Unica heard the correct pronunciation of Bu's name and confirmed her understanding by repeating it over and over again. "Bu, bu-bu bu buuu~" she sang to an unfamiliar, spontaneous melody. The name was strange and that made it funny. Who would name their child Boo? It was very peculiar, but if she repeated it enough then she'd no doubt be able to remember it. She continued to sing her song as she led the group along the path, stopping only when Bu asked where they were headed. "To find a SPARRING friend," she said, putting an emphasis on the word "sparring" the same way Bu had done when she explained that what she was doing was sparring, not fighting. "It's my job," Unica concluded with a determined nod and another pat on Captain Puppy-Dog Snowball's head.
Unica displayed an obvious bias for talking to round, furry, and objectively cute Digimon when looking for someone to fight against Bu. While some of the aforementioned Digimon were Rookie or Champion level, most were babies and dared not fight against such a fierce samurai dinosaur. Long story short, all of the visitors Unica cherry-picked weren't interested in dueling, which in turn caused the young girl to feel defeated. She had felt so confident in her ability to find someone for Bu, but now she wasn't so sure. Just as she was beginning to lose hope, she spotted Dinohumon walking between two tents, only briefly entering Unica's line of vision before disappearing again. "Oh, oh!" she gasped excitedly, knowing he'd be able to help.
Once again acting without telling her Digimon companions what she was doing, Unica ran ahead, the Captain still in her arms. "Dino-Human! Dino-Human!" she hollered as she emerged on the other side of the tents. When he stopped to greet Unica and her companions, Unica smiled and giggled ever so softly. "I made some friends!" she said, giddiness apparent in her voice and in the way she bobbed as she spoke. Regardless of how Dinohumon and the others reacted to her words or demeanor didn't seem to matter, as she proceeded to answer her mentor's question about what they were looking for. "I-- we-- Bu wants to fight!" she blurted, turning to point at the samurai dinosaur.

So, one thing should be gotten out of the way, first and foremost. This child, though neither of the twins had known her for long, was simply precious. They'd both probably fight a war in her name if need be! Bu actually couldn't stifle giggling at the human's singing. Regardless, they faithfully followed her all the way towards Dinohumon, only for Fuu to balk a little at the fact this saurian entity was regarding them of all people with suspicion.
...Why was that? Luckily, it seemed to fade quite quickly. Fuu had to very swiftly step in to clarify something Unica said regarding their purpose, however. "No, no, um, not fight! My sister was looking for a sparring partner and Unica decided to direct us to you, Mister Dinohumon, um...Would you spar with her, please?"

The excitement that permeated the atmosphere was palpable, and that was to say the least! As always, Unica managed to be a small ray of sunshine, her eagerness rapidly spreading to the newly-named Captain Puppy-Dog Snowball. Honestly, he was never been so happy before!
By far not the most important development at the moment, however. The group had found DinoHumon, and Unica, with some small corrections on Bu's part, had expressed their intent; they wanted to fight spar him. Not the rarest proposal, considering the goal the Training Grounds had.
"Seems like a pretty colorful group of friends! It's always interesting to see a Dorumon, now that they aren't as common like they were back in the day. They usually mean well, too; your other friends are rarer sights, but no less welcome. I hope you've been enjoying yourselves."
While initially somewhat suspicious, the adult digimon's countenance relaxed after such a show of sincere intent. That was the spirit of any digimon that wanted to strengthen both their body and mind. How could he deny such a request? "Very well then. I will be your opponent. Is it gonna be a traditional spar, or do you have any particular idea in mind?"
For one, he hoped that the Ryudamon would be able to evolve to her next level. Otherwise, things would get stale somewhat fast. "We can go to one of the nearby arenas. Follow me."
Some more traveling was required to reach their final destination, but it wouldn't be very long until they did. Considering how Unica probably knew the Grounds' layout by heart by now, she probably could infer where they were heading. It was a medium-sized arena, without any obstacles or anything overly fancy; where beginner trained, more or less.
"Mind telling me what's the objective of your training?" He asked the small dragon while they advanced. Each traveler had their own reasons to become stronger, and some of them could be really fascinating. "Is it to protect your child, or maybe something else?"
Why was everyone assuming that the Paomon was related in some way to two dragons of all things? The Digital World surely worked on mysterious ways.

Unica briefly scolded herself for saying "fighting" instead of "sparring," and reiterated the correct terminology with a stern nod. "Sparring," she mused, silently wondering what the difference was between fighting and sparring. To her, it looked very much the same, but there seemed to be a very clear distinction to everyone else at the training grounds. In an attempt to make sense of the words, Unica decided that the difference stemmed from where the brawl occurred. Sparring was restricted to the training grounds while fighting took place everywhere else. But then why did Birdie always talk about "fighting" at the Spartan Training Grounds? It was very confusing.
While Unica continued to nod and quietly repeat "sparring" over and over to herself, Dinohumon made a few comments about her new friends. Dorumon? Back in the day? Rare sights? He could talk in riddles sometimes, but this was a lot to process. Unica stopped nodding and smiled up at her mentor, pretending to understand what he was going on about. He seemed happy and he hoped they were all enjoying themselves; that was enough for Unica to know everything was okay. While Dinohumon and the others discussed the "spar" in question, all the while using words she didn't fully understand, Unica's mind began to wander.
She glanced down at the Captain in her hands and her smile grew in an instant. He was so precious. She wondered what he'd grow up to be. Would he be a doggy, or would he turn into something completely different? What if he turned into the same creature as Dino-Human!? That would be neat! She glanced up at the champion level Digimon then back down at the creature in her arms, considering the possibility for a moment. "Bark, bark!" she yipped suddenly. Did he understand her dog-speak? She was trying to say, "You look very cute today, Mister Captain Puppy-Dog Snowball!" She wondered if she got her accent right. Learning a new language could be difficult.
At about that time, Dinohumon told the party of four to follow him, and Unica did as she was instructed. After a few turns, she recognized where they were headed: to the arenas. This part of the training grounds was her favorite because it was filled with a bunch of different biomes, some of which she'd never even heard of before. She liked the jungle one the most, but she wasn't allowed to go there by herself anymore. Dino-Human once found her trying to scale one of the trees in that section of the training grounds and had to lecture her about how the arenas were for practice, not play. The Boulder Garden was her least favorite.
Dinohumon escorted the small group to one of the beginner fields, a decent sized arena with limited obstacles. It was pretty bare bones, but that was intentional. The arena was used to teach the basics of combat to novice fights; that's it. There was no need for it to be flashy. Unica took her place on the sidelines, making sure to point at the white line on the ground as she stopped walking. "See the line, Captain? You can't go over there until you're older," she tried to explain to the small dog while Dinohumon walked into the arena.

Were they really that common a sight to behold at one point? Fuu grew a little flustered at what Dinohumon stated, for some strange reason. "W-We've been well, thanks." The Dorumon managed, while Bu knew exactly what she wanted out of this. "Oh, oh! A traditional spar, yep. I'm not really one for super complex bouts or anything. Sure, they can be fun, but it's a big ol' hassle sometimes."
The twins (with Paomon and Unica in tow) followed Dinohumon as he instructed to an arena that was not laden with obstacles, a simple place to battle within. "Oh, uh...If I'm being honest, it's so I can protect my sister better. And her friends."
"...The Paomon's not either of us's kid, but I'll admit I'm growing a little attached..." Fuu muttered. Maybe that's why everyone was assuming she was Paomon's mom. "Sure, let's say we're doing this so we can protect him. He's a good kid."

Protecting others. That was probably the noblest reason to seek to become stronger, and definitely one that Dinohumon supported wholeheartedly. He smiled, satisfied at Bu's response. "Truly, an embodiment of a dragon's spirit and about a Ryudamon's traditional values. It's good to see that you're still out there, trying to make this world a better place."
The old digimon had seen one too many dragons succumb to their most primal instincts, or to arrogance and greed; banes their species had to compensate for their nigh-unlimited potential. If not kept in check, they could be the downfall of even the strongest digimon. But, that was a bit of an unsavory topic, so instead he focused on the little Paomon in Unica's arms. "I got to say, he's pretty well-behaved for a digimon at his level. I've been to the Village of Beginnings on more than one occasion, and the babies there... let's just say that I'm happy that my life's call was to be here as an instructor, rather than as a caretaker there."
What about the Paomon himself? He seemed to be positively excited when Unica 'barked' at him, almost as if he had understood the message. He yipped in response and then decided to rub his head on the soft fabric of Unica's clothes.
Once the group had finally reached the arena, Dinohumon walked to the far side of it, before facing back and adopting a fighting stance. "Well, if this is what you wanted, then the first move is yours! Let's see what you're made of!" How would Bu open? That was a question that only she could answer.
Meanwhile, Unica, Paomon (and Fuu, presumably) were outside, probably watching the spectacle unfold at a safe distance, all while the former explained why the baby-level digimon couldn't venture farther until he was 'older'. He seemed to understand, because right away, a bright light enveloped his boy as it grew and expanded. Moments afterward, a Xiamon stood where Paomon had previously been. Was he small enough to still remain in between Unica's arms? That was probably a very important question.
In any case, the canine seemed positively excited at the development. So excited that he proceeded to bark happily at the small girl. He looked like he wanted to play with her.

Oh, no! What had she done!? Panic instantly overcame the seven-year-old as the Captain began to glow in her arms. No, this wasn't supposed to happen! She didn't mean to do it, whatever it was she did! If Unica was capable of calming down enough, she would've been able to recognize what was happening as the same thing she'd seen other Digimon do: digivolve. But this was so sudden and without warning. Plus, it was happening in her very arms! Unica stomped and jumped in place, staring wide eyed at the puppy in her hands all the while, clearly unsure what to do. Did she hold him too tight? Did she say something wrong? Was he about to blow up, or attack, or--
Before she knew it, the glow subsided with a flourish of data and the Digimon in her hands now had four pinkish red legs. Unica was silent for a long moment, staring at the slightly larger creature in her grasp, mouth agape with horror or surprise. With arms still outstretched in front of her, keeping the Captain far away from her body for fear of accidentally doing something to cause him to glow again, Unica turned the Digimon around so she could see his face. He had a little nose now. Unica giggled at the sight. How could he smell when he didn't have a visible nose before? It didn't matter; he looked even more like a puppy now.
When the Captain barked and wagged his longer tail, Unica bounced in place again, this time out of joy and excitement. "Do you want to play, Captain Puppy-Dog Snowball?" she asked, giggling again as he continued to bark. Her laugh was adorable and light, carefree and full of childlike wonderment. "Me too!" she chimed as she lowered the canine Digimon to the ground. What could they play together, she wondered. "Tag?" she suggested aloud, "Hide-and-seek? Red light, green light? Simon says?" It seemed like the Captain couldn't speak, but she still listed off her suggestions anyway, as if doing so would help her decide.

See, Bu had never met another Ryudamon before. It took Fuu giving her actual evidence that others existed to inform her that she was not, in fact, the only Ryudamon in existence. "He really is kind of well-behaved for a baby...It's odd." Bu noted, moving to stand on the other side of the arena from Dinohumon.
How would she open? Well, the Ryudamon looked as though she was prepared to dash in, but she first opened her mouth to spit a sword bladefirst at Dinohumon. This was an attack she wasn't expecting to see land, more serve as a diversion while the Ryudamon then sprinted forward to close the gap between her and the dinosaur!
Of course, he'd have plenty of time to react to that opening attack...
Meanwhile, outside of this all, Fuu witnessed her (adopted) son take Unica's statement of needing to be older into mind...And promptly evolving. She witnessed this with a blank look on her face. Now, Xiamon truly was Puppy-Dog-Snowball. "I-I wonder if he knows what those are...?" Fuu murmured, tilting her head at her adoptive son. "Which one do you want to play, Snowball?" Bu opens up with Iaijin, firing a sword at Dinohumon before she rushes to close the gap!
Iaijin: Bu opens her mouth to spit out a sword. No, really, she spits a sword out at the enemy. Bladefirst. This has applications in both close combat and ranged combat. One turn cooldown.

The fight between Bu and DinoHumon was at full throttle now; luckily, no sei were involved in this training session. The digimon gazed forward, fire already burning in in his eyes. Despite being a spar, it seemed like he wouldn't be an easy opponent.
"Ha, that's a pretty bold first move. I like your spirit, young one!" He exclaimed while the katana flew towards his direction. In one swift motion, he unsheathed his greatsword and swung it before the opposing blade could make contact, effectively parrying it while looking pretty cool in the process.
It wouldn't take him long to charge head on as well, showing an emotion that bordered excitement as the two dragons were about to clash. What would happen next? For now, the answer wasn't clear! The Captain's evolution had brought overall positive reactions from both Unica and his surrogate mother, barking happily all along, at least until the human presented him with the possible options regarding the games they could play. For a moment he was completely silent, almost as if deep in thought; just then, he approached Unica and... bopped her leg before trotting away quickly, or at least relatively quickly for a digimon of his stage.
At plain sight, it seemed like the Xiamon wanted to play tag! How would everyone react to such development? Dinohumon parries Bu's Iajin with Cool Parry, then races towards her to close the gap as well!
Cool Parry: Parries exactly 1 attack, but looks hella cool. What else can you ask for?

The Captain nudged Unica's leg before turning around and running off, his tail wagging as he went. Ah, so he wanted to play tag, and Unica was now It! She gasped dramatically, pretending to be surprised that he managed to get her before she was ready, and watched her companion prance off. "I'm It!" she announced with a giggle. Although her initial plan was to give chase to the small puppy, she instead turned around and locked eyes with the fox-dragon. With a large grin spreading across her face, Unica reached out and tapped the unsuspecting Digimon. "Now you're It!" she laughed while turning on her heels and running after Captain Puppy-Dog Snowball. As she sprinted, Unica screeched in joyous panic, scared and excited by the idea of being tagged as It again. Seconds later, she glanced over her shoulder to see if the purple Digimon was playing along.

Bu had not been expecting an easy opponent, even if this had been a spar. Nor had she been expecting for that attack to land, either. It served it's purpose well, for the gap had been closed and she was in range to actually strike. The sword was effortlessly parried by the greatsword and landed elsewhere in the arena. It was pretty cool looking, to be honest.
Now that she was in proper range, Bu sprang forth, aiming to launch herself at Dinohumon in an attempt to use her weight and/or armor to knock him off balance! Would it work? Who knows! It took Fuu a moment to register what her (adoptive) son wished to play, as she was not all too familiar with human world customs. In fact, her unfamiliarity was so vast that...It took Unica tagging her to realize they were playing tag.
Okay.
She had to approach this carefully. Xiamon was smaller, ergo, he was gonna be faster than Unica. So...The Dorumon darted off after Unica with the intent to tag her right back, trying to boop her on the shoulder if she could get close and dart away! Success chance? Unknown. Bu, having closed the distance, launches herself at Dinohumon for the most basic tackle of all!

The fact that mom Fuu was trailing after Unica meant that the Captain was free to keep himself at a safe distance from his two 'opponents', if that was even the right word. His immature mind was probably not the best at deciphering this kind of situations, in any case! Right now, the only thing he knew was that he wasn't it, and that he should avoid being it at all costs, if able! Whether that was good enough or not, only time could tell. What about Dinohumon and Bu? Well, for now their fight seemed like one colossal showoff, at least on Dinohumon's side. Was his usual fighting style about looking cool? It certainly seemed like it!
Now, the two digimon were meeting each other head-on. For what reason? Right now, it seemed like the two were about to clash against each other, their bodies ready to withstand the brunt of the others' weight. At least at the instant of the clash, it seemed like the two dragons were... evenly matched of all things.
"That was good, that much I'll give you." The elder digimon said while his body recovered from the recoil. "You're a fine warrior." Dinohumon answers Bu's tackle with one of his own.

Was this game of tag fair? Probably not. Unica was not a Digimon and she could only run as fast as her little legs could carry her. Her body wasn't built for athleticism and combat like these Digimon were, so it was no surprise that the dragon-fox was able to catch up to her in a matter of second, tapping her on the shoulder and dubbing her the new It. Regardless of this fact, Unica was having a blast! She screamed in surprise and happiness when she realized she was now the pursuer. The dragon-fox would've probably been the easiest one to touch, since she was physically the closest to the little girl, but between Unica's slow reaction time and the fact that she was already running in the same direction as the Captain, he became her target. Though he may have had more stamina than her, he did have shorter legs, which meant he had to work twice as hard to cover the same amount of distance as Unica. She recognized this and dashed after him, hollering, "I'm gonna get you!" as she went. If she managed to get close enough, she would've reached out to try tapping him on back.

This was by far the most rigged game of tag when one considered the fact that two of the participants were not human. Fuu felt as though neither of her competitors could outrun her for long considering they were both...well, kids! She opted to keep back and away from Unica, who was currently it, as she pursued the hell out of her son. Leaving him to the child?
...How cruel. She waited to see who would emerge as It before scrambling away from them!
Meanwhile, Bu and Dinohumon collided, and found that they were evenly matched! ...Despite the level difference. What was with that? The recoil left Bu unable to react for a time, so while she recovered? "...Yeah. You're pretty good, yourself. Means I should try a little harder!" The dragon cried as she made another advance, before she threw a fierce headbutt Dinohumon's way! The two lizards collide, and Bu retorts with Kabutogaeshi!
Kabutogaeshi: Only usable after being immediately struck with a melee attack, Bu reacts with a vicious headbutt that sends the opponent back and reeling. Two turn cooldown.

The collision had definitely affected Bu more than Dinohumon; that was to be expected, considering the difference in level between the two fighters. However, it was beneath the older dragon to do something like a dishonorable attack; so, he waited until she recovered, the prepared his stance to receive Bu's headbutt, and notably wincing when it impacted directly on his abdomen. He recovered quickly, however, and now was gripping the Ryudamon with his two arms, just to unceremoniously throw her towards the edge of the arena, almost as if she were a reptilian baseball. That was bound to hurt unless Bu had cat-like landing skills! Those always managed to land on their feet. Meanwhile, the kids and Xiamon's mom were having the time of their lives. The small dog looked to be genuinely happy in the face of this amount of playing partners. Only if his tamer were here...
Anyway, wishful thoughts aside, it seemed like Unica had managed to catch up to him and tag him. Now, he was the dreaded It; his first act? Of course, it would be to race straight towards Fuu. Chances were that he was the slowest of the trio, considering his status as the smallest being around, but that didn't mean he wouldn't try his best. Sooner or later, he'd catch mom! Dinohumon Receives Bu's headbutt head on, and then uses fastball special on her!
Fastball special: Lobs the digimon's enemy like a baseball. Home run potential is pretty high. Cooldown: 1 post.
