Be Sure of Foot, Stand Firm [Armor Hunt] [Alan/Archon]

Archon was a little confused by that. "So... what happens when you humans get your digivices anyway? Do they come with instruction manuals or not?" he expected the latter, from what little he had picked up about them in his time in Rosewood anyway.
Still, the BlackVeemon watched as Alan tried to activate his with the function that would help them. Although he cringed at Alan's delivery, the results made his face break into a smile.
"Ahh, now that's what I'm talkin' about!" he said, cheerfully. It seemed that the digivice was picking up on something, and to Archon's delight, it was in the direction he was sensing with his own intuition.
Trouble was, it would take them off the path through the marshes. And going off the path could be dangerous in this place, considering the bogs and hazards ahead. Still though, as long as the digivice's radar held out, they could hopefully stay on target.
"Right then... this way it is" Archon concluded, beginning to walk toward the direction the radar was pointing to. However, this involved navigating through swamp reeds as tall as a Greymon and as sharp as razors, so that was another obstacle to get through.
Excited regardless though, and not quite so scared of the bayou as he should have been, Archon took the lead here. After all, he had been through this place once, what could go wrong this time?
He found out soon enough. All it took was one false step, and his foot sunk to his thigh, and he was unable to remove it from the sucking mud, no matter how hard he tried to move it.
"Oh... crap!" he exclaimed, realizing with horror that he sunk deeper the more he struggled. "Levi, Alan... I need some help here!"

Alan shuddered with each wet, muddy step through the marshes. He knew it was probably going to be gross, but until now, "gross" was just a word. Now, he could feel it. He felt dirtier with each step, not only literally, but altogether. As a person. Wherever there were trees close enough, he'd jump between them, or even just rest holding onto one if there were none others nearby. This was exactly what he used to help out when Archon sank into the waters. At least, he tried to. Alan calmly braced himself to help pull the BlackVeemon out, but Levi was having none of this "boyfriend-in-danger" junk. The Veemon instantly digivolved to ExVeemon and scooped Archon out of the mud, letting the excess slip through his fingers.
Alan, mouth agape at the instantaneous reaction, could only say, "that's certainly a way to do it," before deciding it was better to have his mouth closed while adventuring in this particular biome.
"Are you alright?" asked Levi. "If it would be more convenient, I think I could carry us to our destination."

"Whoa!" Archon gasped as he felt Levi's evolved form pull him out of the bog. It felt like there was a lot of effort involved, giving the sucking nature of the terrain, but the ExVeemon was able to handle it easily.
Once the shock had worn off, Archon turned to look at his boyfriend in the face, giving a grin. "Truth be told I didn't know you could do that." the BlackVeemon chuckled. He was no worse for the wear, just his legs were caked with mud. "You look great by the way..." he complimented him.
Levi then offered to carry them the rest of the way. Archon was inclined to agree. "Considering that we're goin' off the path here, yeah, I think that'd be a smart idea." he said, then noticed Levi's wings. "Hey, can you fly, Levi? That might be the best way for us."
Besides, they were nearly halfway there by now, at least he guessed. Hopefully the remainder of their journey would be easier. And if so, they would proceed through the bayou until they came across something of a curious sight.
There was a single tower protruding from the middle of a large expanse of swamp. It had no entrance on the surface, but if they were to climb up to the top, they would see a staircase leading downward. Archon felt the signal was strongest here, so he concluded that the powerful artifacts were within here.
"I think this is it, guys!" he said, excitedly.

Levi ran a muddy hand over his horn-like appendages, smiling with pride and chuckling as he had to spit out some of the more watery mud that ran near his mouth. "Thanks~" he said, beaming confidently at the compliment, knowing full well he had just placed a good amount of mud on his head. "At least I'm camouflaged now~"
Levi gave his wings an uncertain look when Archon pointed them out. "Uhh… as far as I know, these wings are about as good as a Biyomon's on someone my size. I can get some propulsion out of them, which should help a lot. I'm at least way taller than this mud is deep, so that alone should be enough."
After power-walking through the swamp, ("The key is to keep a good, strong rhythm, you see; don't let your emotions weigh you down any more than your body does!") The ExVeemon gave a hearty "Ah ha!" upon seeing the tower. "This shouldn't be a problem! Hold on tight!" he said, and got to try out his wings as he launched himself quickly, but carefully, onto the tower, spying the staircase up top, and letting his two companions down. "Unless I think I need Champion again, I think it'd be a good idea to go Flamedramon down here. Agreed?"
"Agreed. And if this is the same place where the Digimental of Integrity was, goin' in as Flamedramon would be like New Game Plus! But I doubt it'll be that simple." Following this, the part made their descent into the mysteries below them.

Archon chuckled as Levi's reaction accidentally made himself muddy too. "Well, least we don't have to worry about gettin' even more dirt on us." he joked.
Levi admitted that he probably wasn't that good at flying in his form. Which was understandable, those wings didn't look big enough to support the ExVeemon, BlackVeemon and Alan. But he could probably move through the bayou easier than trying to do it as rookies.
They then made it to the tower, and Levi proposed moving forward as Flamedramon. Archon was happy with that, and hoped that despite the depths of the tower being below the ground, it hopefully wasn't flooded.
The tower stairs spiralled downwards. The air was damp and musty, but thankfully the rooms were not flooded. Furthermore, while Archon was expecting darkness, when he tread on the ground after the final stair, a pulse of red energy rolled in all directions around them. Dozens of torches mounted on wall brackets erupted into life, lighting the room around them. This both frightened him a little, but at the same time, reassured him that there definitely was some sign that his hunch about this place was true.
"Huh... so this is some kinda sunken castle then..." he concluded, seeing corridors and rooms going in all directions. Even though this place should logically be filled with mud, it seemed that there was something alive down here that was keeping the chambers dry.
"Question is... where do we go from here?" Archon wondered out loud. There were several corridors branching from the room they were currently in. "Your digivice say anythin', Alan?" he asked the human.
As he asked that, he thought he could hear a noise coming from the corridor that led south. He turned instinctively, concerned with what else they had awoken while down here.

An ecstatic grin grew on Levi's face when the torches all sprang to life at once. There was no doubt that something was housed here. "Hope ya don't mind if we take some of these," said the dragon man, plucking three torches from the wall, handing on to Archon, one to Alan, and keeping one for himself. Alan politely turned his down, placing it back onto the wall. "I don't really trust myself around these things. I'll just use my phone's flashlight. I've found the digital world perpetually charges it, even if its wireless connection doesn't work..." Looking down at his digivice screen, a very familiar sight met the boy's eyes: a flashing shape, just like that of the area in which they were standing. "Dungeon-crawling. Looks like we won't know where we're going, but will know where we've been." All of them turned to look in the direction of the noise they heard from the south corridor.
Alan swallowed, despite himself. "South last?" Levi shook his head. "South first. If they're friendly, we'll be glad to have met them, if they're hostile, we'll be glad to have taken care of them. If they're too strong... well... we'll be glad to know that for sure. But I hope it doesn't come to that. I don't like being chased while puzzle-solving..." And so, they traipsed off in that direction, Alan occasionally taking the time to walk backwards for a few seconds, assuring that they weren't going to be ambushed in any sort of avoidable fashion. "How're you feelin', Archon?"

Archon accepted the torch gladly, hoping it would help them on the path ahead. Then, they turned to the path to the south, deciding that was their most urgent place of attention.
"Well, let's see what we've got then." Archon reasoned, then proceeded on the path south. Eventually, the light of his torch found reflection in two figures ahead. Archon tried to determine what they were, holding his torch forward, trying to figure out what they were.
The figures... glowed somehow. As though they were made from some kind of ethereal matter, but, there were still solid parts to them that were obvious as well. As Archon examined them further, he determined what they were. Both were Veemon, both clad in metal armor that covered their heads and chests, and both somehow seemed... ghostly. Yes, they were solid at first glance, but, they also glowed, their eyes had no pupils, and, they seemed to shuffle toward them, both of them holding spears, and as they neared, aimed them toward them, seemingly ready to fight.
"I... think these guys are the guardians of this castle, Alan, Levi..." Archon said with conclusion. He immediately frowned with frustration. How could they deal with such beings? Archon had no armor or weapon, and he was fairly sure that both of the seemingly "undead" Veemon had enough equipment to defeat them easily.
Yet... he noticed another thing. The Veemons seemed to be defending a bridge of some kind moving forward. And over the side of the bridge was a brown mass of liquid. Could they win by throwing their opposition over? Yet... was that right? Archon looked to Alan and Levi to determine the right thing to do here.

"So our first challenge stands in our path?" said the Flamedramon, whispering, on the off chance their speech could be understood. "I reckon there are various ways of dealing with this, each correct in their own way, each exhibiting a different trait, and, possibly, each unlocking a different path forward." First thing was first. Levi would speak aloud: "Pardon me, dear guards, but knowst thou of what one must do or be to pass your station?"
If no reaction was received, he would hold his torch closer to the guards, farther away, then to each side, and would ask everyone to place their light sources on the ground away from them, or stifle them if the could. Perhaps the glow meant the guards reaction to light in some way. "I cannot speak for my companion, but I am not pre-disposed to fighting, you see, and would appreciate notice, should we be presented with a test of fortitude or combat prowess."

Archon listened to Levi's reasoning. Yes, there were multiple ways to go about this. The most obvious was to charge forward and throw them over the side of the bridge, but, what trait would that be? If Archon was any other digimon he knew from the dark area, yeah, that was what he'd do, but somehow, that just didn't feel right to him.
Levi then proceeded further by asking the guards politely what they would need to do to pass. In response to this, the ghostly Veemons turned their eyes to him. After a few moments, their blank eyes turned to the usual red of blue dragon digimon of their kind.
"You both stand as digimon that fit the trait of the digimentals within this castle." one said.
"Therefore, you must prove yourselves before we allow you to pass." the other added. In the silence that followed, Archon couldn't hold it any longer.
"How do we do that?" he asked.
"Face each of us, in equal, single combat." said one of the ghostly Veemons. And in a momentary flash of light, Archon found that he too was equipped with armor and a spear, facing down his opponent on the other side of the bridge. Meanwhile, the second ghostly Veemon seemed to digivolve, facing Levi as another Flamedramon.
Archon turned to Levi with momentary confusion, checking to see if he would agree with this.

A clear answer, stated concisely and honestly, not that Levi had any way of knowing that for sure. Nevertheless, it was moments like these that made the Flamedramon glad for his preferred approach of "asking up front."
"Very well," said he, "I accept your challenge, though I do not wish to speak for my companion."
He leaned down and whispered to the BlackVeemon, "Archon, do you need time to adjust to the equipment? Are you as comfortable as cute? Do you wish to request a bare-knuckle brawl?"
"He's not your kid or something," Alan remarked from behind, amused, arms crossed.
"Naturally, I wished for him only to know his rights. I would hardly consider it fair if he isn't used to armed combat!"
"Fair. You slipped in a compliment, though. You called him cute. Not judging, just, you know, reminding you of that. I do have a question of my own, though. As this is equal one-on-one combat, I assume I shall be watching from my end? We may be partners, but far be it from me to try and claim we're technically one person, just so I can help."

Archon took a few moments to adjust to this situation. The armor was heavy, but it felt like it shielded him. And the weapon in his hand? He felt like he could use it adequately.
Levi meanwhile made it known that he wanted this to be entirely fair. If Archon was honest, even if he was predisposed to tell him to knock it off, the BlackVeemon did like the feeling of being cared about in this way. He smiled instead, but accepted the challenge.
"No need for that. The way I see it, we're here to challenge 'em, then they get to choose the weapons used. I think I can handle this." the BlackVeemon stated.
Meanwhile, the opposing digimon that had evolved to Flamedramon acknowledged Alan's question. "You may watch as your partner participates, but be warned, intervene and I will respond with equal force. I will not harm you, human, so long as if your partner is defeated, you leave this place at once. That is my only promise."
Archon frowned. This was a little daunting. He wasn't used to moving around in armor, not used to using a spear, but damn, he wanted to pass these two already, and if it was to beat them in single combat, then he'd just do that.
But he wouldn't make it so easy as a melee combat challenge. He'd fight his own way. His fist glowed dark grey, and with a snarl of "Night Bomb!" he punched the ground between him and his opponent, creating a dome of darkness with a radius of 20m. This enveloped his side of the bridge with darkness and didn't intervene with Levi's side.
Within the darkness, the enemy Veemon tried to lash out at him, but Archon was used to fighting in these conditions, he swiftly evaded the best he could, all the while tracking his opponent with his draconic senses.
Meanwhile, the opposing Flamedramon awaited Levi's first move.
Archon uses Night Bomb.
Night Bomb - Archon raises his hand, conjures a ball of darkness, then slams it down on the ground in front of him. Has the effect of a negative image Flashbang, in that it makes everyone except himself in a 20m radius see nothing but darkness and deafens their hearing for 1 turn. [Cooldown: 3 turns]
Enemy Veemon attempts an attack with his spear, Archon evades with assistance of Shadow Sneak.
Combat Passive Ability: Shadow Sneak - In environments of darkness, such as at night or in caves, or if he uses his Night Bomb attack, Archon has the ability to rapidly change position. Unless there is something illuminating the area, or a Light, Fire or Electric attack has been launched this turn, his evasiveness significantly increases, and allows him to flee more easily.

Alan flinched instinctively at the thought of having to do the walk of shame out of the castle. "If I were to use a card to-"
Seeing as Archon's fight had started already, Levi hardly wanted to stall any longer. "Shh!" he interjected, before noticing Alan was startled. "Er, sorry. I mean... you shouldn't have to. You won't have to!" Strengthening his resolve, the Flamedramon dashed forward to his adversary as fast as his legs could take him, and one or two steps into this movement, flipped himself forward, pushing his metal claws off the ground, and launching his legs up and forward with such strength that it resulted in a midair flaming somersault with such speed that it looked almost like a buzzsaw with glowing edges. He had to admit that charging forward in a straight line was far less of a refined strategy than Archon's openers, but first impressions were important in a battle. If he wasn't sure if he could land a hit, he at least had to showcase strength. If there was one lessoned he had learned through the little battle experience he had had, it was this: don't forget to attack.
Flamedramon launches into a Solarsault aimed at the ruin sentinel Flamedramon!
Solarsault - Flamedramon pulls his arms and legs in for a mid-air flaming spin attack. The fire, combined with the spikes on Flamedramon’s armor, makes this a dangerous thing to be hit by. 2-post cooldown. Cooldown remaining: 2 posts.

Levi's onslaught was met by the ghostly Flamedramon retaliating by crossing his claws in front of his chest, ducking, and meeting the attack head-on. His defensive posture resulted in his armor being scratched and scorched in several places, but, other than that, he had managed to nullify all damage from that attack because of his defensive technique.
"Getting past me will not be that easy." he replied, resuming a stoic pose.
Meanwhile, Archon thought that he had this in the bag. He rushed toward his opponent, seeking to make a low, swift punch with his clenched fist, as he had done with many other digimon at his level before and bested them. He saw the enemy Veemon turn around, eyes wide with surprise, then he thrusted his fist forward, ready to claim his victory.
Rather than striking the enemy Veemon's soft white belly, instead he struck heavy metal plate mail, and instantly regretted doing so.
And to add further insult to injury, the Veemon was free to retaliate with a nasty uppercut to his chin, which sent Archon flying back several feet, his head spinning.
"You're going to have to do better than that." the Veemon told him, coldly. Archon slowly got back to his feet, seething. He'd have to strike much more strategically if he was going to win this.
It seemed the lesson was equal to both him and Levi. They probably wouldn't be able to force their way through this.
"Any ideas, Levi?" he asked his boyfriend, hoping to get a lead on what sort of strategy to use. He watched as the effects of his Night Bomb faded, and the darkness was removed from the battlefield.
Archon attempts Sucker Punch on the enemy Veemon.
Sucker Punch - Archon rushes up against an opponent and aims a nasty, low blow at their gut. Deals 50% more damage if used after Night Bomb or in conditions of darkness and they have no means of seeing through it.
Night Bomb duration: 1/1 turns [ends now].
Enemy Veemon tanks the hit and takes reduced damage thanks to Plate Mail.
Combat Passive: Plate Mail - Reduces incoming melee attacks by 50% and prevents flinching.
Enemy Veemon uses a basic attack, aiming an uppercut on Archon.
Enemy Flamedramon uses Igneous Armor to defend against Levi's Solarsault.
Igneous Armor: Flamedramon braces and defends himself against an incoming attack. Nullifies all damage from an attack up to the Armor Champion level. [Cooldown: 2 turns].
Combat Passive Ability: Wisp Armor - Reduces damage from Fire and Dark elemental attacks by 50%. Increases damage from Water and Light elemental attacks by 50%.

Levi narrowed his eyes at his adversary. "I never said I thought it would be easy." Following this, he stood awkwardly in place for a few seconds. "This is..." he started, "usually the part where you make your attack...? No? Your call, I guess."
Before trying to attack again, he would take a moment to ponder with Archon what the next course of action should be in their respective fights.
"Ehh… let's see what did they say...? We're proving ourselves by facing them in single combat, but what exactly are we proving? This is single combat, and Alan's only allowed to watch, so it's not teamwork... and it's not brute force... maybe... we gotta be more precise?"
Levi followed this up by moving up to the Flamedramon and delivering a bunch of punches in succession, each fast enough to look deliberate, but just slow enough to be easy to avoid. A jab to the side of the head, over the shoulder, under the arm, and in the midst of the flurry, he sent one strike towards the lower torso of the bridge guard.
-Levi delivers a flurry of feign punches, and in the middle of it, throws one forceful jab at the lower body of the opposing Flamedramon.

After their opening salvo was effectively repulsed, Archon leapt back a few steps to get back out of range. He wasn't used to this style of combat. Usually, attacking wildly until he eventually triumphed was the way he would survive after all this time, but, the enemy Veemon and Flamedramon were fighting defensively. Attacking recklessly against them was clearly not a strategy that would work properly.
Levi seemed to come to a similar conclusion, then strode forward to make another attempt at an attack. The enemy Flamedramon responded to his attacks by evading and parrying them as they came, attempting to lash out at him in return as well, but, much more passively and taking less risks than what would be usual for a digimon asserting dominance. It was though he was determined not to let any of Levi's attacks through his defenses.
However, the last attack by Levi was dealt so suddenly that the enemy Flamedramon could not defend himself against it, and it was a clean hit, making him grunt and knocking him backward several feet.
Archon saw that, then concluded that this was the strategy he should follow. All-out onslaughts would not grant him victory here. He had to fight carefully. And thus, he did, using the spear weapon in his hands. He paid attention to its capabilities, and he quickly learned its advantages. Spears had long range, but could quickly be withdrawn to short range, using their leverage as excellent means of quick strikes. So... his path to victory was through use of the spear. Well then. He'd use this carefully.
The BlackVeemon began his attack run by striking with his spear at the longest range, jabbing at the enemy Veemon with careful, probing stabs. Then he took a step forward, aiming more careful stabs at the gaps in his opponent's armor. In one instance, he struck true, hitting the opponent's armpit, forcing him to withdraw out of range as he yelped in pain.
Archon's red eyes narrowed competitively. So then, this seemed to be the path forward through this.
"You thinkin' what I'm thinkin', Levi?" he asked, hoping his boyfriend was catching on to the way forward through this - to strike carefully and precisely. However, his eyes widened as their opponents returned attacks to them, proving they would not be passive opponents.
"Will-o-Wisp!" the enemy Flamedramon snarled, sending a flurry of ghostly fireballs at Levi.
"Vee Lance!" the enemy Veemon shouted, conjuring a purple spear of energy and aimed it at Archon. The BlackVeemon was so surprised that he was forced to crash-dive to the ground to avoid it. He growled as he struggled back to his feet, hoping to resume a proper battle stance in time.
Archon aims a melee attack with his spear and strikes the enemy Veemon.
Combat Passive: Plate Mail - Reduces incoming melee attacks by 50% and prevents flinching... unless melee attacks are unnamed probing basic attacks.
Enemy Veemon attacks with Vee Lance. Archon crashes to evade.
Vee Lance - Conjures a spear of dark energy, then hurls it at an opponent for increased damage. [Cooldown: 1 turn]
Levi's attack strikes true with the enemy Flamedramon.
Enemy Flamedramon attacks Levi with Will-o-Wisp.
Will-o-Wisp - A ghostly version of Fire Rocket, in which dark fireballs are launched at a target. (No cooldown)
