No rest for the wary [Desmond]

Desmond was crying while holding his now tiny partner in his left arm. He tried to use his other arm but he didn't even manage to move an inch as it was still very painful. As Sam came forward toward him, the blond tamer looked up and he could feel something... Cold about her. He stayed on his knees as his girlfriend began speaking. A mixture of sadness and confusion came into his mind. He couldn't believe what she just said. It didn't sound like Sam. What happened to her? As he was about to say something, the brunette slapped him making his eyes grow wider in surprise. Something was wrong about all of this. "Sam..." He slowly turned his head to look at her in the eyes and he saw darkness. This wasn't Sam.
As he opened his mouth, he heard Hawk shouting that this was indeed not Sam anymore. However, Desmond did not have enough strength to stand up. "Who are you?" That was all he could find to say. The young woman told them that she was Sam, just with an upgrade. The blond tamer looked at Hawk for a second when she mentioned IceDevimon. His attention quickly shifted to look at the girl he loves. "No..." He slowly whispered to himself. The two Hyougamon, ogres of ice. They were here to get her all along. And their master, it must be the IceDevimon they faced before. It kind of made sense but why Sam?
And then, she screamed two words. "Get... Out?" The blond tamer held Demi closer to him as he could do nothing but watch the young lady battle something in her mind. As she fell on her knees and kept shouting, it was now that Desmond tried to stand up to get closer to her. "Sam?" He made small steps toward the girl while still holding on to the DemiMeramon with his left arm. He then saw something dark, sinister getting out of her body. What was that? What was going on? The Frenchman didn't know what to do. "Sam!" He shouted her name as she fainted. Falling on his knees once more, Desmond let go of Demi for a moment and placed a hand on Sam's head. He then moved his hand toward her neck to check her pulse. She was still alive.
The tamer did his best to safely put Sam on Hawk's back and went back to get his partner. His legs were still weak but he knew that he had to carry on. "Yeah..." Desmond whispered with teary eyes. "Let's go south..." And with that, the four of them began walking toward where that Digimon doctor was, hopefully.
Desmond lost track of time as they were walking south. It did feel like a very long moment but that was also because of how tired they all were. To be honest, he was slowly losing hope. He had his head down following Hawk's shadow a few feet behind. After what seemed like forever, they began seeing something in the distance. It was a wooden structure with a large banner just above an opening saying: "Piximon's clinic and spa!". There was no door so the blond tamer just looked at Hawk a bit confused. "Should... We go in?" He asked with hesitation. It did say clinic so that must be the place, right? Taking careful steps toward the building, Desmond was the first one to get in. "Erm..." The inside was very white like a clinic would be.
"Welcome!" A high pitched voice said. The enthusiasm in that welcome made Desmond jump a bit. In front of them, there was a figure on a stool with a very long lab coat that was almost touching the floor. The mysterious doctor turned around revealing a small Piximon with a broad smile. "Oh!" She said upon seeing how badly they all looked right now. "Erm..." The doctor flew toward the DemiMeramon and poked his side. "He is missing an arm, what did you do to him?" The voice was very serious when she asked that question. "Erm..." And she took the Digimon into her small arms and made her way to a bed and placed Demi on it. "Don't worry! I'll take care of him!" Her tone was much joyful this time.
"You look terrible too!" She pointed at Desmond would use his left hand to point at Hawk and the unconscious Sam. "Erm... Could you take care of these two first?" He was much more worried about Sam and Hawk than himself. "What did you do to look like that?" Again that seriousness. "Come! There are more beds! Just lay on them and relax and I'll take care of all of you!" The blond tamer waited to see what Hawk would do before making sure that his girlfriend was safely on a bed before sitting down on the bed next to hers. He was so worried about her.

Desmond stayed in a sitting position even if the Digimon doctor told him to lay down. He kept his eyes on Sam as she was still unconscious. He was holding his right bicep trying to keep it from shaking due to the pain. Now that it was calmer, he had less distraction to numb the pain. It would take a few minutes for the young lady to wake up and look at him. He heard her whispering his name and it made him smile. "Hey Sam." He softly said while not moving. When she asked him if she slapped him, Desmond looked away. "Erm..." He wasn't sure if he should tell her that she did do that. She wasn't herself back then so he felt that he should act like it never happened. "No..." He was a pretty bad liar though. The hesitation in his voice was a clear sign that he was hiding something. As she asked him another question, the blond tamer looked away once more. "Erm..."
"You just felt unconscious..." He slowly began to lie. "Thankfully, Hawk was there to catch you and yeah..." He did feel a bad telling her that many lies but to be fair, he too didn't know what happened exactly. Desmond just looked at the floor and then finally at his girlfriend. He felt guilty just looking at her. "Don't worry about what happened..." He said with hesitation. "We got ambushed but we survived." He was going to say that they won but that didn't seem like the proper word right now see how Demi was right now. After a short moment of silence, the blond tamer spoke once more. "We should get some rest."
And as he said that, the Piximon came back into the room with a giant syringe. The sheer size of it compared to the pink Digimon was kind of comical. "So, let's see!" She was very happy as she scanned the four of them. Demi was out, Hawk was sleeping, Sam was awake but it was Desmond that caught her attention due to him holding his right arm. "Let's start with you!" As she got closer with the large syringe, the Frenchman got scared. "Erm..." She wasn't going to poke him with that thing, right? "Don't worry! It will only hurt a bit, it will numb your arm!" He only heard the word: hurt. "Erm..."
"I'm kidding!" The Piximon then cheerfully said while laughing. She tapped the large syringe and it shrunk down to something much smaller. "You should see the look on your face!" Desmond nervously laughed. Very nervously. The doctor made her way to check his right arm and looked at it briefly. "Ok, now I'll inject some numbing to you." The blond tamer nodded. "Take a deep breath." And as soon as she said that she inserted the needle into his arm. It wasn't painful at all. "There!" She then gave him a small pat on the head. "Now try to relax a bit, okay?" Desmond nodded once more but didn't lay down just yet. He wanted to make sure that Sam's and his partner was going to be fine. "I'll check the others and come back to fix that arm of yours."
"Now, young lady." The Piximon would then say as he flew toward her. "Where does it hurt?"

Desmond nodded when Sam asked him to keep an eye on Hawk. "Don't worry." He simply said now that the pain of his arm was much less intense. However, when Piximon looked at his partner, he couldn't help but hold his breath hoping she would say something good. He saw the Digimon move the DemiMeramon a bit and was shaking her head. "Do you know what happened to him?" She asked without looking at him. The blond tamer would look at the floor for a second before getting out of his bed. He wanted to take a closer look to poor Demi. "Erm..." Now that Sam was away, he felt that he could tell the doctor the truth. "We got ambushed..." He began explaining as he got closer to the two Digimon. "There were these erm... Blue ogres with ice on them..."
"Hyougamon." The Piximon quickly said. "You must have been far away to meet them." Desmond shook his head. "We weren't that far away from here..." The pink Digimon turned around to look at the human a bit surprised. "Hyougamon doesn't usually go much farther away from their cold homeland." She explained. "We met two of them actually..." Now the Piximon was curious. "Two of them? In the fields?" The blond tamer nodded. "They were here to get Sam... The girl that was with me." And he paused before trying to move the fingers on his right hand. "That is strange, very strange." And then she paused. "And what happened to the DemiMeramon?"
"Well, he became a Meramon and with Hawkmon there, they began fighting the two Hyougamon. I didn't see much of what happened exactly, I got hurt early in the ambush... What I did see was that they froze his arm and then... they broke it apart and Demi got knocked down." He was trying to stay as calm as possible. His memories of the ambush was still a bit unclear in his mind. "Then Demi jumped on one of them and... He just exploded and Demi was there, on the ground unconscious."
"Well, he is very lucky to be alive then." The doctor said while turning around to look at Desmond. "I don't think that his arm will regenerate. Not right away." The tamer felt bad hearing that. "What can we do then?" The Piximon sighed. "I hate to say that but, not much. I don't have what it takes to help him regrow an arm." She stayed calm which made Desmond stay calm as well. "So there's is nothing we can do?" The Frenchman really hoped that the pink Digimon would say yes. "Well, I can't but I know someone that could help you." And she paused sighing. "However, it's going to cost you a lot."
Desmond didn't care, he would give anything to have Demi back at full health. "Please, tell me where to find that someone." He begged. "He lives in the Hardware Den, in the Western Flatlands." The blond tamer was taking mental notes but quite frankly, he had no idea where that was. "He doesn't really like people but he is very good at making prosthetics." Pausing for a second, the Piximon turned around once more to look at Demi. "I'll give him something to make him feel better when he wakes up but besides that, there isn't much I can do."
The human sighed heavily. He was very thankful that the Piximon was taking care of them. "Now, you go back to your bed and I'll check your arm, alright?" Desmond nodded and made his way back to his bed and sit down on it. The doctor went to gently move his arm around. "I hope that your current cast protected your wrist." She said while shaking her head. "I'm going to remove it and then make a new one for you just to be sure." The Frenchman wasn't very proud of himself but it wasn't technically his fault if it got broken again. "Yeah... Sorry about that." The Piximon laughed. "Silly boy, let me get supplies, you stay right here alright?" Desmond just nodded and would wait for the kind doctor to come back.
He hoped that Sam was having a good time at the spa. After what happened earlier, she definitively deserves a break. And then, the mental image of her being almost naked in the water came into his mind and it made him blush a bit. He shook his head rapibdly but that image was still pretty clear in his head.

When Sam was away, the kind doctor was using some kind of device to scan his broken arm. "I'm not used to having a lot of human patients here but you are not the first one." That made Desmond feel better. He did have doubts that the Piximon wouldn't know what to do with a human but it seemed that she did know what to do. "Hold your arm and don't move." She while smiling. Thanks to the numbing from before, there was no real pain anymore. He could feel something like grinding in his wrist but it was painful at all. It would take her a bit more time to carefully make the cast. To Desmond's request, she gave him an orange one. He thought that maybe Demi would like that. She then gave him a sling to support the arm and adjusted it to his size. "There you go!" And she gave him a good pat on the head. "Don't go breaking it, ok?" Desmond nodded and smiled back. "Thank you."
As Sam came back from the dip, the Digimon doctor was trying to figure out what to do with the DemiMeramon that was still unconscious. Desmond wanted to be next to him when he wakes up and that was fine for the Piximon. "Will... Will he be alright?" He asked with concern. A long sigh came out of the pink Digimon. "I don't know." She admitted. "We'll know when he wakes up." Desmond placed a hand on the head of his little partner. It was still warm. Feeling the soft heat on his hand made him worry slightly less. He did felt guilty that he had to lose an arm and then kind fo sacrifice himself. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if Demi was to never wake up.
Desmond then was Sam coming toward Hawk and sit down. With her wet hair just brushed on one side away from her face, the blond tamer couldn't help but see how beautiful she is. His cheeks went red and his jaw dropped a bit. He was trying to shake those dirty images he had in mind by closing his eyes for a second. Hearing her voice brought him back to reality. He opened his eyes and saw her hugging Hawk. It was nice to see them together like that. He looked down once more to look at his own partner. Still no movements.
"I'm not sure." The Frenchman admitted. "Piximon said that she knows someone that can fix Demi's arm..." He did want to go there but asking his girlfriend for help didn't feel right. She has been through enough with the Hyougamon. She should go back home and rest. However, he knew that wouldn't be able to rest right now. He was about to say something when a small voice was heard. "Hmm..." It was Demi's voice.
Desmond quickly looked at the little fireball and wanted to just grab him into his arms but then realized that both of them only had one good arm. Instead, the blond tamer was trying to not cry in joy. "Demi..." He softly said. "What happened?" The Digimon asked while looking around. He began waving his arms and saw that he lost his left arm. He didn't react at first, not knowing what was going on. "Desmond?" He said his name while looking at where his arm should be. The Frenchman sat on the bed and took a deep breath. "You saved me." He simply said. "You saved us."
Demi wasn't smiling, however. "Where's my arm?" And as he said that, the doctor came back with a big sticker in hand. "Hello!" She cheerfully said before flying next to the DemiMeramon. "Don't you move, okay?" Demi just nodded and the Piximon carefully applied the giant smiley face sticker on his left side. "There you go! All fixed!" Demi would look at the sticker and then began to smile. "Look! Look!" He shouted in joy. "I got a smile on me!" Desmond couldn't help but shed a tear. It didn't seem like Demi was traumatized, it seemed that he was taking it rather well. Looking around him, the fireball spotted Sam and her partner. "Sam! Hawk!" He began waving his arm up and down. "Look! Look!"
Desmond would let Demi show his brand new sticker before looking at the doctor and whisper. "Thanks." She nodded and winked at him. "Alright, you should get some rest, all of you." The blond tamer didn't want to rest, he wanted to go to that Hardware Den as soon as possible. He knew that he needed help but couldn't find the courage to ask his girlfriend. "I should be..." He stopped mid-sentence and took a deep breath. "I think that I need to go out, take some air..." It was very easy to see that Desmond was a terrible liar and had something bugging him. "Yeah... Some fresh air would be good..."

Desmond had his head down as he walked out. He didn't even notice Sam following him. Then, he heard her voice and slowly turned his head to face her. He had to look down again when she told him that she knew he was lying to her. It was true and he felt bad about it but he just wanted to protect her. He never really been a social kind of person, confrontations aren't his strongest point. He just thought that if they don't walk about it, that memory would just fade away. Hearing her saying that she hated liars made him feel little inside. He couldn't even look at her in the eyes now. He wanted to come clean but didn't know exactly how. What would happen if he told her what really happened? That somehow, IceDevimon managed to take control of her? He wasn't even sure if that was what happened.
It would take a few more seconds for the blond tamer to finally look up and see that tears were falling off her eyes. His mouth opened to say something but no words came out. He felt like someone was gripping his heart and not letting it beat properly. He had to breathe slowly as he felt him getting a bit dizzy. He tried to hide that by looking once more at the ground. Closing his eyes for a moment, he waited for Sam to tell her that maybe it wouldn't work for them and he quickly lifted his head to look at her as she began making her way back.
HIs left hand quickly went to grab her hand, if she would let him do so. "Sam..." He softly whispered. "Wait..." And would hope that she would turn around to see him. He looked defeated, tired and sad. "I..." And he took a step forward to be closer to the girl he loves. "I'm sorry..." He took a deep breath before talking again. "I'm... I was..." He wasn't even sure what to say right now. "I need you." He would then say before shedding tears. "You weren't yourself... There was something... Cold... Something cold about you." He paused trying to gather his thoughts. "You mentioned IceDevimon..." He wasn't sure if he should tell her what happened after that.
"I thought that not telling you this would just make it better. I didn't want you to worry about all of us." He let go of her hand to wipe his tears away. "I don't want to lose you." He whispered hoping that she heard him. "Meeting you, was the best thing that ever happened to me. And having you love me is even better." Desmond held on his breath again. "I love you, Sam. I need you. I really do." And he would wait for something to happen anything. "Sam, I'm sorry for lying to you. I can't honestly say that it won't happen again." And that was the truth. "But I will try to be as honest as I can with you, and Demi, and Hawk."
"If... If you still want me around, do you think that you can forgive me?"

As Sam pressed her head on his chest, Desmond placed his left arm around her. She too held him in her arms and it was there that he knew that she has forgiven him. He tried to hold on to the hug for a bit longer while trying not to cry too much. He stayed silent for a few more seconds as she pulled away, looking at her face going red made him smile. She always had that power over him, she could always make him smile. The blond tamer went to scratch his chin and look at the ground.
"For Demi?" He sighed still unsure of what to say next. "Piximon told me that there might be someone that can fix his arm..." He paused for a moment and tried to move his right hand. It hurt a bit doing so. "She mentioned the Hardware Den, in the Western Flatlands." However, he had no idea where that was exactly and how to get there safely. "I guess that's where I'm going to go next." He did want to have Sam and Hawk to come with him but he didn't want to get them into more danger. He wanted to ask her if she would join him but just couldn't muster the courage to ask.
Meanwhile, inside the clinic, Demi seemed pretty happy for someone that lost his arm. When Hawk asked him how he was feeling, the fireball smiled and turned on his left side to show him the giant sticker that had a smile on it. "Look! Look!" He said joyfully. "Do you want one? I'm sure that the doctor can give one to you as well!" It didn't seem like Demi understood that his arm was gone for good. All he knew is that he got that sticker on him and that everything was going to be alright sooner or later. "Oooh! We can have matching stickers!" He waved his right arm up and down and laughed a bit.
The good Piximon doctor was in the next room and could hear the DemiMeramon being all happy. She sighed and felt bad for him. Clearly, he was still a child. But there was nothing she could go to help him. She would wait for a bit longer before going back into the room the two other Digimon were. "Look at you, so full of energy." She said with a smile. Demi quickly turned around and pointed at Hawk. "Can Hawk get a sticker as well?" He asked with wide eyes. "Please, please, please!" The Piximon nodded. "Of course he can!" Right now, keeping his morale up was a good thing to do.
Back outside, Desmond was still trying to figure the right words to say to his girlfriend. "It might be dangerous..." He slowly whispered as he got closer to the girl. "Maybe we should go back home and think about it..." Even if his mind was set on going the Den as fast as possible. Pausing for another second, the Frenchman sighed and began talking once more. "Do you want to come home? With me?"

Demi was very happy that he got to slap a giant sticker on Hawk. The fireball would go hug his best friend with his remaining arm. "We're like twins!" He shouted with joy. He clearly did not notice that the Hawkmon was faking a smile. "Look! Look!" The Piximon smiled at the two before speaking. "You do look like twins!" She chirped with enthusiasm. The DemiMeramon let go of Hawk and looked around for their tamers. "Where's Desmond?" He asked while moving his head left to right. "Where's Sam?" For a second, it almost looked like he was going to be sad. "They are outside, do you want me to let you know that you are looking for them?" Demi nodded and waved his hand. "Don't tell them about the stickers! I want to surprise them!" The good doctor laughed and winked at him before going outside.
"I think that we all need to get a good night of sleep." Desmond softly said as he placed his arms around his girlfriend. He held her close to his body and closed his eyes for a moment. "I... Would love to have you staying at my place for the night." He paused for a second, just holding her. "I think that Demi would like that as well. I know that he sees you and Hawk as a family. Or at least, very close friends." That thought made the blond tamer smile. "I think that he will need our presence more than ever now that..." He didn't want to say that Demi lost his arm, it was still too fresh for the tamer. "I hope he will be fine..."
"Ahem." Desmond quickly let go of Sam and turned around to see the Piximon. She motioned them to come closer. "Your partners would like to show you something. You should come in." And then she got closer and whispered. "Act surprised." And with that, she went back inside and put on a smile. "They are coming!" The Frenchman looked at Sam for a moment and then went to grab her hand. He wasn't sure why they should act surprised but the good doctor was already gone. "Let's go in... Together?"
As the couple went back inside, Demi shouted in joy. "Desmond! Sam!" He was still next to Hawk as he turned to show them their giant matching stickers. "Look! Look!" Desmond jaw dropped a bit, he wasn't expecting that at all. "We're twins!" The blond tamer didn't say anything at first. "It..." He looked at Sam for a second and then at the Piximon. "Smile." She whispered. Desmond turned his attention back to his partner who was smiling broadly. The human's expression went from being very surprised to a large smile. "I can barely tell you two apart." It was amazing how Demi seemed to be happy even after such events.
"We should get home now." Desmond then said after laughing a bit. "Eat something then..." He was going to say something about getting Demi a new arm but maybe he shouldn't remind him that his arm won't come back. "And then we can watch a movie together." He said before turning his attention to the Piximon. "Thanks, for everything." He bowed slightly and kept his head down for a second. "You are welcome, just don't get in trouble now. You all need some time to rest." And she waved goodbye and went back to her office. "Can we eat popcorn?" Demi then asked with puppy eyes. "Anything you want, Demi."
"Are we ready?" Desmond asked with a smile. He looked at Hawk and Demi before turning his head to look at Sam. "Let's go home."
