Star Bright Moonlight [Bero/Eris][V-day]

The Terminus observatory, while less well known then it's Luminas counterpart, was one of the largest astral observatories in the digital world. Though you wouldn't have know it from the way the building was shoved towards the outskirts of the city squatting like a hulking giant wrought of pale stone along the cities walls it's telescope looming up and over the rock hewn battlements to peer into the sky like a cyclop's lone eye. Still there was a certain beauty to the rather strange oval roofed building and it's almost digi-Grecian architecture. The entire place exuding a whimsy all it's own from it's smooth stone steps to it's name carved high above the door forcing visitors to look to the sky they so seldom noticed to read it.
It was upon these very steps belly pressed to the warm stone a red Gigimon waited. Sunning herself in the weak noonday light in an attempt to ward of the light chill that still clung to the air even in this hour. Her blue eyes trained on the quiet streets, for despite it's beauty the Observatory was rarely thought of as an 'exciting' attraction by most, as she waited on her date to arrive. The question of who they were coming secondary in Eris's mind behind the quiet hope that she held in her heart that she had chosen their activity well. Hope that they would not find her choice of a date boring or too 'highbrowed' as she'd sometimes heard museums referred to. Though she quietly thought that there was not a Mon alive who had not at some point in their lives stared up at the distant stars and wondered. Stared up at them and dreamed.

Bero had never been to this part of Terminus, for he didn’t see the need to be anywhere nearby. Terminus was for going to scrappy places, looking for alleyways, finding where the rougher types were hiding and getting into a good ol’ brawl. Not for dating… right? So thought the BlackGabumon, as he went to the area he was told to go. Stone walls loomed over him, providing the strange, unwelcome feeling Terminus City had always given him. He had always chalked it up to the fact that Communal areas generally ended up in him being kicked out for troublemaking, so he didn’t like communal areas much either. The walls felt like… reverse prison walls, like they were ready to have him be kicked out and never be able to walk into Terminus again, if he’d slip up just too much. This caused him to take a moment to Sneer at the walls, as if they were alive and an enemy of his. They weren’t, but Bero wasn’t so logic-driven as to let that stop him.
Having arrived a little later than intended by the dating program for him to be here, because of that Guardomon along the way wouldn’t just give him the directions he had ‘politely’ asked for. Some Digimon had no respect. Bero was definitely not one of them, no sirree. With that loss of time, and his general uncaringness to the concept of time in and of itself, Bero hadn’t managed to arrive as timely as he should have. He didn’t expect this to annoy any digi off more than he could handle, so it was just something he let be.
One building defied all the rules and logic that he had learned of Terminus city. A beautiful large building, oval at the top and a large scopic object facing towards the sky. Was it a cannon? Nah. Bero could sort of feel it wasn’t, it just didn’t feel dangerous. Recycle Bin be damned if he knew what it was supposed to be. Knowing things wasn’t Bero’s strong suit. He approached close to the building, it’s towering height and dominant presence becoming more clear by the second. Bero was sure that if it moved and turned out to be a living digimon, he would be running until he was on the other side of the digital world… wherever that might be.
His footsteps were one of the only in the surrounding area, Empty Streets calming Bero. After all, you couldn’t bloody these empty streets with the thrill of combat and a good brawl. All they were good for was for getting from location A to location B. Bero’s feet his vehicles of choice, he lead himself to the observatory, noticing something, no, a digi on his way there. Sitting, sort of. As much as a gigimon could ‘sit’ considering their stubby little feet barely reached past their stomach. The digimon felt familiar to him, and being the only one around, he walked up some of the stairs. Recognising Eris, the… Gigimon he sparred with, Bero was already shot with mixed feeling. He couldn’t leave from here without knowing who thought they found a blind date strong enough for him and ready for him. “Oy. Funny seeing you here.” Looks like whatever time they had spent apart hadn’t made Bero better at conversation...

Eris had begun to doze the soft heat of the warmed stone beneath her and the glow of the steady noonday sun warming her hide had slowly lulled the tiny Gigimon to sleep. Her eyes growing heavy as the lids gradually drifted shut as the tiny dragon snoozed rolling onto her back. Leaving her stretched out, the little black tip of her tail barely twitching in sleep, as she napped like a particularly scaly feline. Until a shadow passed over her. Blinking sleep mussed blue eyes the Gigimon peered up at the looming form that seemed to have swallowed the sun with it's presence. Her little body stretching as she shook off the last vestiges of sleep, tiny legs trembling in the air with the motion before still laying on her back, creamy belly to the sky. Then the tiny Gigimon smiled at him, stuck out her tongue and chirped an utterly delighted greeting. "Hi Bero!" She sang out as Eris finally rolled back onto her feet with another feline like stretch her little mouth going into a tiny shape of an O as she yawned showing off rows of tiny needle sharp teeth and shook out her limbs. "Are you my date?" Eris questioned tilting her head curiously as she regarded him with blatant excitement her tail beating out a light rap tap tapping against the stone in her glee. "Oh please say yes!" She crooned practically pleading with those big blue eyes of her.

Eris had fallen somewhat asleep, but had woken up to Bero announcing his presence. The way he looked at her was unusual from the usual high and mighty look he would give others, looking down from above. No, Eris was different, he looked straight at her. She had proven him something and he didn’t dare give her his usual attitude. His lilac eyes didn’t carry the same anger they did when he sneered at the walls as he looked at her upside down shape greeting her. She said hi and then suggested the idea of him being her date.
“Hah! Me? A date with you? The idea is preposterous.” He said with his voice loud, almost ready to laugh boisterously at the thought, accompanied with a friendly although mischievous smile at her. As she practically begged for it to be the truth, he ignored the notion. Spreading his arms in a grand gesture he continued translating his thoughts into words with a sense of power and uncaring, obvious confidence. Even after Eris had shown him up a while back, he wasn’t ready to lower his opinion of himself. It showed as he spoke with a strong tone of arrogance in his every word. “I would think that whatever group would dare pair me up with someone would have the foresight to not pair me with a champi-”
It is at that moment in Bero’s outspoken confidence and almost kingly display of speaking with arms wide that he had turned his head and looked towards the vast emptiness that was streets before them. His lilac eyes scanned the Terminus environment before them. The complete lack of any and every digi in the nearby area gave it a lifeless feeling. A moment of silence had occurred as Bero’s processors had pieced together the entire truth of the situation, and the gleam of his eyes was lost, giving them the very same lifelessness. “Oh my Jesmon i am your date.”
As if the very meaning of Bero’s life itself had been doubted for a moment, his expression soured. “Well i suppose we can skip the part where i get you to prove your strength as a worthy partner to me.” he stated, almost as if it was just straight fact that someone strength needed to be tested. He sat down next to Eris, his furry cloak shifting softly as the four clawed arms settled into their positions as he sat down. His expression wasn’t so sour or depressed anymore, replaced with a calm neutrality, looks like it was just a momentary dip in expression as he realized the situation.

"Aww come on Bero don't be like that." Eris murmured as a low distressed whine rose up from the back of her throat. Her pride stinging a bit at his apparent rejection though she brightened somewhat as the reality of the situation seemed to set in. Unless of course both of their dates had mysteriously gone missing or been kidnapped, which was highly unlikely, it appeared the two of them were meant to be paired together for the day. A fact with which Eris was perfectly pleased with though her companion seemed...a little less so.
"Hey~ Hey it's ok." The tiny Gigimon spoke her voice soft and coaxing as Bero seemed to flop down on the stairs with a strange and almost solemn look of contemplation wrought upon his face. "I'm not such bad company. Honest." Eris reassured as she sidled up beside him reaching one tiny foot out to gently paw at the Black Gabumon's side in hopes of drawing him out of his funk.
"Sides i'm pretty sure if it wasn't 'love at first fight' with our past encounter then you're probably fine." She assured him; for while she'd enjoyed sparring with Bero it wasn't like there was anything romantic there.
"And nothing says two friends can't have fun together on a date!" Eris pointed out with a grin only for her smile to falter as she glanced back at the Observatory.
"Um I mean...well I like to think of you as a friend." She added a little hesitantly realizing her feelings may or may not be mutual, but determined to win the gruff Black Gabumon over all the same.
"Do you like stars? This place has a really cool light show about them and has tons of exhibits about comets and space." Eris exclaimed hoping to distract Bero from his slump. "I thought that well...it's really hard in the city to see the stars so we'd go to a place where they bring the stars to the city."

Eris’ first act was to Console him, to which Bero wasn’t sure how to respond. He was sure she wasn’t… bad company, but was somedigi who could be a champion but chose to walk around as a in-training really a good fit for him? He still gave Eris the straight look he had earlier, but it didn’t have quite any depression to him. He had just been surprised, not completely drawn out of it. He blinked and took a deep breath, listening to her talk. To be honest, he wasn’t sure why it was… so easy to focus on her and listen to her talk, usually he’d ignore people who’d act nice without any issue. He genuinely had not experienced anyone who could remain affable against his attitude. She assured him this didn’t have to be some kind of romance thing but a friendly date, and reminded him that yes. Being Friends was a thing, and that she was practically enforcing the two to be friends. Bero wouldn’t use the word Friends quite yet, but he… didn’t feel like defying her use of it. As a sort of acknowledgement he spoke. “Yeah… Friends, whatever, i’ll go for it.” he gave her a sort of smile. Any other digi would have seen it as lackluster, especially compared to the wild berserker grin he wore when he was ready for combat, but his smile was earnest despite how minor it was. He listened to her continue, already less in a slump, but just kind of bored and unsure what they’d be doing. “S-see the… stars?” he said, slowly speaking up as his eyes practically sparkled, much like the stars in the sky.
“W-wait, How does this place relate to the heavenly starry bodies above, celestially resting in night sight? I-it just looks like a big cannon!” Bero sounded a mixture of excited and confused. He had apparently never seen or heard of the observatory before, but it was clear that he was already super into the idea. He reached out to Eris and picked her up, lifting her high for a second, standing up and almost dancing on the spot with excitement! “Did you know that stars are often believed to be actual balls of fiery code?! Could you imagine if they’d been made by a dig-O-oh, uhm.” He place Eris down again and composed himself, crossing his arms, his lizardlike tail still wagging a bit as he looked away, up towards the skies where he knew the stars were, but weren't currently visible. what were they going to do? well, if it includes stars, it kind of had to be fun! “I-it sounds fun, yes…”

"Yeah we have a smaller Observatory like this in the Empyrean Skies my Dad sometimes takes me tooo~" She trailed off with a startled "Eep!" As Eris suddenly found herself lifted aloft in Bero's excitement and brought level with the clearly very excited Black Gabumon's face as she blinked at him in surprise. Doing her best to process the sudden one-eighty and rapid string of questions and facts being fired her way.
"Oh! Oh! You mean the Telescope! It's not a cannon at all! It's this thing with a series of mirrors and stuff in a tube that lets you look at really far away stars super up close! Scientists use them to study the stars! I don't think they'll let us look through it, but they always have pictures and video feeds of the view through them in the Observatory a lot of times!" The Little Gigimon explained nodding along fully swept up in Bero's glee her tiny tail wagging happily in time with his own. In truth it was with somewhat disappointment that Eris found herself being set down on her feet once more. Trying not to pounce Eris listened with rapt attention as Bero lectured her on celestial bodies causing the In-Training Digimon to beam up at him with a thousand watt smile.
"Really? That's so cool! Wow you should be an astronomer someday Bero!" She exclaimed before motioning towards the Observatory doors.
"Come on I got us two tickets! I bet we can ask inside how a Mon goes about becoming an astronomer if you're interested!" Eris chirped digging the two tickets out of her Infini-store as she held them carefully clutched her teeth as she bounced up the steps one at a time as fast as her little legs could carry her.

Bero had hardly listened to her first point as she made it, but she explained how the telescope worked. The ability to look at stars really closely, he wondered if he could tell their heat through the telescope. He had dropped the super excited act rather quickly, but he couldn’t deny how deep inside the full idea sounded fascinating to him. He had never considering that by merging certain data types and materials to create a mechanism could also be used to create things that’d coincide with his interests. It showed he had gone deep in thought with a blank stare of his, the sparkle in his eyes stayed strong, as did the wagging of his tail. It’s almost like it was all too good to be true, he couldn't find the words to speak aloud. All he did was wear a very goofy, large grin.
He was somewhat disappointed that he’d probably not be allowed to look through the thing itself. He was ready to earn the permission if need be, but his excitement took priority over any anger and determination he had, keeping his more goofy look about him. “Sure, i guess looking at some videos can’t be so bad if they’re… informative.”
He spoke with a pensiveness. For starters, he didn't want to continue making this... silly overjoyed impression that didn't fit him, secondly, he wasn’t entirely satisfied with the idea of just looking at recorded image. Who was to say they were good? Who was to say he couldn’t do them better himself? It is during that line of thought that Eris suggested becoming an astronomer. The function was unfamiliar to him, but he could surmise it was related to the stars somehow, and his fascination with it. Did people study and learn about these stars? It didn’t sound like a horrible idea, but Bero had focused so much time in studying and perfecting his combat techniques, he wasn’t sure he was ready for a 180 like that. “Maybe. I mean, if we’re going inside anyway, it doesn’t hurt.”
Bero looked at her cheerily pull out the two tickets and nodded. He walked up the stairs which required almost as much an effort as it did Eris, whatnot with him being a little smaller than the already small Gabumon specie. Realizing this wasn’t really getting anywhere, Bero rolled his eyes and jumped to Eris, gingerly picking her up. His cloak lit aflame, and he leaned back, as the stretchy claw arms did the walking up the stairs for both of them, easily stretching up to the next stair and pulling them up, their size be damned. He smiled smugly to her as they took this shortcut.

Eris didn't 'eep' this time when Bero scooped her up. Mostly because she had her mouth full with tickets and could only make mumbled nearly incomprehensible noises of excitement and agreement around the little slips of paper. At least until they entered through the big metal doors, one of which was cracked open to allow ease of entry and handed the tickets to a rather bemused looking Lilymon.
"Right. Please enjoy your visit. We have self-guided tours with voice over to your right and demonstrations and activities later on in the day." The plant Digimon explained handing the two of them a pair of glossy paper pamphlets with their covers dotted in stars. Eris was quick to open hers in Bero's grip.
Exclaiming excitedly "Oh cool! They've got meteorites on display!" Her little tail wagging as she pointed out the small picture of the metallic looking space rock in it's case. "Ooo they're even doing a lightshow and celestial display scheduled later in the Imax!" Eris chirped half turning in Bero's grip to beam at him.
"What do you want to go see first?" She questioned sky blue eyes alight with excitement.

This time, Eris seemed less surprised about him picking her up. Although the two had been friendly, he thought it was a small shame. Surprising her and scaring her still got a small quick kick out of him, it was just such a fun little sight to see. By the time they were up the stairs, Bero had doused the flames of his cloak and stood back on the ground, although hadn’t let go of Eris quite yet, helping her reach up to the Lilymon and give her tickets to the digimon. Bero didn’t really respond, he felt it was best for Eris to do the talking right now.
Bero looked in the flyer as Eris did, thinking at the idea of Meteorites. Actually, what -were- meteorites? Some digimon named their attacks after meteorites, and it was usually something fiery... He knew there were stars and moving stars. Come to think of it, he never really asked someone what name they gave the moving stars. Were they even actual stars? The sudden realisation left Bero remembering the one flaw of fighting everyone instead of socialising. Oh well, didn’t matter. Bero watched Eris preciously turn around in his grip, staring at him with sky blue excited eyes. It’s innocence was supposed to be infectious, the joy spreading to all in the nearby environment. Bero, however, just gave her an awkward smile.
“Meteorites… lightshow… Honestly, i don’t know what most of those things are, but from what i do know… Meteorites sound interesting. I wouldn’t mind seeing those.” He said, looking shifty as he was annoyed at his own lack of knowledge. How had he managed to learn so much about stars without ever even learning what else there was in space. He walked inside the entrance with Eris still in his arms, looking around as he stepped inside. It was very rare for Bero to be inside a proper building, let alone one that likely was actually cleaned up now and then. His black body and scruffy appearance stood out like a sore thumb. He started reaching down to let Eris back on the ground, but was doing so slow enough she could react to it before she touched the ground.

If Eris had noticed how out of place her dates appearance among the clean granite hallways and towering marble architecture was she certainly didn't let onto it. Instead she wiggled excitedly in his grip like an overly enthusiastic puppy her tail mashing happily back and forth causing it to occasionally smack against his wrist until he'd set her down. Resulting in a practically blur of movement as the Gigimon gripped his cloak with her teeth and tugged him excitedly towards where the meteorites and moon dust, and other celeastial samples were on display. Only releasing him once they'd entered the display hall as her little mouth fell open in shock.
"Sooo coool!" She whispered eyes as wide as dinner plates as she stared up at the stars painted upon the ceilings and the cases containing strange metallic and stone like rocks. Some even appearing glass or gem like as the tiny Gigimon trotted up to one practically pressing her face against the glass having failed to notice the little educational plaque beside the display in her enthusiasm. Though such would possibly give Bero a leg up on educating himself before anyone else noticed he didn't know something. Least of all his tiny overly excited date.
"Isn't this cool Bero!?" Eris exlcaimed turning to look at him with a smile. "One day I'm gonna get a bunch of these and I'm gonna make the biggest, baddest, most kick-ass sword ever in existence!" She crooned staring one one of the metallic meteors with stars in her eyes.

Bero only had a split second after he put her down before she blurred around and was grabbing his cloak with her mouth to drag him towards the displays she wanted to look at. He looked around at the various displays of materials, raising a lifted eye to them. He read their inscriptions a bit as she admired them without second thought. Some of these were said to handle incredibly heats and be fragments of.. Flaming falling rocks from the sky. What, that was a meteorite fragment?
Wait, that means the moving stars are meteors! Huh, apparently they even hit the ground sometimes and pieces like this came out of it. He looked over the meteorite, his excited date doing the same, claiming she’ll use them to create a sword. He chuckled at the thought. “Oh don’t think i’ll fall behind or let a sword like that hurt me. One day i’ll fly up to space out there, and learn to break those rocks with my fists” he said, punching one fist into his open hand in a challenging gesture. Bero looked it over. Meteorite metals eh? He wondered if digimon ever fighted using it. He might have to fight against it someday. Looks like Eris had given him an idea of how to look at all the more boring stuff in a positive light. There's a crazy digimon out there who might use this against him.
Bero walked over to another meteorite sample, which almost seemed to still be glowing. His eyes sparkled in their own right as they stared right to the softly glowing metal, his own excitement flaring and tail wagging a little more. “I like this one… interesting, it looks ready to light up in a flame, i’m guessing they somehow put it in a container that prevents from fires happening within, otherwise it’d definitely be on Fire. I’d say it seems to be about 2523 Kelvin.” He spoke, looking at it from a close distance. The little information plaque faced the other direction, but upon inspecting it, it said that this rock had been found retaining an unusual degree of heat, being found at about 2783 Kelvin, and since then having cooled down and stabilized at… 2524 Kelvin.

"Pfft you sound just like my Dad." Eris joked sticking her tongue out at Bero playfully, "Greatest smith in all the lands, but he always jokes that the best weapons he'll ever wield are his own fists." She explained with a laugh her voice fond and soft with love.
"Though sometimes he does throw houses, and boulders, and trees at things, and there was that one time he got really mad and just picked up my Uncle and chucked him half way across the island." The little Gigimon added musing fondly on her Father's various exploits.
"You should have seen the look of surprise on my Uncle's face, but he did kinda deserve it hassling my Dad while he was working. Still I bet my Dad could smith this stuff." She added before peering up at the glowing rock Bero seemed fascinated with. Her little nose twitching as she sniffed at the heat resistant container as she checked the plaque finding Bero's guess almost right on point.
"Wow did you read that on the card? How'd you know that Bero?" She questioned looking impressed as she glanced up at the Black Gabumon in curiosity.

“Your dad sounds like he knows what a digimon should be doing.” Bero said with a vile grin. Weapons were for the weak, proving you were above all else without the help of strange code was exactly how he planned to go about things. He listened to her story in further silence before they happened upon the glowing star fragment like rock that Bero too much interest in.”The card? Oh, there it is. Uh, the temperature, i mean. It’s just something i see. Telling by the exact hue and glow on it, even despite its current seal, the type of material is likely of a connection that doesn’t burn easily and a structure that easily retains heat. It doesn’t fall apart easily despite the immense heat, which is what makes something that could cause a fire if anything other than it touched it. You could touch a tree with this and it’d burst out in flame…”
Bero grinned and imagined. “I don’t like using outside materials, but could you imagine if i would? I could coat my horn in this kind of stuff, and just poke burning holes in my enemies with ease! Hah, i’d have no equals or rivals in close range heat attacks. Not that i have many to start with.” He laughed and held his hands on his sides for a bit before continuing to look at the glowing star metal for a bit. “I’d be scared of you as a gigimon if you could bite with fire this hot, let alone what you could do as a BlackGuilmon.”

Eris listened to Bero lecture with wide eyes and rapt attention though the more he talked the more solemn she seemed to become. Even eyeing the rock with a sort of wary reservation as she considered Bero's various uses for it. "I know if a Digimon that can make fire that hot, but..." She trailed off shifting uncomfortably by the Black Gabumon's side her eyes straying over the various displays until something caught her gaze.
"Oh wow look Bero! That meteorite is studded with all sorts of gems!" She exclaimed darting over to the next display to look at the meteorite that was dotted with various compact diamond like crystalline gems within it's structure where it had been cut in two. A light having even been angled to reflect upon the gems.
"Wow that's so pretty! It's like a bunch of stars inside of a falling star!" She joked grinning up at him.
"Though we should probably get moving I think the light show will be starting soon." Eris added checking the pamphlet once more for the exact time of the showing.
