"God damn it..."
Swearing under her breath, Syre found herself back in her room at the Library, and not in the best of ways. Sitting in the middle of her bed, with her arms wrapped around her knees, the BlackGatomon found herself distraught and sulking.
All she had done was help out that Wraithmon, so why did it have to turn out like this? Sure, that Lilamon paid her for it, but she didn't think much of it at all, at the time. Ethical violations? Endangering a precious insect environment? Apparently Dr. Mikemon himself had made the investigation order for those out on missions during that time. And because of that?
Well, she lost her mission permit!
"Stupid, stupid... ugh!" Lightly bumping her head against her arms, Syre gave a frustrated growl. Apparently this was them being lenient, and things were far worse for the Lilamon - but what was the cat supposed to do with her license suspended!?

She had been told just about everything regarding this situation, from the wraithmon that her daughter helped. To the lilamon that had broken regulations, to the ethical violations to the endangering some sort of insect environment. Each step was carefully explained to her and at the very end she was told about the punishment for both her daughter and the lilamon.
K frowned a little bit and crumpled up the paper explaining that syre's licence had been suspended. Tossing it to one side she'd stare at the door leading to her daughter's room. There was a few moments and she'd narrow her eyes slightly before going to the door. She'd flick an ear and hear that 'stupid stupid'. With a low growl she'd knock on the door before opening it up.
"Syre?"
She would peer in, stare at her daughter and then frown. Noting that they were sitting on the bed in such a fashion she'd sigh and go over to the bed. It would maybe be a moment or two before she'd take a seat at the foot of the bed and scratch at her muzzle. Her tone was gentle and she'd give her daughter a small smile...
"I heard about what happened."

"Ugh..."
Hearing that knock at the door, K's voice calling out inside, Syre did not immediately look up. No, she simply stared to the foot of her bed: she could tell just from K's tone that she knew what had happened. And as K sat in front of her, resting a hand on her shoulder, even giving a smile, Syre would curl her head behind her crossed arms.
"Hmph..."
She gave a sigh, casting her glance away. It was very clear that she was upset, that tense feeling unmistakable as K would rest a hand at her shoulder.
"... It's not fair." She gave a huff, finally breaking her silent streak on the matter. "I mean, he told me he wanted to see Whitewater! How was it wrong? He spoke, he understood, he didn't like where he was... gah!" The cat hit the side of her hand against her bed, before turning around, burying her face in her pillow!
"What am I supposed to do without it... I wanted to..." She grit her teeth, feeling her eyes start to water.

The renamon found herself frowning a bit as syre curled her head inwards. She'd sigh softly and reach forward to gently re-assure the other. She could understand why she was tense, why she was upset. But that's why she was here.
"I know sweetheart. You made a call. You tried to help, you tried to to make a situation better for someone without knowing what would come from it."
The renamon shifted a little bit and watch her daughter bury her face in her pillow. The renamon's frown deepened and she'd slowly reach over to firmly rub one of syre's shoulders.
"Well I can tell you one thing you can do, you can stop treating it like it's the end of the world."
K shifted to slowly shift and stretch, cracking her neck a little bit and shaking her head. There was a lot she could say but Syre probably wouldn't like half of it anyways.
"Because even without a mission pass does that stop you from doing what you want to do? Does it stop you from trying to help people? No. It doesn't. Sure it's one of the bigger sanctioned organizations out there and they have a lot of pull."
She'd gaze down at her daughter and give her a small smile.
"besides it's suspended not revoked. Which means it'll come back, but during that time you can also learn more about what you want to do. What you can do for others. Besides, when the dice are really on the table no one's going to think twice about mission permits or the like. They'll look for people that can act on their gut. You chose to do that because it felt like the right thing to do, consequences or not. And sometimes helping people doesn't have a right or wrong answer. You just do what you can."
The renamon leaned a little bit and stared at the blackgatomon.
"You moved him to someplace better. You patched him up. And now because of him being moved he's being given a chance at a fuller life because of you."
There was a long pause and the renamon would rub the other's back softly.
"I am very proud of you Syre."

"Tch..."
K had one thing right at the start - Syre wasn't going to like hearing a lot of this. Yes, Syre tried to help and make a situation better, but she was still being cited for it. At this point, what did it matter if she did what she thought was right?
She was just going to get in trouble for it anyway!
It wasn't as easy as 'not treating it like the end of the world'. As K started to speak, her ear gave a flick, the Renamon moving through each point. Did it stop her from trying to help people? Well, no, and she did understand that she'd get her license back in a month or two, pending a proper class. But then K said something that did catch her attention: that Syre's ability to just do what needed to be done had value. That K was proud. And that the Wraithmon was heading towards a better life.
Slowly, the cat raised her head, her breathing becoming a bit more steady. "... T-thanks, mom." She gave a sigh, gathering her thoughts. "I guess... I thought I knew what I wanted to do, or at least, kind of? Ugh... and for dad to open the investigation like that - I mean, I know its not his fault, but..."
It still didn't sit all that well with her. "What would you do? In my spot, I mean."

K gently kept rubbing syre's back, staring down at her daughter with a sad somewhat soft smile. She was glad that she could be here for syre to help her along in what was definitely a hard time for her. The renamon flicked an ear quietly and watched her daughter react to what she had been saying. There was a little impact here or there, but some of her words seemed to resonate better than others. The steadying of breath made the renamon tilt her head, and she'd watch her daughter raise her head.
"Anytime Sweetheart. Things change over time and what we want to do change too. Your father took the steps he knew he needed to, and the repercussions that followed were because of your actions. There is nothing to change that, but even with that it still proves that you can act and have the ability to act even in a situation you're unfamiliar with."
The renamon paused and blinked a few times when asked what she would do in the situation syre was in. Bringing that comforting hand up to her chin the renamon thoughtfully mulled it over.
"Hmm. In this sort of situation? Well. Find the appropriate steps for what I had done before. Find the proper channels, learn about what I did wrong and how I could do it right in the future. Ethical violation, why? What makes it that? How do I avoid making it that? Environmental impacts? Where could I of placed him that wouldn't of had such a large impact. Who do I talk to about it? You made a mistake and it's best to learn the ins and outs of it so you know what to do when a situation like this rears its head again. It's what I've done with the spires, D-reapers and such."
The renamon shrugged a bit and scratched at her cheek. Though one of them required her dying of all things for her to really learn her lesson there... but she wasn't about to bring that up.
"I'd also see what I could do short notice to improve my standing in a circle that is now 'wary' of me. Communicate and see where I could go with what you know?"

That was the blunt truth of it, of course: she truly had no-one else to blame for this but herself, even if she didn't know what she did was wrong at the time. And as K said what she'd do... well, it was about the same as she figured, herself.
Namely, 'go out and try and figure out what happened', to learn and try to not do it again. Of course, K had a point: this was merely a 'stumbling' at an early point, and going out to try and learn would show her good faith in trying to fix her mistake. It did feel a bit ironic that this was more-or-less the opposite of what Holly could do in her own situation... but that was neither here nor there.
"Basically, make a good effort at it, right?" Through her somber expression, Syre managed a small smile, before falling backward, resting her head on her pillow. "I... I guess the timing for this was just bad. I convinced myself that I wanted to be a Field Ranger or something like that, but this whole mess made me question it. And when I've been tired of being frustrated at it, I thought of what else I could do. I know I don't want to be like Cassandra or any mess she and her group gets into - and I'm not much into anything medical like my dad. Though..."
She managed a chuckle. "Maybe it wouldn't be bad to be one of your Knights."

K tilted her head a little bit as syre took in what she said. It was good advice honestly; or at least K thought so. It was really the only sort that she could give regarding this situation. She'd blink a few times and watch her daughter quietly.
"That's right..."
The renamon would lean forward a bit and clasp her hands together, resting her elbows on her legs and just listened to her daughter. She had wanted to be a field ranger? The renamon blinked a few times and turned her head a little bit. This whole mess making her question that; made her firm on the idea of not wanting to be like Cassandra. Which... made sense to K; K wouldn't of wanted to get involved too deep either unless she had to and was glad that they had a mutual non-aggression and even could consider one another allies.
And she wasn't really into anything medical. Which made K furrow her brow a little bit. She'd open her mouth to speak and then pause at the joking chuckle about being one of her knights. She'd fall flat and scratch at one of her ears. Syre as one of her knights? Well it wouldn't be too far out of the question but... Siris was only getting put into it because of a few things.
"A Field ranger is difficult work and I can't blame you for not wanting to be in the sort of business Doctor Cross is in. I'm surprised as I thought that you wanted to be like your father; maybe that's just my mistake."
There was a long pause and she'd stare down at her daughter quietly. Then slowly reach forward before patting the other's head gently. There was a soft shrug and she'd return to staring forward for a few long moments.
"You'd be busy that's for sure. Training, studying, fighting, traveling. It's not something I'd ask you to do unless you wanted to, but I also don't want to just jump on you for that sort of thing without you really examining your options. You know why siris went for it yes?"

K thought Syre wanted to be like her dad? The BlackGatomon gave a chuckle, shaking her head. "Dad is incredible at what he does... but honestly, I don't think I could go through everything he does. He's a bit dry when he talks in office visits, but he treats every one of his patients with the best of care - and feels every bit of pain that his patients feel."
She shuddered at that thought. "A-and I'm not so good with, well, looking at the 'insides' of others, anyway." That second part was a good-enough reason for most, especially Syre. But the Knights? The cat listened intently on what K had to say: that she wanted her to look into the rest of her options. After all, why had Siris joined?
"... Because it was the only opportunity he had?" She loved her brother, of course, but she might be the first to admit that he was a bit 'slow', as well as being a spacey, fantasy-obsessed Renamon with no real ambition. She didn't stay on that tone for long though, simply letting out a short sigh.
"... I'm considering it. Very strongly, actually."

K paused and stared at her daughter, yes her husband was incredible at what he did. And how he went about it, saving many lives over the course of time. Hers included, but with syre admitting to her mother that she didn't think she could do it made the renamon consider other options. At that shudder however she'd reach over to gently rub the shoulder of the blackgatomon.
"He loves what he does, he puts his core and soul into making people better. I can't blame you for not being good with it, took me a while to get used to it myself."
The renamon shook her head and flicked her ears; she felt an uneasy chuckle work it's way from her throat at that gentle nudge at her brother. He had other opportunities yes; but it was the only one that was so blatantly obvious that the renamon herself would of been foolish to really go for something else for her son. There was a soft sigh that escaped her and she'd slowly stand up after a few long moments.
"Well. If you're considering it so strongly I suppose I should tell you the rules and such of them shouldn't I?"
The renamon paused and looked down at her daughter; they were simple rules. Simple instructions to keep the group as a whole out of trouble. Things that K herself followed and expected the others to do the same. So she'd take the time to explain the rules, the titles, what Syre would have to do in order to be 'accepted' into the order itself. How leadership worked and well... the few others that were a part of it. Even going so far to touch on the rare objects known as 'Artifacts'.
"That's about it really, you'll get your own room in Vander tower and if you have any Mercs working under you they'll get their own lodging or share a room with you whichever you prefer. I suppose with your licence being suspended as of right now the only option for inducting you into the order is Trial by combat. So far I've given a trial to every single individual that has been inducted so far."
The renamon folded her arms a bit and stared at her for a few long moments.
"But I also want to ask you. Are you willing to fight against the D-reapers, the Spires, or any other major or minor threat that presents itself? Do you really think you are ready for such a commitment syre? Because if you are I'm not going to go easy on you just because you're my daughter."
She'd bite her lip as she almost ended up saying something else entirely...
I'm not going to go easy on you just because you mean the world to me...

"... And I suppose I should listen."
Syre gave a short chuckle, sitting back up as K would explain it. Just what the Knights stood for, what they did, where they would be, as well as what little structure in command there was. And there was also the test - that she would have to prove her strength in a spar against K, likely at her Shutmon level. That little bit made the cat curl her lips in slight hesitation.
Soon, they would come to the end of it. Syre's options right now were limited, and K simply asked: would she be ready to do what was right? To fight against both the known and the unknown terrors of the world? Syre gave it a moment's thought, her hand briefly shifting down to her once-wounded ankle. She cracked a small smile: "Mom, if nothing else, I've always tried to do the right thing. Even if everything's been a little beyond what I could do, I just stretched that extra mile and tried to do it anyway. If you're asking me if I'm willing to fight?"
She took a breath out, and smiled as she looked right on up.
"I am."

K shared that chuckle at syre's little joke. She was glad that her daughter was willing to listen to her. That she was willing to go through the steps to just learn about them and what they did. She'd note that little lip curl and that hesitation. K's forms were... well. It had nothing to do with the forms and perhaps the skill that was behind them? At least she hoped that was the case honestly.
K would follow her daughters motion to grab at that once injured ankle, tilting her head just a little bit and flicking her eyes to that smile. She did indeed always try to do the right thing, even if it was out of her scope. If she was willing to stretch that extra mile she'd... well she would fit in with the knights who if they were unfortunate enough would end up having to do so all the time. At her answer k gently gave her daughter a hug, an infinite well of sad but arguably kind emotion seemed to slough off of her before ending that little hug.
"Well. We can do that trial whenever you're ready. I imagine the sooner the better so you can distract yourself while waiting for that mission licence to come back right?"
She'd stick out her tongue a bit and stand up, giving a small stretch. She'd consider it for a few moments before staring down at her daughter.
"I don't think I've seen any other of your digivolutions yet, this will be interesting at the very least..."
There was a soft chuckle and she'd reach forward to gently rub the top of Syre's head sharing with her a small smile. There was a lot that she wanted to say and a lot that she wanted to do but... honestly what was she supposed to do in that regard? Other than just step forward and hope that her daughter was okay with it...

"Mmph!"
Syre wasn't expecting that! Just about as soon as she said she was ready, Syre was plucked up in a great big hug, one that spoke volumes about the appreciation and love that K felt for her daughter at this very moment. Pride, happiness, fear - all of it welled up at once, before Syre would be let go, the cat brushing off the front of her fur as K started to speak.
"So long as you don't get me in one of those grapples, I think I'll do fine... and, eheh, I suppose..."
She rolled her eyes, able to joke a bit at that, before feeling her ear twitch. Come to think of it: "Then we'd be about even? I mean, I don't know much about how you fight either... nyah." She leaned a bit against that rubbing hand, slowly thinking it through.
"... Give me a week." Just one week. "I'll practice, with dad and Holly, and get as good as I can in my S... I mean, in my Ultimate form. Just you wait, mom!"

K let out a soft chuckle and grinned at her daughter as she watched them adjust their fur after that hug. If K did manage to get syre in a grapple like that what would she do? She was kind of curious now but that was something she wasn't really good at herself... Perhaps that was something she could practice outside of bladework?
"Lucky for you then I'm a swordsmon through and through."
That grin split her lips and she'd tilt her head slightly as they spoke about being even. She'd shrug her shoulders and cross her arms, somewhat amused at the idea that syre would think just because of that they would be anywhere close to even. Experience is something that the other could claim on Syre, but she wasn't going to get out of place just because of that.
"It evens out the playing field just a bit doesn't it?"
Then there was the request of having a week to prepare. She wanted to practice with her father and her sister. So that she could get as good in her ultimate form. The renamon tapped her lips quietly and then grinned even wider than before.
"A week to practice huh? I'll do some practicing of my own then. But you'll have it, a week from tomorrow. Because today isn't really as full as you probably would like."
Honestly she was too nice really, but to be honest if any of her other knights had asked for the same she would of given it. But many of them seemed raring and ready to go, some people would of course need a little time to get into the mentality they needed to.
"And once the trial is over I'll show you something I know you haven't seen before."

"Swords, even higher up, huh? Well, this'll be interesting..."
Syre returned that grin, but didn't give too much more of a hint than that. The playing field was about as even as it could be - though K seemed to take a bit of extra thought at Syre's request. Ultimately, though, K agreed to that week of practice, even promising to do the same. "A week from tomorrow's fine with me! And I'll be ready for it."
But today? Oh, heck no, she wouldn't be. Syre used Sistermon Noir twice, and neither time was with any real practice. If this was going to be a proper spar, she was going to at least learn how to use her weapons efficiently. At that last promise, though, Syre let out a grin.
"Oh, now you're just getting me excited! Anyway," the cat sprang out of the bed, "I think moping in my room for so long's made me stiff... I'm going to go take my run. Now, where did those get off to..."
Ah, perfect! Opening the bottom drawer of her dresser, Syre affixed those now-familiar ankle weights to her legs, giving K one more wave before she stepped off.
[Exit]
