Alan took note of everything that the Biyomon, her tamer, and everyone else had to say. After that, he continued to stare at his notes, eventually writing something else down when he realized that it was likely very relevant that the tamer had explained the shell mission to the group, rather than Biyomon. However, he could still only continue to be lost in thought. The others had already asked the questions he immediately thought of when the shell incident was brought up.
"The others have the shells covered," suggested Levi, "so why don't we ask about some of the other information we just got?" The Veemon was considering what the Doctor had said. Vlad had suspected his trade was going to 'catch up with him.' This took a step closer to satisfying his optimistic hope that Vlad really had considered Biyomon a friend, and put the curse in place as a desperate attempt to use someone he had come to trust to ensure that a task was carried out, though he suspected his own impending death. However, while this was indeed a possibility, at the moment, it was mostly romanticism-fueled conjecture, so Levi did not say anything of this at the moment. "Let me just say that I believe it is important to note that Vlad may have had an inkling that something bad was about to happen to him. When Vlad gave you this task, Biyomon, did he mention anything to that effect? If not, I will put this point aside until we have more information."
Alan chimed in once more. "Doctor, do we know where it was, specifically, that Vlad always met his 'work friends' for lunch? That'd give us another lead for later investigation, if it comes to that."

Given the Biyomon's disposition, it was clear that the group was getting closer to something. If Vlad was the sort of person to remove an item from a mission location, then perhaps the shells had something to do with it... or, perhaps not.
"Did the request happen to pertain to the contents of your previous mission with Vlad involving the shells?"
"Well... no, the shells didn't have anything to do with it." There was slight interest with that answer, a pause and a moment of thought that suggested she had to think if that information was relevant or not. Regardless, this line of questioning wouldn't put them closer to the answer, but it would help to give an idea to the kind of person the Myotismon was. As for what kind of shells?
"Um... some kind of crab shell, I think."
"Something similar to a hermit shell," Isabelle clarified, and Mikemon gave a nod. "I can attest that they would have value, but there's nothing wholly abnormal about them. But the sections of beach where they are most common are leased for gathering rights."
"And I'm pretty sure he did pocket a couple... if its as the Doctor says, then he was likely trying to peddle them on the side."
If it didn't seem important until now, then it likely wasn't widespread or repeated enough for anyone to file a real claim. The Veemon chimed in for a different point:
"When Vlad gave you this task, Biyomon, did he mention anything to that effect? If not, I will put this point aside until we have more information."
"..."
... No answer. And as Alan hit a 'yes or no' question, that hit on a particularly difficult point. "... Hm."
The next question was easy enough to answer: "Well, he'd been working over in Terminus, so he'd have lunch either in the building, by himself, or occasionally hit a place outside-"
"... Right track, wrong note." Mikemon tapped a claw at his desk. "How about after work? Where did he live?"
"Terminus. A loft above a convenience store, I think."
"Alright, so did he have any evening hobbies, or even something he did that wasn't something that 'most' would do?" The cat's reasoning was solid: if they could get a more direct lead, then they wouldn't have to deal with so much uncertainty. Was that okay to answer?
"..." Her pause was pointed with a bit of thought, an almost uncomfortably long pause filling the room.
"So... 'yes'? It must be related, if-" Isabelle spoke, but was cut off by the Mikemon raising a nail.
"... Tell me." The cat sighed. "Are you, right now, trying to protect him?"
Her eyes widened, B's beak giving a click, as Mikemon audibly swore under his breath - and perhaps to Holly's surprise, didn't even entertain putting a coin in the swear jar on the far cabinet. "God damn it..."

Eris frowned her little black tipped tail twitching as she eyed the Biyomon with a mix of concern, worry, and understanding. Though the thought that all of their information could have been tainted and swayed not only by the curse, but the bird purposefully obscuring things from them made the Gigimon tempted to take a page out of Shade's book and just eat the feathery annoyance. Maybe return to the village of beginnings would undo the curse, but Eris was fairly certain their Tamer would have a few complaints about that.
"Are you protecting him because of the curse or are you protecting him because you want to protect him?" Eris asked softly her voice gentle in it's lilting juvenile way even if the question was a pointed one.
"Because if you're purposefully obscuring important information that could help us save you for your own personal reasons then I think there's nothing more we can do here." The Gigimon murmured as she moved to stand up hoping to pressure the Biyomon into coming clean.
"With luck the mindhealer will be able to break through your memories, but I suspect that will be ex-cru-C-ate-ingly painful and probably far more vi-O-late-ing then the likes of our questions." Eris spoke proudly sounding out the words she'd read alongside Moon even as she kept her tone sympathetic.
"But I suppose that's your choice." She quipped hopping down from her chair with the casual ease of someone who was preparing to wash their hands of the situation. After all one couldn't help someone who wouldn't help themselves. Hopefully the Gigimon's ploy and the realization of what the Biyomon would face if they failed would be enough to pull the birds beak from their own butt and get with the program.

More notes, more nos and more things that just seemed to lead them in a circle. It wasn't related to the shells itself and those shells apparently were something like hermit shells. Holly would bite her lip before jotting those down. Frowning just a little bit as they continued.
She'd continue with jotting down a note that alan in fact made the biyomon stop talking. A 'silence' that she couldn't really be any real help with. Holly would bite on the end of her pen staring quietly at the biyomon until they spoke again.
Her father pointing out that they were on the right track, but the wrong note. Then where he lived... and then more things were brought up. Something about evening hobbies, but the pause that she followed suit only brought holly's brow down. It mixed with her frown and the cat leaned forward slowly. Penning in what they were getting at here but her Da cut off what isabelle said.
Where you trying to protect him?
Holly froze at the idea of that, B's beak gave that click and the meicrackmon sighed softly. Then her ears started burning, she felt her face turn red in a blush and she'd jerk up.
"Da!"
The meicrackmon huffed, giving her father a look and continued to jot down notes. Eris had a point that there wasn't more they could do here if she was protecting them. The Meicrackmon tapped her clipboard and stared down at all the notes she had accumulated.
Scare tactic from Eris... might work...
Adding onto something like that would be difficult. So Holly instead just took note of this and simply tapped at the board a few more times.
"...Tch... I've got nothing if you don't want to cooperate. Can we even be sure the information you've been speaking or not speaking about to us is even valid?"
Not so much a scare tactic as bringing up a good point. There were things that their tamer was sharing with them, they could vouch for those but... others?

Alan, who had kept his head down and diligently recorded the information he was being provided until now, stopped dead at the suggestion that Biyomon was trying to protect Vlad. His grip on the pen tensed for the small span of silence afterwards, and after that silence practically confirmed Mikemon's suspicion, the young man had an urge to scribble everything out. But no. It was still usable. He dropped the pen and leaned back in his seat, sighing heavily.
"Okay," he said, mostly to himself, "all this means, is we have to look at what we have so far in a different context. I doubt there were any lies, probably just excluded information, but..." He sighed again. "...we can't be completely sure just yet."
After this, the young man began to speak to the group. "I must say, I'm disappointed. But I am also intrigued. Whether this is a question that can be answered now or later, I really want to know: if you're protecting Vlad, what are you protecting Vlad from? People thinking badly of him after his passing? To be honest, we came in here, and the only thing we knew of this character is that he had cursed you. Not a good start. That isn't to say I've completely dismissed him as 'evil,' but to be honest, I don't care what sort of hobbies he had. Good person or not, I just want to help with this curse. But anyway, excuse my purely speculative emotional tangent. Eris asked the most pressing question here, I say, and I sincerely hope it's one with some semblance of an easy answer."

Well, the Gigimon's words were rather cutting, weren't they? The edge of that tone definitely got a reaction out of the Biyomon, curling the edges of her wings against the chair she was sitting in. Suddenly, this questioning had all the air of an interrogation, Eris threatening to stomp out and Holly even questioning what they had asked so far.
"Well, Bi, how about it?" Even her tamer's words seemed somewhat annoyed at the situation. "I haven't seen everything - if I'd known even half of it, we wouldn't even be playing this word game at all."
Eris' act, as well as Holly's analysis and Alan's broad question gave enough time for Mikemon to compose himself, at least. "I should remind you that you have full patient-doctor privilege here. It shouldn't matter what five random people of this room think of him. Now are we going to continue or are we wasting our time?"
Mikemon's tone was more calm, at least, and Bi finally gave a slow breath out. "... Right. Back to the doctor's question, then?"
"Hm?" Even as Eris turned to the door, Bi gave a remarkably clear answer. "I might be testing the boundaries of what I can say here, but this wasn't the only time that I'd done something for Vlad."
"So the task is something you've done before?"
No answer, but the Biyomon seemed far less defensive in posture or stance. Alright, time to push a bit further on this:
"First off, has anything you told me or said today been a lie?"
"... Yes." Interesting, she was able to answer. If it wasn't important, the cat pressed for her to explain, and Bi answered: "Of what matters, the 'lie' was suggesting that the task was legal."
"... Something's telling me that this isn't as deep as we thought." Mikemon drummed his claw at the desk, deferring back to the group. "Let's assume the task is illegal, repeatable, and of low risk. Let's go from there, with what we know about Vlad up through this point."

Eris slowly relaxed even going so far as to offer the Biyomon a small apologetic nod before she returned to her seat. Circling three times before she settled down once more her little face the picture of concentration as she considered what they knew about Vlad.
"He's an independent importer in Terminus from the Dark Area. He imports enchanting crystals of sorts. We know he's had Biyo do jobs before and whatever jobs as Mister Mikemon Sir said have to be low risk and fairly repeatable as well as illegal." The little Gigimon mumbled to herself.
"Which probably rules out killing anyone and whatever the task is is not a part of his business. You mentioned you thought he might have pocketed some shells. Was he a collector of sorts? And did the task involve stealing?" Eris questioned thinking theft was for the most part probably low risk and repeatable enough, but needed to be ruled out if it wasn't what Biyo had been asked to do.

Holly frowned a little bit and rubbed at one of her cheeks as the others spoke, making sure to take down what they said. Crossing relevance with the other notes with a layered level of numbers for easy future reference. She'd grit her teeth a little bit and nodded as alan seemed to trust that not any lying being done. He covered a lot of ground just like the rest of them but he also had plenty of good points.
Then the tamer spoke to her digimon, followed quickly by the doctor who firmly approached this in a professional way. Something that would help more than hinder: giving a level or layer of comfort to a patient.
Holly would pause however when the other answered the doctor's question. How this wasn't the first time she had done something for vlad. The meicrackmon frowned a bit as her da inquired again about the task. It was something the biyomon did off before?
"So the lie was if the task was legal, you've done it before... and have to do it again... low risk, repeatable, illegal..."
The meicrackmon mused and jotted down a new branch of notes, including some tie backs to previous notes. She'd flick her ears quietly as the Gigimon addressed the matter at hand.
"Stealing would be a repeatable task, and having a specific object in mind or general spread would make it easy... Though if he was a collector..."
She'd turn her head to look at Eris before scratching at her own ear with a finger. A look of uncertainty plastered on her face.
"An illegal collection would sell for a lot and would have many interested parties to see that collection finished... Does the task require a lot of travel?"

Alan closed his eyes shortly and put a thumb and index finger up to his eyebrows. Levi took notice of this sign of mild stress and sat beside Alan to comfort him somewhat. The human opened his eyes again and sat up straight.
"Illegal. Repeatable. Low risk," he murmured softly, echoing everyone else in the room. "Theft certainly seems like the most likely option, assuming by 'low risk' we mean risk of injury or death, rather than risk of consequences in general. I know we went over this, just reviewing. Theft would also be an appropriate fit considering my earlier question regarding whether it requires interaction with a specific person or people... likely to hand whatever it is off afterwards. And... hmm..."
More silence. Alan leaned back somewhat.
"I'm fairly certain nothing else fits the bill, with everything in mind. But I suppose we're about to find out whether this assumption is correct, regardless. Until then, if there's anything I can contribute... hmm.... collection, stealing, travel, how about this one: Assuming that travel is involved in the task, if you were to begin working on the task now, with this library as your starting point, is the number of stops you would have to make more than two? I hope that question is clear enough."

Illegal, low risk, and repeatable.
The hunt was on, and the facts were organized. Vlad was an independent importer and seller in Terminus who imported enchanting crystals - something that had to be legal on its own if he did it in the open. There was the potential that it involved theft, though it would have to be something of relatively low importance and security. "Given the circumstances, stealing can be a very dangerous venture..."
Was that it? The doctor tapped his claw on the desk, 'B' listening intently to the questions at hand. Alan took his hand at something direct: "Assuming that travel is involved in the task, if you were to begin working on the task now, with this library as your starting point, is the number of stops you would have to make more than two?"
"Hm..." She seemed hesitant on if she could answer this, though the answer itself made it clear why: "The number varies. It might be more than two, but its not always the case."
Interesting - so it could involve more than one destination, or not? "Following that, is there any regularity in the stops you visit? Normal routines?"
B clicked her beak. That was a definite 'yes'. As for Holly's question: "Does the task require a lot of travel?
"Can you clarify?"
"Do you have to leave Terminus to perform the task from start to finish?"
"Oh, um, no." But it could be several stops in the city, from Alan's earlier point.
Then there was Eris' own questions: Was he a collector of sorts? And did the task involve stealing?"
"His being a collector isn't relevant to the task... and... I didn't steal anything."
"So yes, stealing is relevant but not her role." Interesting...

"Ok not stealing then, but maybe transport of stolen goods." Eris mused the little tip of her tail twitching as she stared hard the Biyomon clearly deep in thought. Her ear twitching over so often nearly in time with her tail before she narrowed her gaze her little tongue stuck between her lips as she did some quick calculations.
"Where you transporting something? And was what you were transporting always the same type of goods?" The Little Gigimon questioned unsure where to go from here before those questions were answered. Vlad very well could have used his crystal important business to import other less legal things for certain. Though of the Biyomon simply had to finish Vlad's work or run a route for him why would she need their help? Wouldn't she be able to do it alone? Unless she needed them to get whatever it was she had to transport to complete her task.

Once again they were all bouncing around pretty well, covering a good range of ideas making holly have to keep track with her notes a little more than she'd like. But it was at least making a good amount of progress. They had managed to get the biyomon to open up and to give actual answers...
Varying numbers of stops, but there is travel. There are regularity in the stops, normal routines...
Then she was asked to clarify but before she could her da piped in with what she was basiaclly asking. She'd quietly take down that as well and huff in frustration. So it was within the city and it was easy enough to be repeatable. She'd flick her ears at eris' question and then pause when the biyomon put forward that she didn't steal anything. She'd make sure to take that down and would click her tongue against the roof of her mouth. Eris seemed to have the right of it with the transportation of goods.
"So no stealing. And if she was a transporter that would be what? A runner? Is that what you were?"
She'd turn her head to look at the biyomon, staring rather curiously at them. If they didn't answer or avoided the question entirely that would be the answer right? That 'yes'. And what would come from that? What was a runner without their goods?
"So there's a bunch of stops... you didn't steal and... hmm... So being a collector didn't have a role in it... Tch..."
She'd tap her pen against the clipboard having to start on another paper already. There was a lot to keep track of...

Now this was something. Now they were getting somewhere. Biyomon was being considerably more bold with her answers, and not getting punished for it. And the way she put the emphasis on the word "I?" Beautiful. Astounding. A font of new questions to be asked. The pair had to admit to themselves - they were enjoying this now.
Alan spoke first.
"You didn't steal anything. But somebody stole something. Interesting. Holly already asked about the possibility of delivery. How about information? Does the job involve conveying information?"
Levi chimed in.
"And if it does require conveying information, are you the source of said information? In short, does the task involve reconnaissance? How about spying?"
The idea in their heads was that Biyomon might be assigned to stake out some place, and then tell someone else about what they see so that they might then do the stealing. They were intrigued by what this task could possibly be at this point, though they had the sense not to be openly excited about it. Sure, they had perked up, but they really did want to help Biyomon. Whether it was their prime motivation, they decided, was moot. The point was, they were helping to find the task, and get it done, so Biyomon could be freed, and hopefully not reveal themselves to be some restrained demon or something. That would suck.

Indeed, if this was a simple running job, then why couldn't 'B' do it herself? It was definitely a clue that something was still missing, Isabelle tapping her finger as she leaned one hand against Mikemon's desk. They had made so much progress in such a short time, but were they hitting a wall again that quick?
"I would question why a curse is needed for such a case. If it was something so well-ingrained into her routine, then-"
Wait, something clicked. There was one answer to all of this that made everything click independently. To confirm, Mikemon listened to the remaining questions: "Where you transporting something? And was what you were transporting always the same type of goods?"
"Um..." B clicked her beak, giving silence at first before shaking her head at the second. "A runner? Is that what you were?"
For this one, B considered briefly, before remaining silent. "How about information? Does the job involve conveying information?" "And if it does require conveying information, are you the source of said information? In short, does the task involve reconnaissance? How about spying?"
"Its not consistent enough that I could say one way or the other." "I know silence is a yes here, but it feels like we're going around in circles, somehow."
"Maybe a bit at the end, but I think we're at something." He could feel the gears turning, asking his own question: "Have you ever performed the task alone?"
"No..." B blinked, as the cat pressed on: "Following that, was Vlad directly involved in helping with the task?"
B blinked. Silent.
"And is the fact that you have a curse on you relevant to completing the task?"
Once more. Silent.
"... Interesting."

Eris paused eyeing the Biyomon for a long quiet moment as she considered everything laid out before them and the clues they've discovered so far. "So you need our help transporting the item in question that you're required to deliver per the curse? Do you also need our help acquiring the items?" The Gigimon questioned, after all if all they needed to do was go along with the Biyomon and make sure she stayed safe and made her deliveries that wouldn't be too difficult. Though since she did say what she was doing wasn't strictly legal if she didn't have access to whatever she needed to deliver that would be a problem.
It would mean they would need to get said items for her first which might involve stealing on their part in order to make sure the bird could even make said deliveries. Hopefully whatever the bird was running wasn't too hard or risky to get or they could simply get it from Vlads things.
