"HYAAA!" CLANG!
"HAAAH!" TINK!
"THAT - hah - ALL YOU GOT?!" BING!
The harsh sound of metal clashing against something would be audible, echoing thru the empty open air of the expansive flatlands. Paired with these sounds were that of shouting - as though someone were in an intense fight - and heavy breathing, though only the shouts could possibly carry as well as the metal clashing over the sandy dunes. At the epicenter of all this ruckus though, was a single young Spadamon - an impressively loud Spadamon, at that - by the name of Ophelia.
The small leonine digimon would be training heavily under the baking sun of the desert, striking at a spire of sturdy sandstone; one of the few rare landmarks of the desert, and perhaps dating from a time before. Countless scratches and gouges would be scored across the surface of this spire though, and many more would be added as Ophelia continued to slash at it with her trusty sword; darting in and out and bouncing about, almost as though this were a real foe. And all the same, she shouted and taunted at the spire as if it were a real foe, too - "C'MON! YOU GOT NOTHING ON ME!" - in between heavy breaths from exertion, and the heat.
Indeed, her thick fur was in no way made for the heat of the desert - she was sweltering hot, practically baking under the bright shining sun's rays, and on the hot sandy surface of the desert. But despite this, Ophelia powered through it all - she wasn't gonna let a little bit of sunshine stop her! If she couldn't handle the heat during training, then how was she ever going to make it in the digital world?? "GRRRRRRAOOWWWL!" She'd roar- lifting her sword up and letting it sheathe in a large blade of ice - before leaping forward in a overhead slash, scoring the surface with a deep vertical gouge. She would pause for a second to breathe heavily, panting, her tail tip twitching excitedly as she looked over the gouges and scratches on the spire.
Nice.... Nice. Ophelia would straighten up and grin, still panting softly, pleased with the results so far - though not necessarily satisfied. She could push herself further - she always felt as though she needed to push herself harder, to find that limit and then push beyond it - but as far as how she was going now? Well, she was pleased she hadn't passed out from the heat yet! Grinning, she would ready her blade, to get back into the routine and regiment, though that was when the wind around her would whip up, kicking up sand and dust. Though she would raise an arm to protect her eyes from the dust, she could just make out in her peripherals the gathering clouds of sand - the sign of what was to be a nasty sandstorm.
"Oh shit-" She muttered in alarm- before deciding to turn and make a run for it, running across the sands in the opposite direction of the brewing sandstorm. Nope, she wasn't about to deal with her shiny armor getting sandblasted today! She just polished it all!
As she fled across the desert though, shimmering shapes would become visible over the horizon. She was unsure of what exactly these shapes could be, given the distance and shimmering - but was not about to be discouraged by this, between her own foolhardiness and the approaching sandstorm. She'd make a beeline for the shapes at a breakneck pace, watching as - much to her relief - the shapes seemed to in fact be buildings! A town, maybe?? It was hard to tell, the wind blowing from behind her - which meant it was difficult to pick up any distinct scents in the air - but she was nonetheless thankful for her luck. She had a place to hide from the sand now!
As Ophelia got closer, the edge of the sandstorm would be nearing- the sand in the air making it gradually more and more difficult to see very far. But all the same, the buildings would be nearby as well - and she would duck into the first one she could find the doorway to, closing the old rotted door behind her - before slumping against the door with a heavy "Whew..." Safe. The door would shudder from the howling winds and sand battering against it, but it otherwise held well enough against the sandstorm; a quiet little shelter. It was then that she'd notice that the place seemed to have seen better days, with how old and broken down everything looked... But eh, she wasn't going to complain; beggars can't be choosers.
Instead, she'd simply sit down against one of the walls, taking off her armor, to look it and her sword over - doing some upkeep and maintenance on them as she waited for the storm to pass.

Ophelia however would find she was far from alone in the room. In the far corner what had looked like a worn and sand covered bundle of rags shifted. A pair of blue eyes peaking out at the noise as the little figure rose to her foot and shook. Shedding sand this way and that revealing a Gigimon covered with desert rags to keep off the hot sun or they would have if there was sun to keep off. The sky by now was dark with sand outside as the storm raged. The same storm that had sent the In-Training digimon scurrying for cover moments before the Spadamon had.
"You're moving the wetstone of the blade too fast." The little Gigimon pointed out in way of greeting as she tilted her head at the fluffy white furred rookie. "Do you have any weapon oil?" She asked tail twitching the rasp of metal having awoken her from her exhausted doze. You could after all take the daughter out of the forge, but not the forge out of the Daughter.

The sound of shifting cloth wouldn't be missed by Ophelia's attentive ears- even with the sounds of the howling wind from outside of the building. She'd glance up with faint surprise, her tailtip twitching noticeably as she peered to the dark corner - at first in alarm, surprised that she hadn't noticed that she wasn't alone (though really, she'd probably chalk that up to her nerves; given the sandstorm.) Upon seeing the little Gigimon shake off the rags and sand though, and realizing it wasn't any threatening digimon, she'd relax noticeably; her tail no longer twitching.
At Eris' comment-slash-greeting, Ophelia's ears flicked a bit, unsure of how to take the comment initially. Though as she'd glance down to her Blue Blade, the sword on her lap and the whetstone in question in one hand, she'd realize that the Gigimon was right. "Ah... Yeah, it's in here..." She'd mention as she began to regain her composure - reaching for her bag and digging thru it. She'd pull out the bottle of weapon oil, setting it and the whetstone down as she took a second to stretch her arms and run her claws thru her mane to calm herself a little bit. That sandstorm was something a little new for her, certainly different from being caught in a blizzard - and she supposed that she was still a little on edge even after having gotten to shelter.
Once she finally found her voice proper though, she'd glance to the Gigimon, commenting "You seem to know your stuff for a little fella." She'd smile a little; there was a certain hint of cockiness, given Ophelia's usual nature, but it was friendly otherwise as she asked "Your momma or dad a smith?" It was clear she didn't realize that Eris - though an in-training right now - was actually something much tougher, and certainly tougher than herself. Thus, she was more or less treating Eris like a kid - though she was still being respectful. Or, at least, as respectful as a spitfire kiddo like herself could get - her parents weren't exactly one to teach formal manners and whatnot. Either way though, she was listening to Eris, and wasn't dismissing anything being said.

While the potential lurked within the tiny Gigimon she was at the moment merely that. A tiny in training Digimon who blinked up at Ophelia letting out a pleased hum that the leonine rookie did indeed have weapon oil. "You should do slower smoother motions down the length of the blade then go over it with a thin sheen of oil. Dad says that helps keep the blade sharp." She explained as she stretched reaching her little legs out in front of her, tail twitching with the catlike motion before she yawned.
"I'm Eris by the way!" She chirped greeting the Spadamon cheerfully if still somewhat sleep mussed from her little nap. "And my Dad isn't just a smith! He's the best smith!" Eris corrected cheerfully as she beamed up at her companion in sandy confines tail wagging.
"Though you probably shouldn't be so hard on your weapon. What did you do hit a rock with it?" The little Gigimon questioned eyeing the blunted edge of the sword with mild curiosity.

Ophelia would glance down at her blade, before nodding - taking her time with the motions of the whetstone this time, as she ran it over her blade. "Yeah," She'd sigh, before giving the Gigimon a small grin, admitting "I guess I was just a little on edge from barely getting outta that storm; I tend to do this to unwind and calm down, but sometimes it doesn't calm me down right away." with a soft, sheepish laugh - she wasn't usually one to get unsettled by things! But she was unfamiliar with this place, and the storm sort of took her by surprise.
At the introduction though, she'd grin a little brighter and nod a second time - "Name's Ophelia! My mom taught me what I know 'bout swords n stuff myself, though she's not really a smith. More a warrior? She's a big ol' tough Blizzarmon, with twin axes!" It was clear Ophelia looked up to her mother, with the fond tone she spoke with when talking about her, and the way she would mime swinging around imaginary axes. "And your dad's the best smith, huh?" Ophelia looked a bit interested in that, and would add jokingly "Maybe you could put in a couple good words for me and he could touch up my blade, ay?" She'd laugh softly with this, but would shake her head - "Nah, just joking- I'd pay him for it if I had the bits. I'm relatively fresh though, started traveling 'round not too long ago; and I imagine his work ain't cheap!"
Eris' comment on her sword and, well, hitting a rock with it would make Ophelia pause a second though, before she began laughing a bit sheepishly. "Mix of that, and it having been awhile - I need to keep myself sharp, but I've not had much luck in finding people to train against! Sooooo... I've been training against inanimate objects instead, until I find someone tough enough to fight." She mentioned. "My sword's pretty sturdy though, it's held up against worse; and if worst comes to worst...." She'd set her whetstone aside, and would instead focus on the blade - running her hand along it, and coating it with a sheen of ice, with a sharp edge to match. "... I can do this! It's made to hold up to cold n' shit, so I can do this as much as I like in a pinch; and it'll still be plenty sturdy, with the ice making it as sharp as I need it to be! Just a bit exhausting if I do it too much in one sitting,"
Once the demonstration done though, she'd dismiss the ice - it melting and quickly fading away - before going back to maintenance, with Eris' guidance in mind. As she did though, Ophelia glanced up to the little Gigimon, and would curiously ask "What brings you out here, anyways; are you traveling 'round like me?" She'd tilt her head a little in a thoughtful fashion, before adding "I'd think it'd be a bit dangerous for a little fella such as yourself to be traveling around, but I suppose being small makes it easier to run and hide if you do get into danger."

"Maybe. My Dad does make the best sword." Eris chirped, "It's nice to meet you Ophelia." She added though she couldn't help, but blink a little at the other Digimon's name. It was a strange name, almost human sounding, but maybe her Mom was just a little strange. Eris knew her own name and her Father and Mothers name had supposedly been derived from human mythology, but given how human mythology and digital fact bled together so often it was hard to tell the exact origin.
"I'm traveling with my Square Alpha, but we got separated in the storm. He's helping me find my way home." She explained beaming up at Ophelia as she spoke her her friend.
"He's a silver Dorumon. Have you seen him by chance?" Eris questioned glancing towards the door that rattled with the force of the storm raging outside. "I hope he's ok, but he does seem to know the desert a lot better then I do." She murmured mostly to herself with a frown as she weighed the pros and cons of going out and searching for him. In the end though she knew she was just too small. A harsh gust of wind and she'd be blown away and the chances of finding her friend with her.

"Good to meet ya too!" Ophelia responded cheerily, adding "And heh, maybe if I ever hit it big, I'll go visit your dad and ask him to make me a cool-ass sword! I'd love to see his work sometime." The idea of getting a big fancy sword appealed to her, even if her Blue Blade was super sentimental. As far as her name went though, she never really considered the origins of it - it didn't exactly help that she had no clue what a human actually was, given how she and her family lived in the more treacherous parts of the Terabyte Mountains before she set off on her own. Only sorts she's ever met out there are other digimon made for the cold like herself, and perhaps a couple of travelers once - though she was so young then that she didn't remember much of it.
At the mention of Alpha, and the question, though - Ophelia shook her head. "Don't believe so, I didn't exactly get much of a chance to look around before the storm forced me to take shelter." She'd admit, frowning a little at the idea of little Eris having been separated from her friend, let alone possibly having gotten lost. "I could help you look for him though, if you'd like - once the storm dies down some, that is." Her senses were pretty sensitive, which she was sure would help in such a case! Though as it was now, the sandstorm would probably overwhelm any of her senses - hard to see past the sand, hard to hear past the howling wind, hard to smell past either! Though, with the previous mention of Eris possibly being far from home, she couldn't help but be curious; "Where do you come from, in any case?" By now, Ophelia would've finished going over her sword with the whetstone, and would give it a couple swings in the air, before she began to take the weapon oil and apply it- being mindful not to add too much. "If we can't find your friend, maybe I could at least help you get home, instead?"

"My Dad does make the best cool ass swords though he's not super fond of using them. Too impersonal in his opinion." Eris chirped glancing at the howling wind that rattled the door once more before ambling over to Ophelia's side and carving herself out a little nest in the sand. Lining it with the rags she's previously been wearing she circled around twice to pat down the sand and then laid down her little chin propped up on her front legs.
"I'm from the Empyrean skies. My Dad and my Family and I all live on this big floating island with a fort called ICY Fate. My Dad works as the smith for the fort and as a knight. They do all sorts of cool research and stuff in the labs there or take care of problems for Luminas." The little Gigimon explained nodding along to Ophelia's suggestion of looking for Alpha later before she quirked a fin like ear at the other Digimon.
"What about you? Where are you from?" She asked with a curious tilt of her head.

Ophelia watched as Eris got comfortable at her side, and would grin a little, before similarly getting comfy - half-curling around the perimeter of Eris' 'nest,' lounging almost like a housecat might as she stretched her limbs out and idly kneaded at the packed sand underneath her claws with a soft, relaxed "Prrrr...." Once she got properly comfy though, she'd nod to Eris. "Makes sense, I guess? If he wants to use something, it'll be something he's made for himself, right?" She'd ask in clarification, tilting her head a bit.
At hearing that Eris was from the Empyrean skies though, well... Ophelia blinked. "... Well, firstly, that's friggin' cool." She'd start - being a knight? Research stuff in labs? That sounded all pretty neat! Especially the knight bit, she couldn't help but wonder what kind of digimon Eris' dad must've been. But the Empyrean Skies, well... "But secondly... I don't exactly have wings, so I guess we're screwed on the going straight home front, unless we found someone to carry us up there - or your friend." She'd sometimes catch glimpses of the clouds of the Empyrean Skies, during the rare days when she got a clear view of the sky from the family den or during treks in the Terabyte Mountains- and though she didn't know much about the place beyond its name and it being home to tons of vaccine-type digimon, one thing she did know is that it was - well - very high up.
She was broken from her thoughts when Eris asked her own questions though, Ophelia's ears perking a bit in acknowledgement. "Oh, yeah! I'm from up north - Northern Prominence!" Ophelia grinned a bit, idly kneading at the sand once more as she thought of home. "I lived with my mama, dad, and littermates up in Terabyte Mountains - though when my siblings started getting old enough to take care of themselves, I decided to set off and see the world, and get strong like my parents!" Her tail would be swishing noticably with eagerness at this declaration, she wanted to become big and strong and something her mom and dad would be proud of! "What's it like up in the Empyrean Skies? Is it windy? It sort of seems like a place that'd be super windy, like the mountains get sometimes! Is it cold or warm up there?"

"Oh no. My Dad just prefers the punch the everliving shit out of things." Eris clarified though it was likely her response left more questions then answers in regards to her Father. Hephaestus after all was far from a normal Gallantmon by even digital standards. Then again Eris was far from a normal Mon herself so perhaps like Father like Daughter.
"Oh the Empyrean Skies. Well uh I live on one of the big floating islands so we have this sorta shield on it that keeps the weather nice. It can be a little windy at times, but it's not too different from here on the ground. It's big enough the island makes it's own weather inside the shield sometimes so we get rainshowers and stuff, but not really big storms. I hadn't seen a big thunderstorm till I wound up down here." The Gigimon explained trying to think of what else she could tell the Spadamon.
"I'm trying to reach Terminus to find a flying Digimon that can take me home since my island moves a lot. So I need someone who knows where it is." She added nodding sagely before perking up at the mention of Terabyte Mountain. "Ooo that sounds really cool! What's it like there? Is there snow? I've never seen snow before, but I've read about it."

As it might've been expected, it certainly left some questions for Ophelia - primarily, in just what type of digimon Eris' dad even was! Did digimon like Eris digivolve into some sort of punchy fella like how her own dad was? Though, even with these questions in mind, she'd grin and laugh a bit "Hell yeah! I love my sword, but getting a good punch in feels great too!" She'd remark - pumping a fist in the air, as though to prove the point.
As for the Empyrean Skies though, Ophelia listened with visible curiosity, her ears perked and swiveled to Eris as she listened closely. So it was more temperate, she guessed? And having a shield that keeps the weather nice... That sounded pretty cool! Maybe she could get a small shield to deal with these places, where it's all hot n' sunny; not that she couldn't deal with the sun (except that she didn't want to admit that she was probably on the verge of a heatstroke towards the end of that training session,) but she'd rather not to if she could help it. "That sounds really cool!" Ophelia would remark though, her tail swishing. "I've never actually seen it properly rain before - it usually only snows back home. Though..." She'd tilt her head a little in thought, remarking "I've heard of Terminus, but I've never actually seen it before either. Mama mentioned once before that it was towards the middle, though?"
Speaking of snow and so on, though... "But yeah! There's lots of snow back home - when I was an in-training like you, it'd sometimes get deeper than I was tall! Mama or Dad would carry me and my siblings so that we wouldn't sink right in, until we learned to navigate it on our own." Ophelia would gesture the height of the snow with a hand, as though to get her point across, before continuing "It's almost always snowing or storming up in the mountains - and it's super cold, but digimon like me have thick fur made to deal with it. And cause we lived in the higher-up parts of it, on the occasional days where it's not foggy or storming, I could see so much of the digital world!" She'd grin widely and happily, mentioning "And on the even rarer days where it was clear-skies too, it was so pretty seeing the light glittering off the surface of all the snow, and sometimes getting to even see the night sky!"

"That sounds really pretty," Eris murmured eyes wide and watchful her rapt attention centered solely upon Ophelia as she listened to the Spadamon's tale. She couldn't imagine so much snow. The picture in her mind coming back looking more like a half erased sketch with everything covered in white then what she imagined it really looked like. Though she could understand seeing the stars.
"I used to like to sit on one of the balconies of the castle with my Uncle and watch as the world passed by under the island. Sometimes my cousin Leo would take me flying on clear nights and the stars were so big and bright they looked like you could snatch them out of the sky. I wonder how strong you'd have to be to steal stars out of the sky. Can a Digimon that strong even exist?" The little Gigimon quietly questioned as much to Ophelia as of herself though if such a thing could occur.
"I'm gonna be the first." She nods with decisive firmness and imagines herself wielding a weapon made of starlight and fire like a roaring comet.

"It's definitely pretty up there." Ophelia would agree with a slow nod - it almost made her miss home. This was her first time traveling out so far, to someplace new, that it was almost a little overwhelming sometimes when she really thought about it... Maybe when she got a chance, she'd wander back to the Prominence - not to go home, but just... To wander somewhere more familiar to her for a bit. "You do have to be careful, though - the blizzards and storms can get nasty, sometimes even to digimon like me - and footing can be treacherous too; but my parents taught me how to be careful moving around up there. Avalanches can be really dangerous, too, though they don't happen often. But if you are able to deal with the dangers, it's amazing just... Sitting out there, admiring the view, seeing all the places out there that you could travel to, with just a little bit of work and trekking around."
As Eris talked about her own home, though, she'd glance over to the Gigimon - similarly enthralled at just listening to her own tale of home. To the idea of one day being able to steal the stars above. Being the confident and spunky little lion that Ophelia was, she'd grin widely - stating in a peppy, determined tone "Hell yeah! I'm sure you'd be able to get to that point; you just gotta believe in it, and work at it!" She'd raise a hand to offer Ophelia a fistbump, adding "I'll work at getting there, too, n' make my parents proud - we could be like friendly rivals, even!" The idea of having someone to compete against - even in a friendly context - appealed to her. Someone she could use as a benchmark to see how she was doing, someone she could encourage to get better both as a friend, and to keep being challenged, to raise that benchmark!

"Sure! I don't have a rival yet, but I have to warn you I won't be easy to beat." Eris cautioned brimming with pride her little ears twitching with excitement. Sitting up from her makeshift nest she offered Ophelia one of her forelegs to shake looking to seal the deal.
"Still your home sounds really nice. I'd like to travel there one day I think. Once I've gotten back home that is and let my family know I'm ok." She added as she settled back down onto her belly the light fading from outside as the storm raged on. Dim daylight giving into pitch black night as the winds rocked the ruins howling eerie notes through empty windows and doors giving rise to a desolate tune. From where she laid curled Eris shivered. Her soft scales shifting slightly with a motion brought on more by wariness then the cold that had slowly crept over the dunes. Stealing over the desert like a silent traveler marking their steps with frost.

"Heh, I'd hope not- I won't be any pushover either!" Ophelia would declare with similar pride and eagerness - tailtip twitching excitedly. She'd give the Gigimon's stubby little foreleg a gentle fistbump - her own version of sealing the deal - and would reach up to gently 'ruffle' the top of Eris' head, even if there wasn't much to ruffle. "We'll need to help ya digivolve to a rookie, so we can do some sparring sometime!" She'd mention with a grin - adding "Unless you ever wanted to spar with me as a Wanyamon; though I wanna be able to have us both at our fullest if possible!"
At the mention of traveling towards the Terabyte Mountains though, Ophelia nodded. "I'll come with ya whenever you're feeling up to it - I could introduce you to my family, and teach ya how to navigate it like we do." She'd decide, smiling warmly. "I'd love to go up to the Empyrean Skies myself, sometime; maybe if I digivolve into something with wings!" She'd laugh a little with the thought; what kind of digimon could she digivolve into that had wings, she wondered?
As night began to fall though, and the air grew cold, Ophelia would blink a little; her sensitive eyes allowed her to see at least half-decently in the dark, but without any light source like a moon or stars, it was a little difficult. The cold air, too, she found more a relief than anything; her thick fur letting her handle it with ease. As for the howling and eerie wind, though... She'd glance over to Eris - noticing that the other digimon seemed uneasy. Or cold - it was hard to say - but either way, it pulled at the heartstrings of that more protective side of her to see the smaller digimon shivering like this.
Quietly, slowly - as to not startle Eris - she'd curl up around the Gigimon, to protect her from the cold, and provide some comfort. Her fur was soft and warm, and being this close - a soft purring was audible, her own way of trying to reassure Eris. "You okay?" She'd ask - her tone was surprisingly soft and gentle, a noticeable difference from her rambunctiousness of before.
