hire bunch of mercenaries to hunt you guys or the culprit. Now that would be a bit too much wouldn't it? The reason is because it's something in development you see. But it's not a thing that can be sold in market just yet. It's something of a minor artifact."
Admittedly, smell of gas also made him nauseous, so Alro mentally note to also call some toilet cleaner just in case. Who knows Wannyan Candies can be such a lethal weapon? At any rate...
"Alright, I have sent you the map of the location where the digimental sellers are. They're very close, but I think it will be beneficial if you assess the situation first. I suggest to not return to this store repeatedly as it will cause some suspicions, but one or two times with the right period should be fine."
According to the map, the vendors are three shops to the left when they came out from the shop. It's across the street. It's very near to a four way intersection. Buildings nearby includes a small restaurant five stores to the left of this store that according to Alro have one seat positioned close enough to the window to spy on the vendor, but most likely won't be a free entry. Another building nearby is a small fruit kiosk on the same side of the road, one store away from the digimental vendor. A building directly to the front of it is a hotel, but is noted to be a rather blind spot unless one rent a room high enough to spy them. Any other building is noted to be non-business, a warehouse, or something that is illegal to be entered without any permit.
"For your expense on spying them I only can offer 1000 bits extra per team. Anything more than that would have to come out of your pocket sadly. Also, uh, I... I'm sorry to be shameless, but it'll be really appreciated if you return the leftover money to me once you're done. if you've spent them all then I guess that's fine...Ah, and... goodluck."

Their target was nearby and finally, Sheppard was no longer leaking deadly gases and seemed to have finally learned the leason of not overeating completely. John got himself an overview over the situation, three places to get into, a hotel, a kiosk and a restaurant. Knowing Sheppard, John wanted to stay away from anything serving food as far as possible. Should they split up and take up different positions? First off all, they should get an overview over the situation, maybe stroll past the dealers spot and thentake up positions. "The hotel offers the most secure observation spot. It's not cheap and we have to get a room upstairs, but in return nobody could observe us either. Best would be, in my opinion, if one of us immediately went to the hotel and rented a fitting room there. Another one inspects the location we are to observe and other one checks the surrounding, so we won't get suprised from any hidden spots or corners. What do you guys think?".

Whew... there was... a lot to consider here. The best course of action to begin with, they decided, was to slow down and think about what information they definitely needed to get first. "I'm going to think aloud for a bit here..." said Alan.
"First of all, I'll review our main objective: to record the entirety of the effects of the 'digimentals' sold by these vendors. While procuring one of them is optional, in my opinion, it's the easiest way to ensure that we can get a read on the effects. My first idea as to how to go about doing that is to send one of our digimon in alone for that purpose, likely Levi. However, I understand that there are any number of ways that this could go wrong. As such, I would like to see at least one customer approach the vendors, purchase a digimental, and, preferably, leave with it, unchanged and unscathed. This is to ensure that they do not, for instance, force customers to try it out on the spot, or maybe the digimentals activate on contact... For this, I agree that watching from the hotel would be preferable. Staying at a restaurant or a fruit vendor for too long waiting for a customer to show up would rouse suspicion. Furthermore, I agree that we should have someone scout the area. Hmm... there's so much to get done, but when it comes to assigning roles, or deciding what order it should all be done in... I'm incredibly indecisive. I have a tendency to overthink things. I can say 'I can't be too careful' all I want, but that means nothing if it means nothing gets done. Any other thoughts?"

'So many options, so little time,' Justice thought to himself. The information that Arlo provided to the group showed them two areas that they can go to spy on the sellers of the digimentals in question; the hotel or the kiosk. As Alan and John agreed upon renting a room at the hotel as if offered zero chances for them from getting caught, Justice nodded in agreement with them since going to the latter would get them caught in no time if they hang around for too long.
"Yeah I'm good with the hotel, but i'm not sure if we have enough to rent a room. If hotel costs in the Digital World are the same as in our world, we should go for the single bedroom for the cheapest cost possible."
Alan mentioned that someone should scout up ahead to get an assessment of the building the vendors are in. To Justice, it was a good idea.
"My Digimon and I will volunteer to recon the area if you guys are ok with that." he replied, "If we lie low in the crowd, or go up to the roof of the hotel, we can get a good picture of what we're up against. And hey! if we succeed, we'll have a comfy place to spend the night."

"Ok, so you Justice will scout out the spot. This also means that, if we ever try to purchase one of these fake things, you are probably unfit, unless we want them to recognize you." John explained, it wasn't something one hundred percent secure, but they had to make sure nothing went wrong. "Sheppard and I will rent a room in the hotel, hopefully it won't be too expansive. But thats not important, getting those fakes of the street before they cause any harm iswhat we need to do. However we need to communicate without us all in the hotel room, three guys and their digimon sitting in a small hotel room is pretty suspicious too and with these people you can never be sure enough." While his partner kept on planning, Sheppard walked to the others and, with the sweetest puppies eyes and widest smile, showing his razorsharp teeth, he stretched out his open hand, expecting contributions for renting the hotel room.

Alan smirked when the Commandramon motioned for handouts. "I swear to you that hotel rates in the digital world are far more reasonable than those in the human world. That said, I've never been to this hotel in particular, and I'm not about to take any unnecessarily risks." With those words he held up his digivice, and his budget of 1000 particles known as "bits" flowed from the digivice into the waiting digimon. "Just remember: the first 1000 bits than you spend are yours. If you spend 1000 bits or less, I will be expecting 1000 bits back. I would advise you to not splurge, but if you do, I'm not gonna bother sleuthing it out of you. It's only 1000 bits, after all."
The young man clapped his hands together to signal, mostly to himself, that his mind was made up. "Alright! John and Sheppard are on hotel duty, Justice, Gumdramon, and Veemon will scout out the area where the vendors do business, and we..." He motioned to Levi, as well as himself. "...will be splitting up. Levi will go to the fruit kiosk, and I will be going to the restaurant. This way, we'll be able to monitor them from four different points. We have a human-digimon communication device, so this will be easier for us. Plus, I think having a digimon who appears unpartnered on our side may be useful. You never know. Anyway, I think it's about time we got this show on the road." The two began to walk out the door. "If anyone needs us, we'll be where we said we would be. Good luck, and here's hoping we won't need it."

Longer post that usual incoming
Seeing that the guys seem to understand their points now, Alro clapped his paws together. "Well, it's seem the time for you guys to roll out. When you guys came back can I ask you guys to... go from the back door? You'll see an alley somewhere around these rows of shops. You'll find mine quite easily really. Sorry for the inconvenience. Anyway, I'm counting on you guys!"
SHEPPARD AND JOHN
The hotel wasn't quite ritz, but even then it gave a warm, welcoming atmosphere... There are various people going in and out from the hotel room, and it's seem to be visited by both human and digimons alike. There are stairs on the entrance, which meas the lobby is slightly elevated compared to the other shops... But even then, it's not tall enough to see past the waves of interested mass that flocked to this Digimental thingamajig. Good thing for him though, each building have their own balcony... bad thing, it's not hidden enough for someone to be able to use telescope without being noticed by someone...
"Welcome to Amarys, dear guests," suddenly a Bakumon approached them "Are you perchance looking for rooms? Our hotel offers best room available in this district in various price points. Each room come with lunch and breakfast buffet and room services. If you have any inquiry, you can ask the receptionist."
ALAN AND LEVI
Smell of fresh seafood, pasta, garlic bread and various other italian cuisines wafts from the restaurant... it's as if it's tickling the appetite of anyone who wanted to visit. Upon inspection it's seem the most expensive meal is roughly about 250 bits... which is quite a heaventsent. After all, considering they'll be here for a while, that money is probably enough. Bad news however, it's quite packed. Seats near the windows are almost all filled, which honestly, a huge pity.
"Welcome to our humble restaurant, Sirs," an Ebimon greeted. It's strange to have such a huge digimon for a greeter, but it's seems that he knows his stuff. "Our "Shore of Homeland" focuses on different cuisines from various places from human world. If you happened to came from faraway land, maybe you sometime feel like something is missing? Maybe you feel like the food from Japan isn't up to your palette? You don't have to worry! Here, we offer cuisines from various countries! If you're hungry, why don't you come in and enjoy our dishes?"
JUSTICE, VEE AND GUMMY ...it's jam packed. The digimons queuing the stall is not just limited to child stage, but also huge Adult Digimons like Tyrannomon, Greymon, Tuskmon, Snimon and many more... there's even one odd Digimon here, a Skull Greymon. On the contrary, it looks like there are no one visiting the fruit store. The owner, Red Vegiemon, looked almost bored out of his mind. He looks like he lacked sleep somehow, but doesn't seem like he could go sleep at all from these noises... There are various crates of different sizes in here, good enough for hiding... Inside of them there are various fruits native to Digital World.
Behind some of those crates are emergency staircase to the roof... but it looks like if someone get up there without permission, they'll be whipped by the Digimon. Regardless, not even the voice of the vendor beside it could be heard thanks to this commotion. If Justice want to hear, he probably would have to squeeze himself in... but that... probably going to be really hard considering just how tightly packed they are. Digimons might be another matter, but... it looks like various Digimons are already pissed having tightly pressed like this, because honestly the overflooding of the visitor has reached the road, which in turn made various pedestrian annoyed at the sight.
...Now, what to do?
