K had to be.
She had to make it difficult for her daughter, for one of the people that she swore to herself that she would protect. She would expect more and more from them, she wanted to believe in her child. She wanted to know that they could fight in all honesty and with her being pointblank she could see the surprise in her daughter's eyes.
What would she choose in such a place? Where would she go? To back away, to go left or right? To go above? Perhaps even try to go behind her? There were plenty of options that K could follow through with but the one she wasn't really expecting for her daughter to do one she was disarmed of one pistol was... Charging forward?
The kyukimon blinked in abject surprise, the body slam that sent the Kyukimon staggering backwards. But something that might worry syre a bit was the mon coughing out her weapon, it clattering to the floor with a spatter of blood following suit. The kyukimon falling to one knee with a grunt. A lot of her fights with the others seem to bring pain and damage to her chest... A common target which was smart.
But it also made fighting longer term fights a little bit of a pain. Seeing what she could see and understand those that would be under her. She'd look up at Syre and stare at her for a few long moments before....
She digivolved.
Not to cresgarurumon, not to any form above that. But to the very self same form that had attacked the library. Growling with irritation the digimon slowly got up from one knee and rubbed at her chest.
"It's up to you if we keep going or not. But with how much you damaged my chest I can't maintain ultimate form very well. Focusing on one spot is smart but leaves you open to counters, shift it up a bit. Damage extremities."
The raguelmon's claws shifted from being 'static' to those of an 'attack' formation. The cold blue eyes staring forward at her daughter even though there was very little in the way of distance between them. She'd take a single step, K herself was willing to continue but if Syre wished to halt it here... Well.
She had seen quite a bit but she wanted to see more. She wanted to understand her daughter more. To say that you wanted to be a knight was one thing but... actually being was very much so another.

Syre's shoulder-barge hit home.
Perhaps it was something K didn't expect. The Kyukimon did seem to be surprised before she got hit, so did she not brace against it properly? Honestly, Syre looked a touch concerned when her mom started spitting blood! Thinking it better that they call the fight off, Syre was about to speak...
... But was cut off by a flash of light, the appearance of a vicious Raguelmon staring at her in the face. Readying her weapon for a brief moment, the Sistermon's expression clicked in recognition as her mom spoke.
She was calling off the fight? Or, was allowing Syre to?
K explained her reasoning. That Syre had to 'mix it up', that the focus 'drew her open to counters'. To that, Syre let out a 'tsk'.
"Mom," she said, plainly, "I was countering you."
The Sistermon gave a small breath, pressing to explain: "If I increased the distance, the effect of your scythes would have been greater. Swords and scythes move faster the further they are away from the origin, so I would have just been putting myself at a range to be cut up if I backed off. I only had two options: jam my guns against the base of your scythes, or charge right at your center. I would have either stopped your swing short and been able to follow-up, or got close enough that you wouldn't have been able to hurt me with your arms... too much."
Syre sighed.
"... You've been looking down at me this entire fight. Haven't you."

K stared at her daughter, the sistermon's expression varied from seeing her form that had brought such a troubled time to those that she loved. K turned her hands upwards, looking down at them with a thoughtful expression. She'd flick her ears and close her eyes at hearing that tsk, following suit?
Syre was countering her mother. Specifically studied her mother, taking the time and effort to figure out how to fight her. How to do right by her. She'd grit her teeth and slowly take a seat, rubbing at her neck before letting her shaky breathes even out.
"A very good assessment and you made the right decision. Most people aren't practiced enough to really warrant that sort of thought pattern."
The raguelmon halted entirely and a furious expression crossed her face. She'd slowly stand up, her anger swelling more and more. She'd grit her teeth and step forward, looming over her daughter with an absolutely furious glint in her eyes.
"No. I would NEVER look down on you. Ever since we met, ever since I was able to be there for you I've always held you higher than those that I would have work for me, for those that I have to help me do exactly what you want to do."
She'd bite her lip, drawing blood with the sheer amount of force that she put forward. She looked lost for a moment and then scrunched her eyes shut with a wracking frustrated growl.
"The world I want to fight for wants to fight to protect itself. You are my everything syre. I wanted to be sure, beyond reason and beyond a doubt that you were truthful, I wanted to be hard on you. Giving you my absolute all as it's only fair to you. I wouldn't dare look down on you; you've put forth so much effort on it's own to do what you thought was right, to try to help protect what I..."
She'd stop and rub at her head, the anger clearly getting to her.
"Everyone thinks I made the knights to fight wisemon."
She'd stare down at her daughter for a few long moments.
"I made it to protect my world. I made it to protect you syre. And here you are, in front of me telling me you want to do the same. That you want to protect yourself, so of course I'm going to be harder on you, try to find what's wrong so I can keep you safe. I want you to be a knight."
The raguelmon clenched her fists and turned to one side, rubbing anxiously at her head.
"But I want my world to be safe. I want my syre to be safe. And being a Knight? Isn't safe, but I am and will always be there for you. To support you throughout whatever endevours you chose."
The raguelmon's shoulders slumped a little and she'd stare at her daughter.
"and I'm... I'm hurt you would think I'd look down on you. When...."
"When your mother holds you in such high regard that she'd move mountains, split seas and fight even the sky for that regard. She loves you so much that she would fight you to stop you from fighting others. Or something like that. I think there's a few human novels regarding that, ask you sister Holly if you really wanna know. Also uh... you guys are a lot louder than you'd think."
The black head of a guilimon-x popped over the ridge halfway through speaking. The ready and able form of joseph making known. K would glance up at her 'squire' of sorts and sigh softly.
"Your thoughts joseph?"
"The fight was honestly too short, but it shows she's willing to learn and go forward. I think she's a good fit, though I bet she's going to draw a lot of attention from just being your daughter."
He'd slide down the side of cliff and land pretty softly near the two of them. A thoughtful claw brought up to his lips for a few moments. The next question that joseph posed made K flinch.
"What is your mother to you Syre?"

K's reaction simply erupted outward.
Syre was taken back at the sheer fury in the Raguelmon's tone, taking a step back as her mother took a rather intimidating position. It was more than anger, though: the Sistermon had managed to pick at a sensitive string in K's heart, but for it to give this reaction, it had to speak to the truth of the matter. As K explained, holding her emotions, Syre listened - and the ultimate found herself balling her hands into fists as her mom spoke.
About how Syre was her world. About how the Knights were made to protect her. It was enough to have the Sistermon grit her teeth...
... But then Joseph broke into the conversation, and said everything that K wanted to say, ever so plainly. His words made sense, of course: K would fight for a world so that Syre, Holly, and Mikemon could be safe, and she'd try and change the world to make it better for them.
"Mom..." Syre sighed, hearing that last question. "My mother is my mom. Someone I love dearly - someone I look up to, and someone who represents something I want to be, Joseph. But, mom..."
Turning her attention to K, the Sistermon grit her teeth in frustration. "... You seriously don't see it? I... I know you're looking at me like I'm the sweet 'little Syre' that you met on that first day. Someone that you want to love and protect... but that's not what I want to be, mom! I want to be like you, I want to be more than that!" She grit her teeth once more, then gave a small breath out, a small glow surrounding her body.
She felt it, something deep, something welling up - and in those moments, Syre pushed herself further than Sistermon. The cloth gave way to a purple metal, Syre growing in height as those weapons shifted in her hand - from dual pistols to a single staff.
With little fanfare...
Kuzuhamon appeared out of the light.
"..."
And Syre wasn't surprised, either. Looking down at her gloved hands, she gave a short sigh.
"I'm... I'm not just your little girl, mom."

It just honestly hurt to hear all of those things, it had made her angry. It had made her over-react. She was at a loss, she had pushed a lot in this fight to see what her daughter was capable of. But the mon's explanation and question seemed to hit an odd chord to say the least? Joseph flicked his little wings and took a seat; tilting his head one way as the Sistermon spoke.
K flicked her own ears forward as Syre spoke, K was of course Syre's mother. Someone that she looked up to, someone that... represented what they wanted to be. K opened her mouth slowly wanting to say something but syre continued to speak. Her own mouth slowly closed and she'd look down at her hands hearing what the other was saying.
She wasn't the same 'little' syre that she met on the first day. She was still the focus of her love, something that she wanted to protect something that she wanted to be able to come home to and hear about their schooling. Hear about what they had been doing... Things like that. But.... she didn't want to be protected. She wanted to be like her mother. She wanted to be more than just something that K wanted to protect and could protect.
K would of responded but then that form changed, Her syre digivolved in front of K. K's mouth dropped a little and joseph was startled so much he had to hop back a few feet. Eyes wide and uncertain for a few long moments. K's mouth closed slowly however when the Kuzuhamon spoke. Addressing the fact that she wasn't just her little girl.
K was at a loss of words, it wasn't something that was terribly uncommon. But all the hints and what not were there, that little shoulder sag. The uncertain look in her eyes. Eventually she just eased out a long sigh and her own form collapsed in on herself returning her to a renamon. There were some nasty bruises and some marks from where the sistermon had fired at. She'd turn one way and just rub at her snout.
"...I... I just wanted..."
Joseph sighed a bit and shook his head before getting back up to sort of 'inspect' syre. He'd frown a little bit after a moment and consider it lightly.
"I think this goes to show how serious you are about this entire thing Ms. Syre."
K was at a loss of words and she'd just turn away from the both of them. She wanted to say so much but with her shoulders sagged, her lips opening and closing? She looked defeated, uncertain and just drew herself up a bit after a while.
"I.... I... Just... I..."
She felt lost. It was just that simple and hit hurt. She wanted to accept her daughter into the knights but was struggling to find the words to say. Her daughter was willing to go so far but she just... Why couldn't she be allowed to enjoy it? But now what she wanted to protect was... It was willing to fight for itself and after a long bout of silence she'd turn to look at her daughter.
"...You're already so much more than I ever was. It... It was wrong of me to expect you wouldn't want me to just be the one to protect you. I... Just.... Lets go."
Her shoulders slumped a bit and she'd just shake her head gesturing to one side. A portal to vander tower opening up. Joseph looked actually rather surprised but K didn't seem to be too bothered by the idea of taking Syre there at the moment.

K was at a loss for words.
There Syre was, standing at the pinnacle of her form, and her poor mother saw something vanish before her eyes. The innocence of Syre's youth? The feeling of a bird leaving the nest? It was hard to tell just what had changed, but it was clear that something was twisting the Raguelmon's - and then, the Renamon's - heart right inside her chest.
The Renamon didn't know what to say. And the longer she stuttered, the more Syre felt her own heart sank. Joseph's words completely flew by her, the Kuzuhamon looking right in her mother's direction.
Syre never wanted her to feel like that. As K felt defeated, and even opened the portal to Vander Tower - accepting Syre into the Knights - the mega held a hand to Joseph, motioning for him to stay still for a moment. Instead of moving for the portal, Syre stepped up to the Renamon.
She fell on her knees.
And she'd scoop her up in a hug. Syre held K close - and perhaps only now, K would see that her daughter was crying, tears glistening from her mask as she wore a smile on her new face.
Forget Vander Tower, forget the knights. These were the most important words Syre had to say:
"I love you, mom."

It wasn't much of a surprise that K would be at a loss for words now would it?
She had always put others before herself, always wanted to do that. Even when she ran the inn, even as she was moving forward. It was an odd sort of selfish that she was able to protect her daughter and try to protect the world in her own way. But the stuttering and the sagging shoulders. It still hurt, it still pushed home that she wasn't going to just...
Joseph blinked owlishly however when Syre held up a hand to him. He'd simply stay put, even so much so as to take a seat quietly. He wasn't going to break whatever moment that the other had in mind.
Hearing Syre's foot-steps K would look up at her daughter, surprise quickly flying onto her face as the other fell to their knees only to... scoop her up in a hug. There was a soft grunt and the renamon hugged back rather hard. The tears that she could see rolling down from that mask mixed with that smile made her feel beyond exasperated in a sense.
"...I love you too syre."
She'd just hold that hug for a few long moments before just sighing and sort of leaning back to take a look at her daughter. Her brow furrowed and she'd tap her daughter's mask. Plainly curious about her daughter. She'd formulate what she was going to say for a few moments, find it irritable and instead would just hug her daughter again!
"...Took me thousands of years to even get that far... And here you are just a little less than a year old at a form some people can only dream of. I was expecting maybe some kind of angel or something but Kuzuhamon? Color me surprised..."
