It was the following day – shortly past the midday hours or so she assumed. It was difficult to tell if, in this world, time moved as fast as she knew in her own world or perhaps slower.
Yui had been allowed to say in an upstairs room of the local tavern. It wasn’t anything special but it was homely enough. A wooden-craft bed lay to one side, cast with a warm gleam from the sun which poured in from the great open windows. She leaned on the window ledge and looked out onto the town below. Past the outskirts of the ramshackle town, all she could see is sand, sand and more sand. “Not much of a view,” she muttered to herself, thinking of her friend who was also lost in this world. “I hope you’re doing okay. Wherever you are.”
At that moment, two Digimon crashed into her room. One was a mechanical marvel – almost like a piece of a grandfather clock came to life. The Gear Digimon, Hagurumon bounced forward and stopped at her bedside. “Good M-M-M-Morning. It’s n-n-n-n-nice to see you’re doing okay.” He was a kindly monster, with an odd quirky tremble in his speech. The other Digimon had to bend down as to get through the doorway as he was taller than the frame. He appeared to be made of either stones or mud itself – carved into the shape of a teddy bear. MudFrigimon barely spoke and always in a deep, monotone voice. “Breakfast.” In his arms—lay a tray, containing a plate with some toast on it.
“Oh, thanks. I appreciate it,” she said, without much effort nor interest. She barely looked at the two before turning back to stare out the window. “Ah, still worried about your friend, I see. I would be too. But don’t worry you can find her soon. You just need to coax a certain cat out of hiding, first.” A third voice spoke with a low but kindly old croak. A man-like Digimon, more hair than ‘mon, clutching a staff in his hand. “You're right. I should do that.”
Again, she didn’t move. “You know, I think what would be best for you is to explore the town, a little. You might find your answer there.” Yui looked at Jijimon and sighed to herself. “I guess so.” Without touching her breakfast, she jumped up and left the room – to go and ‘explore the town’ as Jijimon had suggested.

Alan adjusted his eyeglasses and his baseball cap as he stepped out of the Trailmon car into the covered station. A Veemon stepped out beside him, he too adjusting his hat, a grey ivy cap, noting the increase in temperature from the inside of the car to outside. The blue drake scanned the arid, sun-baked expanse, slowly, left to right, until his eyes settled on the buttoned hoodie of his human companion, a skeptical frown appearing on his face. "You're not gonna be okay in that," said the dragon, sternly. He wasn't used to being this sure of anything he said.
The young man didn't turn his head from the scenery outside of the station, but he opened his mouth to reply nonethe less: "Environment Suit."
"Gah, never mind. I always forget." The terse response had satisfied the Veemon. The two set off from the station, treading the hot surface of the sand. The reptilian body was more suited to the environment on its own, but Levi wasn't about to let that be the reason he didn't wish he was able to have an environment suit of his own.
Alan wasn't helping the issue. "Man, that's the beauty of these things. No matter where you're exploring, you can do it in your own style," he mused aloud.
"Yeah, yeah, keep rubbin' it in~" teased Levi. "You know I didn't mean it like that."
Levi put his hands behind his head, stuck his tongue out, and winked as he walked. "Oh. You silly being, you." Satisfied neither of them were upset, the tamer and partner pair pressed on towards the building they felt most likely was a tavern when they had viewed it from the station. They felt it helped when it was hot or cold to pick a destination before stepping outside, environment suit notwithstanding.
As they approached the tavern, they noticed another human, a girl, roughly Alan's age, perhaps a little younger, depart from the tavern. Most digimon, like anyone else, don't appreciate strangers coming up to them and trying to chat, but as a human in the digital world, finding someone else who is a human was a conversation starter in and of itself. Well, since they were planning on entering the tavern, they'd have to approach her regardless, so he took it as an opportunity to greet her, and perhaps make another new friend.
"Good morning!" said the young man. "I'd say 'fancy seeing another human out here,' but meeting other humans in the digital world is surprisingly common for how rare it's supposed to be."

Begrudgingly, Yui left the tavern, following the advice of the old man, Jijimon who seemed to be of kind heart and had seen the come and go of many other Digimon in his time. Just judging on the way, he spoke. “I need to coax a cat out of hiding,” she muttered to herself, repeating the words of the old man. “That white cat? The one who ran away from me. I can’t see why.” She was paying little attention to the rabble of Digimon around her. If she had been, it would have been clear it was a popular spot. A mix of monstrous creatures, small and large was crammed into the small space, enjoying themselves. Some like dinosaurs, others more like plants.
Others less than friendly looking, a goblin-like creature eyeing around the bar as it drank a hearty drink. One hand clutching a great wooden club beneath the table. Some of them were just plain weird looking, such a slug-like creature with large eye-stalks with bulbous golf ball-sized eyes on top. However, Yui didn’t see any of this. As she was too preoccupied with her own thoughts and worries, to take much notice.
The town beyond the tavern was fairly small, clearly newly built too – except with a less than perfect set of equipment and supplies as it seemed at least to Yui, quite ramshackle. Again, however, Yui was concentrating on her own thoughts. Mainly, a way to try to find and perhaps help Anna from wherever she might be in this crazy world. Yui was so deep in thought, she failed to notice the people who were walking directly at her. Until she slammed right into the boy and fell backward.
Yui fell to the ground, but fortunately, it wasn’t a hard landing – thanks to the sand beneath their feet cushioning her fall. “Oh, I’m sorry,” Yui muttered, looking up. “I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. Please, excuse me.” With that said, she picked herself up and made to walk away, hastily.

As determined as the young man was to start a friendly conversation, make a good impression, and do whatever else there was in the friend-making process, he was rather shaken-up when he didn't notice that the person he was trying to talk to didn't notice him. He went into a state of mild panic when the two humans bumped into each other, and the other one fell backward.
"Sorry!" He mumbled at about the same time as she did. "A-are you okay?" However, the girl didn't seem to be bothered at all by the fall, and began to walk away, appearing to be in a bit of a hurry, without Alan being able to get another word in. "Do you need help with something?" Alan managed to gather the courage to project just before she was out of hearing range. If there was no response, the tamer and his partner would proceed into the inn, with Alan feeling slightly guilty and Levi feeling merely awkward.

It appeared as if she had crashed right into another human, rather than a strange monster – which she was rather thankful for. One of the monsters might take more offense and annoyance to a human, especially after what happened with the last violent monster, she had met. The rock monster, Gotsumon. A strange-sort, indeed. He had challenged Yui as well as the Tamer and partner whom she had been traveling with to a game of rock, paper, scissors. After losing due to constantly picking rock over the other choices – he had attacked the group. Yui looked up right at the stranger. It was a boy with blond hair. This fact just made her feel worse.
Picking herself up, she rubbed the clinging sand from her and turned as if to walk away. “I apologize for bumping into you.” As she was about to wander away. He asked the question if she was okay, which she ignored. Then, the boy asked if she needed help which she was about to ignore and merely walk away and do her own thing, but that felt wrong.
Yui paused for a second, mid-step. Sighing to herself, she turned back to look at the stranger – unsure why she was even bothering to bother this stranger with her strange problems. “Help? I suppose so. If you don’t mind me asking, have you seen a cat-one-of-them around?” She asked, in the frankest way possible, pointing directly at the blue dinosaur-like creature at the stranger’s side. “I’m supposed to find one.”
