It was part of his job really, to help those that couldn't help themselves understand themselves and their mental needs. He always had an open door policy to those that needed it and his front desk helper was always kind enough to let those know if he was busy or not.
Today was one of those days where he wasn't very busy. Didn't have any scheduled appointments for the day or for the following day. It made things easy for him and easy for others to get their mental health on track. Though as of late he had been seeing a steep decline in younger individuals while seeing a surprising jump in older ones. It made him realize that he had to push more, had to get those pamphlets out to schools more.
Which wasn't hard, all he had to do was send a few to the school itself and they'd distribute it easy enough. Quick enough to where if someone did have problems they could come to him. Quick enough to where he could send it to business locales and other stops as well.
"We have anyone stop in yet?"
The larger man would call out from his office to his clerk, who with a small laugh simply shook her head. Shelton had an easy view from his desk and simply sighed. He'd lean back and drum his fingers on his desk giving a quick frown and a quicker look at the clock on his desk.
13:00
Sure it was a bit after lunch and most people would either be at work or school... but that didn't stop people from coming in when they truly needed help. Nor would it stop them from taking the elevator to the third floor. Nor would it stop them from coming to the vaulted room 363...
Right...
If that was the case he probably would have more visitors or patients!

It started two weeks ago.
She had been at work outside the host club, dressed up in overalls with a blue shirt because it had been Wonderland theme week and they had been Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, sent out to invite people to enjoy the queen's deck and-
That wasn't important, what was important was who she had seen. On the other side of the road, walking back from probably a bar with his coworkers, a slight fake smile on his face.
She'd frozen, and then gotten the shakes. And now, standing outside an office with an address on her phone that matched the numbers by the door she had the shakes again.
There was an anger in her and it burned hot and violently but she didn't know what to do with it. Didn't know what she would do with it if she had seen him off the clock and alone instead of when she was convincing other women to spend their money having a drink and an hour or two of playful fantasy.
Hiroyo took a deep breath and opened the door to step into the office. The waiting room was empty, there was a woman sitting behind the front counter. The color on the walls was exactly what she had expected.
She put her smile in place and walked up to the counter. She pulled her wallet from her purse and smiled to the woman. Her hand shook a little. "Hello, do you take walk-ins?"

Shelton wasn't new to this entire stick, he knew tha tthere would be dead times and that he would get bored waiting in his office from time to time. He just wasn't expecting it during these particular months. However when he heard someone approach the counter and speak to his helper he'd perk up. Even going so far to sticking his head around the corner curiously to see who it was.
No one he knew, it was entirely someone new and someone that he hadn't even seen walking around as of late. So she must of likely been from another ward or perhaps it was the difference of schedules. He'd quietly pull back and rub his bearded chin. What could be ailing this one he wondered? What inner demons did they have to fight to come to him?
He'd trot over to his desk and take a seat looking over his scheduale for the day waiting to see who he would be dealing with the moment the helper entered in their information.
Now the helper on the other hand? Well she'd perk up at seeing Hiroyo approach, returning that smile with a somewhat cheerful one. Her eyes flicking to that shaking hand and making note to include that for later if needed.
"We do. Just need a name and phone number to start. Have you been with us before?"
She'd rapidly punch in a few things on the keyboard, bringing up a new page for the other while keeping a search bar open for previous patients. She knew that this one hadn't been here before but it was part of protocol to ask anyways! Regardless of the answer Hiroyo would be set up with an 'appointment' fairly quickly.
It wouldn't even be that long before she was sitting in a 'waiting' chair for shelton to come and get her. Further still Shelton seemed to have a new pad of paper just for Hiroyo out and would offer his hand when introducing himself. That cheerful smile crossing his face quite easily.
"Ms. Oda? I'm Dr. Clives. Or Shelton if you prefer. My office is ready for you."

Hiroyo's smile became a little more confident as she received and affirmative. The little ember of rage was still there, but she didn't feel it's burning quite so keenly as before.
"Glad to hear! I haven't been here before but my name is Oda, Hiroyo and my number is..." She rattled off the phone number at a slow enough pace that it would be easy for the receptionist to write it down. She was careful to speak clearly, no sense making the poor woman's life any harder than it needed to be.
Soon enough she was done with giving her information and her butt had just touched the chair when Dr. Clives entered. She looked up from her purse as she stood then kept looking up until she finally saw his face. She didn't quite have to crane her head completely against her back but it was a very near thing with the size difference!
"It's uh, a pleasure to meet you!" She agreed, reaching out to give him a firm shake. His hand was so big! And his smile was so big! And he was so big! Her brain was having trouble moving past the mere fact of Shelton's existance at the moment and it showed in the way she stumbled her words. She didn't even have the brainpower to worry about if she was acting appropriately or not. "I, uh, guess I'm ready then!"
The words couldn't be further from the truth but if he led the short way to his office she would sedately follow and take the first seat pointed out to her.
For a moment his sheer size had put her off-guard, but in this case that was probably a good thing.

The desk attendant gave a firm smile and nodded her head as the other confirmed what she already knew. There wasn't any trouble really setting up the information that they needed. It was nice that she spoke clearly and slowly to let her sort of trail on. Not like she wasn't good at her job mind you!
Shelton on the other hand seemed pleasantly amused at how Hiroyo craned her head back to look up at him. It was sometimes a treat, sometimes it was silly considering his regulars tended to forget how big he was and re-enacted that scene over an' over. There was a firm shake and that smile widened a bit.
"Likewise Ms. Oda."
She seemed to stumble a bit which of course was natural but he wouldn't really worry about it too much. He'd take a seat in a sizable chair, give his pen a tap to make sure it had plenty of ink so he could take notes and before too long the Desk assistant would close the door itself. He always had a nasty habit of forgetting the door in his want to help others so...
"Well Ms. Oda. Not many people come to me for little things. It's nothing new what my job is and what I'm supposed to do to help others. So the easiest thing you can do for me is to tell me what's wrong and we can move from there. Take all the time you need."
Then the sound of a pen clicking to the ready and that earnest smile. He wasn't rushing her and he hadn't punched that timer on his desk. In fact by the looks of it it never had been used before and just was there for decoration. Either that meant he was keenly aware of the time or didn't care to keep track of the time so people didn't feel rushed.

Hiroyo slipped into her seat with graceful ease, her legs crossing at the ankle as she slipped her purse off her shoulder and into her lap. She kept her hands on either side of it as she smiled at Dr. Clives as he took his seat. It was a practiced move, one that kept her hands from fidgeting and fussing with the nerves she was feeling.
At least for the moment.
It was a relief to have the timer left untouched, the thought of time ticking away in that manner would have made the girl even more anxious than she already was, although she concealed it mostly well she found herself as nervous as if she were walking into some darkened space in the digital world.
A silly fear, she was far safer here than she ever would be over there. No giant monsters to break through the walls, no insidious shadows dogging her footsteps. She took a breath after completing her mental checklist and willed her heart to ease.
"Thank you. It seems rather silly to talk about in hindsight, but the situation was rather stressful at the time." She began, forcing her brain back on track. There was a topic she was here for, and the memory of it stirred the embers in her heart of anger but also of shame. Dr. Clives won't have to wait long for her to speak again.
"I just, I thought I saw someone you see," She said hen gave a little self-deprecating laugh. Her hands tightened on her purse. "Its stupid and impossible and I just haven't been at ease since!"
