It wasn't amusing to think about, it wasn't frustrating to think about. It was simply something she wanted to test, the little bit of what she could see in that young digimon made her give thoughtful pause. A lot of it made sense that he would be physical in nature, have a rather timid personality. But that could be ironed out, melted down and brought to bear on those that would force suffering on this world.
But the question that she posed to herself, was would she be comfortable having those that she was trying to defend... Do the same with her? The answer was a simple three letter word and came faster than she thought. It wasn't forced, it wasn't harsh it was just a simple truth of the matter.
So she had placed a simple letter on siris' bed and taken to the fields outside of the library. In the letter she explained what she did, what she did it for, and what she could see in the youth. But ultimately she laid a path out for him if he desired to take it.
But it wasn't a peaceful path, it wasn't one that wouldn't be without suffering of his own. Without struggles of his own, struggles that would help shape and protect the digital world. And hopefully by extension the human one as well.
She told him simply at the end of the letter if he came within the next hour that they would start the training for him to become one of her knights. That they would work together in some way or another to protect the digital world, those that he cared about and ultimately himself.
But? He'd have to fight his mother. Like every knight thus far he'd have to at least show her his drive, his resolve and the desires that were laid bare in the heat of combat.
So she sat.
So she waited.
For a choice that he would make without her.

With a stark, almost uncomfortable sigh, Siris took up the letter's instructions, walking up the hill to see his mother hovering several feet off the ground. He placed both arms at his side, unsure what she meant in the letter exactly, but a chance to serve was a chance he could grow with his mother... that was enough.
"Mom..." Siris broke the silence of the brushing grass and howling wind;
"Mom, I got your letter and... I'm here."
He clenched his fists, turning wide to show he meant business and he would do as instructed; "Whatever it takes!"
He was unsure what his mother had in store exactly, but... he would do his best to meet her expectations, whatever they were. He would begin to guess what she had in store. Perhaps it would be a test, like a written one his father had doctored so many times before. Or it could be an evaluation of his strength by watching his fight something or someone. Something he was hoping was not the case...
There was this feeling he couldn't shake, like that was exactly it. But who would he fight? Certainly not mom... she was way too strong. He looked around again, then folded his ears as she'd no doubt approach, knowing full well what he would have to do.
He just didn't know if he was strong enough to do it.

K could feel his approach.
She could feel his anxiousness, his nervousness, his desire. She could feel every little twitch and every little spilled emotion in his words. The breaking of the silence only slowly broke the renamon's 'stupor' as it were. She'd open her eyes slowly and stare at her son as he spoke, silence greeting him for a few moments.
Slowly but surely would she stand, tilting her head to stare at the young individual that spoke to her. That told her that he would do whatever it took; there wasn't much to say to that. She would do what she believed was right for him. He was unlike syre, he was unlike holly. He was something different, but he could be something more if he wanted.
His want fueled her desire to transform this young man into a fledgling knight. Nay it fueled her desire to see something she would protect be able to protect the future if she was to pass. A torch burning bright on it's own was fine... But to light a bonfire?
They would need more than just kindle and a few sticks.
The renamon slowly dragged a finger across her hand and before long was a sword of soft blue energy brought into being. She'd swish it around a few times staring still at her son. She'd give him a small smile, tilting her head in a friendly somewhat cheerful manner for all of a few moments.
But that would fade away as she spun her sword around... Once... Twice... Three times and with a small flick she'd send a single wave of energy at her son. To test the ground of what he would do. See what steps he would take, how would he close their distance? How would he handle a sword that had no proper weight? No physical form if his mother wished it? How would he handle that cloak that could move on it's own?
What would he do against his mother?

His stance didn't waver. Not against the rising tide of her fluid movements or her sensing of his obviously nervous emotions. He braced for anything, prepared for the worst. Suddenly she held a sword in her hand, bright blue energy that left a glare in the fox's eyes. She expertly spun it with motions that were was soft as silk flowing on a clothesline. But a sudden snap caused Siris to blink and very quickly shift on his back foot, leaping clear from the attack as he rolled off his shoulder and landed on his feet with a surprising grace. Something he never really showed anyone in his family, not even his beloved mother.
With a sigh and roll of his neck; the young fox prepared for his own counterattack. He stepped back and sprang off his back foot to rush his mother with a prepared and calculated amount of punches that wouldn't do much to her, but would might surprise her with it's sudden violence. From there, he looked to engage his mother with a hand-to-hand clinch! Should he prove successful, she'd find her son's arms wrapped firmly around her hips, and his own hips driving forward and to the left, attempting to slam her headfirst into the dirt! He pivoted off his back foot to allow for greater leverage and momentum. He doubted very much a pile drive would do much to his Super-Mega level mother, but as a Renamon, she might understand how serious the pup was!
Even if he missed, he'd still show an uncharacteristic amount of tenacity that seemed to be hiding in the fox, a spark that ignited every part of his soul! He was ready to take on his mother and fight her as seriously as he could. He'd take the torch and light the fire, but K might be surprised how much fire her son had to burn.

She quietly judged him, She saw that stance. That nervousness, she watched him leap clear of her attack. He was graceful, natural in a sense. It wasn't a surprise he came from a line of fighters, he came from her. Even deep back his father the mikemon had been a fighter of sorts.
Each punch of his was met with a calculated response. Digimon at their heart were fighters, they were bred for this sort of thing. It wasn't hard for her to shift that energy into something more compact, her sword turning into a single energy gauntlet that overtook most of her left arm. She'd snort a bit as he tried something stupid.
Grappling someone that wasn't off their counter wasn't a good idea and she'd kick off of him before he could get too serious of a grip on her. She'd graceful spin around and bring her left hand up launching a wave of energy at her son again but this time much closer than before.
Rolling her shoulders she'd follow suit with maintaining that distance, even going so far as to bounce into the air to give him something he'd have to work with. She could see he wanted in, she could understand where he was coming from. But honestly was he right for this group? She needed to see more before she could earnestly decide. Her eyes shone brightly with a soft power as she considered the one in front of her... and even though she didn't speak it was like she was saying something with the momentum!
You've dipped your hands in water, but what happens when you start to drown? Show me more Siris...

"Like a drowning man to a sinking ship... I will cling to that which I know will kill me."
As she'd send that wave of energy forwards, toward the pup, he'd be taken by the force. He was launched into the other side of a small hill the plains were known for. The loose dirt and grass took the air. Siris gave a grunt as it seemed he was overtaken by the sudden cloud that surrounded their field of battle. If K continued to look where he was last launched, she would be looking for sometime... because quite simply... Siris wasn't there!
As K would ready her next attack, her kin would be behind her, grunting as he attempted to deliver a kick directly under her knee! A weak point in both Digimon and humans! Hit or miss, the fox would follow up with an extension of his arms, calling out:
"Diamond Storm!"
Several dark red shards formed around him, allowing him to take one in his palm as he extended his palm outward, sending them full speed at his mother, looking to harm! The motherfox would be hardpressed to get out of the way of each attack! As that attack was unleashed, Siris would spring backwards off his hands, flipping backwards and landing perfectly. It was like he had done this very fight before, in this exact scenario. He raised up his pseudo-diamondknife and should his attack miss, the pup would rush her in a zig-zag motion, moving like a ghost through the field. The knife aiming for her Brachial plexus, a nerve cluster in humans and... likely Digimon too! A slash there would put an arm out of commission for certain!
It's time to sink or swim!

K would flick her ears quietly, stalking forward as she saw that energy hit her son. She'd watch him land and she couldn't help but frowning a bit at seeing that loose dirt and grass take to the air. He left the area somehow? She'd furrow her brow for an instant and find her knee kicked. She'd give a soft snarl of irritation and then following suit well.
He used an attack point blank against her. The renamon herself using her saberk to knock a few of the shards away. One of them punching into her shoulder nicely. She'd grunt a bit and break off that particular length with one hand. The other side of the crystal still in her body. It would do more harm if she yanked it out without treating it properly of course.
In the seconds she did this he did some crazy flip mumbo that had him back on his feet. She'd note that hand holding onto that knife, aiming for quite the spot on her chest. There was not but a moment that the renamon formed her saberk as a gauntlet around her hand.
Given the chance she would catch that vicious stab with it. A mean frown crossing her face and she'd offer a headbutt to her child looking to send him reeling. Kill shots? In a match like this? That would of been nasty to her. She'd growl out in irritation and the first words that she spoke since him coming here would be something harsh.
"What were you thinking?"
She hadn't aimed any of her attacks to harm quite that badly. She wanted to know where he learned such a technique of all things! That sort of thing would need to be refined, need to be put into control. She'd grit her teeth and stare harshly at her son.
"We're not monsters looking to win. We're not killers born and bred. We're fighters we're protectors.. That. Is not protecting people."
The renamon would cast her gauntlet off to one side and yank out the other half of the diamond shard that was in her shoulder with a wince. She had seen what she wanted to see, heard what she wanted to hear. She knew the paces and was frustrated but she saw something that she could only describe as... Well. Foundation. Foundation she could work with.
"We'll be training to break whatever habit that was Knight. But mark my words, you won't like it. You're not a killer Siris."
She'd push a large amount of aura into her hand and hold it against her arm with a hiss of pain. Really that smarted! She'd growl once again and just take a seat among the grass. She'd look up at her son, a mix of frustration and curiosity in her eyes.
"What are your abilities to you?"

The fight was over in an instant, faster than he can blink. The fox brought his blade around to finish the fight only to be stopped short and head butted by his mother. Siris dropped the makeshift blade and clutched his head, grunting but ready to reply with another flurry. Except instead of seeing her stance up and return the favor... she was chastising him. He blinked and looked at his own hands, realizing what he had done.
He ran over to his mother in an instant, unsure what to do;
”I-I’m so sorry, mom.”
He gently reached out a hand to try to touch her wound, maybe he could do that aura she did? But as she continued, she called him Knight. Which meant he passed! But... was it really worth it?
He wasn’t a killer. He’d never intentionally harm someone! Not if he could help it. Something just... clicked in him. Like this was just an item on a list to scratch off. Yet still, the pup would fold his ears and listen to her rightfully scold him. Then sigh and ask him what his abilities meant to him.
Truthfully?
”I... I don’t know. I’ve never tried to use them in such a way and when we fought... it was like I had done it before a thousand times.”
He flexed his hand, feeling his cheeks flush a bit as he thought more on it: ”T-there’s something else, mom. W-when we fought... I... there was a moment where all I could think about was ‘finishing it’.”
He whined and looked to her, ears splayed flat against his skull, ”Is that normal?”

"The one that you should be apologizing to is yourself."
She'd gently push away his hand and simply shook her head, deciding that she could easily just walk it off at this point. Sure it bloody ached but given a few minutes it'd be right as rain. She'd stare harshly at him up until he gave his answers.
"Your abilities are a part of you, an extension of yourself. They weave and grow stronger. They become what you desire and push further still into the future. You picked up the sense of doing it a thousand times before from me more likely than mikemon."
Then came his next statement, her eyes would narrow and she'd consider briefly what that would mean to many. Some would call him a psychopath, but deeper still she saw the fear. The 'finish' was something a lot of mons held in their hearts, for they were warriors, fighters, or knights born or bred. She'd shake her head slightly and tap his forehead with a finger.
"To such an extreme degree no. You have hardly trained and your instincts come from a variable somewhere, we'll be ironing it out in some regard or another but fights shouldn't be to the death unless there's no other way."
She'd rub at her muzzle and she'd reach forward to grip at one of his hands before gingerly pulling him into a hug. Slipping into his fingers the home portal chip that came with the whole knight thing.
"We will be training you to get rid of that urge, we'll be pushing you to fight as proper and right. If need be we'll seek outside sources for it but we've got plenty of people you can spar against and let me tell you some of them wouldn't be as forgiving."
She'd break the hug and dust herself off from the match that they just had. Then she'd consider something quietly before stepping back a few feet.
"One last thing that I need you to understand. While you're my son and I care for you deeply I'm not going to let that get in my way in terms of judgement when it comes with the knights. But I think you already knew that."
A few moments later the fox turned about and snapped her fingers. A portal to vander tower yawning in front of them, or more specifically into the receiving room for the home portals in it's lofty heights.
"We'll get your room sorted out, some food in your stomach and there's a few people you need to meet. You haven't met joseph or Oathgard yet... And I plan on changing it before assigning you a patrol route of your own."
